HI ALL!
Wow, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? I’ve returned to ask for your help in sending these wonderful debaters to Nationals! They have worked so hard this year to get there, they just need the final push!

HI ALL!

I just love your blog. And I wanna reblog like everything.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it!
2014 Jan/Feb LD Topic
Resolved: Developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction when the two are in conflict.
Thoughts? Opinions? How are you going to attack this one? What's the best argument you've heard so far?
Please draw your attention to the criteria for giving out a 30. This is sheet is a result of one of my friends having messed up pools at the last 3 local tournaments because he was too much of a points fairy. At one point quadruple pull ups were required. This was emailed to him and given out at the most recent local tournament.
"what did you do this weekend?"
"oh i was at a debate tournament"
"what side were you on?"

and counting! Thanks for following and sharing your thoughts and ideas!
When crossfires get heated
Hi there! I'm the captain of my forensics team, and this year we've had a huge influx of kids. My coach sorta just started to throw people wherever, and now we have two new LDers, and no well-experienced people to help them out. I've been trying to brush up on LD so I could help coach them, and I was wondering if you have any ideas for philosophy books/any references that might help them out? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you! -Molly
Hi Molly! So LD is a value-based debate, which means that the entire case needs to uphold one specific value. More often than not, the values for resolutions can be taken from http://debate-central.ncpa.org/common-ld-values/, which also gives a brief explanation of what each of the values are. The case needs to be built from that value. Any contentions that don't support it need to either be reworded or thrown out.
Truth be told, I am a firm believer that practice makes perfect. Give them the format, teach them to write a solid case, and throw them in. There are so many little things that you will never pick up on unless you are in the room and that spotlight is on your face. Have them watch a round or two, let them flow. Have them argue against each other, and point out flaws in their cases. ALWAYS have them defend their values.
If you have any resolution-specific questions, feel free to ask! Or even share this blog with the LDers!
How's everyone's season going so far?
Who has the funniest story about their most recent tourney? Who swept the floor with their cases? I want to know!
as your opponent lists all of the points you dropped because you only had four minutes to speak
winning a round you thought you lost
back to back rounds instead of lunch
kids trying to explain how nukes work to me
me judging a novice pf round where they all speak out of turn
How do you feel about the new topic? (The truth-seeking one)
I think it is super interesting because I really think it's really relevant! I personally think the criminal justice system should be all about finding the truth and serving actual justice, not necessarily following strict laws and finding loopholes that can set an obviously guilty person free. But I also believe in a person's right to privacy! However, I think once there is enough evidence against a person that they need to have a lawyer to defend them, there should be no need to hide the truth unless the person is guilty. I think this will be a super interesting topic! There are tons of points you can make on either side, and I'm sure lots of court cases to reference!
As with any topic, feel free to share any good points you've come up with, any ideas on which values are superior, or any cards you may have!
i <3 your blog, we need more debate personal tumblrs out there :D Have you ever debated policy?
Well thank you! I've never competed in a policy event, but I've seen many, many rounds, and know its safer to avoid them!
