Project 2 conclusion

The stop motion film for project 2 was alot different to what i had expected. With very little knowledge on how a stop motion film was actually produced, i thought it would be easy to create... i was wrong! i think our group needed some more thorough planning of actual scenes rather than just the basic idea of the film. After we shot for our film, we realised we should have taken alot more images with smaller movements and took more time to focus the images. I think we rushed the shooting too much because a shortage of time. The final outcome is a little disappointing although you get the idea of what we were attempting!

DMF- Project 2 SYNOPSIS

We have decided to pay homage to Michael Jackson, by attempting to get our handmade chewed zombie chewies to dance to Thriller.  It will be the story of Chewy MJ with his big busted Red Girl Chewy.  They walk into a grave yard and soon find themselves being surrounded by the disturbing little googley eyed zombies.  Under the full moon and by candle light   Red Girl has her brains eaten, before MJ now arises his eyes glowing red; ready to dance with his crew to the Thriller.  Before long the sound of roaring engines flourishes to bring in the ‘Little Snots’.  These guys are ready to run over anything that moves in their hot rod 4wd… MJ is the last to get squashed to a pulp as the blood spurts out – after he has been run over of course.

very difficult to sculpt with chewed chewies.  We were going to do chewies with stuck on heads of the characters from MJ Thriller film clip but decided to sculpt the chewies without stuck on faces.

Class notes- Must remember to keep all files in one place so that Premier knows where to find them- transferring them once they’ve been used in premier means that premier won’t be able to shortcut to them.

After opening-

make sure it’s saving to the correct place

Import your pictures from folder- it is possible to organise this in premier but might also be good to organise images before entering them into Premier.

2-3 frames/second

edit-preferences-general, 1 sec 10 frames

to change the timing of many frames at a time, select multiple frames and right click- brings up the option speed/duration. Select ripple edit, shifting trailing to ensure that frames squash together correctly.

Cross dissolve fades one image to the next, click, drag and drop effect the effect on to the frame you want it to change. Transitions are editable once dropped onto the frames, length of time that they run can be changed

If you want sound from a youtube video and not the video, import the MP4 file into premier, and then hide the video layer, keeping only the sound. Sound file can be cut and edited.

You can import a video and export frames from within it for use in stop motion video

to create title go to Title menu- new title (roll, still crawl) and where you can play with different types of text to create your title and credits.

PAL: 25 frames per second.

720 x 576 pixels: 4:3. Standard Australian television screen resolution. (72 dpi)

1920 x 1080 pixels: 16:9. Widescreen. (72 dpi)

Premiere Notes:

By default, Premiere will make each image run for 5 seconds.

Videos can be played back slower or faster using different framerate.

Whatever framerate you choose to work with, you must continue to use the whole video.

Consider the framerate of what devices use as standard. Television will be different to YouTube.

Important: whatever location you save your work to, Premiere will continue to save/draw files from.

Remember to reset your Still Image Default Duration each time you use Premeiere before importing images. Once you have changed it, you must quit and re-launch the program for these changes to take effect.

Export Frame tool: very useful for making frames from videos for hard-to-shoot scenes.

Saving/Exporting:

File -> Export media -> Media.

Format: H.264 (internet video quality)

Presets - will vary depending on what you want the video to be for.

Basic rundown: Adobe Premier.

Non-linear video making.

Can have multiple layers of video, images, audio, filters etc.

Can save videos in multiple formats/resolutions.

Next week: software demonstration.

Consider differences between video file types. (avi, rar, mp4.. etc)

Size matters! Consider the size/resolution of your videos.

Project 2: Short film.

In groups, begin planning a short video - must include a clear narrative and the theme of chewing gum.

Between 1-3 minutes long.

Needs to be stop-motion. Could be plasticine, drawings, photographs, models… etc.

“Guy Walks Across America” - fantastic example of photography stop-motion, also behind-the-scenes.

Have fun! Engage with the idea, but enjoy yourselves.

Be mindful of the timeframe you have.

Write an 150 word synopsis of your story.

Discuss what materials you will need, and the processes of making the film. (camera movements, lighting, backdrop, picture quality)

Storyboards - for each shot: shot type and movement, basic sketch/description, dialogue/sound/music.

Write an evaluation on your project, and working with your group. What worked, what was fun, how you did it, what you would change.

Don’t blast your group on tumblr if things went bad.

Project 1 conclusion

The process of making GIF's in project one was new to me as i had never mader a GIF before. I quickly found that it was very easy for me to pick up as i am pretty familiar with Adobe Photoshop. Although i used processes that i was familiar with, i learnt some new things such as the animation tools within photoshop and about online GIF genorators. Im pretty happy with my 2 finals GIF's. Although i struggled to come up with ideas for the both of them, i was able to complete them quite quickly and easily. If i was to do this project again i would like to play around with more hand drawn stuff because i like the effect of things appearing as if they were being drawn as i tried to create in the self portrait GIF.

This is the image that gave me inspiration to appropriate the jaws cover for project1. before i saw this i was absolutley stumped. i spent about the same amount of time completing my GIF as i did trying to think of something to do!

To create the jpg's for my meme GIF, i first got the original image of the jaws film cover and got rid of the text in the corner usuing the stamp tool. i then traced the girl using the lasso tool and put her on a new layer. i then also got rid of the girl on the original image usuing the stamp tool. Next i duplicated the background layer and erased everything except the bottom jaw of the shark so i could place and move a tongue underneath it on seperate frames. next i traced and copied the arm and leg of the girl onto sepearte layers and erased each so that i could paste and arm and a leg on every second frame to make it look as though she was swimming. the last thing i had to do was add eyes with a pupil following the girl on each frame and save each frame as a jpeg image and upload to an online GIF generator. as you can see in the last screenshot the girl, eyes and tongue go from left to right on ten different layers/frames.

This is my final for the meme GIF in project 1. an animated appropriation of the cover image from the film, Jaws. i animated the girl at the top, to swim accross above the shark with the eyes and tongue of the shark following. I found the GIF quite easy to create because i am familiar with photoshop. although this actually took me quite a while to create  because i kept going back and adding/changing things such as the arms, legs and tongue moving which meant i had to save a lot of jpg's! the GIF was created with makeagif.com/, it is 10 frames and 1000 x 763 pixels.

my third GIF trial.. this was going to be my final but greg thought i could still add something extra! i also changed the womans arm and leg in every second frame to make it look like she was actually swimming which looks alot better! also this time i used makeagif.com which played the frames much smoother.

This was my second trial for the meme GIF this time using gifninja.com.. i have now made 10 frames of the girl swimming with the eyes following, but im having some trouble making it flow with gifninja for some reason so i will try another gif genorator.

this was my first trial GIF made using gickr.com the idea is to have the girl on the jaws cover swimming accross the water with the sharks eyes following her. still need to add extra frames and speed it up!
