Reflection

With the semester almost being over I’ve come through many changes and one of them is my thoughts about writing and rhetoric. At the beginning of the semester I believed it was just writing with the purpose of sending a message and convince your audience. But now, I see more that that. Its not just writing but a way to express yourself and more so a life style. There is so much more than just writing there is all the genres and how to use them all and being able to combine more than one together. Sure enough we will not get away from writing since we will continue seeing it throughout our lives no matter what career path we take. And most definitely my thoughts about writing and rhetoric will continue to change as I move on with my education because there is so much to learn. 

One of the requirements of the course was to maintain a Tumblr blog to keep up with one section of our weekly assignments our Reading Responses. The reading responses consisted mainly of what we learned after reading the weeks reading which tied to our main assignments. Part of the responses consisted of including some type of mixed media. For the most part they where GIF’s. These GIF’s allowed me to visually explain what I was trying to say in writing and to express how I felt. This in my personal experience facilitated my learning since I’m a visual learner. Making it easier for me to understand the rhetorical side of the posts. 

This method sure enough influenced my perception of rhetoric since its what made me realize that writing is more than just writing but being able to use multimodality’s in a post. Sure enough having more than one genre will help your message be delivered in a more effective and faster way since your allowing those visual learns feel a part of the learning process. 

What I consider my top 3 posts are the following...

Week one is one of them, because I believe it was a good start on using Tumblr. I didn’t know what to expect from it I just know I was willing of trying it for the course. And for my surprise it ended up being something I enjoyed mainly because of the GIF’s. As well as the fact that I did a video it was something that I enjoy but it sure was a challenge because the length of the video was limited so I had to shorten it.

Next would be my post from week 5. This post was about how to for questions, and personally I think this was one of my favorite sections because what would the world be without questions. Thus I found this section very helpful only because what I have left in my schooling I will still be doing researches and this section sure helped me develop the way I ask questions.

My last best post is the last one we did from week 12. Not just because it was the last reading response but because of the connection that was created with my classmates. This in a way facilitated a way of communicating with them since we only saw each other once a week. It helped break the awkwardness while having class discussions.  All though I did the post wrong I’m still proud of it and it taught me to reread instructions.

Over all my experience using Tumblr was very good! I actually enjoyed using it. Its a great method of getting a break from the daily routine this case would be Blackboard. What I like most about Tumblr was the GIF’s I think they added a piece of humor to the reading responses making them more enjoyable to read. A didn’t really dislike anything about it just that the videos have a limit of 2 minutes which isn’t enough time for someone that likes to talk like me. And like I said it made it fun and easier to interact with my classmates. It worked as an icebreaker and connected us better by understanding each other and sharing the same ideas. I honestly wouldn’t change anything about my Tumblr experience. I might have been hesitant at the beginning like everyone else but at the end it helped me break my shell of not trying new ways of working.

Last Reading Response

This week’s last reading from the article, “ Developing Multimodal Academic Literacies Among College Freshmen” by Gloria E. Jacobs talked about the incorporation of multimodals in a academic environment and how it can lead to the opportunities of developing a creative learning process. This meaning the multi use of different genres at the same time. This idea can help better understand a topic since it contains two or more genres, allowing different type of learners comprehend the topic. Thus, it can guide students on how academic arguments are constructed. Adding multimodals in writing can be fun and it enriches the contenst as Jacobs mentioned it, “The primary difference between the multimodal text and a traditional text was in how the use of multiple modes enriched the content the students were working to share”. 

I can relate my major with this weeks reading because in Marketing there is constant presentations involving text and multimodals. Whether its is because a new product is being developed or presented. The use of multimodals helps and guides the presentation run smoothly and help the audience better understand by providing visual if you’re a visual learner or a comprehensive learner. 

This reading gave me more knowledge to understand my last assignment the AVA. Not only did it expand on what we already know, but it gave precise details of how and why multimodals are important to any academic arguments. As well as giving me an idea of the importance in adding visuals and text to our AVA in order to effectively construct a strong argument without boring or losing the audience interest. The information provided from the reading will definitely be useful to help me and my teammates create a successful AVA . But the question I ask myself is, if you’re using the genre most appropriate for the audience,  will too much or too little of a another genre (multimodal) make the argument lose its purpose or can it miss lead the message?

