"Are you some kind of pirate? I've never seen a real pirate before! Well only in the movies and comics. But I thought they were a legend or something. The sea where I come from is very polluted and there are few transports that withstand the acid water." //hello!

❝ What? No, I'm not a pirate... ❞ A little more Christopher Columbus and a little less Jack Sparrow, David was. Though as a man who knew his way around a ship, he could understand the confusion. ❝ I'm an explorer, y'know... charting out the new world and such. ❞ David folded his arms. ❝ I've gotta ship under my ownership but I'm nothing like those shiny-thing obsessed trilobites. ❞ Much to their dismay, if there was one thing he'd learned pirates like more than shiny things, it was company.

❝ Sadly, Pirates are more real than any of us would like to admit, ⸻and they're bad news... Nothing to idolize. ❞ Pirates are the reason he's like this. Forgive him if he's a little touchy, but David couldn't go back to his family looking like a rat, which put him under a lot of undue stress.

Usually he didn't just straight up tell people that, but he didn't want this cat eyeing him like a piece of meat.

❝ My clothes just... shrank with me, —I'm being serious! ❞ David could put himself in someone else's inordinate black boots and see how the cat could think he was lying, but he was telling the truth.

❝ If it's any consolation, I'm not a big fan of being a vermin ether. ❞ Since David had gotten to the Irish coast, he'd been encountering an army of haunted, demonic spirits and creatures, but he never knew they got this big.

Add it to the list of things that wouldn't be as bad if he were still human, But barely. 18 feet of red demonic muscle was nothing to scoff at.

❝ Oh, my sincerest apologies, I forgot all monkeys don't look the same. ❞ David said sarcastically, finding it hard to take DK seriously anymore after he just showed him his butt.

❝ ⸻and I'm a rat. Ya hypocrite. ❞ To be safe, as much as Donkey Kong was pissing him off, this would be the first and last time David would antagonize him.

David walked off, cutlass in hand, steadily increasing a safe distance from DK. That had to be the worst first impression of someone he'd ever had, but he wasn't gonna lose sleep over it since it was just a dumb animal.

Now with his day a little bit worse, the rat cleaved his way through the bramble, stepping on a banana peel and slipping. ❝ Gaah! ❞

Falling on his back, the rat got up slowly, seething. ⸻That was ether DK or some other chimp who had left their garbage on the ground.

"That's okay, you didn't kno--" mid sentence, Donkey Kong quickly realizes the other creatures sarcasm and his face drops into an annoyed frown, brow furrowing and all.

Eye twitching slightly, a growl rumbles in the back of his throat. DK wasn't the type to pick on smaller creatures but this guy not only mistook him for a monkey but had the gull to have an attitude about it when he was corrected. Who pooped in HIS banana flakes this morning?

The glare he wears quickly dissipates the moment he watches the rat slip on one of his old banana peels and he can't help but snort out a laugh. "Ahaha! That's karma, baby!" He cackles. He can't help but trot over to the rat, his knuckles carrying him forward. Suddenly, his day just became a little bit more interesting.

"Where ya headed off to, little guy?" His words are intentionally patronizing. "Or are you lost?"

Falling back down, David unsheathed his cutlass up at DK once the ape got too close. ❝ Watch it Knuckle-dragger. ❞

He gets up. ❝ Fine, ya got me, I'm heading towards the mines. ❞ If no hard feelings were present, David didn't see any reason not to share that information with the animal.

❝ There could be oil there, not to mention coal and diamonds, and unlike you, I've got a job to do. ❞ A true Settler to the end, David clearly had eyes for how much Kong Isles would be worth and the natural resources in the land he could consume. This place had apparently been untouched by human hands, and though his hands weren't human at the moment, his intentions were.

Rumor had it even the mines themselves, the mines used to MINE resources, had been built by a race of sentient crocodile people. David wasn't sure how much he bought that story, but as long as the mines functioned, he didn't give a damn how they were built.

It was at this moment David wished he wasn't a rat right now.

❝ N-nice monkey. ❞ While he wasn't expecting the gorilla to eat him, he wouldn't put it past the wild ape to attack him. ❝ Just uh, ⸻passing through. ❞

At 2 feet tall, regular apes became towering giants. Could be worse though... David could easily stand to be shorter depending on how cruel his curse wanted to be.

