"rika... i know it bit you, but that doesn't mean you can punch it. or curl it into a ball and toss it away." behind him a little hairball creature was shivering, peeking out from its safe spot behind his leg. in front of him a grotesque monster was sulking. this spiramonster ordeal had certainly brought about an interesting scenario or two.

Of all the names on the lengthy phone list that Maki had recognized, Yuuta was the only one she had gone to the trouble of calling. They had more history than she had with the others and for better or for worse she did relate to him more than anyone else. Not that she'd said much on the phone, just asking him to meet her out at a specific park late at night.

"Sorry, I know I cut our conversation short. Talking on the phone isn't really my style." She still felt a little guilty about it though. He was probably happy to see her, but sentimentality was something she had difficulty expressing. "Hello Rika." The shadow looming behind Yuuta didn't go unaddressed, not that she was expecting a reply.

"How long have you been here? What do you remember last from back home? I'm trying to figure out where everyone stands..." Maki rubbed at the back of her head. She was wearing a complicated expression. "This place sure is annoying as hell."

despite having several of his acquaintances present since the very moment he had arrived (plus one common foe he supposed), in the end yuuta had felt the most comforted when maki's name had popped up on his phone screen in an incoming call. loneliness wasn't exactly the correct term to sum up his feelings with, nor did he really know how to describe it, but seeing his juniors mess around often made him think of his own class mates.

certainly, the younger trio had already experienced far more than anyone their age should ever have, but as their senior, yuuta couldn't help but feel some sort of responsibility towards them. he wasn't one of them. but when he spotted the scarred figure in the darkness of the park, he couldn't help the smile spreading on his face as he shook in head to her apologies. rika peeked out from behind him, her monstrous hands resting on his shoulders, but despite the greeting she remained silent. his expression turned serious but a moment later.

"we all split up," he informed briefly and to the point. maki wasn't looking for any sugarcoating the situation. "i was about to head to sendai, but then i came back here." he understood though. time seemed to flow differently in this place, so had he met her the last time he was here, he might have been shocked by her appearance. "'annoying' is only the beginning of it, i'm afraid. time here doesn't follow the same flow as we're used to, and if that isn't a danger in itself, you never know what might occur. even i'm incredibly powerless in the hands of whatever forces are controlling this place."

As he emerges from the water Eiden waves his hand excited to see a familiar face, Yuuji's friend no less!!! The more of them, the better of course. He didn't meet Yuuta all that many times but greets him like an old friend.

" Back here huh? You've been gone for a while... - the turtle ride is pretty cool, you should def try it out -- "

" Have you said hi to Yuuji yet?"

when he had found himself back in his usual life, yuuta had almost been tempted to believe the city of spirale was some sort of lucid dream to ease up the tragic reality. but now that he yet again had opened his eyes to the cityscape, the memory of home, ravaged by curses, panic and death seemed a more likely nightmare. unfortunately neither was false.

the bags under his eyes darker and heavier than ever, his eyes void of light were cast upon familiar features.

"oh, it's you." perhaps said in a more lackluster tone than expected, yuuta was actually rather happy to see the familiar face, as well as the question about a common acquaintance. it gave him hope that yuuji could have led at least some semblance to a normal life in this place at least. yuuta forced a smile upon his features.

"no, i haven't seen him yet." after what he had experienced while gone, he was also somewhat hesitant to do so. "what's actually going on here? some kind of festival? how great!" hopefully eiden wouldn't think too much about the topic avoidance.

The fact that Kiba makes this strange mechanic shrilling noise only makes Kugisaki think YES, Kiba loves it. It hovers over Kugisaki's shoulder happily, it's little metal wings gently brushing up against Kugisaki's cheek as it flies around her.

"Heheheh!" At the corner of her eyes, she spots--

well, he was certainly used to seeing monster-like creatures all around town, but usually such sights were mainly limited to sorcerers (at least they had been for the longest time) and tended to be far more grotesque in nature than some of the cuddly creatures that wandered about. especially the whole situation with what appeared to be personal monsters seemed no longer unique to his own situation.

