“Please, I’ll be jumping ship as soon as I can.” Was that a joke? She wasn’t sure.
marymacdonaldhadafarm:
“Anything for you,” she teased, eyes closed, smiling into the sun.

“This wedding’s gone off so well I might just have another. All mistakes can be fixed,” she joked.Â
.
“I think we should have it by the beach.”
dickdowndearborn:
“No, we have to do what we can to avoid that the best we can. Imagine her having to share a name with either of our dads.” It was a fate worse than death.
.
“Should we start calling you Dick Macdonald?”
dickdowndearborn:
“Don’t worry, she’s keeping the last name Macdonald.”
.
“Oh thank fuck. You can’t give her the Dearborn curse.”
WHEN: 20 February 1980 WHERE: Fritwell Farm WHO: @darcydearbornÂ
“Well if I’d known there was another Dearborn on the market I might’ve met you at the end of the aisle instead,” Mary bumped her shoulder against Darcy’s. It occurred to her then that technically, they were family now. Not that Mary hadn’t already considered it so.
“It’s okay, we all make mistakes.”
dickdowndearborn:
“How’d you like my choice of a wife?” He already knew the answer. Darcy practically loved Mary more than him. Well, no, she absolutely did love Mary more than him. Who could blame her?
.
“Well, you’re definitely punching.”
“Really, though,” Darcy offered him a moment of sincerity. “I’m happy for the two of you.”
dickdowndearborn:
“That’s because you’re a brat who has completely wiped away any nice happy memories with me.”
.
Darcy wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of saying that the majority of her memories with him were nice happy ones, so instead she lightly hit him in the arm. “I can’t believe you’re married.”
dickdowndearborn:
“I don’t always cry. You’re making that up.” He definitely cried more than the average man, which was a fact he was proud of. Mostly, he was just happy Darcy was there. She was just about the only family he cared about these days, and it meant a lot that she was showing her support.
.
“You sure? Because I don’t think I have a single memory of you where you’re not crying.”

Doc was a mess. Anyone who could even take one look at his face would’ve seen that it was half tears. There was no denying to anyone that he was perhaps a little over emotional given the circumstances, but deny it he would, with red eyes, and a bright, freshly kissed and married smile. “I didn’t cry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He was still crying.
“You look like you cried, though.” It was the worst attempt at deflection that had ever been attempted by mankind, and Doc didn’t give a damn. This was what life was supposed to be. Exciting. Challenging. And never, ever boring.
“Of course you cried. You always cry.” But Darcy’s tone was a lot softer than it normally was when insulting her cousin.

darcydearborn:
“Maybe.” Darcy couldn’t imagine ever wanting to know, but her mum had always been softer than she was. Sentimental, too. “Go on, tell me all the stuff that dumb T.V. show didn’t air.”
.
“You know, the telly showed almost all of it, I mean, there were cameras everywhere. Every time I went to go to the loo I was searching around to try and see if they were trying to get close ups of me in there, too.”
Darcy scrunched up her nose in disgust. “I’m trying to eat.”
~~~ fin ~~~
dickdowndearborn:
“Maybe she got curious.” Doc reasoned that eventually, no matter how badly things fell apart, humans had a habit of never leaving well enough alone. They picked at things until they bled, and then questioned why they were bleeding at all.
.
“Maybe.” Darcy couldn’t imagine ever wanting to know, but her mum had always been softer than she was. Sentimental, too. “Go on, tell me all the stuff that dumb T.V. show didn’t air.”
marymacdonaldhadafarm:
“Don’t you think he’ll, I don’t know, come after me!?” She had just trapped him in a beach blanket, after all. Still, Mary sucked in a deep breath, closed her eyes (in case the seagull decided to peck them out in retaliation) and opened the blanket to let him fly out which he did immediately and swiftly. “Wow,” Mary said, opening one eye first and then the other to watch him join his flock. “That was invigorating.” It lasted all of one second, and then she was scrambling out of her sand enclosure. “What should we do next?”
~ Le Fin ~
dickdowndearborn:
“No. They were all huddled up together. I figured I’d better go in and then out as quickly as possible before anyone tried to corner me.”
.
“I just --” she angrily stabbed at her food. “I don’t get why she would want to see him.” In her eyes, he’d left them and that was that.
marymacdonaldhadafarm:
There was no hesitation this time. As soon as Mary heard the beginnings of the word she was springing into action, arms windmilling up to catch the seagull in the beach towel. For a moment, she couldn’t believe she’d done it. In her arms, under the blanket, a bird hopped and hopped. Mary let out, first, a shocked squeal as if she immediately regretted it. It quickly faded into laughter. “We did it. Sweet baby hippogriffs! We did it. I caught a seagull!” She yelped again as it jumped beneath the covering. “What do I do now!?” Mary hadn’t thought the plan out that far yet. In fairness, she hadn’t thought they’d make it to this stage.
.
“Fucking -- holy shit.” She was laughing, looking on in mixed awe and horror. “I don’t know! Let it go?”
dorcasisntdeadyet:
“It’s perfect.” Dorcas beamed; were she more sober, she might have realised this was why she hadn’t travelled much. “There’s dolphins, sometimes.”
.
She perked up at that. “What about whales?”
