Summary: Fairies? They apparently werenât just for kids. The town folk had warned you of a group of young adults that ran about like children, chasing stories and dreams. Despite your childlike curiosity for fairies, you decided to head their warnings and keep away from the odd men. Like the rest of the town, you couldnât imagine just what could be wrong with the men that they thought folktales and spirits could actually exist. Maybe if you hadnât touched something that didnât belong to you, you could have continued ignoring them. Unfortunately, you didnât have much of a choice. Something weird was happening to you, and they were the only ones who might know what.
TW: None? I thinkâŚ.

Chapter 2
Puffing out a sigh, You yanked your car into park and stared at the house you had pulled up to. It was truly a gorgeous house. It was old, and cute. Your jaunts on pinterest and animal crossing pulled up words like âcottage coreâ and âfairy coreâ. That was to say that your temporary abode was idyllic and heavily perfumed. Your Auntâs front yard was caged in with an old and study fence. The thin slates were overwhelmed by foliage that peaked through the leafage with pale yellow buds. You doubted that was where the sweet scents were blooming from though.
Instead, you were more sure it was the bushes that coiled up from the ground. Ever the horticulturists, you dubbed these bushes the âcool dark bushes that every awesome gothic cottage hadâ. The blue flowers that spilled from the bush were thick and notable. Something you were certain meant âhello, I do- in fact- produce too much smells for your poor noseâ.
âYet here we are,â You said with melancholy. âApproaching a scented doom, with naught a drop of caffeine to mediate it.â Dramatics aside, you really werenât sure you were ready to take care of the house.
âWell, no time like today.â Yanking the keys from the ignition, you opened the car door and stepped out onto the heated pavement. It was no surprise that the sweet scent of pollen irritated your nose. You rolled your nose with your scrunching to ease the imagined pollen dust that tickled it. âNature. You are truly as beautiful as you are horrendous.â You declared before slamming the driver car door shut. âIâll treat you as best I can, but you should invite some friends if you can. Iâm not the best at gardening, and youâre all too beautiful to die.â
As expected, the garden around you had no response. The only answer was a cool breeze that ruffled your clothes and soothed the scorch of the sun.
âOf course Iâll do my best. Itâs just a warning.â You sang out as you grabbed your suitcases from the back of your car. âI hope you donât mind me talking to you, studies show that most everything responds well to positive auditory stimuli.â You said as you closed the door with another slam. âYouâll hear a lot of me the next few months. You will even grow tired of my voice, I promise.â You dragged your suitcases across the pebbled driveway, finding an odd peace from the agitated sound.
âWonder what a normal person would be saying to you guys.â You pondered as you pushed your way through the small gate off the driveway, and down the small walkway. Entering the small front yard made it obvious that no matter how wild the yard looked, it was exceptionally planned. The thick mulch path was well groomed, bordered by vibrant near incandescent blooms. They sprouted from delicate stalks in fragile clusters. Each blossom was smaller than a ladybug, cute and sweet. You longed to trim a few to bring inside, but ignored the temptation.
It was already evening, and you were tired.
You had planned to be at the house and settled much sooner. Arriving at the coffee shop was meant to be a delightful stop for liquid adrenaline. You would then drive to the house, relax on the front porch with the coffee, and allow yourself to take in the garden. You had imagined a lovely hour of daydreaming and humming as you read. Then unpacking in peace with your music blasting, and your anti-stimulation earplugs rested in your ears.
It had been a lovely plan. One that was languid and peaceful. It was meant to let you take in your responsibilities without the actual need to do them.
Yet here you were thrumming with stress after having watched a barista collapse in front of you. You scowled as you kicked mulch onto the front porch with your heavy steps. âDisgusting people, who letâs someone just collapse all alone like that. They all disappeared like cockroaches after the ambulance left. Zero empathy.â You said with a growl, aggressively kicking the mulch off the porch. The stinging scent of the mulch assaulted you, but you shook it off just as you did everything else.
Brushing off the fleeing emotions, you eyed the creamy wood with pinched brows. âHow does she even keep it this clean?â Pouting, you dragged your suitcase across the porch. âDoes she mop it or something? How can something look so rustically clean.â Whining you pulled the spare keys from your pocket, letting the familiar tinkling of the bells on your keychain ground you. âIâm not mopping a porch, saying this here and now.â
Yet as much as you tried to focus on the here and now, on the pretty house you had entered, and the dreamy yard you had left behind- you found yourself thinking of the boy. The man, you supposed. You were no longer a child, and he was most certainly older than you. If only by a few years, but enough that you knew he wasnât a boy. He was an adult- like you.
âI certainly donât feel like an adult.â You grumbled as you shoved the first suitcase down the hall. You realized belatedly that it was a bad idea to let it roll on itâs own as you watched it spin down the hall before crashing to the floor. âSeriously?â A high pitched whine left your lips before you shut the front door, locking it behind you. âWhat kind of idiot just tosses a suitcase down the hall like that.â Yet as you said that, you found your hands clasping the second suitcase, mere moments from a violent shove and a repeat of the first event.
âNo, no, not today.â You released the suitcase and pointed at it like a stern nanny would a misbehaving child. âWe are not doing this. You will be pleasantly guided down the hall and there will be no antics.â You were thankful you were alone in the house, the last thing was someone hearing you scold a inanimate object for something you had done.
Trudging over to the case that had crashed itâs way through the hall, you found yourself pulling the odd stone from your pocket. Your thumb rubbed itâs cool surface and you felt a thrum of peace at the soothing sensation. âI wonder if heâs okay.â The rock remained as unimpressive as it had when you first picked it up, and you felt guilt just as strongly now as you had then. âIâll take you to back to him, I promise.â You felt something clench in your chest even as you said that.
You couldnât give it to him. You couldnât. It was yours.
âI wonder if the hospital here is big, it must not be.â Your fingers were clenched around the stone, growing white even as you hauled your suitcase up off the floor with your spare hand. âI donât even know his name. But thatâs fine. Hospitals are simple.â You had been to enough to know that they were stern, but helpful. You could find him fairly easily. Yet you found yourself placing the rock back in your pocket with a grimace. All you had to do, was let the rock go.

