knife help plz! Plz I beg of thee!
Story taking place in vaguely late Victorian England, but I made it up so it doesn't have to actually be historically accurate.
I want my characters, wearing trousers, to have a dagger large enough for sparring on them. At least a foot long, including the handle, but even that's kinda small for the situation.
The knives are partially for self defense but also as a shared hobby. Recreational knife fighting.
It doesn't need to 100% concealed, but at least subtle, if that makes sense. If someone who has never had a personal interest in Edwardian fashion saw it, it wouldn't seem out of place.
What are some reasonable options for them to carry their knives?
They are not wearing cloaks
The knife cannot just be small
Historical accuracy is negotiable
Trying to find results via mine own searching is making me frustrated bcs I am impatient, but also bcs it's a lot of either modern small knives, medieval costumes, or people just generally focusing more on the "hidden" and "historicaly accurate" aspects. I am not giving them a cane sword, thank you tho.
Rn I'm leaning towards something on their arm or back. It's situationally reasonable for them to have multiple options, bcs hobby. Combat sport.
If you have answers or know where to find them please lmk. I thought this would be easy to research bcs who doesn't love a dagger fight, but noooo. "Daggers were for quick stabbing, not prolonged engagement." I know!! And I don't care!! It's my world and I say they parry!!!! I am looking for best option, not waterproof serious functional option!!! I'd prefer it to be historicallly accurate and entirely functional but I know when I am asking too much 😔
