Do you think AO3 should ban AI generated works?
Yes
No
I don't use AO3 / I don't know what AO3 is
*As of now, AI generated works are allowed on the site
This poll was submitted to us and we simply posted it so people could vote and discuss their opinions on the matter. If you’d like for us to ask the internet a question for you, feel free to drop the poll of your choice in our inbox and we’ll post them anonymously (for more info, please check our pinned post).
Not a fan of AI, but "do you think AO3 should ban" never actually solves a problem. Because how can you tell what's AI and what's human made? It is extremely hard to tell, and going around accusing authors of using AI — just because you suspect they do — does more harm than good. Chances are that you're accusing real writer of being AI and ruining their day at best, making them quit writing at worst.
And the act of banning never stops something from existing. It only makes it more difficult to find and avoid. Tumblr bans porn, but you can still find porn on Tumblr. The only difference is that they're no longer tagged as porn, which means you're more likely to stumble upon them because blocking the tags no longer works when they are not tagged as porn.
The same applies to AI generated works on AO3. For now they are tagged as "AI generated". You can avoid them if you don't want them.
Once they're banned, people will no longer tag them as AI, which means you have more chance of unknowingly reading and leaving kudos on AI.
Also, no, unless an author says "this was written by AI" you cannot tell for sure if something was written by AI. Em dashes aren't evidence of AI. Long and overly described paragraphs aren't evidence of AI. Real human writers do write like this and AI was trained to mimic real humans' works.
If AO3 bans AI, you will be dealing with witch-hunting, genuine writers getting wrongly accused of using AI, and AI works no longer being tagged as AI (meaning they are almost impossible to avoid and no for sure if something you read is AI)
probably gonna cry tonight not because conformitygate wasn’t real but because this was the last time byler nation goes crazy together.
I wouldn't have minded Will being rejected by Mike if they hadn't dragged out out this story for so many seasons. It was a slow burn rejection for such a sympathetic character that grew up poor, was abandoned by their dad, bullied in school, abducted and violated in the upside down for a week, possessed by the mind player for a year, subjected to extreme torture such as the feeling of being burnt alive, abandoned by his friends when he needed them the most, subjected to deep depression because of his sexuality, and given the world's worst bowl cut known to man on top of it. They put this character through all of this and made him visibly yearn for his best friend, who was initially one of the few people in his life who didn't abandon him until he eventually did. Despite his best friend neglecting him, he took a painting he poured his love into and claimed it came from Mike's girlfriend to save his friend's straight relationship. Will, despite all his trauma, was the most selfless character. This is not a character who should have been rejected and denied love. If they made the rejection a one season storyline and then gave Will an actual love interest, than that would have been fine. Instead, they put him through so much pain for five seasons steaight, and then tried to sell it as a brief crush that he should get over at the very end. Seeing Will given an epilogue boyfriend as he is forced to live far away from his friends who he deeply feared would abandon him once he came out was really tough to watch. I dont buy that Will had a happy ending, which is the one thing I wanted for the character. It was great that he got powers and found self acceptance, but this was a character that deserved so much more given the pain they were subjected to.
“Sometimes people need someone to believe in them. And then they can do amazing things.”
he recognized the sound of your breathing through a WALKIE TALKIE. sweetheart that's not your tammy, that's the love of your life.
I'm... so confused?
What was the purpose of the scene about queer signals, if Will was never going to receive queer signals? Why was the question concerned with the obviousness of signals, and not the mere presence of them? Why use the term "shared looks" when that was a known call and response on set for Noah and Finn?
What was the meaning of the snowball and avalanche metaphor? Why include that scene at all? Where was the payoff?
You're going to write an entire meta scene on queer signals of attraction, include examples that we have already observed, indicate an eventual pay off... and not let it pay off? Why? To be malicious?
You tell the audience through Will that Mike was just his Tammy this entire time and expect us to believe it? Was Tammy in Robin's video tape? Did Robin know Tammy since she was five? Did Tammy run after her in the rain or recognize her breathing over the radio?
And Will Byers never got kissed. Will Byers witnessed queer love, queer joy, and queer intimacy through a kiss at the beginning of the season, wanting that for himself because he's a romantic... and never even got kissed. Not even by his epilogue boyfriend.
I’m sorry but the comments are taking me tf out I can’t-
Do you want to be friends?

I need to scream into the void about this scene from ACFS! It’s one of my favorite scenes from any media ever. Both of the boys are just fantastic in this episode, but DS/Hutch really shines here. There's an air of calm he projects that tells a much different story than his expressions. His voice is steady and soothing as he holds his friend through what has to be terrible pain and watches their backs as Starsky clings to him.
His face and eyes, however, tell a totally different story than his voice. In reality, he's barely holding it together. There's even a brief moment, that's very difficult to catch in a screencap, where tears well up in his eyes and he has to quickly blink them away.
By the time he gets Starsky to his feet, the tears and expression of devastation are gone and replaced with his best impression of casual concern. He even subtly takes his friend's pulse under the pretense of a comforting, steadying touch on his wrist. Starsky sees through it, of course, and makes a joke. As always, even when he's on death's door, he does everything he can to protect his partner.
It's a brilliant and poignant scene. This show doesn't get nearly enough credit. Very few actors can stir up such real emotions in me. I can feel what they're feeling. I can hear what they're thinking. I keep coming back to them again and again because of it.
Facing death is nothing at all — when you know death has no chance against the person who is going to take care of your life!
The man who loves you like no one ever has will save you, protect you, and never let go no matter what– and you know it!
He’s sexy and we know it!
Checking his surroundings– Letting the door hit the fence– Watching out for warning signs — Handling his gun– And HANDLING HIS GUN!
Delicately sensually sexy!
