Babysitting a toddler is a lot like being the narration in a point-and-click adventure game. Watching him knock on the doors of empty rooms and saying "hmm. I don't think anyone's in there". This is so beautiful. People found a man hundreds of years dead and didn't see a piece of history; they just saw a man, possibly murdered, who deserved the proper burial he wasn't given. God indeed knows who He was and I think He was pleased to see so much empathy and effort from His church for someone who could never thank them.

I really dislike when people lack true manners. And I’m not talking about basic things like chewing with your mouth closed or saying thank you. I’m talking about having a genuine respect for others — gracefully making space for people on the sidewalk, choosing your words thoughtfully, and lifting others up with kind compliments. It’s about allowing others to have the first share or the best seat, and being able to take a deep breath and move on from conflicts, without needing anything in return. It’s not about neglecting yourself to serve others, but knowing there’s a beautiful balance. It warms my heart whenever I feel and see it happen.

I would say chewing with your mouth closed is actually a part of that, though. Etiquette rules primarily exist to make it easy to act as if you were being considerate. Just like safety rules exist so you’ll act as if you were prudent.

One of the big problems particularly in the postwar period, but going back well before that, is people dispensing with rules and saying “oh you should just always be benevolent”. But if we have rules for our behavior, we’ll be beneficial even when we’re not benevolent, do good even when we don’t feel good. “Do as thou wilt, but keep thee to honor” only works if you’re already honorable, and you only get there by practice. Etiquette is training wheels for courtesy.

as someone with a speech impediment, all of the people saying that only one type of stuttering is valid are wrong.

stuttering CAN look like this: "t-this is a-an example s-s-sentence"

OR this: "this-this is an example sen-sentence."

OR this: "t-t-t-th-..t-ttttthis is an example sentence."

OR this: "this is, uhm, an example, uh, sentence."

OR this: "this is an example sssssss-sentence."

OR this: "this is an examp-...this an example sentence."

sometimes the sentence won't even come out of your mouth at all.

there are probably many examples i'm forgetting, but that's the point! it usually is a mix of a few of these, but some people do one of them more often than others! some people with speech impediments have certain sounds that they almost consistently have trouble with (for me it's "st").

people with speech impediments also rarely-if ever-stutter whilst they're singing or whispering.

most importantly!!!! people with speech impediments are capable of saying a sentence without stuttering!! it can just be a gamble sometimes.

and if more people could portray the frustration that comes with stuttering and not being able to get words out, i'd be a very happy girl.

(fun fact: sometimes when my mouth won't let me say what i want to say, i get so annoyed that i just yell or grumble out "WORDS.")