Previous Chapter
âOh, perfect,â Y/N sighed, feeling Yoongi cringe at the sound of the slider slamming shut, shaking the walls a bit. Poking her head back outside, she caught Seokjinâs attention as he was handing out Smarties to a gaggle of young boys in superhero costumes. âHoney, do you mind staying out here for a bit? I have a fight to de-escalate.â
The jaguar hybrid nodded solemnly, pity rounding out the corners of his sunset stare. Yoongi, adjusting the stiff collar of his dress shirt, made a move to follow Y/N to the parlor, but she stopped him with a light hand on his bicep.Â
âCan you stay with Seokjin? Just in case he gets overwhelmed, and I think itâs best if I try to feel out the vibe myself, for now,â Y/N asked, Yoongi melting over her pleading tone. âBesides, you should show off your costume. Looks good on you.â
With that, Yoongi cocked a brow, tongue flicking out to wet his lips, slinking back to the open front door.Â
âYou say that about all of my outfits, sweetheart,â Yoongi called over his shoulder with a smirk, taking her former spot on the porch steps beside Seokjin.Â
Comforted by the fact that Yoongi didnât seem as distressed as she originally read on his expression, she placed the pointed witch hat she was wearing on the staircase before heading towards the parlor. She didnât think the hat was appropriate considering the situation.Â
The citrusy, pine scent of copal incense filled the house thickly, a stick of it burning in pretty much each room for Samhain, but at the moment it was turning her stomach rather than clearing her head. The shouting had stopped since Jeongguk had stormed out, and Y/N couldnât even begin to fathom where he thought he was going. Further, as she hurried down the hall into the spookily decorated parlor, Y/Nâs concern for Hoseok overwhelmed everything else. Between his uneasiness around Namjoon, and the fact that he was never one to let a snide remark or what have you provoke him into an actual fight, she was worried about him.Â
As she entered the room, the first thing she noticed was Namjoon by one of the windows, his back to her and his forehead in his palm, ears turned backwards. Scanning the room, littered with candy wrappers and Halloween party favors, she located Hoseok, who was sitting in the leather recliner, quite pale and quite still, like he saw a ghost.Â
âWhatâs the problem this time?â Y/N cut to the chase, sweeping up cellophane from salted caramels on the coffee table, surprisingly maintaining a calm demeanor. At least the fight didnât escalate to physical violence. âAre you two alright?â
No one spoke, and the corny tune of âMonster Mashâ from outside filled up the silence comically. Hoseokâ still in his pirate costumeâ appeared like a fox hybrid statue on the recliner, and blinked at Y/N, the color slowly returning to his face as she approached him. Her hand outstretched, she reached to push some of his wavy mahogany hair out of his face, his forehead a tad clammy as her fingertips brushed it.Â
âJoonie, what happened? Werenât you guys just watching Scream? Whatâs with the yelling?â Y/N chose to question Namjoon, considering Hoseok was still locked in some kind of trance. Maybe he had too many caramels and was feeling sick.Â
Namjoon turned, tail literally between his legs, and guilt all over his handsome face once he met Y/Nâs eyes. Adjusting the neckline of his cable knit gray sweater, he cleared his throat uncomfortably.Â
âUh, truthfully⌠I donât know what started it. Jeongguk took offense to something that was said, and things kind of spiraled out of control from there,â Namjoon offered up, his voice gritty and strained.Â
She could only thank the sky that Taehyung was up in his room, editing photos on her laptop she had loaned him, and Jimin was out back with Vista. It was comforting that those two werenât involved, considering Taehyung had just begun to come around to some of the other hybrids, and Jimin tended to hold grudges over even petty arguments for days.Â
âOkay, well⌠I mean, Jeongguk makes rude remarks constantly. It must have been something personal to warrant him barrelling outside,â Y/N pressed, though immediately regretted it once the guilt on Namjoonâs face became even more cloaked in the shadow of it.Â
âIââ Namjoon began, taking a step towards Y/N and Hoseok, warily gazing at the latter as he was abruptly cut off.Â
âNamjoon wasnât a part of it. He was trying to calm Jeongguk down and break it up,â Hoseok interrupted loudly, as if he just remembered he had a body his spirit was inhabiting, and a voice, too.Â
Taken aback, both Y/N and Namjoon exchanged looks of bewilderment, the wolf hybridâs shoulders relaxing downwards several inches when Hoseok cleared his name. It was shocking that Hoseok actually came to Namjoonâs defense, despite his issue with wolf hybrids and the fact that he implicated himself as the instigator.Â
âHoseok?â Y/N urged gently, watching him squirm in his seat as he finally made eye contact with her. âWhat happened?â
Hoseok coughed uncomfortably into his fist, his ears drooping to the sides, his free hand tugging at the red sash tied around his waist. He looked like heâd rather stand in front of a moving vehicle than fess up, but Y/N couldnât go about repairing damage until she knew what had unfolded in her absence.Â
âI really didnât mean to set him off like that. Things were pretty normal, then he and Namjoon started talking about ghosts and shit. You know I donât really believe in all that crap, so I was just joking around but I guess I hit a nerve,â Hoseokâs throat was sort of scratchy sounding, hauling himself off of the recliner and pushing a hand through his hair. âSorry. I didnât want to ruin Halloween for youâŚâ
âOh, donât worry about that, Hoseok. Itâs still early in the evening, and I think itâs salvageable,â Y/N shook her head, knowing that Hoseok certainly didnât have malicious intentions, and he clearly felt badly about causing a ruckus. âIâll go find him, try to get him back into the house. Why donât you two go out front with Seokjin and Yoongi? Iâm sure the kids will love your costume, Hoseok, and our house has been popular this year. Those two could probably use a couple of extra hands, anyways.â
âYouâre not mad?â Hoseok ignored her suggestion, speaking incredulously, missing the look of dude just go with it Namjoon was sending him several feet away.Â
Again, Y/N shook her head. Fights would happen from time to time, there was no way of getting around it, and considering there was no physical violence involved, there wasnât a reason for her to be angry with Hoseok.Â
âNo, honey. Iâm going to talk to him though, and hopefully you two can work things out once he cools down,â Y/N put a hand on Hoseokâs shoulder blade, urging him towards the hall to the foyer with Namjoon hot on their heels. The sooner she found Jeongguk, the better, and she hoped that he wasnât taking his frustrations out on Jimin in the backyard. âItâs a beautiful night, itâll be nice for you two to get some air. Iâll come find you after I check in on Jeongguk.â