I chose my first GIF because that’s how I feel after reading the article and trying to sum it up since it contained a lot of information. Not only that but because after doing all of these Tumblr posts I feel like I won the battle or I proved myself I was going to excel and noting to worry about. As for my last GIF currently shows what I will be doing after the semester is over not only for this class but for all my classes.

Week 12 Reading Response

This weeks reading in chapter 10 focused on the formats and modalities when designing arguments. There are different kind of arguments such as visual arguments, its main purpose is to get their argument across but in a visual manner, kind of what we have started doing in class. Verbal arguments are arguments used with words like academic presentations and speeches. I think personally i prefer a visual argument rather than any other of the types just because i am a visual learner so i feel it would be the best way to get my argument across. 

The way formats and modalities writers use to convey arguments has an impact on how they argument is shaped by helping them strict the argument to focus on communication effectively with the audience to get their point across. If the argument is off topic or has nothing to do with what the argument is, it can loose the audiences attention and will not be effective at all.

The way Yanceys article ties into the reading is by having similar examples and points as chapter 10 does on modalities and formats. According to Yancy, the relationship between literacy and rhetoric is that he both will come together on different occasions to form one argument. My perception of literacy did not really change, however it did make me get a deeper, more firm understanding of how many ways it can be looked at and viewed.

This chapter ties in with my nursing major because when dealing with any person in any work environment, many people may have different points of views on certain subjects/things so to solve they problem this would be the professional way to handle it and hopefully solve their mis understandings. 

I think this chapter really helped me understand the structure of arguments and it will help with my AVA project by me knowing exactly how to put my argument together. 

The gif i used above is demonstrating a puzzle all coming together to form one cube. I thought it would be appropriate to use because it is like me putting my AVA project all together to form one, and also like an argument all coming together to have one strong argument.

After I read your post it gave me a better understanding that we can use the readings to help or AVA have a better shape as well as how to build it to in order for it to be effective on our audience. Reading Response Week 12

For this week’s reading response we had to read chapter 10 of WIT. This chapter discussed the type of designing arguments by focusing on formats and modalities. Written arguments can range from different types of modalities such as scholarly, public scholarship and popular scholarship. It goes into depth on how to think visually with visual arguments. As always visual arguments is the use of visual aids in order to make an argument. We are given a few common examples of type of visual arguments such as photographic essays, an argument that emerges in the form of photographs. Also others that would help in a visual argument like the use of graphics. Other ideas were shared that we already had covered in class such as creating a poster, website and video. There are also verbal arguments that can occur at various stages of the writing and research process. The common form of verbal arguments are academic presentation, PSAs (Public Service Announcments) and films and videos that can incorporate a verbal argument.

With this week’s reading I can use this knowledge to help my groups AVA project to become a success. I see us using more of a verbal type argument as we will be doing a video of the false advertising of make up. Our video is going to be some what like a PSA, but it has an extended time frame than what a PSA usually is. We want to grab our audience’s attention and make them become aware of the fact that social media is falsely advertising make up products. I can also use this knowledge for my major when conducting a scholarly written modality of an argument and conduct studies to further my argument to a certain audience such as health scientists and scientists in the Kinesiology department as well as those who are concerned with their health.  

I used this gif because when I read this chapter I saw PSA. I remembered what a PSA was and that I had done one in my RWS 1301 class which gives me the satisfaction that I have done a verbal argument. I am absolutely amazed.

Willie I like how you broke down every detail from the reading it sure did help me understand the reading without difficulty and without me having to read every section of the chapter over and over again till my brain understood what I was reading. You examples also made it a lot more easier to get an idea of what the different arguments consist of and get an idea which one suits better for the audience you may have.

Week 12 Response

Chapter 10 Designing Arguments: Formats and Modalities talked about the different categories of argument and the way people transmit those arguments. Some examples of these arguments are written, verbal, and visual all with the purpose of persuading the audience to promote awareness to an issue and present a possible solution for that particular issue. Let’s take the visual for instance. In a visual argument sometimes might include visual/verbal collaboration where images and text work hand in hand to clarify, contradict, or challenge common understanding or they might stand alone only showing visuals such as images. No matter what modality you use, at the end the purpose is the same to present your particular stand in a issue and present a possible solution to it, it all just depends which one you believe will be more effective on your audience. This reading helped me understand our last major assignment in a sense that we will be presenting an argument and taking a stand to it but it’s more so of connecting with the audience and effectively giving and presenting the argument in a way that suits the audience and obviously getting their attention because you don’t want to loose your audience during your presentation and bore them. 

