The Downward Spiral (E, a multichapter s3 fix it fic.)
Summary:
Gi-hun saw him that night, in his dreams. Young-il was mystifying and beautiful, like he knew he too would soon die. It was as though Gi-hun saw through the real Oh Young-il who was seemingly done playing mind games with Gi-hun. He appeared to be calm, body language relaxed as if he was waiting for him. There was no sadness in his face β just elation, because he was finally set free. They were in the control room, alarms going off and the island was set to self destruct, GAME OVER flashing on the screens behind Young-il as he made no move to leave, whether by himself or with Gi-hun. He just stood there, awaiting his fate like he deserved it.
Gi-hun screamed and thrashed against invisible bondage that prevented him from ever reaching Young-il, forced to watch as the island imploded, and Young-il's face melted, from skin down to tissue and muscle and in the end exposing his skull, waking up in terror as his heart pounded.

The games end in Korea with the island's explosion. Left alone to pick up the pieces of himself lost along the way, Gi-hun is called to face the ghosts of the past β namely Ga-yeong and Hwang In-ho.
