your first meeting was on campus at the student union.
akaashi keiji was currently having lunch with one of his coursemate before their next lecture.
“oh, yukie! what are you doing here”
the honeyed voice of a student walking their direction called out.
“heyy~ rare to see you in the student union instead of the library for once”
as yukie responds, akaashi briefly raised his head to greet the faceless voice with a small smile.
cute. he thought to himself before going back to his meal while you and yukie chattered away about the exam season.

that was the extent of your relationship, so then why was he drowning in thoughts of you a month later at 4am during a late library session.
after that first interaction at the student union, he’s been noticing you around the library on a daily basis. whenever you’d made eye contact, you’d send him the sweetest smile he’s ever seen with a big wave in his direction.
sometimes your not even sat in the same area, but it has now become a habit for him to go out of his way to look for you whenever he’s in the university’s library.
you’d usually arrive at the library at 10am during the semester, however you’ve been coming earlier and earlier, arriving as early as 8am on some days.
well it makes sense, it is exam season after all, and the library would be filled up by 10am.
wait, this is creepy.
akaashi began to reflect on his detailed knowledge of your schedule despite never having a proper conversation with you before.
quickly glancing at the corner of the computer screen, the clock displays 5:54am.
it’s turning 6am soon, i’ve spent the past two hours thinking about someone i’ve never even spoke to before.
sighing to himself, he takes a deep breath before finally returning to work, addressing the egregious amount of tabs he had open.
not before he heard someone entering his usual area.
who in their right minds would be here this early? akaashi wondered, forgetting that he had arrived 2 hours prior.
as the footstep grew closer, you perk up noticing a familiar pair of glasses peaking above the computer screens.
“hey akaashi! i knew you’d be here, i brought you a cup of coffee cause i noticed you’d always get one when the cafe opens”
you greeted him, walking in his direction with two cups of hot coffees in your hands, setting them down on the usual desk he was situated on.
he was gobsmacked, flabbergasted.
you walked in at 6am, after he’s been thinking of you for the past 2 hours, holding what he could only assume was homemade coffee, since no coffee place would be open before the crack of dawn.
you continued looking at him with your usual sweet smile. he stared back at you and the coffee you brought with his jaws ajar. tilting your head in confusion, as akaashi continues to process the scene unfolding before his eyes.
“are you.. an angel?”
akaashi was about 55% sure you were a hallucination and he had accidentally fell asleep and started lucid dreaming. i mean you guys never even spoke to each other before, could you blame him?
fortunately, you grounded him back on earth, as you laughed in his face.
“come on, it’s not that big of a deal. i always make my own cup of coffee before coming anyways, making another cup for a hardworker like you isn’t too much work”
half way through your reply, akaashi came to the fact that you were indeed very real, and that was the first thing he’s ever said to you.
trying his best to ignore his embarassment he tries to redeem himself to save whatever pride he had left.
“i’m sorry about that, thank you so much for the coffee, you really didn’t have to but i greatly appreciate it”
“no problem! i hope you enjoy it!”
you flashed him a wide smile, that was brighter than any other he ever received from you. he felt his heart palpitating at this interaction, mentally blaming it on the caffeine, before he realises he hasn’t had any.
“if you don’t mind me asking, why are you here so early?”
ignoring his heart beat that has increased to alarming rates. he asked about your deviation from your usual schedule.
weird that you know that keiji. he mentally berates himself before listening to your reply.
“actually ive been came earlier in hopes of being able to see you..”
looking bashful, you confessed the reason that you were here 2 hours earlier than usual.
now, akaashi may be sleep deprived, but spending the majority of his university career decoding symbolisms of love and romance in modern literature did teach him a thing or two.
he was aware that he’d be stupid to not ask you out right now. and so he did,
“hey, if you don’t mind, do you wanna grab breakfast together later at the cafeteria? my treat, as thanks for the coffee”
“is this a date?”
“um… yes?”
akaashi’s life flashed before his eyes at this point. thousands of thoughts crossed his mind in matters of milliseconds.
why did she ask that. why did i say ‘yes’. and why would i phrase it like a question, at least be confident if you were going to say ‘yes’. i hope she didn’t ask cause she’s already taken. this feels like gambling.
before he could dig himself a bigger grave for his thoughts, you flashed him another one of your bright wide grin.
“i would love to grab a breakfast date! is 8am good?”
all akaashi could do was nod, as you took your cup of coffee, sending him your typical smile before walking away.
gambling rocks. akaashi thought to himself, before accepting that his report would not be written any time soon.

bonus:
“oh, yukie! what are you doing here”
you walked up to your senior who was eating lunch with a young black-haired man.
as you conversed with yukie, the man briefly glanced at you sending a polite smile before returning to his food.
smash. you confirmed to yourself after catching a good look at his face.