âBe careful, Y/N. Donât let him talk to you abrasively, even if heâs upset,â Namjoon stopped her by grabbing her shoulder firmly once Hoseok hurried outside to sit beside Seokjin, the wolf hybridâs expression serious and concerned.Â
âDonât worry too much, Joonie. Iâm sure everything will be okay,â Y/N soothed, Namjoon cocking an eyebrow as skepticism washed over him. It looked like he desperately wanted to follow her to the back yard, but he reluctantly went out on the porch to lean over the railing next to Yoongi, who was handing out lollipops to a set of twins.Â
Before she traipsed back through the house to head into the backyard, Y/N snapped a picture of the four hybrids on the porch with her phone with a tiny smile, all of them blissfully unaware that she had a secret folder in her camera roll containing candids of each of them. As she made her way through the kitchen, she giggled at the picture of Yoongi she had taken while he was cursing at a sheet pan of burnt vegetables he had forgotten to pull out of the oven.Â
With a sigh, she left her phone on the kitchen island and shrugged on her denim jacket hanging by the slider, pushing the cracked-open door and letting the chill autumn air shroud her. Recently, Jimin and Taehyung had helped her replace all of the outdoor lighting, so the backyard was illuminated and less haunted looking. In the distance, she could hear the thumping sound of Vistaâs hoofs as Jimin took her around some of the lengthy trails around their property.Â
It wasnât very difficult to find Jeongguk. All she had to do was follow her nose, the slightly sweet scent of burning tobacco cutting through the crispness of the night time air. He was over on the covered wooden swing under one of the willow trees positioned outside of the large window in the parlor. His eyes were squeezed shut with a hand massaging his temples, the lit cherry bright orange and making his features glow as a cigarette hung out of his mouth. Y/N knew that he was aware of her approaching, but he made no movement to indicate so.Â
Silently, she sat beside the elk hybrid, the swing swaying slightly with her weight, Jeongguk continuing not to acknowledge her presence even when she hummed as her spine hit the padded backrest. As she gazed up at the stars in the sky, she tried her best not to curl into Jeonggukâs warmth inches away. Minutes ticked away, and Jeongguk was still ignoring her, tattooed middle and forefinger prodding away at his right temple.Â
âCan I have a drag?â Y/N broke the ice, palms settling over her bare thighs to warm them up. Perhaps the short, twilight colored dress she had worn for her witch costume wasnât the most season-appropriate choice.Â
Wordlessly, and to her great surprise considering she was prepared for him to tell her to piss off, Jeongguk passed the cigarette over, eyes snapping open and looking down through his eyelashes to study the side of her face. Gratefully, Y/N took the cigarette, fingertips lightly brushing his, carefully bringing it to her lips and taking an indulgent drag. The Marlboro reds Jeongguk smoked were harsh, the tobacco tasted strong and fiery hot, and it had her lightly coughing as the smoke burned her lungs. Immediately, Jeongguk snatched the burning cigarette away with a grunt.
âThat was a bad idea. Seokjin is going to come out here and smack me around,â Jeongguk muttered, using his left hand to thump on Y/Nâs back as she coughed into her fist. âYoongi I can take. But the jaguar? Definitely stronger than he looksâŚâ
âIâm f-fine, oof, Jeongguk, donât hit so hard, youâre gon-na knock a rib out of place,â Y/N wheezed, leaning away from his harsh strikes. âYou should try some of my m-menthols. Those reds are nasty.â
Jeongguk halted his pounding on her back, leaning his elbows forward on his knees and cradling his head in his hands, as if he had a blinding migraine. Concerned, Y/N mirrored his action, eyeing how his antlers had darkened over the past few weeks in the absence of his velvet.Â
âAre you going to tell me what happened?â Y/N murmured gently, wondering why he seemed to be in so much pain. Did he drink too much of the alcoholic Butterbeer she had made earlier that evening?
âDoes it even matter to you?â Jeongguk shot back, a bit of bite to his smoky voice. His response made Y/N grit her teethâ she thought him and her were past this.Â
âOf course it does. How could you think it doesnât matter to me?â Y/N curled her hands into fists, staring daggers into the side of Jeonggukâs skull.Â
âI donât know. You and the fox are so close, Iâm assuming youâve taken his side and came out here to call me an asshole,â Jeongguk turned his head to meet Y/Nâs eyes, the onyx shade of his pupils intimidating and darkened with contempt. âHe can pretty much say whatever he wants, heâs your favorite.â
âWhat the fuck are you even talking about, Jeongguk? I care about all of you just the same. I donât take sides, I donât have favorites, and I want to fix whatever the problem is. You know, Iâm finding it odd that Iâm having to resolve conflict between two grown men,â Y/N ranted, feeling like she was just about fed up. Seriously, they were all older than her, shouldnât they be able to hash out their own arguments?
There was a brief moment where they both stared at each other with intensity, anger written across both of their faces, and Y/N wasnât sure who was going to break first. A muscle in Jeonggukâs jaw pulsed in agitation, momentarily breaking eye contact to stub out his cigarette on the bottom of his combat boots.Â
âYou donât have favorites? Yeah, Iâm sure,â Jeongguk muttered, mostly to himself. This, however, angered Y/N even more, but before she could open her mouth to deny the accusation once again, he continued. âYou know what? I donât even care. You didnât even need to come out here, I wasnât going to run away.â
âWhere is this âfavoritesâ thing coming from? Is that what your argument with Hoseok was about? He claimed it was a fight over paranormal subject matter,â Y/N tried her best to compose herself, though she felt that she was seconds away from throttling the elk hybrid and Hoseok.Â
âWhat do you think?â Jeongguk rolled his eyes, leaning back on the swing, his annoyance seeming to deflate second by second. He could probably smell how pissed Y/N was becoming. âLike I said, I donât care. I just told him to shut the fuck up about⌠whatever, I told him to shut up, and he wouldnât, so I came out here before my head could split.â
âHoseok likes to make jokes, he probably didnât mean anything by what he said, but Iâll still run it by him later that Iâm not cool with him spreading around the idea that I favor one of you over another. Okay?â Y/N took a few seconds to collect her thoughts before responding to an increasingly uncomfortable looking Jeongguk. Clearly, she wasnât ever going to know exactly what Hoseok had said, judging by both of them skirting around the issue.
