Dask Watches One-Punch Man Episode 5: The Ultimate Master
<-- The Modern Ninja (The Ultimate Master) The Terrifying City -->
Saitama and Genos take the Hero exam, with Genos becoming an S-rank hero and Saitama becoming a C-rank hero. An A-rank, Snek, who thinks that Saitamaās position is unjustified, tries to beat him up; this goes about as well as one would expect. With his new arms installed, Genos decides that he wants to spar with Saitama. Although he puts on a much more impressive display, this still goes about as well as one would expect, albeit without Saitama actually punching him. Later at dinner, Genos is approached by Amai Mask, the top-tier A-rank hero, who sinisterly welcomes him to the order. Genos then decides that he wishes to move in with Saitama.
This was easily the best episode so far. The reason that I havenāt been keeping up with my schedule is because so far, I just havenāt been anywhere near as impressed with the series as I was expecting, mainly from the seeming disconnectedness of the plots at the fairly lackluster two previous episodes, but this episode magnificently tied together the past four and also set up a probable main antagonist in Amai Mask.Ā
But probably my favorite part of the episode was how characters are really starting to take notice of Saitama being far, far stronger than he has any right to be given his training method. Honestly, I wasnāt sure if this was going to be brought up any further than the joke in episode three, but now thereās the Hero Association saying that beneath his exterior lurks the power of a god and also how effortlessly Saitama defeats Genos after he tells him to go all out... It makes me think that, from an in-universe standpoint, itās a very good thing that Saitama is so mellow.
Seriously though. Ass-chinās dad started the Hero Association. Genos only got S-ranked because of his destroying the House of Evolution. The fight between Genos and Saitama, which was every bit as amazing as I was expecting it to be. This was the episode that I was wanting, and this was the quality that I was expecting when I went into this series.
But the green-haired girl still hasnāt appeared. Damn it.
The Fitness Test. The second there was that slow pan up on Saitama, showing him in extreme detail only to end on the smooth face I knew that this was going to be a hilarious scene, and it was, with Saitama absolutely demolishing each test they three at him - high speed side jumps, slamming his head through the ceiling on the high jump, and the punch test... well, going about as one would expect.
The Saitama/Genos Fight. It was exactly as amazing as I expected it to be with Genos pumping out tons of awesome, powerful moves only to not land a single scratch on Saitama, followed by Saitama effortlessly defeating him when he goes all out. Genosās line summarizes this scene:Ā āHeās on a different levelā.
On the one hand I canāt think of a third scene that really stood out from the rest but I also canāt think of any subpar scene, so just two from this episode.
Also, I supported Snek for tumblr Decision 2016.
