Mythological Monday #6
'A Terrible Appetite' In Slavic myths, Baba Yaga is the wild woman or dark lady of magic and in Russian folklore there are many stories about her. She is more than just an ugly old witch, for she has power; people should fear and respect her. She is known for eating people. The story of Baba Yaga and Vasilisa the Fair is one of the well-known tales and has things in common with other folk tales, such as Cinderella.
Mythological Monday #5
'The Noise in the Cellar' The Kikimora is an evil female household spirit in Slavic Mythology. She usually lives in the cellar or behind the stove. She would make noises to get food. The Kikimora would terrorize the family, if the house wasn’t well kept. But if it was well kept she would help to take care of the chickens and other household chores. According to Slavic traditions, the Kikimora entered a house through the keyhole and attempted to strangle people in their sleep. The Kikimora normally sat on the sleeping person and strangled them. Ancient Russians assumed that the Kikimora was the cause of sleep paralysis.
