We are delighted to formally launch Pencils in the Margin!
Pencils in the Margin is connecting artists, writers and other creators with the aid organisations working on the ground on behalf of detainees – from humanitarian shelters to pro-bono migrant law services, human rights initiatives, and people working tirelessly to reunite families separated at the border.
You donate your money, we donate our time. Simply follow direct links from our curated list of charities and send your donation receipts to the artists who have ‘adopted’ those organisations for rewards in your inbox.
The more you give, the more you get!
To sign up to offer incentives as part of the project, leave your details here.
Share, share, share, give money, get art, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, suggestions, or want to be involved!
Thank you tumblr!

Bungou Stray Dogs Fandom
Art is for everyone. The process and experience differs for each person, and it’s those experiences that helps them find the style to express themselves in. Support content creators, don’t go anonymous when you send them love. Burst into their inbox with the entirety of your account and tell them they’re going a good job. It may seem like a small phrase, but it means EVERYTHING for all the time and effort and emotions they put into their works!
Reblog this and tag your friends and favorite content creators! Anyone can repeat anybody. It doesn’t matter if you chat with each other or not.
Show them how much they mean to you and love what they say and what they do!

Thank you guys for sharing content with us. Every artist, fic writer and translator is valuable and you are all very much loved. Given that recently we’ve seen some people going through tough times because of people being rude we just want to let you know how much you are valued for everything you do. While there are plenty of people that can send negative things on anon we just wanted to show you that you aren’t alone and you have a community that loves and supports you. And special thanks to Zeshan for taking the idea and kicking it off.
It’s almost time for my hiatus, so have some angst based on THIS AU uwu
people here will be like “be gay do crime” and still think piracy is bad
Honestly i say it depends on the scale. Pirating an indie game? Bad. Stealing art from an independent artist? Very bad. Gonna illegally download Game of Thrones? You have bad taste in tv, but hbo will live. Want to hold Mickey Mouse ransom until Disney pays up? Morally you’ve committed no sin
@spanish speakers te amo feels weird to say??????
TE AMO! IS TOO! INTIMATE!! maybe if you say it quickly and in a jokey way its ok but in a serious talk??? it feels too much!!!!!!!
“i love you” is NOTHING compared to te amo. i love you feels like a kiss on the check and te amo feels like fucking marriage.
#I have like a whole thing on saying te amo to anyone
YEA. i had a relationship with someone and she dropped the “te amo” super quicky and i was like…………”thats ok, thank you, but im gonna be honest w you….i’m not saying te amo until i really feel it” thats how serious it is.
te amo IS very serious, very deep, very intimate. when you want to tell someone that you love them without it being massive, the term you want is te quiero
cant believe no one had contributed this
Accuarte AF.
“Te quiero” is the best alternative so we all do not succumb into a “te amo” anxiety.
Since we’re including other languages, any tips for Japanese learners?
Your friendly neighborhood bilingual here to help you out @just-fic-me-up
So idk if you can read hiragana so I’ll just use English letters. There are 4 ways to say you care about somebody in Japanese with increasing degrees of intimacy. Suki is like “I like sushi” type loose feeling. Also used for crushes or “I’d like to ask that person out.” Daisuki is literally “like a lot” and is used for “I love sushi” or “I really like this person” but tends to get translated as “I love you” which is pretty correct. Couples use it for each other
Next up is aishiteru and that’s. Hoo. Boy howdy. That’s te amo levels of intimate. You say that like before you propose, when you’re married, etc. It’s more like “I’m in love with you” and it’s very special. You won’t ever hear this used outside of very private moments between irl couples. I haven’t even seen it used in fiction honestly. And then there’s the big dog
The K word as my wife and I call it. He’s half Japanese and he has never said this to me despite us being literally married and we started dating my senior year of hs which was six and a half years ago. I’ve used this with him MAYBE thrice IF that often. I’ve never seen or heard it used literally ever is how special and intimate this phrase is. Not to totally and completely undersell this but it’s like a “once in a lifetime, the only person who could ever hold my heart” kind of intimate expression of love. It’s whispered on your deathbed to your lover of 65 years special. It’s koishiteru and you DO NOT use that word lightly if ever. It ties your soul directly to someone else’s with just a few sounds
But those are the tiers in Japanese. Go forth my friend and wield your newfound knowledge wisely
Im realizing how limited english is with only one word to cover all of that. No wonder its such an awkward language for translations!