This relates to my major in a very significant way since marketing is about visuals and texts and convincing your audience to sell or purchase your product. Let’s use the T.V. show Shark Tank as an example, the entrepreneurs are selling/marketing their product or service to the sharks (judges rich mean people) and their goal is to convince at least on of the sharks that their product or service is worth investing their money so it can be used by consumers, while using evidence visuals or text such as graphs statistics to prove it. 

I used my first GIF because that’s the reaction you want from your audience after your presentation and as for the second one because you want for your audience to engage during your presentation and to get their attention plus to show who the sharks are if someone isn’t familiar with the show.

Week 11 Reading Response

This weeks readings were Chapter 8 and 9 whose topics are framing and constructing an argument. Chapter 8 emphasized on the importance of not focusing on winning an argument, but on arguing the evidence of the research and on the position you stand whether your for or against. As well as not making the argument opinion based since it could lose the relevance of the research. Furthermore, it talked about on how the argument should be persuasive while effectively presenting your position and research. Which leads to the topic of Chapter 9, on how to fit or structure an argument in a certain way so it can effectively reach the targeted audience. While keeping in mind the factors that can affect the presentation of the argument such as the tone is being used as well as images, fonts, backgrounds and contrasts if presenting it in a video or poster. 

The readings have a relationship with my major in the sense that in Marketing there is constant research and using that research to present a certain product or idea and taking a side and persuade the audience of why that idea or product your selling is the best for the market.Thus it helps me visualize that for our next assignment the AVA, there will be a lot of arguments and the chapters read will definitely help in process of getting the AVA together and present it effectively. 

I picked my first GIF because that what we’ve been doing through out this course writing with a purpose whether its to convince or inform. Or it can be see differently, the research is the purpose or the evidence to support your claim. As for the second GIF it relates to how now we will incorporate the idea in this case the LIt Review into the AVA. We are simply translating the written Lit Review into the Visual Argument.

Week 8  Reading Response

This week’s reading was on Chapter 11 Choosing and Integrating Evidence. The main purpose of the chapter was on to effectively corporate evidence in academic writing. More specific how to use evidence to prove the reader how it is you came up with a conclusion. The conclusion or point must have evidence in order to establish a good credible statement or else is won’t support the claim. And a good strategy to use is the MEAL - Main Idea, Evidence, Analysis, and Link - this strategy will help organize your evidence as well as to help with the flow of the paper so it won’t be all over the place. 

This chapter gave me a more clear visual that our upcoming assignments such as the Lit Review will be having a lot of supporting claims/evidence to what ever it is that we will be covering. Not much as to argue the claim and take a side, but more of being able to prove or give a reason for that particular statement. It also helps me better understand why it is important to have a different variety of sources as well as different options. 

The relationship between the reading and my field of study is that in Marketing you must be able to have multiple reasons to support your investigation, product or whatever it is that you’re presenting. For example if you say that a new product won’t be successful in a certain area you must provide strong evidence of why not. 

I picked my first GIF because I think that I do have a hard time explaining what I comprehend from the reading only because I don’t know if it makes sense to my classmates. As for my second GIF because it relates to the over all post that you must look beyond and different aspects in order to find good evidence to prove your point or just simple support your statement.

Reading Response W7

This week we had to read Chapters 5 and 6 and it sure was a lot of information as well as the reading itself. I did have a hard time reading only because I would lose my focus and wonder off. But what I understood was that chapter 5 was all about summarizing and that a good summary should include clear ideas, mention points from the text, have the same tone as well as to presenting/giving the purpose of the text. As for chapter 6 talked about clear and effective synthesis. How to take different texts or ideas and bringing them together to make it one whole. 

The reading helped by giving me more knowledge on summarizing and how to effectively give a good summary. This will be useful when it comes down to the Annotated Bib because we are basically going to be writing a summary for each of the sources we get that will be used for our Lit Review. As well as for the Lit Review it will help structure a better synthesis since we will be taking various sources and bring them as one to preset a single idea based on our questions. 

This relates to my major because in Marketing there is a lot of presenting so you must be able to effectively summarize your presentation. For example, you wouldn’t want to bored the board of directors by giving them every single little detail of research you did on a product or statistics, instead you would sum in up and give the most important details while still referring to the research to support your claim. 

