Literally cannot believe I was ever scared of getting older like this is awesome. Learning so many new things about myself & reacting to things that used to get under my skin so differently. This is so sexy.
MAD MEN | 5.01
that is all I can say sometimes…
The Innocents (1961) dir. Jack Clayton
you should really get comfortable believing in love and magic and whimsy or you’ll continue to live a half-life for the rest of the time you have on earth
We can actually bring Saturn into this in an interesting way. Ancient astrologers really understood what I was just talking about. Saturn is the furthest out planet we can see with the naked eye, and that was rightly understood to mean Saturn is the planet of structure, discipline, limitation; not the planet of the far-out, ineffable, fantasy, etc. If you can see/imagine it, you can root yourself there. Then look at actionable steps, or refine it with tools (words in this case)
Let me tell you as pervasive the "inflate your accomplishments" thing is when applying for jobs / the joke of like *I guess I'm a consultant because I consult the cash register* or whatever, this stuff is not done or practiced nearly enough.
I work at a university alongside student workers who are graduating right now, and I’m helping them articulate their work experience in our division. And dude they have no idea how to talk about themselves at all. Little grasp on the genuine impact they're making or how those skills could be relevant to other areas. Ditto the applicants I'm interviewing to take over my current role right now. I'm not knocking these people or anything, this kind of thing is contrived in a lot of ways. It just makes me sad! We need to be saying "puff up your resume" a whole lot more actually because that invites self reflection and chances are your wildest exaggerations are not far off from reality.

when gillian flynn said “I’ve grown quite weary of the spunky heroines, brave rape victims, soul-searching fashionistas that stock so many books. I particularly mourn the lack of female villains — good, potent female villains. Not ill-tempered women who scheme about landing good men and better shoes (as if we had nothing more interesting to war over), not chilly WASP mothers (emotionally distant isn’t necessarily evil), not soapy vixens (merely bitchy doesn’t qualify either). I’m talking violent, wicked women. Scary women. Don’t tell me you don’t know some. The point is, women have spent so many years girl-powering ourselves — to the point of almost parodic encouragement — we’ve left no room to acknowledge our dark side. Dark sides are important. They should be nurtured like nasty black orchids.”
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) dir. Steven Spielberg
Love seeing women with bare faces, short fingernails, practical shoes, comfortable clothing, a full plate, a toothy grin, a relaxed posture. Love love love seeing women comfortable and happy and unselfconscious.
