If you are anything like me, and something tells me you are, you have a hell of a time fitting in self-care. Hey I get it; we're all busy right? Wrong! There should be NO excuse to not fitting in
Just for a moment, let yourself be here. Let yourself STOP becoming more, better, or different. You are not a walking mistake. You are not a problem to be solved.
-Adyashanti
What do YOU want?
Everybody has an opinion! In every situation and decision we're trying to make someone will tell us what we should think...whether or not we asked. It can be helpful to have other viewpoints. However when we listen to everybody else, worry about making the wrong choice and mull over the right one, we don't feel motivated. When we're weighed down by the "should"s of fitness and what we're "supposed" to dos, we don't feel inspired. And those habits don't last long. With SO many health and fitness trends constantly blowing up our newsfeed and inbox it can be daunting to figure out not only what is best for us, but also what we actually WANT.
What do YOU want?
Generally we just want to feel good. Vibrant, energized, capable, strong.
Personally I like a balanced diet including alcohol and sweets, and a variety of exercise days including Pilates, Yoga, Cycling, Weights, and Swimming. There have been plenty of latest crazes dictating the elimination of meat and carbohydrates while running 8 miles everyday. I don't enjoy running long distances, and I DO enjoy meat and carbs.
So listening to our body is key. Our bodies are smart. They tell us when we've pulled a muscle, when we're thirsty, when we need a deep breath. We know what colors we like and what fabrics we don't. Listening to THOSE opinions is powerful. Listening to our own needs promotes the real, continuing growth.
A lifestyle change isn't a diet or a trending workout. It's a long lasting, meaningful choice based on what makes US feel healthy, strong and vibrant. Health blogs and the opinions of health and fitness experts are great resources as a starting point and as an inspiration, but start looking to yourself for what makes you feel good.
What do YOU want? What makes YOU feel vibrant?
"Resistance training, the essence of Pilates, is scientifically proven to create lean muscle and rev up your metabolism to burn calories all day long," Ungaro explains. "Cardio is great; but the second you hop off the bike or the treadmill, you stop burning calories. With Pilates, the second you're done, you start burning calories."
Alycea Ungaro

From awesome site "Oh She Glows"!! Healthy, no-bake almond butter cups! I used hot chocolate powder mix for the cocoa powder, ice cube trays instead of muffin tins, and agave instead of maple syrup. From those substitutions I was able to make this from everything I had on my shelves!
Also, I added a sliced piece of Medjool Dates on top and it was a delicious topping.
Enjoy a healthy sweet during the holidays!

The Pilates Breath: An Intro
The Breathing in Pilates is an essential element to the practice in a similar way to Yoga, however it is used differently. Coordinating the breathing to the movement is always difficult at the start but it will soon come naturally. In Pilates the breath is the fuel to the movement.
The breath acts as a rhythm for the movement, helps invigorate the muscles, move toxins out of the body, gets the blood flowing to warm up the body and centers the mind. A targeted breathing exercise can actually be an abdominal strength builder without any crunches. Each movement is paired with a breath which either is an inhale, an exhale or a pulsing breath.
As you inhale the movements are generally a lengthening of the body such as a pushing out on the reformer, or an expansion of the body away from the center. The exhales are paired with a contraction of the core, a twist or a pull inward toward the center of the body. For all movements the navel is constantly pulling inward toward the spine. This translates to your abdominal support. Think of this even more during the exhale. However, on the inhale you don’t want to allow the ribs to expand too much or the belly to puff outward.
Bottom line: the breath strengthens your Pilates practice and gives you more energy during the day, so breathe!

WHO IS PILATES FOR?
EVERYONE. PILATES SETS YOUR BODY UP FOR SUCCESS WHATEVER IT DOES. WHETHER YOU’RE TRAINING, TONING OR RECOVERING, YOU’LL DO IT BETTER, STRONGER, MORE EFFICIENTLY.
PERFORMANCE
Pilates improves performance by conditioning your body and helping it move more efficiently. Your balance and coordination will improve, and you'll never be too sore to train for your sports or other activities.
REHABILITATION
Pilates ensures that no muscle is over-trained or under-trained, creating balance in the body, with less risk of injury. And there's no impact, so you move safer and smarter.
OVERALL FITNESS
Pilates offers so many exercises, you'll never hit a plateau. You'll work muscles deep within the body that other forms of exercise can miss. And by engaging your core and back, you'll feel as though you've been lifted up.
It's a workout that encompasses strength, power and agility to assist clients in achieving their fitness goals
You should be able to fire the body off without a lot of resistance
You don't need a lot of weight to make the body burn!