Jeongguk went back to ignoring her, now massaging the area above his eyebrow piercing, his lips pursed and eyes fluttering shut once more. Shuddering with a sudden icy breeze that rolled by, Y/N wondered why she could still feel electricity in the air even though their heated exchange had ended.Â
âYou mentioned that you had a headache, want me to get you some Advil?â Y/N leaned closer to Jeongguk, close enough to smell the earthiness of his black leather jacket, the muskiness of his oaky body wash, and the smoke that constantly clung to him. The masculine scent was enough to have her head going a bit fuzzy, embarrassingly enough to admit.Â
Jeongguk grunted, one of his ears flickering rapidly, his posture becoming stiffer as Y/N inched into his proximity closer than ever.Â
âIâm fine, Y/N. Go back inside, itâs too cold out here for you to be wearing that little dress,â Jeongguk gave her a once-over as he spoke, his voice rough and scratchy.
âIâm not cold! Let me get you that Advil, you look like youâre really in pain, sweets,â Y/N attempted to cover up her blushing when he made the comment about her dress by making a move to get off of the swing, but a hand grasped her wrist before she could get too far.Â
With the force of the hand tugging on her wrist, Y/N was forced backwards, ass landing back on the swing harshly and the wind knocked out of her lungs as she found herself nestled up to Jeonggukâs sideâ pretty much the closest she had ever been to him. Floored, she stared up at Jeongguk with owlishly wide eyes, her line of sight landing on the lip ring sucked into his mouth and his slightly crooked cupidâs bow.Â
âWhat did you just call me? âSweetsâ?â Jeonggukâs voice was abruptly saccharine, and Y/N was spellbound, finally letting herself curl into the warmth of his body and melt. âHave I ever been sweet to you?â
This question had her head spinning. The way he was speaking to her, in a lilting, almost cooing way, was entirely new to Y/N and out of character for Jeongguk. Truthfully, the term of endearment fell out of her mouth so naturally she didnât even register she had done it in the first place, but Jeongguk certainly did. Still blinking at him like a three week old kitten, Jeongguk arched an eyebrow expectantly.
âYes,â Y/N squeaked, honestly forgetting the question he had asked her mere seconds ago, too busy drowning in the darkness of his irises.Â
âYes, what?â Jeongguk prodded, cocking his head slightly as he lazily draped his arm across the swingâs backrest behind her. Stunned, Y/N used all of her might to will her mental facilities into functioning properly again. âYes, you think Iâm sweet?â
âY-yes, I do. In your own way, you can be s-sweet,â Y/N stuttered, heart beginning to race in her chest. How did they get there? The push-and-pull between them was mind-bending, confusing, exhilarating. She had to look away from him in order to screw her head back on straight.
âHmm? Like when?â With her heart in her throat, Y/N sat dumbstruck as she realized he still had her wrist in his grip, disinterestedly sweeping his eyes over her fingertips and knuckles. âTell me.â
âUh⌠when you helped with the cleansings and banishing. That night when I collapsed, and you took care of m-me. Telling me how to handle the situation between Joonie and Tae,â Y/N listed off the top of her head miraculously, though she had dozens of instances where Jeongguk had revealed his softer side to her.Â
Jeongguk paused, finding her eyes again, like he was trying to identify the colors of her soul, slowly releasing the silver ring hugging his lower lip from his mouth. Y/Nâs gaze was fixed on the action, and like a woman possessed, all she could think about was how the silver ring would feel against her own lips.Â
The silence was absolutely maddening. Blood was rushing in her ears, and she had a sickly suspicion that he could read her mind about wanting to kiss him. Attempting to pull away a few centimeters in order to not act on her rampant fantasies, Y/Nâs breath got stuck in her throat when Jeonggukâs grip on her wrist tightened bruisingly. Hissing, she arched into him, her free hand flailing out to grip the collar of his jacket.Â
âJeongguk, youâre hurting me,â Y/N whispered, watching with awe as his eyes rounded out in alarm and he loosened his hold immediately. âWhatâs going on with you tonight?â
âStop worrying about me, please,â Jeongguk looked a bit pained as he vocalized his hoarse plea, the arm he had over the swing backrest landing heavily across her shoulders. âNeed you to come here.â
For a heart-stopping moment, she really thought he was going to kiss her, using his arm wrapped around her to haul her into his chest, Y/N using the hand gripping his jacket to brace herself by pressing her palm over his heart. Taking her wrist, he hooked it around the nape of his neck, his other hand flat over her lower back, his head dropped as he buried his face into the base of her throat. The hasty, bold action had her gasping, her fingertips sliding through the longer silken hairs at the nape of his neck. It had been weeks since any of the hybrids scented her, Jimin being the last, and honestly it had slipped her mind that it was a ritual that had to be repeated periodically. The last of Jiminâs mark on her wrist had long since vanished, and the thought of having a fresh one from Jeongguk had her head swimming.Â
âMmm⌠youâre sweeter, I think,â the elk hybrid spoke over a breath, and Y/N was completely overwhelmed with all things Jeongguk. His scent, his voice and words, the way she felt protected encased in the solid muscles of his chest and arms. âDonât you? Sweetness?â
Hardly able to formulate a coherent thought, she barely heard a word of what he was mouthing into her neck. No wonder he was so quick to become agitated with Hoseokâs joking around, he had a splitting headache, and was being so forwardâ he needed to scent her again.Â
Taking the opportunity to be as close to him as possible due to the circumstance, Y/N all but crawled into Jeonggukâs lap, swinging a thigh over one of his to straddle it, the hand in his hair carding through the strands more boldly. Grunting gutturally with the press of her weight over him, Jeonggukâs hand moved dangerously low on her hip, making her skin flash with white-hot heat.Â
âFuck, what are youâŚâ Jeongguk groaned, nudging her earlobe with the tip of his nose, his free hand reaching up to grip her chin tightly and move it to the side. With her neck craned, delicate skin of her throat exposed to his penetrating gaze and the brisk night air, a reedy sigh escaped from her parted lips.Â
âBite already,â Y/N egged him on, becoming impatient. She had missed this, the intimate closeness to her boys, and she needed his teeth in her neck more than she needed her next inhale.Â
Jeongguk did not reply to her petition, though she swore she felt a slight puff of air against her sensitive skin as he snickered through his nose. Hold tightening on her, his lips descended, the chilly temperature of the silver ring through his lip making her shiver with delight.Â
Quaking on top of him, her eyes slid closed as Jeongguk dragged his tongue up from her collarbone to just below her ear, the smooth, rounded sensation of the barbell threaded through his tongue distantly familiar to her. Y/N was able to hold back the whimper that was threatening to tear from the back of her throat, though she could not choke it back when he sunk his teeth into the paper-thin skin of her neck, just below her left ear. The pain of his blunt, though somehow still razor-sharp incisors wasnât as intense as she remembered it to be the first time, and if anything, it had her collapsing more of her weight onto his sturdy chest.Â