The used the two GIF because both are a perfect representation of how I’m currently feeling. The first one shows exactly how I felt after reading both chapters my eyes were so tired and it took me about 2 days to read them and they still feel like that. As for the second one it could’t be more accurate on how I’m feeling with all of the assignments that are due. There is so much happening all at once.

Reading Response 6

If we’re being honest here, a fact is that I don’t enjoy reading as much as I used to before. I for sure only read things that interest me, and in times I still hesitate to read. But when it comes to school readings there’s just something that doesn’t add up. For some reason I get bored, distracted, and for the most part I seem uninterested. But what motivates me to read is that its for school purposes and my grade depends on those readings. So the reading process I have is, to have my mind in blank and focus on what I’m reading and be in a quiet place. I will read slow and with patience. And if i don’y understand what I’ve been reading or at some point I lost focus I will reread what i just read or up to the part where I lost focus until I understand what I was reading. 

My reading process for the most part is very effective, unless the reading is very long. If its long I tend to read it once and what ever I didn’t understand I will go back and only read the sections I didn’t get versus reading the entire thing all over again. And yes I’ve encountered many obstacles because like I said I get distracted very easily and I’ll start going off subject and have my mind on other things other than the reading. As well as long readings they discourage me from reading and I lose focus more easily, but gotta find a will to get the job done. 

As we’ve already notices there is a lot of reading in this course. How I rhetorically read the content for this course is I read everything carefully word by word because the chapters do contain words I’m not familiar with so I have to use my context clues or Google. I also try and make connections in the readings using Aristotle’s argumentative appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos) as well as maybe start using the Rhetorical Triangle in page 81. I personally think this works for me best because I’m a visual leaner so making all of these connections helps me understand the readings better. 

Chapter 4 and the video helped me better understand what is expected for the Lit Review. The reading definitely went more into dept on the different types of research materials such as the primary, secondary, and tertiary. As for the video it gave examples on how to know or find out if your source will be a good one or not. Because this chapter did contain a lot of information, it sure did help me with my patience to take my time to comprehend the information it was giving me this will for sure help me with my research for the Lit Review since a good amount of reading will be done for that particular assignment.

Week 5- Reading Response

Week 5′s reading, “Poising Meaningful Questions”, talks about how important it is to develop questions while doing research. Coming up with good questions is a big factor on how well you get your information while doing research. Developing these questions will also make it easier to obtain and use the information you come up with in your research.

“Poising Meaningful Questions” connects to my major because as a Physical Therapist you have to work with your patient to get them to as normal as possible after an injury. So through out the process you ask them plenty of questions to see how they are progressing. Whether its a simple “How does it feel?” or test done on the certain injury you will always have to ask the patient something in order to move on. 

The reading gave me a better understanding on what meaningful questions can do to your paper. The Literature Review is our next assignment and seeing how it is a big part of our grade, I want to do very well on it. So, the reading gives me a way to make my paper easier and more effective. It helps me put structure into my paper, which is something I struggle with.

I also want to do good in the Lit Review because it is a big portion of our grade and like you I also want to do well, but I also have a hard time structuring my paper and the reading gives an idea of what to expect and prepares you with examples. Definitely certain questions can make a big difference in the fluidity of your paper. Just like you said good questions will have a big impact on your research and those questions can lead up to more questions but hopefully not to the point where you’re confusing yourself and getting of topic.

Reading Response Week 5

This weeks reading response is on Posing Meaningful Questions. It reminds the reader what our teachers have always told us… “there is no such thing as a dumb question”. In the Disciplinarity and Questions section it relates to my Business Major in the sense that as a business owner I will have to ask big questions. My questions would be things such as Is this a good location for my business? Is this menu item for my restaurant going to sell? And so on. This reading discusses how questions like this and research go hand in hand. Literature reviews give information about certain topics, so this chapter helped me understand how I will have to put together our next assignment without posing too many questions or arguments for the reader. It’s based more on information to keep he reader up to date. It basically answers questions a reader might have about a specific topic.

This gif relates to how I feel when I think about all the questions I need to ask before opening a business. LITERATURE REVIEW -as for the lit review assignment it was hard to come up with a topic question. I am relating it to the genre analysis, and I will be focusing on the Financial aspects of small businesses. Such as a business being profitable or not, and the growth of a business. This second gif relates to how I feel about starting up a business, where will the money come from and how much will it cost altogether.

