You should include intersex people in your activism not bc we prove bio essentialists are wrong but bc we are people who deserve rights 👍

The thing neurotypicals tend not to understand about the ADHD brain is that it really only has two gears
I turn to the chalkboard and carefully write out
WORKIN' HARD
HARDLY WORKIN'
Much like a cars transmission getting stuck between gears the adhd brain can also access a secret mode called HORKLY WARDIN' that feels bad

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...
I saw a review of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall that said 'I can't believe people think this was a feminist book'.
Like, do you know how swooningly, outrage-causingly shocking it was that the main character slammed her bedroom door in her abusive husband's face? Do you have any idea how unthinkable it was that she denied him access to her space and her person? She was supposed to submissively look away while he turned their son into an alcoholic for his own amusement and seduced innocent young women! It was revolutionary in 1848; when Bronte (Anne) wrote it, she had to do so under a male psuedonym because publishers wouldn't accept works by women unless they were harmless pap, which was all that was thought suitable for women to read lest their mild and gentle minds be corrupted.
The reason these groundbreaking books of history seem to tame and understated now is because they worked. They raised the bar, pushed the agenda forwards, cleared the path for the next writer. They did exactly what they were supposed to. Time is linear. History moves forward. We make progress.
When you are old, if things happen as they ought, a future generation of teenagers will read The Hate U Give and Simon and the Homo Sapiens' Agenda and Speak and think to themselves 'why did anybody ever think this was contraversial? Why did they ban them? These are just things we talk about, these are things we deal with like normal people. What was the past like, and how do we stop from backsliding into a place where these things are considered shocking again?"
I really hope that's how it goes.
First rule of literary analysis: the analyst cannot judge a past work by modern standards or ethics. Doing so leads to faulty comprehension, straw man fallacies, and lazy logic and analysis. We must always consider the work within the broader frameworks of the history, culture, and events that shaped it.
Dog sculptures turned golden from tourists petting them throughout the years
@canisalbus
I hate hate hate hate how dog friendly everything is in the city now. Barring medical necessity, there is no reason to bring your dog to a restaurant, there is no reason to bring your dog to the grocery store, there is no reason to bring your dog to the nail salon. Dogs do not need to go everywhere you go why am I being forced to be around dogs all the time
The worst part is the degree to which city people will aggressively fearmonger about crime while also bringing their dog everywhere. Bestie you're more than twice as likely to get sent to the hospital by a dog bite than you are by anything a human does the danger is coming from inside the house
Statistically speaking, homeless people are far less dangerous than dogs but the average city liberal would kill a dozen homeless people to save a single stupid french bulldog it's so bleak I can't stand dog people
Based on the replies to this post I am now convinced that "keep your damn dog at home" is a very much a silent majority position
white people have made the world safe for dogs while making it unsafe for POC
in a lot of regions, it’s against the law (specifically, health codes) to have a (pet, non service animal) dog hanging around inside bars or restaurants.
That’s an instance where you are, in fact, perfectly justified to complain to the staff or even the manager.
I won't say where I worked at but I was often the only employee that worked overnight at a popular gas station in some regions of the US of A and the policy for people bringing pets inside was that we had to ask but were ONLY ALLOWED to ask if it was a service animal. This lady brought in her small dog with her and for fear of losing my job I asked her if her dog was a service animal, and she was very confused at first why I was asking that to begin with and I reiterated "I have to ask you if your dog is a service animal" which then she quickly responded back with "oh yes of course it is".
She then set her tiny dog on the counter while she was filling up a cup at our fountain dispenser machine and her tiny little "service dog" pissed all over the counter, and I wasn't allowed to say a god damn thing to her about it but I definitely had to make sure I spent the next half hour making sure I completely sanitized the counter her dog pissed all over :))))
you are permitted under the ADA to tell someone to get their "service dog" the hell out of your place of business if it is causing a disturbance or not housebroken. and, for the record, service animals can only be dogs or miniature horses. dont listen to anyone trying to tell you their cat or bunny or whatever is a service animal. read the ADA FAQ and know when you can tell people to leave.
This may be modified by state or local laws. For example, Indiana does not restrict service to dogs and miniature horses.
Falin's chimera design is so good I was mesmerized by her every time she showed up. Then I reached the part where Laios explain how absurd she is because she has a way too small mouth to feed such a huge body and I felt so guilty... I'm sorry miss Falin I was so engrossed by your glorious form that I didn't notice you were ill bred just like a little pug... Please forgive me..