She was plunged into the hazy euphoria at light speed, and as soon as his teeth were cutting into her flesh, Y/N could only grip his hair in her fist like it was her only anchor to reality. Breathing heavily, she winced as he pulled his teeth from the puncture wounds, repeating what he had done the first time he scented her; with a lave of his tongue, he pursed his lips, sealing them over the mark and sucking.Â
Boneless, Y/Nâs chest was heaving into Jeonggukâs as he bruised the skin around the puncture wounds, the sting of his teeth piercing her flesh completely absent once the brush of his tongue cauterized the site. His frame sagged with relief as he cleaned up his mess, droplets of her blood sluggishly rolling down her neck and pooling in the dips of her collar bones. Delirious and wickedly full of a strange, intimate emotion, Y/N snaked her arms around Jeonggukâs neck, hugging him desperately for the very first time.Â
As he came to, Y/N fully expected Jeongguk to pry her off of him, and she relished in the remaining seconds she had to hold him. However, to her immense surprise, Jeongguk clasped his forearms together behind her lower back, his nose still tucked into the crook of her neck as he embraced her back. She didnât know if in her post-scenting foggy haze that she was hallucinating the way he actually held her, but she was too wired with emotion to unpack that thought at all. Slumped against the elk hybrid, she weakly continued to stroke his silky chestnut locks with her fingertips, nuzzling into his sharp collar bones indulgently.Â
After a few minutes, her thoughts coming to her more fluidly as the high slipped away, Y/N was beginning to dread pulling away from Jeonggukâs warmth. He was the only thing blocking the teeth-chattering chill, and even then, she felt goosebumps blooming up the bare skin of her calves and thighs. As if sensing this, one of Jeonggukâs roughened palms trailed down to the skin of her outer thigh, covering the cool flesh with his wide hand, a grumble coming from the back of his throat. Once the heat of his palm nearly burned Y/Nâs thigh, she stiffened immediately in his arms, pulling away a few breaths to get a look at his face.Â
âGo inside, now. Put something warmer on before you hand out more candy,â Jeongguk finally used his grip around her hip to push her up and off of him, and astonishingly, she managed not to topple over and melt into the Earthâs core.Â
âCome with me?â Y/N extended her hand out to Jeongguk, not willing to part with him just yet.Â
With a soft chuckle, Jeongguk shifted his weight, standing on his own and paying no heed to her outstretched hand. Pouting, she followed his long strides across the backyard, still somewhat reeling from the interaction, the Halloween music from the front porch starting to ring in her ears as they got closer to the house. Studying the back of Jeonggukâs head as they walked towards the patio, she noticed him slow his pace so she could catch up, his chin tilting down as he looked at her.Â
âStop pouting,â Jeongguk smirked, making Y/Nâs annoyance with him return. Scoffing at him, she turned her nose up into the air, ditching him and storming away petulantly.Â
âSheesh. You really donât like not getting your own way, huh?â Jeongguk matched her pace with ease, taking her off guard for the umpteenth time that night by grasping her hand in his, thumb pinching all of her fingers together tightly as he continued on his way. âBratty.â
âIâm the brat?â Y/N squawked, squeezing Jeonggukâs fingers as hard as she could, though secretly delighted he was actually holding her hand. A giant step forward, in her opinion. âThatâs a crock. Youâre one of the brattiest men Iâve ever met.â
Jeongguk barked out a wild laugh, throwing his head back with abandon, and Y/N had never seen him look so mirthful. Heart hammering around in her chest again, she composed her face into nonchalance, tugging the elk hybrid into the house.
âYeah? I thought you said I was sweet? Did you lie to me?â Jeongguk teased, his expression becoming thoughtful as Y/N dropped his hand to shut the slider door, sighing in content as the heat in the house wrapped her up like a blanket.
Choosing to ignore him, Y/N rolled her eyes, moving to the island to pour herself a glass of red wine Yoongi had cracked open earlier in the night. Jeongguk was back to his normal, teasing self, and she had run out of wit to keep up with it for much longer that night.Â
âWouldnât you be able to tell if I was lying to you?â Y/N countered after a long sip of Cabernet, narrowing her eyes at the elk hybrid hanging up his jacket on the hatstand by the door. He was wearing a black Deftones tee-shirt under the jacket, which had her making a noise in the back of her throatâ she liked them, too. âAlright, I have to go rescue Seokjin. Hoseok is probably driving him up a tree.â
However, as she went to exit the kitchen, her path was blocked by his figure, tattooed arms crossed over his chest. What now?
âGo change first. If you wanna rescue Seokjin, put him out of his misery watching you shiver in a skimpy dress in fifty degree weather and throw some sweats on,â Jeongguk drawled, making heat crawl up her throat and bloom across her cheeks.Â
âOkay,â replied obediently, with no room for questioning the tone of authority in his voice. Not to mention, she couldnât believe she hadnât noticed Seokjinâs fretting over the course of the nightâ he did typically try and bundle her up even when the temperature was in the mid-sixties.Â
Again, before she could get too far into the foyer, his raspy voice called out her name. Looking over her shoulder, she scowled, waiting for him to tell her to shingle the roof while she was at it.Â
âSend the wolf in when you go back out. I want to finish Scream, and I donât want another spat happening if I watch it without him,â Jeongguk sent a wink her way, slouching off towards the dimly lit parlor with a smug look on his face. Bastard.Â
Muttering, Y/N woodenly found her way to her bedroom, rustling around in her drawers for a thick pair of leggings and her specific Halloween sweater with cute skeletons on it, she rid herself of the skimpy dress (sadly, it looked fantastic on her), and begrudgingly pulled on the warmer clothes, even going as far as tugging woolen socks up over her leggings to her knees. She looked a little ridiculous, but there was no way she was going out there and risking Jeongguk dragging her by her ear back inside, or making Seokjin worry about her.Â
Ruffling her hair in the mirror, she heard the slider from the kitchen being firmly shut and locked up, the heavy sound of steel-toed boots clacking against the marble floors. Jimin had finally come in from his evening ride.Â
Before she could scramble out to greet him, he had already whisked himself away into his bedroom, and then the sound of his shower tap noisily turned on. Old house, old rickety plumbing⌠even with the refurbished bathrooms, the pipes in the wall carried water everywhere with audible whooshing and clanking. Jimin typically took long showers after being out with Vista most days, he hated tracking dirt around the house, and his muddy boots were placed neatly on the giant shoe rack by the front door she had to order on Amazon recently.Â
The front door was shut, but she could still hear Yoongiâs gruff voice through the thick wood, which made her smile. Reaching for the doorknob, she paused, her phone vibrating in her leggings pocket.Â
Tae: Y/N, can I borrow your laptop until the morning ? I have a few more pictures to edit, Iâm sorry
Y/N: Donât be sorry!! Keep it as long as you need, Tae. As long as I can see the results!
