Osric,
I know you don’t like making a big deal about your birthday, but you don’t have a choice, so there.
I’ve known you for about 4 years now (I think? It’s a long time), and you were the first person who said to me, “Hey, do you want to work together and do a photoshoot?” I was so scared that first time; the truth is I’m scared before every photoshoot even now. But you refuse to let me talk myself out of it, and you refuse to let me plan everything down to the smallest detail. You have taught me so much; that I can do more than I think I can, that I don’t have to have everything figured out, that one good photo out of 20 bad ones is still good, how to do The Hero Stance, that what other people think doesn’t matter. I may not show it, but I do listen and take it all in.
See, you love reading stories or watching shows about people who overcome great obstacles and do extraordinary things but the truth is that’s you. It’s always been you. You don’t need a great quest to conquer to be brave in this life. You just have to be resolutely yourself. And you don’t see yourself, or your life, or the world in terms of limitations or boundaries or borders. You only see potential and opportunity. You see it in other people too, and it’s the reason why people gravitate to you. Because even if we don’t think we can do anything, you don’t see why not.
And yes, you can also be so frustrating, and terrible at answering emails, and your memory is atrocious and you always have to have the last word and you like nothing better than to argue. But you’re also brave, and bold, and smart, and kind and you’re one of the most interesting people I know. I am endlessly grateful for you.
So @osrictumbles I hope you have an amazing day, an amazing month, an amazing year. Because the truth is I don’t think you’d settle for anything else and that’s what makes you you.
