communism, specifically Marx’s conception of communism, is necessarily based directly on material analysis of society. it’s not “idealist,” and Marx specifically worked with “dialectical materialism,” a method of logically analyzing the material world, and consistently argued against “idealism.”
the argument “you need money in order to motivate people to work” is a lie, a lie that serves to benefit the people who have a shitload of money.
every adult person has performed labor without needing money to motivate them.
when a parent teaches, cooks, cleans, provides transportation, for their child.
when a person cultivates herbs and flowers in their garden.
when a person creates a work of art as a gift for their friend.
when a person brews their own beer to share with friends, relations, guests.
when a person builds a treehouse for their younger sibling.
when a person builds themselves a custom PC for video games.
when a person hunts, fishes, farms, or forages, to directly produce food for their family, community, tribe.
when a person provides medical treatment for a friend or family member who is sick.
when a person paints a mural on the wall of their house.
There is… Labor motivated by necessity, love, curiosity, zest for life, empathy…
We can create a society that cares for all of its people. A society that allows people to perform labor safely, that can distribute the products of labor rationally, so that nobody goes hungry, nobody goes homeless, nobody goes without healthcare, education… or people who care about them.
Marx has at one point called this the project of “human emancipation.” I think it is an apt phrase.
