They’re Back

Liam was half asleep in the hospital bed, he’d been pretty banged up after his run in with Kate Argent and the Nogitsune. It was an ambush while he was out with Colin. Honestly Liam barely saw it coming but he was healing now, resting. He knew he’d better by tomorrow but, there was a few broken bones to heal. 

He groaned a bit, sitting up as he heard someone come in. “Hey…” he said looking at them. 

Jennifer played the ‘concerned teacher’ card and easily talked her way past the receptionist, getting the location of Liam’s room. They’d barely recovered from the Fae’s assault and now this, out of the blue? She didn’t like it one bit. And she needed information. Information she hoped Liam and Colin would be able to supply.

She entered the room and gave the injured boy a small smile, “Mr. Dunbar, are you alright?” she asked, “Can you tell me what happened?” And straight to business.

“My Banshee senses have been on edge, which has me incredibly worried.” Lydia replied, knowing that she has been on edge for the last couple of days. She just hoped that they would be able to stop anyone from getting hurt and get rid of this latest enemy. “Unfortunately it’s quite rare to be proven wrong about this sort of thing here.” She added, wishing that just once things would do their way. “I know that Liam is slowly healing, but I don’t really know about Colin.”

“And hearing that you’re worried only confirmed my suspicions.” The perceptive powers of a Banshee were not to be taken lightly. Between this, the attack on the boys and the stations demise she knew they had new troubles to deal with. “Almost impossible I’d say. Be on your guard, this is probably the beginning of the next set of battles.” God knew who, or what, they faced this time. “I see, I’ll check in on them after school. And have you heard from Jordan at all?”

Ethan shot a smirk in her direction. “Titan’s just good; and I’m a lot stronger than I was before.” He responded simply. She wasn’t calling him out yet, so that was a good sign. “Besides, we weren’t truly a pair. We had Victor there–you know he’s never far from either of us.” He said with a shrug and roll of his eyes. “What? I didn’t know about Liam and Colin; but I ran into Parrish mourning the sheriff’s station.” He said. “I’ll go check on Liam and his boy-toy later.” He added. 

Jennifer gazed at her, her look intense as though she was were convinced he was holding back, which she was. “Uh huh.” she leaned back at the mention of Victor, “That little chaos-maker actually did something?” she asked, “Wonders never cease.” Though she didn’t for a second believe this made the fox an ally. She sighed, “They were attacked, they’re going to recover fine, I’m more concerned about what attacked them. I need to visit them after school. As for Jordan, I don’t even know where to begin on that one.”

“I don’t want to get revenge,” Luka said. “I want justice. Like those crime shows,” Luka said. A hint of a smile came across his face as he remembered an old pack mate comparing him to that superhero, Daredevil.

“Alright Batman, settle down.” she said, an eyebrow rising at his words, “Justice under many guises is the same as revenge.” she remembered her words to Derek in the elevator all that time ago, how she’d justified herself perfectly. To this day she knew she wasn’t wrong.

Isaac rolled his eyes as he waked up, hearing the teachers comment, “Because we live in Beacon Hills.” he pointed out, “Personally, I think I’m back on board with the idea that we should all change out names and move to Iceland. I hear it’s nice there.”

Jennifer huffed, though it may have been half a laugh. “Worrying when the name of our home is enough to justify our problems.” she deadpanned, “I’d rather move to Wales if it’s all the same to you. Ancestral home of the druids and lovely mountains so I’ve heard.”

Kate eyes the woman and smirked. “And if isn’t the woman who took a page out of my book and slept with a werewolf to get to his family. I know who you are.” She said, crossing her arms. “Trying to be a good guy now, little darach?” She said, amusement in her voice. “Come now, isnt it dull living up to the expectations of a some kids who wpuldnlet one of their own die? And besides, isn’t your power fairly weaker without the supply of human sacrifices?”

Jennifer’s eyes narrowed and her voice, while quiet was deadly, “Be very careful what you say to me Ms Argent. Unlike several other people here I have no qualms in killing you.” People like Scott and his pack may be all for second chances, but Jennifer was more fond of killing before she was killed. The product of experience. “Not good, nor bad. Balanced. Something I doubt you could comprehend.”  she smirked, “Please don’t tell me this is the beginning of some ‘come to the dark side’ speech?” she concentrated for a moment and a slight wind whipped around her ankles, “Funny thing about Fae, they make wonderful magical sacrifices. I’ve more than enough power stored up.”

Stiles gave a small smile. “Maybe it is something we need. To be a little more human.” He nodded a little, laughing. “Yes, they are.” He assured her.

“Or at least something we should aim to be.” she said with a nod, “As prevalent as it in our lives we don’t exist purely for supernatural problems.” Though more often than not it felt that way.

Lydia knew that Ms Blake was going to have a lot to say when it came to the Fae being gone and everything else. She turned the corner and then headed towards the familiar classroom. As she entered the room she heard the older women speak. “Because there is always a whole lot of crap coming this way.” Lydia replied walking towards her and leaning against a nearby desk. “I’ve learned that there rarely isn’t something in the shadows trying to harm us.”

