the whole show was filled with tension between you and Taylor. she was so on edge because of the promise. the promise that you'd make it public. the promise you'd both be out.
she was messing up when you got close. lyrics were getting mumbled, and she'd zone out, lost in your face, or sing the wrong part.
the whole time you were internally laughing your ass off, seeing her so spaced from the thought of you.
it was in the midnights era when it finally happened. during bejeweled, you asked kam if you could do his little dance solo, and being the absolute g he is, he obviously said yes and agreed to keep it a secret from taylor.
"I polish up real, I polish up real nice!" taylor sung, looking at kam so he could step forward. the shock on her face when you stepped forward was humorous.
you took her micless hand and twirled her around before bringing her into your body and holding one of her legs up. she let out a squeak of surprise before you brought your lips down to hers and caught her in a kiss.
she smiled into it, and her cue to sing again passed by many beats before you disconnected, smiling at each other.
it felt like it was just the two of you, in your own euphoric world of bliss.
you let go of her and continued to dance. your eyes didn't leave her, but neither did hers, so it was fine.
the audience went absolutely crazy. they thought she was with travis? they thought she was straight? no. she was with you. she was in a pr relationship with travis to be with you and it was clear the contract was over now.
the song choice was quite ironic too.

After the show had finished, you knocked on the door of her dressing room "tay?" you called out, beginning to knock again but the second your hand was even close to the door she opened it, making you step back, almost hitting her
"come in" she smiled, grabbing your hand and pulling you in
you closed the door behind you and sat on the couch, gently yanking her down to sit with you "surprised?"
"yeah I was actually. but I was expecting it because it took you so long to do it" she said while you rolled your eyes
"welllllll I know you were still surprised. you should've seen your face"
"I'm sure I will tomorrow" she said more seriously. she knew coming out would come with backlash. she had to keep karlie a secret too.
you could feel the regret seeping out of her. you cupped her face and pulled hit closer "taylor, look at me" you said softly
she bit her gums and looked into your eyes.
"dont overthink. there's nothing we can do about hate because, shit I know you hate me quoting you but the haters are gonna hate. you can't stop them.. its just what they do. you'd get backlash for breathing the wrong way so don't stress it. you've advocated for gay rights and pride multiple times before. if that wasn't hint enough I think this is. I know I'm not big like travis but I can still protect you like he does." as you spoke, she let out the smallest of smiles but it was clear as day to you "I love you, and no jealous troll will ever make me think any differently. you're mine, forever And always"
"I love you too" she whispered and sunk into the quiet "but please stop quoting me. I swear it's my 13th reason why"
"isn't 13 your lucky number though?" you smirked as she hit your arm
"shut up, you actual moron"
soon, the room was filled with laughter and any regret or guilt had diminished. it was just what you did.

*breathes* the problem with Clawen is that they’re only together by virtue of them being a man and a woman, and for some reason that means that they just have *have* to get together in the screenwriters’ minds. The back and forth between movie was unnecessary and I have a hard time believing that they would be able to stay together raising some kid somewhere… the only way I can tolerate them is through fanfic since fanfic authors are sooo talented and know how to expand on their characters. The Missing Years is an example of a fic that actually made me believing that Clawen could be together.
Writing Jurassic Park fanfiction be like oh damn I forgot what John was doing on February 12 1987 and what flower Wu cloned in May of 1997 and when the hell did hurricane Clarissa hit damn it
the world trilogy did something beautiful, in my opinion, when it decided to redeem wu instead of sacrifice him alongside the mass of dead white villains. from as early as jurassic world, wu is a sympathetic frankenstein. this is art to him, not mad science. fallen kingdom is even better in showing how much he values the process over the money. he actively tries to stop a sale because it went against the integrity of his art. dominion is the culmination of this when wu is accepted by the heroes and rushed to safety while the white billionaire dies.
by in large, the world trilogy ushers in a message of redemption. anyone who is WILLING to change or learn from their mistakes is allowed to become a hero. from claire to henry to kayla. these are all people who’ve hurt people and animals, but regretted it. that regret is why they deserve a second chance. that willingness to make it right is why they deserve a second chance.
world is also deeply sympathetic to its non-white and female characters. it gives them grace where other franchises would not. in world, a black woman is allowed to traffic animals and regret it. in world, an asian man is allowed to create animals that have killed people and regret it. in world, a white woman is allowed to be lured in by corporate power and regret it. it says that these characters don’t need to die to be redeemed. In fact, it argues that it’s BETTER that they live and make amends for their wrongs than die for them. it’s a beautiful message of restorative justice rather than punitive.
