Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
Happy feast of the Immaculate Conception!!
Mary being treated as if she was sinless makes me so so sad. Like talk about erasing the wonder and glory of Jesus’ birth
I feel like people treating Mary as sinless kind of destroys the point. Like she was a normal person, just as sinful as the rest of us, but she submitted herself completely to God's will. Making her some sort of sinless deity is...not right imo
Bingo
....submitted herself completely to God's will i.e. by choosing not to sin.
Why does Mary being sinless make Jesus less special? Mary isn't deified by being created without sin. Adam and Eve were created without sin.
Jesus is free from sin because He is God, he's incapable of sin. Or sin is incompatible with Him, by nature.
Mary is free from sin because she chose not to sin. She was freed from original sin like the rest of us, by Christ's sacrifice. Submitting yourself completely to God's will necessarily means being sinless, because it is not God's will for you to sin. One of the definitions of sin is going against God's will.
The point of the Incarnation wasn't that Christ was sinless, it's that he was God. The point of Christ's sacrifice was because he was sinless, but in the way that only God is.
The point of the Immaculate Conception that God holds the ultimate power over sin and forgiveness, and that He loves the world enough to justify us to Him at the price of His Son, and the first fruit of that was His own Mother.
Any grace preferred to Mary or anyone for that matter only exist to magnify God. It can't undermine His power because it's source is Him.
If anyone tries to pull that “Jesus was born sometime in Spring, not December” stuff with you
Remind them that St. Elizabeth conceived St. John the Baptist on Yom Kippur, which is set sometime in late September, early October. When Mary went to visit Elizabeth after first conceiving Jesus, Elizabeth was 6 months pregnant. Doing the math, Elizabeth’s 6 month mark and thus Jesus’ conception mark is in late March, which is 9 months from December. His conception was what was in Spring, Christians have always held conception as the beginning of life and thus Jesus’ conception is noted as the beginning of His life on earth (which is where I assume the confusion comes from), but His birth was still in December.
The Jews believed the beginning of the world was on Nissan 14th on the Jewish calendar. As Jesus was the beginning of the new world, early Christians therefore believed his conception (and thus the feast of the Annunciation) to be on Nissan 14th, which roughly translates to March 25th.
I.e., exactly 9 months before Christmas Day.
We have to define this word as something that absolves the group I like of any guilt and lays it all on Western Europeans.
Russia and China get some too I hope.
Next up, we cover all the ways that being enslaved by the ottomans wasn't real slavery for one reason or another that still ignores the fact that the people were still considered property.
I imagine they'll come up with something. Probably something along the lines of insisting the slaves had some kind of cultural rank and thus it's not the same as chattel slavery. Which is an excuse I've seen for African slavery. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they applied it to the Ottoman Empire.
pretty sure i've seen someone argue that the slaves kept by muslims (which, mind you, there still are to this day) aren't really slaves over some semantics.
That is explicitly what we learned in AP World History back in Highschool. They only talked about the Janissaries (briefly) and glossed over the part where they were captured or forcibly removed from their parents in conquered parts of Europe, forcibly circumcised and converted, and said it was actually good for them because it allowed them to have some learning in Ottoman society, so it wasn't "technically" slavery. And no other forms of Ottoman Slavery were mentioned.
Happy All Saints Day!
I'm actually a fan of the versions of Daredevil and Nightcrawler in my head who are orthodox Catholics who don't sleep around and go to Mass every Sunday.
So… he’s a cringe boomer that can’t handle the fact he accidentally made a story about hope. Lol, lmao even
Laudare, Benedicere, Predicare...

