Hi, just wondering if Hotep still alive?
It is on hiatus, but I do intend to revive it someday. It will be called DayBreaker now. I was unaware of the negative connotations of the word 'hotep' when I first created the comic. It made me realize I shouldn't try to continue the comic without first finding someone(s) to consult with to avoid anything else that might potentially be racist or otherwise culturally offensive.
Horus (Hor, Heru, Haroeris)
domain: the sky, the horizon, Kemet (black land, aka Egypt)
symbols: eye of horus, falcon, sun and moon together, double crown,
powers: tireless flight, can cast his sight anywhere by looking through the sun and moon, can create servants out of fire
Horus is the son of Isis and Osiris, and is king of the gods. He achieved this by winning the throne from Set, who was ruling in the absence of Osiris. He is usually benevolent, but is a dangerous force when angered. Horus tries his best, but can’t help worrying whether he’s as good a king as his father. He knows about as much as your dad does about technology (unless your Dad works in IT) and constantly needs things explained to him. Horus has many children. More than he remembers having, which is odd. In fact, there are a lot of things Horus doesn’t remember. It’s probably fine.
Nephthys (Nebet-het, Nebthet)
domain: Deshret (the red land, the desert_
symbols: linen wrappings, temples, kite (bird)
powers: reaper of souls, can kill you by cutting her hair, withering touch, can cast magic upon immortal souls to bless or curse them
Nephthys is the goddess/netjeret of destiny. One of the gods of death, as well as one of the four Children of Nut. She is the reaper of souls, the one who determines the length of a life. Each strand of her hair tells the story a life, written out on the linen that will one day wrap its owner’s mummy. Nephthys is the mother of Anubis, god of resurrection. She was once married to Set. It is said that she slept with Osiris to conceive her son, but Isis bears her no ill will, and the two have always been close. Nephthys often appears pale and skeletal, but she can also take on a beautiful appearance when giving one her blessing
Set (Seth/Setesh/Sutekh)
domain: formerly Deshret (the red land, the desert), post banishment he roamed everywhere outside Egypt/Kemet but did not control a domain
element: wind
powers include: able to make his voice so loud it breaks things, creator of thunderstorms and other extreme weather, unbelievably strong even by godly standards, immune to Apep’s magic and venom
symbols: Sah (the animal he is apparently supposed to be, which may or may not have ever existed), coil of un-cuttable rope, scepter that only he can lift, donkey
Set is the god/netjer of chaos. Chaos meaning unrest, disorder, disturbance. He’s always been an outsider, even before his banishment. The black sheep of the divine family. He is one of the four Children of Nut- the gods Ra entrusted with ruling the mortal world. When he was originally banished, Set did not have a human form. As none of the netjer have seen him take this form, they do not recognize him on sight. They’re kind of silly that way.

im finally getting surgery to (i hope) lessen my pain. i have been living with gradually worsening chronic pain for two years straight now. i haven’t been able to work at all, even from home, because of my pain and the anxiety it creates. i cant even consider any sort of transitioning or hormone therapy right now even though my dysphoria gets to be pretty soul-crushing some days.

my spouse is autistic, which for her makes it insanely difficult to keep the jobs she’s very much qualified for, all because of social customs. functioning in society is already tough for us as pansexuals and genderqueer persons. folks on the spectrum and psychiatrists agree that working for oneself is often the only way to have a steady career with autism

The story of the Distant Goddess is absolute proof that it’s a crime that Ancient Egyptian mythology hasn’t entered the popular conciousness in the same way as Greek stuff.
Short, super paraphrased version: Ra is sick of humanity being rebellious wee bastards, so he sends a goddess as an embodiment of his vengeance, usually Sekhmet in the form of a great fuckoff lion - first to the southern deserts to wipe out the followers of Set. She does so, and then for unspecified reasons, Ra decides maybe humanity is redeemable hey call off the murderlion. But being an embodiment of pure divine retribution, she isn’t really having it.
So Ra sends Thoth out in an effort to soothe the goddess before she arrives in the north and wipes out everything including the gods (she’s just that strong). He’s terrified, but he tries all sorts of cunning and wisdom and trickery and tells her moral tales and all that, but all he can do is delay her.
In the meantime, Ra’s priests of the north are hard at work. They brew thousands of barrels of beer, and mix pots and pots red dye. And when the goddess inevitably arrives, they mix it up and pour it into the reeds of the nile. Believing it to be the spilled blood of her enemies, she drinks it up proudly… And gets EXTREMELY drunk, calming down and transforming into Hathor, goddess of joy and love.
And once a year to celebrate this momentous occasion, Egyptians would get Absolutely Plastered.

Color tests for Hotep. Everyone looks like blobs today. I started this Egypt gods comic on DA a million years ago but went on hiatus to work on the plot and shit. Well guys. IT IS TIME.
Full disclosure : this is a comic about Set upstaging all the other gods because he is too extra to be contained. Also if you’re an Osiris fan….. Well…. You know who is NOT.