Just like you, I’m also a business major and you’re right when you say that you have to ask yourself all of these question in order for your product/service to work or even to be successful. We always need to think ahead and in order for that to happen you must ask yourself all of these questions just like the reading mentioned it. Reading Response Week 5

In this week’s reading “Posing Meaningful Questions” chapter 3 from “Writing in Transit”, discussed the importance of developing questions to better understand your discipline or topic. Thus forming these questions will help better your research as well as to transmit your message and or content in a more effective and fluent way. We’ve been taught that there is no such thing as a bad questions, but in this case there are bad questions. In order to have a better research questions can be as simple or complicated, but in order to have that effective research those questions must be able to branch out and arise many more questions within that topic. 

This reading has so many connections with my major because in Marketing you are constantly asking questions and doing research. Whether its looking at certain places to sell a new product well there is so much research to do before determining if your product will be successful in that one place or not. Or as simple as who your target market will be. This reading also helps me understand what the LIt Review will be about. Not only will we be expanding on what we did for the Genre Analysis, but not we are going to ask ourselves why? We will be taking the information we know and convert them into questions to have a better understanding of our topic and send our message in a more effective way. 

My Lit Review topic proposal is about the false advertisement in the makeup industry. On how and why companies don’t always tell the truth about a product, because most of the time they use celebrities to hide the truth. 

I used my first GIF because Albert Einstein is a good example of how far asking questions can take you. As for my second one because we can write something beautiful but at the end it may not be meaningful and we end up starting all over again just like writing a research paper.

Analyzing Week 3 Response

This weeks reading was over chapter 7 from our book Writing in Transit. Not only did it give us an explanation of what “analyzing” is but it gave us deep details on the many ways it can be done, and how not everyone will have the same analysis as you nor the same way it was done. Just like we all have different ways of learning the same goes for analyzing some of us might be visuals (pictures, images, observations), while others might be textual (songs, notes, criticism) or aural (spoken language). At the end when it comes to analyzing you’re not just doing it on what you see, but on what you noticing any patters, understanding the text, making conclusions, and being able to explain the data to others who don’t have the background knowledge that you do over the topic. 

This reading connects to my major in all aspects! Only because there so much analyzing done in marketing from analyzing a product to the demographics of a certain area. I mean marking is not only selling a product is about research and analyzing that research to find out if a product will be successful or not and the same process is done for the reasons of it success or failure. No matter what we do in life we will always be analyzing no matter if it’s as effortless as picking a shirt, or as complex as a the molecules of life. 

The reading helped me understand with more clarity of why we interpret ideas differently. Not only that but that there’s a lot of analyzing our way with the upcoming assignments. But this reading will definitely help with with the future assignments because the chapter provides examples of the different ways to analyze it mainly works as a guide to answer any questions or any doubts I may have when writing the General Analysis or the Lit Review. 

I think my first GIF was a good visual explanation of what analyzing is because the more you look into something the more you find. As well as for the others my second GIF only because there is so much to analyse you don’t where to start, and for the last one because we as we’ve already seen we will be doing a significant amount of writing in this class.

Week 3 Reading Response

This weeks reading from Writing In Transit chapter 7, focuses on analysis. It went deeply into the understanding of what exactly analysis is and how it is used in the writing process and in our everyday lives. The best way i was able to understand the term was that it examines data in a very specific way in order to get a result of what is being analyzed. There are many ways something can be analyzed and many different questions to be asked when analyzing. A quote from this chapter that stood out to me was, “Analysis forms the basis of some of the most engaged debates and disagreements.” If you don’t think we use analysis in our everyday life decisions then think again. The first thing that popped into mind when reading this quote was the Presidential Election that has just occurred. Each American who voted had to analyze each candidate and see who they think would be best for Americas president. This proves how important analysis is because this was a big decision made when casting each vote.

The way that the analysis connects to my major is when diagnosing a patient occurs or when analyzing different diseases to get more information on them. We use analysis to “draw conclusions,” which is very important in the nursing field because you want to know exactly what you are diagnosing your patient with. You want to analyze each symptom the patient has in order to put all the information together and get one conclusion as to what might be wrong with the patient.

