Man I haven’t used tumblr in so long. I should skim through it more often. It’s probably the same as it’s always been.

MY ASS!!!!!
we can all learn something of resiliency from these beautiful, deeply stupid creatures
sunfish are intelligent actually, they're active swimmers and dive and hunt during the day while hanging out near the surface at night. that's right, they're actually predators.
read this: (source)
sunfish are even strong enough swimmers to breach, (insane considering they average 540 – 4,400 lbs!!!) which is a much different image than the useless floating dummies that everyone seems to think they are :[
all this sunfish disparagement drives me wild. you can learn so much from the ocean sunfish because its actually an ingeniously evolved fish that's perfectly adapted to migrate between depths.
here's some additional reading: (Tweet) (Informational article)
People tagging like gore or animal death need to know the one in the first image is possibly just fine! That entire area of the body is pure muscle and it looks already healed. It will just be living its life like a bitten cookie.
yeah it's just bones and gristle back there, no internal organs. this guy will probably make it but GEEZE I bet that hurt.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that people aren’t intentionally bad at communication.
After filtering data through experience, the original data usually isn’t the same.

My advice when folks are struggling with writing in the third-person omniscient is to Lemony Snicket it up. Give your omniscient narrator strong opinions about what’s going on. Don’t fall into the trap of assuming that the third-person omniscient perspective must also use the objective voice; those are two separate things, and many of the most popular and successful writers who’ve written in the third-person omniscient do not, in fact, use the objective voice.
“Willingness to admit the narrative has a voice” is, I think, a big part of what makes young adult literature so much more engaging than a lot of books marketed at adults, particularly adult men.
“Lemony Snicket it up” is a very good phrase and very good advice
I just appreciate seeing third-person omniscient recognized as an actual POV, because people are often dismissive of it (and yes, this is good)
The discovery that we had it backwards and that more realistic cave paintings are generally older than more abstract ones is exciting from an anthropological perspective, because it demonstrates that art movements have existed for as long as art has, but I have to imagine there’s some poor biologist out there somewhere going “you mean to tell me that our Paleolithic ancestors had the ability and means to record realistic, highly detailed depictions of contemporary flora and fauna the whole time and simply chose not to?”
Well everyone knows what these things LOOK LIKE, Thag, why would you just COPY them?
Surely the trick is to evoke what they are at SOUL, Thag. If I want to look at a mammoth I can just GO FIND A MAMMOTH. DUH.
