we were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.
as an archivist I am begging you
put dates on everything
donāt believe digital stuff is preserved forever - if itās really important (documents, photos, etc) print it out
name your files accurately I know it sucks but please
donāt destroy the original just bc you scanned it
rubber cement is the devilās adhesive use photo corners and quit gluing shit
you will NOT remember write it down
if you staple things to the inside of a folder I will find you
your public library probably has equipment to digitize old media for free or can at least get you connected with somewhere that does!
If you see more worms than usual on your way to work, start stocking up on fire extinguishers.
Always check your collegues against old photos you have of them - better safe than sorry.
If you physically cannot quit your job, i am sorry (at least you get to kill your boss though).

What's wrong with the name Fairy? When she was younger, I called her Little Fairy, but I can't call her like that when she's grown, can I?
Aaaa I love modern mdzs!!! Jin ling, my favourite š you can't convince me he's not the best character
A poem of grief, inspired by Catullus' poem 101
Time passed oh so slowly, yet oh so quick,
As it felt like a year in a month, then two months in a year, and now 3 months, in almost two years
You, father, were no blessing, no angel, and no wicked curse.
Hard to describe, you were, what gender, what pronoun, what name and what of your soul?
Thus, I miss you, I miss the good memories and I regret the times I refused to support you,
Now I have matured, and I promise myself with resolve and resilience and I will work hard to complete what you couldn't,
To graduate what you could not, to go where you could afford not, to find comfort where you were.
And forever, father, and farewell
"Atque in perpetuum, frater, ave atque vale"
(final line of Catullus 101, multas per gentes...)
I'm sorry but this may genuinely be one of the funniest footnotes I've ever read From Euripides' Electra. Yes... The quote is about Agamemnon...
I love anything to do with the oresteia and when people throw shade at Agamemnon, makes me giggle lmao
Finally completely Stephen Fry's Odyssey;
Book review!
So overall, an 8/10
It's a long read but Fry's use of versatle vocabulary combined with his many additions and asterixes(that is, these; *) where he put knowledge and references, with explanations of his sources or etymologies of words, the book certainly leaves you feeling a whole lot smarter.
That being said, having so much in the book can make it a bit hard to take in or be captivated by as there is just so much. I did find myself taking rather long breaks, but when I did pick up again, I often didn't want to stop reading.
A great, very knowledgeable book, that's perfect for those interested in not just greek myths but a classics type of knowledge regarding it.
He even discussed different Heroes journeys home, not just Odysseus. Odysseus' journey began halfway through the book, prefaced by how Ajax the lesser perished and how Agamemnon was killed. Agamemnon's tale spanned out second longest to Odysseus', as Fry essentially covers the entire Oresteia.

needed to draw him with long hair or else i'd die
99% of all murders committed by women in ancient greek plays are completely justified
fun fact! when I first read the song of achilles, I called agememnon āaggieā because I didnāt know how to pronounce his name
That's adorable omg

One thing I really associate with Khaos is instrumental music. Especially dramatic instrumental music. Idk, there's something about the lack of words that reminds me of the primal state of the universe
If I think too hard about ancient Greece I'll cry because what do you mean I'll never get to worship at my gods' temples in their full glory? Imagine how close they must have felt. The wind through the temple halls must have felt like their breath. Standing in those temples must have felt like standing before that god themself. Giving them tiny offerings as they tower over you. Approving.
My chest feels tight with the knowing that I'll never be able to bow with my face to the cold floor in those sacred spaces.
UGH!
I felt this too, and still do!!!! Why did they civilisation have to fall and crumble, why did the temples have to collapse and cave? š I hope one day paganism(of all kinds, hellenistic, norse, welsh, you name it!) Becomes popular again and the world isn't purely the top 7 religions; I would kill to have humans build at least one hellenistic temple. one.
i always get so happy when i see people talking about their deities and i really donāt know why. i get as excited hearing other people talking about their deities as i get talking about my deities
PLEASE YAP ABOUT YOUR DEITIES, I WANNA HEARšš