Tae: Okay :) thx
She was definitely thinking of getting Taehyung a laptop for his birthday in December or perhaps for Christmas. It was that or getting some kind of desktop setup in the office next to Jiminâs bedroom, so anyone who needed to use a computer would have access to it. It all depended on whether or not she could rely on the money that would soon be coming in once they began boarding horses in the upcoming weeks.Â
Much warmer now in her new outfit, Y/N re-joined Seokjin, Yoongi, Hoseok and Namjoon on the porch, and she resumed her seat on the top step beside the jaguar hybrid. Seokjin certainly seemed relieved by both her return, but also by the way his mouth curved upwards in satisfaction and his eyes roamed over her attire, pleased that she had changed into something toastier. She took the plastic cauldron that was recently refilled with Hershey bars off of his lap, adjusting his crooked devil horn headband again with a click of her tongue.Â
âJoonie, Jeongguk wants to keep watching Scream with you, told me to send you back in,â Y/N tilted her head up to seek out the wolf hybridâs eyes, finding him staring at her neck with slightly narrowed eyes. Whoops, maybe she should have worn a turtleneck.Â
âEverythingsâŚ?â Hoseok appeared, guiltily, around Yoongiâs shoulder, a lollipop rounding out one of his cheeks. âAlright?â
âMm-hmm. You and I have something to talk about later, though. Nothing bad, donât worry,â Y/N assured with her hands up, as soon as Hoseokâs russet ears drooped in response.Â
âIâll go in, then,â Namjoon interrupted, not realizing that there was a young girl dressed as a little red riding hood gawking at him with cartoonishly large eyes. She pointed at him excitedly, tugging on her motherâs shirtsleeve to get her to notice Namjoon.Â
Ears perking up, he tilted his head at the girl, his eyebrows raised as he figured out who she was dressed as. Namjoon gave her a sweet, albeit wolfish, smile complete with pointed incisors and waved slightly, the girl squealing in delight and waving back. With blush dusting his cheeks, Namjoon retreated back into the house.Â
Shortly after Namjoonâs departure, Yoongi went inside, as well. He announced he was going to start on dinner; even though all he had to do was stick pizza from Salâs into the oven on sheet pans and dress the salads, but Y/N knew he was probably itching to get some alone time. Hoseok, too, started lamenting about the biting wind, and after fifteen minutes of handing out candy with Y/N and Seokjin, he, too, went inside to see what Jimin was up to.Â
âSo everything was worked out with Jeongguk? What is it that you have to talk to Hoseok about, did he really say something horrible?â Seokjin asked curiously, when there was a short reprieve of little ones barreling up their front walkway.Â
âAh, nothing horrible. He was just making jokes about how I have âfavoritesâ amongst you all, which just isnât true⌠I donât want him to give anyone else the wrong idea. I imagine Tae wouldnât have liked those jokes, either,â Y/N admitted, the sensation of Seokjinâs sleek tail periodically flicking her on the lower back familiar and endearing.Â
âI wouldnât have liked it, as well,â Seokjin grumbled, his thick lower lip jutting out into a pout. âNot all of his jokes always land, thatâs something he needs to learn.â
âAll in due time, Seokjin⌠there was no physical violence, and it was easily resolved, so thatâs all I can hope for,â Y/N sighed, tiredly leaning her cheek on Seokjinâs shoulder.Â
Purring, Seokjin hooked his arm through herâs, tucking his hand into his jacket pocket to secure their arms together. His bright eyes flashed, tiny giggles coming from the front of the property, indicating that they were about to get a few more visitors.Â
A Frankenstein, Red Power Ranger, and a girl dressed as a witch came skipping up their walkway, with great baskets already stuffed with various candies. Of course, all eyes landed on Seokjin first, with his vibrant orange eyes that shone in the darkness, his elegant, rounded black ears, and the length of his tail that curled to and fro behind him. It was moot to mention how gorgeous Seokjin was, additionallyâ he had many bashful kids, mothers, and even fathers alike gawking at his beautiful face the entire night.Â
Seokjin, however, was either used to people ogling at him, or perhaps he was painfully oblivious, so with a closed-lipped smile, he used his free hand to pass out chocolate bars once the kids chorused âtrick or treat!â. Y/N found that not only were children enamored with Seokjin, but he seemed to adore them as well. He tossed the chocolate bars in the air, the kids having to catch them with delight. The witch, whoâs attention was on Y/N clinging to Seokjin, seemed inquisitive, unlike her brothers who were happily catching candy in the air.Â
âI like your costume! Thatâs an awesome hat,â Y/N spoke up, the girl looking from her to Seokjin as if they were mythical beings that appeared before her.Â
âAre you married?â The girl ignored the compliments Y/N doled out, obviously referring to her and Seokjin, pressed up so close to each other it was like they were morphing into a singular body.Â
Y/N was at a loss for words. She knew kids could be incredibly forward and bold, but this question had her mouth drying up. Did she look old enough to be married? Further, did it make sense for her to be with a man as heart-stoppingly beautiful and kind as Seokjin? The simple, innocent inquiry rocked her world.Â
âUhââ
âYes, we are,â Seokjin grinned like the cat who ate the canary, his tail winding around Y/Nâs waist as he snuggled into her. Blood draining from her face, she side-eyed Seokjin with utter shock, not even noticing that the young girl was giggling like mad. âFor two months already!â
âI wanna marry a pretty hybrid like you, too!â The girl exclaimed, cupping her hands to make what Y/N assumed to be a mimic for hybrid ears on top of her head.Â
Once recovering from the fact that Seokjin had told the girl that they were a married couple, it dawned on her that he had used his adoption date as the day they âtied the knotâ. The sentiment was certainly not lost on her, stomach filling up with butterflies.Â
