The finished editorial pages!!
I am really pleased with how these turned out, it was a challenge narrowing down my photos to just 3 for each page but concisley conveying the mood worked better
My original plans for my photobook layout, I kept pretty closely to my initial ideas and order of pages but I needed to size up the photos to make them clearer so there ended up being more pages
My original plans for the Editorial layout, I had planned to use scanned textures and notes but after beginning these designs I realised I preferred to have just the photos on the page without the script as I wanted them to be the main focus
My notes from the makeup test for 'Can you hear the Choir?'
The mouth covers I made up ahead of time helped speed up the application process, however the size I made them fit myself and the other people I practiced on but I hadn't considered the size difference of a male face, and blending was different. I took note of this and sketched up some plans for the final mouth cover

I still plan on using front projection as a big part of my work, but the projector I have works by using a lens to project a phone screen, and although it can be seen with the naked eye the light is too subtle to properly show up on camera. Once I have access to a more powerful projector Iām going to redo some tests and experiments.Ā
playing around with the exposure settings, i created some cool effects. (I used an orange/brown filter)
who are the characters that inhabit my designs?
After Ross Clarkes session and feedback I realise I may have ignored the model aspect of my project a bit too much; I want the focus to be on the background and set, with the model and costume complimenting it rather than being the main attraction. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't put as much thought and meaning into it, so moving forward I'm going to add more research and development to that part of my project.
To introduce my 'sizzle reel' I wanted something that would convey some of the deeper meaning of my theme so I was not just showcasing pretty pictures, and hopefully creating the sense of a deeper meaning that the viewer can interperet. So I created a short stop motion clip that conveys a braod idea for people to interperet differently. I think with my work I want everyone to have a different interpertation from it based on how the visuals interact with their own thoughts and experiences.
All these used the same flash and colour gel, but different camera settings
The flash bar and the ring light had very different levels of light outputs; the flash bar was much brighter and washed out the colour from the ring light. Moving forward Iāll have to choose one or the other depending on what level of colour I want.
Lighting experiment
There aren't many places in my house where I was able to set up and not be disturbed/get in the way to other people; but one place where I could was the attic stairs. Originally I just wanted to use the corner of the walls, but as I was setting up I realized that because of the angle of the stairs it was going to be difficult to photograph sat on the stairs, so I incorporated more of the wall and the actual stairs into my set up so i could shoot from the open space at the bottom of the stairs
adapting my project to lockdown
I was planning on doing some smaller material and lighting tests and experiments at home over Christmas, to better inform myself before doing large scale tests in some one of the colleges studio spaces. However new lockdown restrictions meant I couldnāt return to my accommodation to access some of my equipment and materials, and college was closed.
So I made note of what I couldnāt do and focused on what I could, I had to buy some materials such as the colour gels and debated re-purchasing some of my background materials but decided against it since I already had them, Iād just have to wait to test them.
Documentary
Because my project is in the style of a fashion editorial, I decided to create a fashion magazine style for my research into ethics of model representation