This is a one shot I recently wrote for my prequel fic of Jurassic Park, but it’s more of a “deleted scene” since I decided to remove it.

1987
Henry could miss a breath of air before forgetting to bring Amelia a cup of steaming hot coffee in the middle of the night during her own studies. Despite the tribulations and obstacles regarding their individual preferences regarding scientific research, they both could always count on another to dance to each other’s steps. Fate held their hands, leading them to the wonders of pale-genetics, and a loving game brought them together.
It was now 12 a.m. and Amelia still sat across the monitor eyeing her email inbox.
“You work too much,” Henry muttered sweetly, setting down the coffee on the wooden desk.
Her eyes still tethered to the pages of her paleontology textbook, she grinned. “Oh, look who’s talking. Remember a while back when you’d stay in the lab all night trying to create those embryos?”
“I guess we’re both workaholics then.”
He lowered his head to kiss her cheek and in response she smiled shyly.
“I love you,” he cooed.
Amelia flipped a page. “I love you too,” she said.
Henry brought his fingers to her chin, directing her gaze to his. “No, really. I love you.”
Amelia’s eyebrows raised at the change in his tone. “Of course you do. I love you too. Really.”
It wasn’t that their partnership lacked passion and novelty, but it was odd for Henry to suddenly become so serious out of nowhere like that.
His eyes twinkled as he pushed his lips against hers in a swift motion.
“What’s the matter?” She muttered the moment they broke apart.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said before sitting on the edge of their bed, “about us. Our future.”
“Oh?”
“I know that when we came to this island I told you it would be a while before I’d be ready to settle down. And I still think that. But we’re nearing four years together now. I know eventually you want children, and I want to be a great father.”
He looked to the side.
Amelia tilted her head, “where’s Henry? What have you done to him? Are you his ghost?” She turned to the doorway cheekily.
He chuckled, reaching for the paradise that was her hand. “Come on. I’m serious. I’m not foolish. You want a future with me and I want a future with you. Why don’t we just discuss it?”
“Discuss it?”
“Discuss marriage.”
“I,” she stuttered, vision suddenly blurry, “I-“
His eyes pleaded for her. “Please don’t tell me you changed your mind.”
“No, of course not. This is just so unexpected,” she laughed nervously in an effort to soften the air, “I mean, I thought you were just like other men, always running from commitment. I mean, you kinda were in the beginning.”
“God. I have done too much haven’t I? I’m the desperate one. I-”
“No, no you’re not. Forget what I said! I’m so happy that you actually think about us. About this. I, I’m just so surprised. I mean, do you mean it?”
Henry raised an eyebrow. “Of course I mean it! I don’t tell you I love you everyday for no reason. I really do want this.”
He bent down to kiss her hand, she bouncing off of his audacious gesture with a blush.
Suddenly, she felt her eyes swell, “when, when do you want to?” she bit her lip, scared to say anything further.
“I am not saying next month. Or even next year. I just want you to know that I intend for that to be the next step.”
“Our careers?”
“Will be our first priority, just like we both agreed on. How about after the park opens?” His eyes sparked with a beautiful glint of shiny gold, “we’ll have so much free time after that.”
Amelia sniffed. “I would love that, I really would.”
She chuckled and he did too. Nothing was more perfect than that moment right then and there. The park would open within the next two years, and Amelia already started to grieve the days in which they stressed over insufficient eggs in incubation or failed embryos before they even ended. The couple’s journey was just barely starting, but if she could stop time and live in the before, she would. If she could turn back time to witness seeing Henry’s highly-raised cheekbones and virtuous smile, she would.