âLike me? Really?â Seokjin put a finger to his lips, theatrically acting out deep contemplations, eyes cast up to the stars and all. âDonât you think my wife is prettier?â
With that, Y/N coughed on a bit of spit that unfortunately found its way into her windpipe. While the girl was nodding in agreement, her mother was calling her name out on the street, and she went to follow her brothers up the walkwayâ but not before saying goodbye to her new friends.Â
âBye-bye!â She waved and grinned, and as Seokjin waved back, he pressed a loud, firm kiss to the apple of Y/Nâs cheek, concluding his great act.Â
Hand flying to the flaming flesh Seokjinâs lips pressed his stamp of affection over, she gaped at the jaguar hybrid as he waved at the children merrily, his eyes squeezed shut and offering up a toothy smile. Reeling, she waited until the voices of the children floated off down the street until she began breathing again, nudging Seokjin with her shoulder.Â
âHuh? What, are we out of candy?â Seokjin asked innocently, though there was a hint of mischief in the quirked corners of his mouth. Melting instantly, Y/N nudged Seokjin again, now feeling quite shy.Â
âNo, weâre good with candy still, husband,â Y/N couldnât help but poke fun back, since Seokjin was typically so easy to fluster. This time, he seemed somewhat unfazed, his squeaky laughter tickling her ears like she just told a hilarious joke. âYouâve been spending too much time with Hoseok. Teasing me like that.â
âSorry, I couldnât resist. She was adorable, and youâre cute when youâre caught off guard,â Seokjin shrugged, his tail tightening around her waist securely.Â
âSeokjinnie, stop embarrassing me! I feel like my blood is coming to a boil,â Y/N huffed, using a free hand to fan the heat across her cheeks.Â
âI know, I can feel how flushed you are from where Iâm sitting,â the jaguar hybrid used the back of his hand to gently check the temperature of her cheek, just over the spot he had kissed not five minutes prior. What in the world was coming over him? âSo cute!â
âWow. Youâre turning out to be quite the charmer, arenât you?â Y/N murmured, so discombobulated and dazzled that she forgot all about the task at handâ tending to the trick-or-treaters, six of which were shuffling up the walkway oohing and ahhing at the decor scattered about the front yard and decked about the porch.Â
âI think the amount of kids will start to thin out soon, since itâs getting later in the night. Kids have bedtimes, especially on school nights, right?â Seokjin went back to normal conversation, as if he didnât flirt with her like a seasoned Casanova.Â
âEh? Oh, yeah, it is⌠and itâs almost dinner time, too,â Y/N snapped back to reality, watching Seokjin do his little tossing game with the kids crowding around the porch. âYouâre good with kids, Seokjin. They love you.â
At last, she managed to make Seokjin blush, his ears fluttering and pointed incisors biting down on his pillowy lower lip. For the following forty-five minutes, they passed out candy to some older children who had later bedtimes, until Yoongi poked his head outside to announce that the food was all heated up, her arm still linked with Seokjin the entire time. As they got up to go inside, finally separating, Y/N noticed that Seokjin had refilled the plastic cauldron with more candy and left it on the porch step for remaining visitors.Â
October seemingly came and went, and frosty, gray November was settling over the city of Boston and the town her and her hybrids lived in. Leaves on the trees had almost completely fallen off every tree in the front and back yard, which Y/N had a blast (for once) raking up with the help of some of her housemates. After a little over two months of adopting all of her hybrids, everyone settled into a normal, functional routine. While it could certainly be hecticâ between keeping track of basketball games, track meets, the odd photography expo, transporting everyone where they needed to be, and juggling her job, household duties, and renovations on top of all of thatâ it was lovely to have companionship and fulfilling purpose.Â
Mid-November one morning, when Y/N woke up to the grass outside crystalized with sparkling frost and darkened skies; she dressed as warmly as she could, relishing in the day off from work. All she had on the agenda that day was baking and cooking with Yoongi, and in the afternoon, helping Jimin out with the arrivals of two horses that were ready to be boarded for the upcoming winter.Â
The hallway into the foyer was noticeably brisk, and Y/N cursed as she turned up the thermostat by her bedroom door. Cringing, the loud hum of the heating system broke the quiet ambiance of the morning, and she resumed her shuffle down the hallway with her arms wrapped around her sweater-clad middle.Â
Orange light spilled out into the hallway from Namjoonâs open door. He usually kept it open, Y/N wasnât quite sure why, but it seemed he was up and about already. Y/N figured he would have moved into his trailer full time after his birthday, but her hypothesis was proven wrong, he hadnât. In fact, the wolf hybrid hadnât even taken it out of the driveway since September, and really only disappeared into the vehicle a few times a week to retrieve books and bring them back into the house.Â
Peering into the room, she saw Namjoon sitting at his desk dressed in his rose colored thermal, taking notes from a tattered chess strategy book with the board her mother got him for his birthday neatly set up off to the side. He had yet to take her up on her offer to play with him, Y/N assuming he was trying to absorb every rule and trick he could beforehand.Â
âMorning, Joon,â Y/N greeted softly, hesitant to break his concentration. Over the past couple of months, she had gathered that he wasnât exactly receptive to conversation when he was focused on reading. She knew, though, that he was listening and aware that she was in his doorway; his silver ears twitching with every minute movement she made.