The reading is definitely going to help with upcoming assignments in this class because it shows the different types of data the academic writers analyze. These types are Visual, Aural, Tactile, Textual, and Quantitive. These will help with our genre analysis paper because it will give us a better understanding of what genre we choose to write about and what category it falls under.

The first gif i used was of Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton to give my explanation of how we use analysis in our everyday life. It shows both candidates in this election. The second picture i used was a doctor talking to his patient about his diagnosis which is why analysis is important in the nursing field. And the last gif i used represents me typing my genre analysis paper.

Angela, I liked how you were able to connect analysis to the recent presidential elections. It  serves to prove that  the use of analysis is inevitable.  We are constantly analyzing situations even though we might of not been aware.  It’s true how vital analysis is when voting or comparing information. I’m also a nursing major so analysis is going to be a big part of our job. Analysis is everywhere!!!

Angela, your response is beyond great! It is true no matter in what situation we find ourselves in we will always have some type of analysis and they may not all be the same. And better connection that the elections that recently happened. You’re right we all had our different nationalizations for both candidates and will always be. Comparing or tying in the lectures with current events is sure a good way to get a more full understanding of what the reading was trying to get across.

Une Analyse

Chapter 7 of “Writing in Transit” explains how analysis is used and explained differently among many disciplines and different types of analytic methods used by each. The main purpose of analysis is to better understand a given piece of data, to go deeper into detail than “the naked eye” point of view. These analyses vary between analysts; one person’s perspective of data may be different from another’s.

This image is a perfect representation of perspectives. I personally think the book’s example of many disciplines analyzing the same article is perfect to understand how analysis may differ.

Being that I want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, this chapter ties in with my career because I will be analyzing data every day! Ranging from an animal’s behavior, to the tests I will be conducting to find out why the poor creature is suffering, analysis will be a big part of my career. 

The reading helps me understand the current assignment for class in the sense of, we’re analyzing genres – hello! We may be using visual analysis and textual analysis for sure! This chapter explains very well what is to be expected from us when we analyze our genres. Be specific in the content of your selected genres in order to explain your analysis of each.

Finally, I chose this video because it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read “analysis.” Peanut(the puppet), is making fun of a business analyst. He believes a business analyst just looks around the building for two seconds and is done analyzing it, when really the analyst goes much deeper into detail in his job, which explains how someone not analyzing a certain topic will not understand the deeper meaning of it.

You did a great job explaining exactly what the reading was about. And yes it is true one must analyse beyond what our eyes see or else it won’t be a deep meaningful analysis. Not all analysis will be the same because we all have different ways of interpreting concepts and your GIF explains it very well. Reading Response

Some main points made in the article “Emerging Personal Media Genres” include the discussion of: how genres benefit a society, how a society can be more complex as the variety of genres grow, and how genres are ever evolving and growing through culture and technology. 

Considering that my major is multimedia journalism, I will be utilizing genres all the time to convey information to an audience. Wether it be through visuals, or text, or pictures, genres are used in our everyday lives. “Genres span the whole range of recognizable forms of communication.” 

After reading the article, I have a stronger understanding of how I can utilize genres to make my message stronger. Like in this tumblr post, some genres used was a picture of a woman taking a self portrait, which is a modern genre used in social media. I believe that using genres will help me with my discourse topic and as well as interacting with others.

Week 2 : Reading Response

The article “The Emerging Personal Media Genres” focuses on different types of genres. From previous classes I was taught that a genre is any “piece of text” but, after reading the article I have learned that it is much more than that. Genres as a whole are more complex than I initially thought. Certain genres “speak to” or are easily interpreted by certain discourse communities.  As our technology gets more advanced  more genres continue to pop up like social media for example. 

The reading show some connection to my major: Kinesiology. Like in personal training, you are your own advertisement. Trainers use social media and websites to promote themselves to their potential customers. They will also use e-mails to contact customers or give extra information. Although I am not sure if this falls under genres but they also use transformation picture of former customers to show they can get you results 

The reading gave me a better understanding on what a genre is. The article gave many examples and plenty of information. But reading through it I am still a little confused on exactly what a genre is. All that information is hard to take in at once so i will have to read it a couple more times to really understand.

I agree with you in the sense that it was a lot of information and it was some what difficult to keep up with the information provided and like you I'm probably going to have to read it again and break it down so I can fully understand it.