“So it’s settled then,” he sighed, “1989.”
“1989.”
“And to think, just three years ago we came here, not even knowing what we’d accomplish.”
“One dodo bird, three triceratops, one megaloceros, a dozen saber-toothed salmon, several compy’s, one microceratus, one smilodon, and now twelve velociraptors,” she mulled, looking up the ceiling, “I still can't believe it. What we did. It’s just, wow.”
“We’re the founders of the New World. The new science. Just think, our names will be in future textbooks.”
Amelia chuckled, “maybe. But I’ll just be glad that whatever I achieved, I did with you.”
Henry leaned in to kiss her.
The coffee must’ve been getting cold, but she didn’t care. Letting herself get swept away by his storm, she slid off the chair and onto his lap in their cushy paradise they called a bed.
That was how their conversations at night always ended. Into a loving game.
The smile spread across Henry’s face as you came up on the screen, the cameras catching you at work, training the Indominus Rexes. “That’s it, that’s it,” I was saying in a slow, smooth voice. We were working on our calmness and proximity training, getting them okay with having me be closer to them. They were still young-ins, these four.
The grin grew even bigger as he watched me gently lay a hand upon the scaly head of the dinosaur. This beautiful creature which would grow up to be one of the world’s best predators - and here you were, touching it calmly.
“Good - good,” You continued to coo, taking your hand away and offered it a juicy steak, throwing it up in the air. It caught it with precision and enthusiasm, chowing down. You went on to do this with all four, the last of which was the most excitable of all because he wanted that steak badly. He nearly nipped at you, but you managed to get him calm again, then rewarded him.
“Excellent job,” Henry said into my comms unit as you took a couple of steps back away from the dinos. “I still don’t know how you get them to be calm for you like that.”
“You should know,” You said with a laugh, heading towards the jeep. “I have a skill with difficult creatures. How do you think I managed to tame you?”
His cheeks went pink as he looked around the lab, making sure that no one else was listening in to our conversation. “You think you tamed me?”
“I think we all know I did, loverboy,” You said with a grin. “Dinner at the cafeteria tonight, you and me? Anything but steak.”
“It’s a date,” Henry said, a goofy little grin on his face as you turned off your comm to drive, a warmth going through his blood.

Wu watched carefully as you sat across from him and put your feet up on his desk without a care; your hands resting on your stomach as you tilted your head to the side and glared at him impatiently.
It wasn't exactly rare for you to creep into his lab when you had a spare few five minutes, but you certainly picked the worst day for it.
Wu was expecting Muldoon to swing by to do a quick safety inspection, as no one else did them and Hammond refused to hire staff for it, which had meant that he had been working nonstop to produce risk assessments and various reports.
He was a busy man, and the last thing that he needed was for his favourite annoyance to be waltzing into his office without a single care in the world.
Slowly, Wu drew his gaze to you, and furrowed his brows. "What?"
You shrugged, scratching at your chin as you dared to allow a hum to escape from the back of your throat. "Am I not allowed to just sit here?"
"No." He deadpanned with a shake of his head. "What have you done this time?"
You smacked the palm of your hand against your chest, and gasped with mock offence. "I'm shocked you'd think so lowly of me, Henry."
"How's the organising going?" He asked with a huff. "Managed to convince anyone to unionise yet?"
"Only you, Robert, and most of the handling staff," you nodded. "How do you think Hammond's gonna take it?"
"Not very well," Wu hummed, shaking his head for a moment before returning to his paperwork. "Have you managed to get me those African millipedes?"
"Yeah, a few," you shrugged. "Mostly pedelings, though. I don't think you'll be producing any fucking... whatever the fuck their name is, but the massive ones."
"Arthropleura," he told you. "I just think it would be easier on the animals if we stopped using the compsognathus to do the clean-up job."
"You should get us some scorpions, too," you mused. "Like, eight of the cunts."
"Why would I do that?"
"Train 'em," you pointed out. "Get 'em to trust us lot - the working men - and then get 'em to attack and kill Hammond. It's foolproof, I'm telling you."