“And if that isn’t the saddest piece of news to come baring.” she sighed, “You know, I knew something was going to happen. I bloody knew it. I just wanted to be proved wrong.” Seemed her damnable experience worked in her favour though, she’d kept the power she amassed over their previous trials. “Have you heard anything from Mr. Dunbar or Mr. Wallace?” she asked, “I plan on visiting them after school.”

Noel chuckled at Jennifer’s words and shook his head. “Probably because we’re just about done with the old crap. So now’s the perfect time to have some new and improve crap. Next thing you know, Beacon Hills is going to look like a Terminator movie.” At the rate this town was attracting danger, it was a surprise it was still standing at all. 

Jennifer heaved a great sign, resting her head against her fingers and turning to face the boy. “Noel, right? I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced.” A pre-fae attack gathering was hardly the place for exchanging pleasantries. “I always hated those movies, I preferred Alien for my sci-fi fix.” Honestly she would not be surprised if an acid-saliva alien was the cause of their next batch of problems.

Ethan carefully approached the woman’s classroom and leaned against the door frame. He hadn’t spoken to her in quite a while, honestly, and after the fight he wanted to make sure she was okay–and just whether or not Victor might have had a big mouth about his transformation. He knew he still needed to talk to Titan about it, but he’d do that on his own time. “Because this is Beacon Hills. Goddamn Beacon Hills…” He said with a heavy sigh.

Jennifer turned and rose an eyebrow at him. “Yes. And speaking of Beacon Hills, how did just you and Titan manage against a horde of Fae attackers?” she asked, honestly curious. After all, she still had trouble believing Aleski and Derek managed as a pair. “I had my doubts teams of two could manage such a feat.” she paused for a moment and a sigh escaped. “Liam and Colin are in the hospital, and I haven’t had time to check in on Jordan. Have you seen any of them?”

Aleksi collapse back against his pillows at her words, “And everyone’s okay?” he asked, just to be sure, though he thought she wouldn’t be so happy if they weren’t. “I’m so glad she’s safe now. I was … I was so scared something was going to happen  to her.” he admitted. 

“Yes,” she chuckled slightly at his reaction, “Yes, everyone’s fine.” she told him, “You see? It a balance. And it always rights itself in the end.” She was sceptical of it lasting but didn’t want to ruin the moment, “Well stop all your worrying. She’s safe, you’re safe and just in time for exams to start.” she added wryly.

Luka took a deep breath to calm himself. He was moments away from getting angry enough to shift. Once he was calmer, he leaned back and sighed. “I’m curious. I don’t know what I’ll do once I find out who did it. Over here in America, you guys have that phrase: curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. Ms. Blake, I don’t want to be a dead cat.”

Jennifer rolled her eyes, word play aside it was a dangerous satisfaction he was looking for. “Well Luka, speaking as someone who’s been to the other side of that particular litter box, the cat could just walk on by. It isn’t easy but believe me, grief and revenge are no things to get drunk on.” And she worried this killing only heralded more bad news.

So, the sheriff’s office was gone, two people were in hospital and there was a new teacher in school. Great. Jennifer didn’t trust any of it. Why? Couldn’t they have a single month of uninterrupted peace? The Fae’s handprint was still on the metaphorical town’s doorstep! She signed and rubbed her temples slightly, leaning back in her chair in a, thankfully, empty classroom. 

“Why do I get the feeling a whole new load of crap is coming our way?” she asked, not really expecting an answer.

“Well, if it isn’t the only woman around most folks here hate more than me.” she deadpanned, “What the hell are you doing here, Ms Argent?”

Aleksi blinked as he slowly woke up, honestly he was still exhausted, but the memories that were flooding back through his mind meant he certainly couldn’t go back to sleep. He sat up carefully, looking around until he spotted someone. “What happened? Did it really work? They’re gone?” he asked, needing confirmation that it hadn’t all gone wrong again once he had passed out.

Jennifer looked over the top of her magazine when Aleksi came too, she smiled and folded it away before heading over, “The light shone through, it worked, they’re gone.” she answered simply, “Something of a relief hmm?” she asked with a chuckle, “I’d wager you have a little sister who’ll be chomping at the bit to see you.” she told him, “And now you two of you have nothing to worry about.”

“Legends?” Now that definitely caught the boy’s attention considering he was double majoring and one of those majors was mythology. “Hopefully the library has all kinds of book about the history then.” Clayton said with an excited grin. 

“Yea.” she nodded, “About all sorts of things really. Beacon has quite the history.” Not the nicest one either. “Oh it does, a whole section. Just don’t take it all to heart, no one embellishes history quite like an author trying to sell a book.” she told him.

His untouched hand made a fist and he banged it on the table. He let out a frustrated stream of words in Russian, then he paused to catch his breath. “I will find who did this.”

Jennifer signed, she knew exactly what revenge brought, “Luka, don’t throw anything away chasing this. Revenge doesn’t make things better. Trust me I know.” she’d gotten hers in the end, and it still hadn’t helped.
