You don’t hate the elderly; you hate people who are living long lives at the expense of others, people whose longevity is made possible via suffering and injustice. There is no generational conflict and there never has been. You have more in common with old people living in poverty than you ever will with someone who watched the same TV shows you did when you were both twelve.
reblogging this because some of you are acting like “the elderly” are a monolithic racist, sexist group who are just horrible and demanding. Ignoring, of course, Black elders. Indigenous elders. Gay elders, lesbian elders, trans elders, working class elders, etc. Someone isn’t automatically a shitty person just because they’re 75 and acting like anyone over a certain age isn’t to be trusted is egg-fucking-zactly what I’m warning against with this post
In statistics we call this a survival effect, and in fact, this is almost the definition of it. The only reason you think the elderly are awful racists stuck in their ways who profit off of the exploitation of the rest of society are because the one’s who aren’t willing to go that far to live longer end up exploited by the ones who are, and often die earlier as a result. Some make it through, but our society is an environmental factor that currently makes it harder for the nice people to make it to old age, resulting in the ones that get there having amuch higher chance of being awful.
It’s not being old that creates these mentalities, it’s that our society doesn’t want you living to become old, and those who are both more willing and able to exploit others get a leg up on fighting that, if only for their own personal gain.
look at this fucking duck

Citrus Series by Dennis Wojtkiewicz
man i remember reblogging these very soon after i joined tumblr
you look at them and you’re like “wow! what amazing photographs” but they’re oil paintings
they are oil paintings
they are oil paintings
of luminescent citrus fruit no less.
I’d like to see the middle one as the great rose window of a fruit-worshipping cathedral.
I’d also like to see a fruit-worshipping cathedral, obviously.
If you switched bodies with someone, you’d have to get used to how their voice sounded to them
Reminder of: reason for eggplant’s name
I would love to see the anti immigration conservatives do this for at least 30 mins..
Donate: We can’t do Thanksgiving without farm workers
Friendly reminder that most farm workers are paid nearly nothing via loopholes (don’t have to follow minimum wage if you arent paying by the hour!)
And that “unskilled labor” isn’t an actual thing. It’s just used by desk jockeys who play on the internet all day instead of working so they feel superior to everyone who actually does the work they profit off of. And of course, to make themselves feel better for the abuse they dish out.

@white allies: because i see constant self-deprecation based on your whitness, here’s a detailed explanation of why it’s not helping us (or you).
if you continously go on about how horrible white people are, you may rot your own brain into thinking that these shortcomings are a natural state of being rather than a manufactured supremacist system which is simultaneously widespread, evil, and capable of being dismantled.
recognizing that you have the same human compassion capabilities as everyone else, regardless of how alienated from them you have become, is the first step toward becoming a better person capabable of helping other people (of color).
don’t mirror the way that PoC talk about you as an oppressor class. the context is different, and the mindset that you develop from it is different.
don’t fall into a mindset where you (act as if you) are a morally compromised being for being white. the ultimate end of antiracism is to denaturalize racial hegemony, including virtuous moralization of the “oppressed”
evaluating your engagement in racism & the benefits you receive from white supremacy is only one piece of this process. the other piece is interacting with other people (of color) as if they are indeed the same species as you.
so instead of demoralizing yourself, look at your actions to determine if they are compassionate. academic stuff aside, this is often a good litmus test for racism; even the unintentional you will soon realize was often a failure to conceptualize how your actions would affect others- not a failure by some innate aspect of your race but by the normalized lack of consideration whiteness may afford you

Baby otter’s first encounter with water.
I’m compelled by stories where the characters suffer a lot, but only if there’s catharsis in the end. If they just die without ever getting to recover I’m OUT because what’s the fucking purpose then? Voyeurism? Bye
But happy endings are literally SOOO boring
So are you
The three most boring kinds of endings:
-I refuse to tell you the ending, you have to ~decide for yourself~! -And then they woke up. -And it was all miserable and pointless and nothing got fixed and nothing was better and everybody died or lived morosely ever after, now stay awake all night contemplating the futility of life and feeling shitty so I can masturbate to the idea that i have made Powerful Art.
Protip: it doesn’t take any skill or insight to make people feel bad. Just like it doesn’t take any skill to refuse to come up with an ending and make the reader decide, or to handwave all the questions of the narrative by saying they were never real at all. What takes skill is to gather together all your woven threads and knot them in a way that won’t unravel, that completes the narrative, satisfies the reader, and makes sense under scrutiny. That can be bittersweet sometimes! Characters can sacrifice a lot for their ending! It doesn’t have to be rainbows and kittens! But if the ending makes readers wish they hadn’t invested emotional energy in the outcome of the story, then the story has failed.
Don’t be lazy. Don’t cheap out on your ending. Work to put together something readers will be glad they read, even if it made them cry.
IF THE ENDING MAKES READERS WISH THEY HADN’T INVESTED EMOTIONAL ENERGY IN THE OUTCOME OF THE STORY, THEN THE STORY HAS FAILED.
That’s it! That’s the point!

blanket is tucked in too tight. headboard is too cold. fan is a little too loud. it’s incredible
lamp is just out of reach and it’s the only light in the room. the floor is carpeted but cold. it’s always 8 pm
Everyday I see an opinion that I don’t agree with on this hellsite, and every single day, I manage to scroll past it and not to go into someone’s inbox on anonymous to explain to them why they are wrong, some of y'all should try that some time