Wu rolled his eyes, and did his best to fight the smile that threatened his mouth; he liked that you never fell for Hammond's façade, and that you always had your hackles up whenever he was around.
You weren't everybody's favourite staff member, far from it in fact, but you were well liked by those who took the time.
"I somehow don't think that that will work," Wu told you. "I know your... what did you call it, again?"
"Echo."
"Echo isn't exactly keen on Hammond, but he's one animal," he explained, "and he's a modern species. He's probably a lot more developed than the ones that lived during the eras of the dinosaurs."
"But you've seen Echo," you pointed out. "You've seen how... well, you know he isn't as aggressive with you or Muldoon as he is with Hammond. Imagine that but the size of a greyhound."
"I'm telling you," Wu chuckled softly. "It probably won't work that way."
"Then what's the fucking point in you being my friend, Henry?" You huffed, and he grinned.
"You're right," he bit back a laugh. "I'm useless. It's not like I've booked time off for us both to take a holiday, then booked the hotel, then arranged the transport, and I'll carry the suitcases and-"
"Yeah, alright, I get it," you held your hand up, and smiled softly at him. "I appreciate it, y'know. You don't hear it often enough, Henry, but you're appreciated. All that you do, even for that conniving bastard."
Wu fought back against the urge to laugh again, and to playfully tell you off for making such a comment; of course, he could never admit that it went beyond that by a lot more than it seemed at first glance. He had always found you charming, good looking... maybe even cute, sometimes, but he couldn't say it.
Fraternising came with the risk of losing the job, and for most of the people who worked at the park, that wasn't something that could be done; most of the staff came from working backgrounds, and sent the money home to their families every month to ensure their survival above all else.

Suddenly, you took his pen from him, letting it rest between your teeth as you shot him an all too charming grin, and Wu knew that he was done for; he rolled his eyes, and shook his head to try and clear it.
"Stop it."
"What?" You asked with feigned innocence.
"Oh, you think that's cute, huh?" He leaned forward, tilting his head slightly to the side and narrowing his eyes at you.
You nodded eagerly, almost laughing. "I know you think it's cute."
Wu's jaw clenched, and he cleared his throat awkwardly. "You know the cost of... that."
You got up, locked the door, and shut the blinds before coming back to him. "What Hammond don't know won't kill him, y'know, Henry. If you wanna... I'm okay with it."
He thought about it for a moment, the. sighed heavily. "My family would be fine if I lost this... would yours?"
You shrugged. "I'd find a way around it, and I can get a union representative and-"
"Is it worth it?" He asked softly. "Losing everything you have, everything you've ever worked for, you-"
"Stop worrying about me," you told him quietly, moving to sit on his lap with your hands resting on his chest. "Henry."
"I just want to be sure," Wu muttered, putting his hands on your sides and sighing. "And I don't want to see your family hurt because of me."
You told him that it was fine time and time again, doing everything that you could to reassure him, but he just wouldn't listen, and knowing that you had no other option, you went for showing over telling; the moment that your mouth pressed against his, he eagerly kissed back.
It was short and it was sweet, and when you pulled away to move to the door, Wu could not help but to frown as he gently grabbed your wrist.
"That convincing enough for you?" You asked, grinning down at him.
"Don't go," Wu said quietly.
"Henry," you cocked a brow. "I want a drink, and I want something to eat, and a cigarette... I'll be back, don't worry."
"I'll come with you," he shrugged. "It's... insurance."
"Insurance?" You huffed, just a little bit amused.
Wu began to stutter as he laughed nervously, flustered more than he could comprehend. "Well, Robert, you know, and... the other guys and..."
"Henry?"
He raised his brows slightly.
"It's real cute when you get flustered."
He rolled his eyes, shaking his head as he all but shoved you out of the door before him; a slight smile on his face when you allowed him to rest his hand at the middle of your back. "Come on, union man, let's get you something to eat."
"And smoke," you pointed out. "Don't forget the smoke."
"I won't," he huffed, fondly growling at you. "Come on, before you cause more trouble."
