"Melusine" by the German artist Heinrich Vogeler, 1912.
And the 100 points in pillow tossing goes to Hel." He exclaimed loudly with a playful expression while being hit by a pillow. Despite the sour reception he remained in good spirits and assumed she would respond with even more biting banter. "Nope, wrong animal species." A giggle erupted as she draped herself in fabric with nothing but her freckled face exposed. It was a grumpy morning today, huh? Maybe he shouldn't have increased his teasings this early on.
Ratatosk remained hunched down halfway as he watched the little rubber duck floating away before landing on the floor. Then his gaze shifted to Hel who spoke up again. "Are you sure? I could swear there exist a portrait with you in a dark blue bonnet..." One thumb was pressed to his chin while replying to her commentary. This train of thought distracted him from staying vigilant as Hel launched an attack with her foot and caused him to fall on his back.
"Holy Helheim." He winced and touched his aching hip. "Hel, my dearest, you could become a football player or a martial arts expert with that kind of leg strenght. I'll probably have a bruset as large as Iceland in a few hours. It could be a new uncovered country right here on my hip. I'll call it Rataheim and I'll ban football players and martial arts experts from entry."

"Ugh!" She groaned miserably. Everything was going to be a play on words with him. Or some attempt to rile her feathers and lure her to action. She just knew it. The goddess exhaled once, small and defeated.
"We don't have to sit for those portraits, Ratatoskr." Hel explained, unsure if she could recall that particular image herself. Her "likeness" or.. perceived.. vaguest notion of her physicality.. had been down so many times, from rock, to bone, to wood, to paper.. she couldn't even comprehend the extent of her being in the minds of those that had not yet had the misfortune to cross her path...
It wasn't a comfortable acknowledgement. Being known of from such a distance..
She slowly leaned off the side of the bed and tilted her head at him in such a way that concealed by the blankets, one might wonder if she possessed a shoulder at all. "You are too much among the Midgardians, Rata. I haven't partaken of sports since Knattleikr went out of fashion, and you know this."
For the rest of his rant, she just laid back on her matress, still only her face exposed as she stared at the ceiling of her room. "Then shall I take a belt? Would you let me be then?"
Even as she spoke the words, Hel knew it was a hapless venture. She was his. To bother. To disparage. To vex. Always. Sleep remained inconsequential.
The groaning huffs almost made him feel guilty for bouncing around loudly in Hel's chamber. Almost. It was a beautiful day already and there was no one else he'd rather spend precious time with than her. Hanging around with mortal girls he couldn't play his favorite tricks freely like this. Besides, Hel neeed some fresh air and sunshine.
"Oh, you got a point there." At times he forgot that mortals often used their imagination to portray Gods, ghouls or other beings. Not all people could be face to face with Oden, Thor or Freja. Come to think of it, he had seen a lot of art pieces that depicted Norse Gods with different features and most works had not been even close to reality.
He leaned his head to meet her gaze with a puzzled expression. "Is it, a bad thing for me to be in Midgård?" Nails dug into the bed sheet. For once he looked serious and for a fleeting moment he was unnaturally silent.
"That'll probably take a few years but uh, I think I'll be bored without you visiting Rataheim once in a while." Ratatosk inched closer and lay down as well. "Will you go to the beach with me in an hour or two?"

It's easier to watch the stars alone. Somehow, they were more meaningful after an intense storm. Winter turned to spring. Death begat life. It wasn't cold anymore. No longer did any snow fall. Crops were flourishing, and the world was village was peaceful.
Inuyasha however, was restless.
And he'd long since given up seeing a gaze in the starlight.
This foreign land was turning green after a long winter filled with darkness. Trees were once again covered in leaves and spuds ready to blossom. Fenja had been basking in sunlight and bathed in springwater. It didn't remove the smells of rot clinging to her but she felt better afterwards.
At night fall she searched for a spot for star gazing but found out the sky wasn't clear enough. While wandering she sensed a heavy dog scent. Though as Fenja looked around she saw no dog but a white gähaired man cloathed in red. Among white locks rose a pair of fluffy ears.
"Greetings."
@thesilvermoonrays
Hideous. He loathed that word. How many times had he heard it thrown toward him? Yes, the things happening to her body were terrifying, even grotesque were one not really used to such a thing, but--
He had grown somewhat used to the stench by now.
Which is why he didn't hesitate to reach out and put his arm in front of her to stop her.
"And ya won't, not today," golden eyes narrowed as he tilted his head toward her. "As much of a bastard as he is, don't make yerself to be what he wants ya to be so he can justify killin' ya. It's not worth it."
It was an ugly thing to call someone..
Hearing such a word from someone who had sung her praises earlier burned hotter than metal. Friends or loved ones didn't use such words towards each other. Humans tossed it around willfully to harm and humiliate people.
The word hideous had been uttered towards her many times before arriving to this foreign land. Men with torches and pitchforks ready to burn her home. Hideous meant fear of the unknown, which in turn grew into blind hatred. Humans could create beautiful worlds filled with art and music but then turn their weapons towards those who happened to be different.
Fenja knew that marrying a human was bound to fail eventually but she had no idea how fast it would escalate. How futile it truly was to develop a relationship while keeping her identity hidden. If only she had been more careful and kept quiet when being observed by a demonic being.
She managed to stand on hind legs while flexing her claws. Ready to run forward when being stopped. One arm gesture in front of her. A firm glanze. Then he spoke. His words made Fenja stare back with narrowed eyes. Fenja's ears twitched while wrinkles grew between her eyes. "The last time I showed mercy I lost all of my siblings..."