The ape had been scavenging for bundles of bananas in the thicker parts of the jungle; that’s where the tastiest bananas were! Not only that but this specific area yielded bananas with healing properties! Just in case he got himself into a scrape and needed a quick pick me up.

Donkey Kong hadn’t even noticed the small mammal passing by until he spoke. Brows furrowed, DK’s eyes bounce around in search of the voices source only to land on the small creature scurrying through these parts.

“Hey man, I’m NOT a monkey.” He responds with a little agitation, turning to show off his rear. “Do you see a tail?” He questions, glancing back at the rodent expectantly before turning his form back around. A huff escapes his nostrils as he plops down on the forest floor, leaning down to get a better look at the creature.

“And what are you supposed to be? A wingless bat?” Rats didn’t exactly frequent Kong Isle as the jungle was difficult place to hide from predators for the small guys. For this reason, the rodent stuck out like a sore thumb.

❝ If you need me to point and shoot, I can do that. ❞ —Of course, this was an arcade cabinet, so Ryuji wasn't expecting David to pull out his musket in a public space.

Staring at the screen of the video game console like it was a reflective crystal ball of mystery, David found his hands on the joystick, names 3 characters long displayed on the 16-bit software displaying Ryuji's high score along with everyone else's.

David took a breath, stomaching the witchcraft laid in front of his face as best he could while Simultaneously not wanting to seem like a killjoy, as Ryuji was having a lot of fun here.

He may have been a rat now but he was a rat the size of a human child that could talk.... and so far his current furry form hadn't made animals any more intelligible.

❝ Here, let me help you out of that. ❞ David grabbed Pinky's little paw and helped pull him out of the sticky mud, —which was getting hard like cement on him. As far as David was concerned he would have done this as a human too.

Pinky had been aimesly trashing his arms around, trying to free himself from the sticky mud. Oh, how could this have happened? All he wanted was to ask a leaf to teach him how to fly, and didn't even notice were he was going when chasing it! He was so focused on freeing himself he hadn't noticed the pirate that was standing before him.

"OH, NARF! THIS IS THE END! AND THAT I NEVER GOT TO DO SO MANY THINGS! LIKE GETTING SHOT OUT OF A CANNON, OR GET AN AUTOGRAPH FROM THE EASTER BUNNY, OR-!"

As he heard a voice from above, he suddenly felt a hand grab him and lift him up, setting him free from the substance that was keeping him trapped. Bits of it were still on him but he didn't mind, atleast for now. He turned his attention from below, to the rat that had saved him.

"Egad, my hero! I really though i was done for! Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! I would repay you, but i never really gave you any money in the first place! I could give you some now, if you want!"

❝ Hey, don't mention it. ❞ Despite the way he dressed, David wasn't that kind of pirate, —the ruthless kind.

❝ I say keep your money, I won't have much use for it while I'm like this. ❞ David was far too small to captain and sail a ship anymore.

❝ This stuff is like quicksand, that's Ireland for you. ❞ David had been so many places, and gathered so much worldly knowledge prior to his rodent curse that he was willing to share. ⸻But another time.

❝ I have to head out, but... you think I can trust you to hold something for me? It's really important. ❞ Trusting in Pinky's odd level of sapience, David showed Pinky the odd, Ancestral Amulet he'd gotten from Admiral Benjamin, which was David's key to returning back to human form, but between his rifle, his cutlass and his coins, David was running out of pocket room on himself, so he was essentially using Pinky as a bank or storage unit, —the mouse was the least shady rodent he'd come across.

❝ Watch yourself, Keep it safe. I'm coming back for it. ❞

The near 2-foot rat looked down at the little mouse lady, quickly noticed she was wearing clothes (though she lacked pants) and was getting conflicting visual cues to if she'd been effected by Flora's curse too or was just a regular mouse.

❝ *Ahem*... Please tell me you're just a mouse? ❞ The American Settler was many things, a pervert was not one of them.

David admired just about everything about the craftsmanship that was on display here. This was a ship made with a lot of love, so much so David wouldn't dare step dirty boots on it any further without Luffy's permission.