Happy Ostara everyone!!
Reminder that Easter is actually a pagan holiday that was appropriated by Christianity. Just like Christmas.
Reminder that this is literally a hypothesis made by 19th century scholar Jacob Grimm, who no credible historian takes seriously anymore. Easter, the Christian holiday, was celebrated more or less universally by Christians before the year 325 - we know that because the Council of Nicaea debated how the date of Easter would be observed. You'll also note that the name of this holiday in non-Germanic languages is typically the same word (or words derived from the same root) used to describe the Jewish Passover. In Spanish, both are Pascua; in Romanian, Passover is Paştele and Easter is Paști; in Greek, they are both Πάσχα; in Russian, Passover is Песах and Easter is Пасха. The English "Easter" does come from Eostre, which is related to Ostara. But that is simply because after Charlemagne's conquests of the Saxons between 776-782, he gave Germanic names to the months of the Latin calendar that he imposed on his new subjects. The Christian holiday fell in the month of Ostarmanoth (Eostre's month), and eventually became identified with the month that it took place in among the Germanic languages. So while the name "Easter" may be connected to a goddess named Eostre, this relatedness involves several degrees of separation, and to claim that Easter is "actually a pagan holiday" based on its name in English is like saying the Fourth of July is "actually a holiday about Julius Caesar."

The saint for finding lost things.
I gotta say, reading about him is very humbling, born from a rich family, but became a saint for the poor.
I'm practicing him, 'cause I wanna make sure to give distinct looks with different saints.
Other movies spend so much time asking “why is there badness in the world” and Free Guy, movie of the decade, assumes from the beginning there is badness, of course, the code is stolen and corrupted into a stupid shooter game, and so it asks instead, “so why is there any good in this world?” And then it answers with “because it’s made by someone who was creating a love letter to you.”
We’re not hiding that in the tags.
new atheists deride religion as “primitive superstition” but when you hear their take on what religion is it’s clear they have the shallowest concept of it
Y'all are the ones with holy books about talking snakes and blood sacrifices, but go off I guess
see what i mean
I will start believing the day you introduce me personally to your god(s).
see what i mean
What exactly is there deeper to understand that y'all worship a genocidal maniac and that you only read one book???
see what i mean
Religion is useless. We will all die eventually and your phony gods cannot help you

Any christian resource recommendations aside from gotquestions.org and 412teens?
Hey Kiibo! Answers in Genesis seem to be pretty good for providing evidence of young earth creationism if you're interested in that. I will say that sometimes they seem to be a little...political(?) about it, making it seem like young earth creationism is a salvation issue. There's also Geeks under Grace if you want Christian perspectives on video games/Pop culture. If I remember correctly, Beneath the Tangles is also a good one for Christian perspectives on anime.
I recommend Wretched. Also Desiring God!

@the-kiibo-anon ^ More to look at too!
Highly recommend Ligonier Ministries/Renewing Your Mind, Alpha & Omega Ministries, Cultish, Revealed Apologetics, The White Horse Inn, Core Christianity, Alisa Childers, and Tim Challies. These are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
An actual victim.
Chief, imma need some evidence m, cause I know that PP is fuckin vile sometimes, what with the eugenics and all that, but this is a little too far fetched
I mean, it’s literally common knowledge that pp aids traffickers, but here, here, here, here, and here.
Here are more examples with sources included, but please be warned that what these children suffered is beyond horrific.
I’d also like to point out that studies show 52.9% of women who were victims of human trafficking had at least one forced abortion, and 30% had multiple abortions during the time of trafficking. 29.6% of human trafficking survivors in America had been taken to a Planned Parenthood. One survivor stated that she had been taken to Planned Parenthood specifically because “They didn’t ask questions”.
According to statistics, there are approximately 4.8 million people being trafficked for sex in America. An estimated 71% of all victims of human trafficking are woman and girls. If 29.6% of that 71% were taken to Planned Parenthood, that’s 1,008,768 human trafficking victims being taken there every year to enable further abuse and destroy evidence. Over a million.
For all proaborts love to scream about a 12 year old girl who was forced to go to another state to get her abortion, they’re certainly silent about these other children.
well, their last flagship “12 year old who was forced to go to another state for an abortion” case was also a case where she was only pregnant because her mother’s new illegal immigrant boyfriend was sexually abusing her (with her mother’s knowledge) and the entire reason this abortion was important enough for them to go to another state for it was because it was the only way they could get out of it without them facing charges.
now i didn’t follow this case to its conclusion so i don’t actually know if the mother or the rapist were ever charged, let alone convicted, but i do sincerely hope that they were, given that this ended up publicly accessible knowledge. or that they at the very least faced justice by way of a concerned citizen’s baseball bat to the face.
