I really appreciate how Southland beats it into you that the characters are not good people. I’m six episodes in and I hate all but like. Three characters. And that’s a good thing!! That show is so far NOT entirely licking the floor that the police walk on which is how it is with all other crime procedurals these days.

Like SWAT? The Rookie? Copaganda allll the way. Southland comes at you and says yeah these guys are mostly racist, sexist assholes who cheat on their wives and hey look at this one being a dick to the community constantly!! Oh look at this episode where they harass the community with bullshit charges because the CAPTAIN got into a drunk driving accident and his gun was stolen, so clearly Every POC has to pay the price <3

And that makes the GOOD characters, or even just the good moments, so much more compelling.
