why are people so mean towards mass effect andromeda

Whenever I bring up people being unfair towards Mass Effect: Andromeda, I’m not talking about people being upset about the m/m romance options. That was a valid complaint, that was a valid criticism.

I’m talking about the people that are just relentlessly unfair about everything else. People that condemned the whole game based on animations? It’s not as though BioWare is a company known for its graphical fidelity or its facial animations. It’s not as though it’s a game where you don’t have the ability to customize your protagonist–and any game that gives you this ability, to account for all the possible outcomes of player character faces will have simpler facial animations than say, something that’s been completely motion-capped for a specific actor’s face. 

I’m talking about the people who are angry that it’s not the Mass Effect Trilogy, the people that wanted Shepard back. It was never going to BE the Mass Effect trilogy. Mass Effect: Andromeda was supposed to be a stand-alone, away from the trilogy, an attempt to continue writing in the Mass Effect universe even though Shepard’s story was over. There was no way they could have expanded off of Mass Effect 3 and there was no way they could have brought Shepard back. They wanted something new, they wanted something different, they wanted something a little more light-hearted so they could have fun.

I’m talking about the people who insist this is the worst game ever made because of a few hiccups and short-fallings. The people that insist that because Mass Effect: Andromeda failed, BioWare is a failed company and everything they make is perpetually going to be terrible.

Fuck that shit. Fuck all of it. Mass Effect: Andromeda is a fun game with a positive vibe that feels good to play with all the negativity in the world surrounding me. They could have so easily slipped and turned it into a colonization simulator, but they avoided that, and actually address that a couple of times. 

And now, because a bunch of people got all up in arms about a couple of hiccups, the Mass Effect franchise is on ice and we might never see anything new for it again, and some people aren’t giving a game they might sincerely enjoy a chance.

Why. Why are people so mean to this game.

I don’t know. I loved it, tbh. I think people were comparing it unfairly to ME3, which was a heavy-hitter of a game, when they should have been comparing it to ME1. ME1 was weird. It was awkward in places. (As much as I love these hammy scenes to pieces, remember how awkward it was to ask Liara about her people?) But it had a sizzling sort of potential there, a potential that could be built up in later games. Don’t tell me Garrus became your ride or die after just ME1. He became that in ME2-3. Don’t tell me Liara became the love of your videogame life after ME1. She became that over the course of 2 and 3. 2 and 3 are what made the ME franchise special. Even though it was an excellent game, 1 was setting up the premise.

ME:A is ME1.

It needs further games and dlc to show its true potential. And now we probably won’t get those.

Andromeda is quirky and rough like ME1 and I love them both for it. Andromeda deserves to get the same chances the OT did. Bioware listens to its fanbase, they deserve better.

hi everyone! this is kind of a self promotion kind of thing. i’ve started a new blog - dumplingart.tumblr.com

i’m a fine arts student and i love drawing but haven’t drawn for myself in a long time because all my time is taken up by making work that my lecturers want, really. so i’ve decided to get back into what i want because this year i’ve become so drained with my degree and need to get back into what i want to do, for me, not for others.

because i don’t have much purpose with what to draw, and i’m still trying to really get anatomy and such down because my favourite thing to draw is people, i’ll be drawing and posting images of what i have photos of and adding some song lyrics alongside them because i listen to shit tons of music when i draw and that kind of directs me to take photos of what i imagine would pair well.