A new dawn arises!
He would venture into unknown lands to find a place he can call home, as simple and as peaceful as that. Or so Atsushi thought, until he unknowingly forms a party of renegades who bears scars that could only be healed by one thing: change. But not the kind of change that’s in the pockets of a certain king, or an ominous change that a hidden necromancer is brewing…
Hiraeth
A homesickness for a home you can’t return to, or that never was.

A Grimoire of Light. Full of warmth and happiness, of smiles and laughter.
Whenever Odasaku opens it, his magic comes to life in the form of little creatures: fawns, ducklings, butterflies, kittens, occasionally a baby furred whelp from the North. They are warm to the touch, soft, almost like dandelions before they scatter into the wind. The children will smile. Dazai would feel warm.
But now, as he carefully lays the book down on the lush grass before Odasaku’s grave, the book feels cold and heavy. He could feel- hear the thrumming of magic even through the leather bag, high-pitched and mellow, a music for the Light mages. But to him, he who had cursed and destroyed with the dark arts, it’s nothing more than a metal grating noise.
And of all people… why him?
“Odasaku, you know I can’t take this,” He whispers. But by some unknown force, he’s already undoing the metal clasp on the bag and bringing out the book, “And even if I do…”
He gives a dry laugh. Had Odasaku expected him to use it? There’s definitely no way. A Grimoire writes itself by the spells the holder uses.
The Dark Arts does not need a Grimoire.
“Really Odasaku, you have too much faith in me,” in someone like me.
He stares at the closed book of rich red and gold embossed markings. If he focused enough, he knows he can feel it- the warmth and thrumming of the songs of the Light. Maybe, just maybe, he’s in the wrong this time.
“But you know it won’t hurt to… try?”
He was wrong, he was so wrong.
His hand freezes the moment the book opens, and his eyes widen. From the corner of the page, a black shadow slowly creeps up like the ashes trailing after a fire, consuming the umber-inked words and symbols. It fades as it reaches the middle.
Dazai feels his heart ache.
“Odasaku… I cant…”
In the Netherlands, abortion is legal. There is however one pro life organization called Stichting Schreeuw Om Leven. But instead of harrassing women who are on their way to the abortion clinic and make them feel miserable, they offer them HELP.
If a woman wants to get an abortion because she is financially unable to give birth to and raise a baby, the organization will pay for everything she needs during the pregnancy and after, until she’s financially stable to raise the baby on her own.
This organization won’t stop women from going to the abortion clinic, but would rather hve a healthy conversation with them. Ask them if they can help her with anything in order for them to keep the baby. They also hand out contraception in the streets for those who can’t afford it.
Women don’t get abortions just because they want to. There are reasons why. This organization doesn’t fight abortion, it fights the reasons why women get abortions. Take notes America.
America doesn’t WANT to take notes. Anti-abortion in America isn’t about actually preventing abortions it’s about controlling women. That’s it. That’s all it is.

One of my students wrote a very eloquent and well-researched paper for her english class about the unfair advantages and lack of accountability given to student athletes, and she specifically called out how much worse it is with football and basketball, and bruh. People are getting heated over this shit. She spoke nothing but the truth, and the football and basketball teams are PISSED — coaching staff included. Like she legit created a little controversy at our school by calling out the fact that athletics are prioritized over academics. WITH SOURCES.
And what’s funny is she played it smart — not only by giving herself some plausible deniability by writing it about high schools and colleges in general rather than just about our school, but also by calling out the worst sports specifically. She could have left it at ALL student athletes, but by explicitly stating that football and basketball are the worst perpetrators, she won all the other athletes to her side — golf, tennis, swimming, track. Instead of having all student athletes at her throat, she turned everyone against the basketball and football teams.
I’m so proud of her. Nobody listens to teachers when we bring up that half the football team is failing all their classes, but let a fellow student bring it up and everyone’s ready to riot.
