Verse: But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8 (NKJV)

Discovery: Asking the Lord without second thoughts that bring doubts will lead to an answer. Doubting is equated to double-mindedness and instability in decision making.

Application: Do I ask in faith believing that I will receive what I am asking for? Do I realize doubting is equated to double-mindedness and instability in decision making? Have I seen answers to my prayers in my life? Did I doubt God's provision in those requests?

Reflections: October 17

Verse: And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10 (ESV)

Discovery: Doing good for people in our lives especially for those who are in the Lord is a blessing. We ought not to stop encouraging, blessing, loving and helping people in our life.

Application: Do I enjoy doing good for people in my life? Am I passionate about encouraging, blessing, loving and helping people in my life? Do I give up sometimes doing good especially when I don't see a returned favor? Is it all about returned favors or about blessing people I meet?

Reflections: October 16

Verse: But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 4:18 (ESV)

Discovery: Walking by the Spirit is a continual exercise to channelize our energies to glorify God rather than allowing our fleshly desires to overtake His will in our lives.

Application: How is my exercise routine of walking by the Spirit? Have I seen the Holy Spirit allowing me to walk according to God's will rather than I gratifying the desires of my flesh?

Reflections: October 15

Verse: It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you. Galatians 4:18 (NIV)

Discovery: God loves to see enthusiasm that is driven in the right direction. Maturity in this kind of enthusiasm is when it is comes from within you without any external pressure.

Application: Do I allow my energies to be spent on things that are for a good purpose? What are my enthusiasm levels like when I serve in the house of the Lord? Do I serve in His house under any pressure or out of a willing heart that is passionate for Jesus?

Reflections: October 13

Verse: There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 (ESV)

Discovery: We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord. We all belong to one big family in Christ with no differences based on characteristics that the world defines.

Application: Do I let my prejudices take the better of me in my relationships with people? Do I view everyone equally just as Christ views us? Do I realize that I am part of a big and blessed family in Christ?

Reflections: October 12

Verse: Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily. Galatians 2:21 (MSG)

Discovery: Living for Christ is not all about a bunch of rules that need to be kept. It is all about a living relationship with God through His grace to please nobody except Him.

Application: Do I try to keep a set of rules to please God? Do I have a personal relationship with Jesus? How is my relationship with Him today?

Reflections: October 11

Verse: Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 (NIV)

Discovery: Pleasing people and trying to win their approval before pleasing God doesn't work in the equation of being a Christian. Being a servant of God allows us to enjoy certain rights and privileges, however, we forfeit this by pleasing man or ourselves instead of pleasing God.

Application: Do I always try to win the approval of people before God in matters I should take a stand? Do I understand the consequences of pleasing people rather than God? Do I put God first in these matters?

Verse: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8 (NIV)

Discovery: Our thoughts need to rest around aspects that glorify Jesus. Thoughts that pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy, noble and true bring Him glory.

Application: Do my thoughts glorify God? What are the characteristics of my thoughts? Do they follow the pattern He commands?

Reflections: October 9

Verse: Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)

Discovery: God expects us to keep moving on - not dwelling in the past - whether good or bad, but keep moving on to see what plans God has for us.

Application: Do I realize it is not part of God's plan to stick to my past even if it was good? Do I take efforts to keep encouraging others and myself to move on to see what God has in store for us?

Reflections: October 8

Verse: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:3-5 (NIV)

Discovery: Humility is the key to growing and developing our character and leadership skills. God desires that we have the same mindset as He does for relationships with others.

Application: Humility check - how is my humility quotient today? Am I willing to be corrected as well as learn from my mistakes? In my relationships at work, church and society, do I lookout for my own interests or do I lookout to see others interests before mine?

Verse: Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel. Philippians 1:27 (NIV)

Discovery: Christ expects the church to live in a way that honors who He is and what His message stands for.

Application: Do I take a stand for things that ought not to be compromised at work, church and in my society? Do I understand that by taking no stands in life, it will led me to fall for everything? How do I honor God in other aspects of my life?

Reflections: October 5

Verse: Some of them were persuaded by what he said, but others refused to believe a word of it. Acts 28:24 (MSG)

Discovery: God speaks His word to our hearts, but it is left to us to decide whether we believe in His word. However we need to face up to the consequences if we take a route that God doesn't recommend.

Application: Do I take a conscious decision to believe what God speaks through His word and His servants? Am I aware of the consequences of not heeding to His Word?

Reflections: October 4

Verse: But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship. Acts 27:11 (NIV)

Discovery: God's advice may go against what an expert or even conventional wisdom says but it is far more trustworthy. We need to trust His advice completely to see it in action in our lives.

Application: How often do I turn to an expert for advice when God has clearly given me sound advice? Do I trust God with His advice?

Verse: What could I do, King Agrippa? I couldn’t just walk away from a vision like that! I became an obedient believer on the spot. I started preaching this life-change—this radical turn to God and everything it meant in everyday life—right there in Damascus, went on to Jerusalem and the surrounding countryside, and from there to the whole world. Acts 26:19-20 (MSG)

Discovery: When God reveals himself, you can't just walk away from it, it changes you inside out - you become a unstoppable change maker living for His glory.

Application: What was my response like when God revealed himself to me? Has the experience changed me forever?

Discovery: God's ways are not our ways - we often tend to limit God's ways of working in our lives with our ideas of how it ought to be accomplished.

Application: Do I form my own ideas of how God should work in my life? Do I limit the way God works in my life through my ideas?

Reflections: October 1

Verse: So the tribune came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” And he said, “Yes.” The tribune answered, “I bought this citizenship for a large sum.” Paul said, “But I am a citizen by birth.” Acts 22:27-28 (ESV)

Discovery: We are citizens of God's kingdom. He expects us to use the privileges of being a citizen of God's kingdom to fulfill His objectives.

Application: How conscious am I about the privileges of being a citizen of God's kingdom? Am I using these privileges to fulfill his objectives?
