I need to fucking see someone who can prescribe meds because there has to be smth easier than this. I honestly dont know what tf I'm gonna do if I'm sitting here thinking "it's ok Ashley, you're dealing with untreated ADHD most likely, you're living life in hard mode" and I see someone and they're just like "lol nope ur just fuckin lazy dude".

Cause this shit feels IMPOSSIBLE. How tf do I work 40hrs a week doing 10+ hr grave shifts, AND go to school and keep up with all my assignments, AND fucking keep my room and the rest of the house clean like I cant fucking do it all!!!! My body hurts and I dont have time for anything and theres a fucking pandemic so I cant even do something like fucking go to walmart at 3am for ice cream to get a fucking iota of serotonin. And I will actually breakdown if all of this isnt even caused by my brain and it's just genuinely all my fault I cant do anything.

This used to be called “Auto Shop” and “Home Economics,” subjects which were included in nearly every high school curriculum up until the 1980s. Auto maintenance, budget management, sewing skills, cooking, and other basic Adulting skills were actually taught in classroom settings. But suddenly all that money got funneled away to sports and graduation requirements shifted toward standardized tests because those were somehow more? important? than life skills? and the home ec and shop classes were no longer taught, even as electives. We’ve been steadily losing arts classes for similar reasons.

And so students leave school with a thorough grounding in football and calculus, but having no idea how to sew on a button or change a tire. 

Petition to bring back these classes in every single middle and high school in the country.

Like most things that went wrong in the 80s, this is due to Reagan. He signed the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act into law which allowed “Job Creators” to control our educational system.

How would a 4 hour day 4 day week model handle jobs in fields like transportation, where a shift might need to be 10 hours just because thats how long it actually takes to move the train from point a to point b

That’s a good question, and honestly I think there are a number of ways society could solve things like that. I’d personally opt for a system where you might have two or three conductors on longer trips, in which case they could swap at prearranged times. The conductors who aren’t conducting(?) would then do whatever they want — sit in the same compartment, go sit with passengers, take a nap, watch a movie, etc. I also figure a society with more robust public transportation (i.e. a socialist society) would have frequent-enough stations to stop at, where you could let those conductors off and other passengers on, etc. I’m not a conductor, so I don’t know if that’s a feasible thing, but I don’t see why it would be complicated; if it is, someone more knowledge is more than welcome to chime in and set the record straight.

Socialism doesn’t aim to have all the answers from the outset or to impose a one-size-fits-all system on all utilities. But it does aim to put the decision-making power for those solutions into the hands of the people they impact, via direct democracy, rather than leaving them in the hands of self-interested profit-seekers who impose the demands of capital on others. In effect, the logistics of train stations and schedules would be decided by conductors, engineers, and citizens’ councils (etc.) working together to simplify travel and workload for everyone involved. That won’t look the same everywhere, but hopefully it still means needs are met everywhere and people aren’t alienated and crushed by long hours.