"kugisaki-san," he greeted back the voice of his junior calling out to him. it seemed rare for her to be so giddy. she seemed pretty into the whole monster situation too somehow, but maybe it made her feel like a shikigami user or something. he supposed some familiars could be pretty cute.

"kiba, hn? i didn't think you'd be so into this whole thing." casting his glance behind his back to the strange little one eyed furball that was riding atop rika's head, he mused on. "i hadn't even thought about giving it a name. i'm just glad rika gets along with it."

The snow crunched underneath their heavy feet as the two Jujutsu Tech High School students navigated the wintry terrain. Yuuji kept his eyes forward, tracing the steps he had walked a hundred times. He turned his head over his shoulder to peer at the senior who followed a few steps behind. Yuuji had heard stories of Yuuta from the second years over dinner. Yuuta had unimaginable power preserved from Rika’s curse and his innate skill derived from his impressive lineage. Yuuji understood what it was like to wield an awesome power. The difference being that he was kin to a bomb and Yuuta a firearm. Yuuji had no control over the detonation, he only feigned control.

Yuuji stepped over a tree he fell back in summer and looked at the scar he left upon the bark of a standing tree. He looked down to the spot now covered in snow where he promised Megumi to defend their lives together; he needed to be stronger than his partner. Yuuji needed to make sure that if Megumi lost, he could save him. Yuuji turned around to face Yuuta, an awkward and tense smile stretched across his lips. 

“We won’t be bothered out here. Only Fushiguro knows about this place. Let’s go all out, Okkotsu-Senpai.” He lowered his weight and increased the distance between his feet into a solid karate stance. He fought plenty of cursed spirits and sorcerers at this point, though the strongest person he battled had been Todo. He recollected his fight with Todo and realized how tough that fight had been, but his senior taught him invaluable information. Channel all his negative energy like a river constantly flowing-- steady negative output of energy and use it wisely.

Yuuji’s eyes widened and he closed the distance within a second. His fists jutted out in rapid successions. He had no intention to land a hit, he wanted to gauge Yuuta’s reflexive speed and style in combat. He could learn everything about his opponent in the first thirty seconds of a fight. He didn’t even need to land a hit or soak a hit to comprehend Yuuta’s drive to obtain victory. He had to be careful… Yuuji knew if Yuuta ever became his enemy… he would die by his hands.

when yuuji had showed interest in training with him, yuuta had not for a moment hesitated to agree. certainly he might be acknowledged as a genius of jujutsu even from the very get-go but without the proper training and technique, even a sorcerer of much lower rank would easily be able to take him on in a fight. not to mention, he didn't quite feel satisfied with being labelled without having to put any effort into the praise. could he not live up to the title as the second strongest sorcerer of the current era, then he might as well be worthless.

it was only the creaking sound of the snow being flattened beneath their footsteps that broke the silence as he followed the younger boy to the designated arena. as they walked his attention was on their surroundings, taking in the general layout to mentally prepare advantages and disadvantages in position. there wasn't much in the way of surprise attacks other than the sparse trees surrounding them and the fresh, undisturbed snow covering the ground. that was fine, he supposed. from what he knew about yuuji, he mainly relied on power and strength to overpower the enemy, and if he couldn't he would attempt to use his surroundings to close the cap in strength and experience.

"i wouldn't have it any other way," he agreed with a smile that was hard to interpret the meaning of as yuuji stated his wishes for their battle. no restraints. pretty much anything but killing was fair. yuuta drew his wooden katana and tossed the sheath that might as well be pointless at the ground by his feet. inhaling sharply he clenched and loosened his grip around the handle and steeled his glare to have absolutely full attention on yuuji. who was already preparing to go for the first move.

he moved his upper body sideways to judge yuuji's fist that, although appearing in the blink of an eye, was obviously not meant to connect. despite his impressive words of resolve, it was quite natural that yuuji would treat this as a sparring match subconsciously. their difference in actual combat was still quite far apart, and yuuji did not have the bloodlust it required to land such an obvious attack even on a weakened yuuta. using the momentum of his turning body, yuuta followed all the way through to swing his katana full forc towards yuuji's upper side. with any luck he'd get a rib or two, but supposedly his opponent had a ridiculously sturdy body.