At once, he set his fountain pen down, lifting his head from the palm he was resting his forehead in, concentration clearing from his eyes.Â
âMorning. You have the day off?â Namjoon cleared his throat, voice thick and gravelly as if it was the first time he had spoken that morningâ and likely, it was.Â
âUh-huh. Tuesdays I have off, remember? What are you up to today? Want to play a match later tonight?â Y/N gestured towards his notes and the pristine board sitting beside him, leaning her hip against the threshold of his door. âWe can bring the board out to the parlor, and put it on the table in front of the fireplace. That way weâll have good lighting!â
âAlright, sure. That sounds nice,â Namjoon allowed himself to smile a little, the gesture indenting dimples into the apples of his cheeks. âI think breakfast is ready, and I heard Jimin asking for you in the kitchen not too long ago.â
That was Namjoonâs code for âget out, I want to keep readingâ, though Y/N didnât mind. The warm, enticing smell of sausage and hash browns had her stomach growling loudly, Namjoon staring pointedly at her stomach. With that, she smirked at the wolf hybrid, leaving him to his note taking and skipping to the parlor, despite the strong desire to bolt immediately into the kitchen.Â
She stopped short, however, when she noticed the task she wanted to complete had already been taken care ofâ a tall, roaring fire crackling away in the fireplace. Stoking it with a fire poker was Taehyung, an emerald green flannel covering his back and a black beanie pulled over his wild curls. Taehyung wasnât typically an early riser, so his presence made her giddy.Â
âOh, thanks, Tae! I was just going to do that,â Y/N approached him, using her arm to squeeze him into her side by his waist. Taehyung, like Seokjin and Yoongi, was quite affectionate, so she had grown used to giving out constant hugs and pats throughout the day. âI think itâs going to be a cold winter. I better stock up on firewood.â
âWhy donât you just let me chop it? Thatâs what I used to do all day, you know,â Taehyung replied with a slight groan, though lowering his head so he could bury his nose into the crown of her head.Â
She thought it was a little strange, at first, how Taehyung often liked to smell her hair, but she had noticed that Jimin had also exhibited the same behavior, so she wrote it off as just an instinctual hybrid mannerism. In only two months, she had become extremely comfortable with her personal space being explored and invaded.Â
âBut thereâs one of our neighbors who sells it by the bundle! That way you donât have to be out in the cold,â Y/N countered. Truthfully, she felt way too bad to have Taehyung resume a type of labor he had been exploited for in the past, but she didnât want to come out and exactly tell him that.Â
âY/N, youâre being stubborn. It gives me something to do, and you shouldnât have to pay for wood that you can gather around the back yard for free. Just let me chop the wood,â Taehyung pushed her away by her shoulders, getting down low so he could make level eye contact with her. As always, it was an intense experience, and she quickly looked away before she could drown in the garnet depths of his gaze.Â
âI know if I say no, youâre still going to do it anyways. As long as you dress warmly, okay?â Y/N relented, using the sleeve of his flannel to drag him to the kitchen for some breakfast.Â
The kitchen was brightly lit, as always, and the lights starkly contrasted the dark morning, making Y/Nâs eyes hurt. Jimin, with his mug of coffeeâ one with a moose on it, his favorite, Y/N presumedâ was sitting at the breakfast nook with a newspaper like an old man. He looked incredibly ready to tackle his day; freshly showered, dressed in his blue jeans, a tee shirt, and his new heavy-duty leather jacket Y/N had ordered him for his long hours outside.Â
Predictably, Yoongi was cooking, in his pajamas and cheeks still puffy from sleep. Y/Nâs coffee was waiting for her on the island, always with the perfect ratio of cream to sugar. It appeared that Yoongi was making a giant vat of scrambled eggsâ something that was on a heavy rotation for breakfast lately since Yoongi discovered Anthony Bourdainâs recipe for them.
His hair was getting even longer these days, falling forward into his face and feathering around his neck, and Y/N was harboring a secret desire to try different hairstyles on him, especially when they were watching movies together at night. Yoongi, more than the others, was a big fan of his hair being played with; and usually grabbed her hand to card through the silky locks, and she now had the duty of putting it up before his basketball games.Â
âIâm starving,â Y/N sighed, now behind Yoongi at the stove, hooking her chin over his shoulder to watch him sprinkle chopped chives into the scrambled eggs. âSmells so good. Weâre lucky to have you, Yoongi.â
âDonât butter me up. You still need to study the circle of fifths later,â Yoongi glanced backwards at her, his âserious teacherâ expression on his face. For the past few weeks, his piano lessons have involved a lot more music theory than anything else, and it nearly bored her to tearsâ no matter how important it was to becoming a better player. The latest lesson, tackling the circle of fifths, she swore was harder than veterinarian school.Â
âYou never let me off the hook, do you, sir?â Y/N saluted him like a soldier, watching his eyes roll back into his skull and his spotted tail whacking the side of her thigh.Â
âGood morning Y/N!â Seokjinâs happy voice filled the kitchenâ apparently, he had been in the pantry the whole time. âGuess what?â
Ditching Yoongi, she joined Seokjin, who was eagerly bouncing on the balls of his feet by the oven, two plaid oven mitts on his hands. He grinned from ear to ear, tail swishing back and forth with excitement. Lately, Seokjin had been doing a little more experimenting in the kitchen, following Youtube tutorials and starting off with simple recipes, mostly side dishes.Â
âWhatâs that?â Y/N reached up to his broad chest, dusting off a sprinkle of flour across the black tee shirt he was wearing, curious as to what he had made this time. Whenever heâd make something new, she had to be the first to see and try it. âYou know what? Maybe I should sign you and Yoongi up for Masterchef.â
âDonât do that. We both suck under pressure,â Yoongi immediately responded from the stove, transferring the eggs into a large casserole dish. âThey definitely donât take hybrids as contestants, anyways.â
Seokjin made a feline noise of annoyance, shooting Yoongi a dirty look, before he softened and opened up the oven carefully, Y/N waiting to see what he presented her. Seokjin had only ever made tapas-style dishes, easy to execute, so she was curious to see what he was going to pull from the oven.Â
âNo way! Jin, you made bread?â Y/Nâs jaw was hanging loose, the jaguar hybrid taking a perfect boule of sourdough out on a sheet pan. Bread was something she hadnât even attempted to make yet, and here Seokjin was, with a loaf that looked like it came from a prestigious bakery. âDonât you need to make some sort of starter a week or so in advance?â
âYeah, didnât you notice that jar of sludge over on the coffee bar the past seven days?â Yoongi pointed to a mason jar that looked like a science project sitting by the coffee maker. Truthfully, since Yoongi usually made her coffee for her every morning, she rarely found herself in front of the carafe.Â
âNoâŚâ Y/N mumbled, slightly abashed, Yoongi tutting at her and using a spatula to flip over some hash browns in a cast iron skillet. âI canât even remember the last time I made my own coffee, to be fair!â
âHmph. I think I spoil you too much,â Yoongi sighed with a shake of his head, so quietly that Y/N almost missed it.Â
Her mouth dropped open to deny the accusation, mostly because there was nothing she wanted less than Yoongi to stop giving her princess treatment, but a sturdy grip on her chin turning her head away had thoughts clearing from her mind in an instant. Finding the vibrant flame-colored eyes boring roguishly into her face, she blinked, a chunk of warm bread pushed between her puckered lips, Seokjin lightly squeezing her jaw in his grasp to keep her mouth pried open.Â
âHow is it?â Seokjin cocked his head, thumb and forefinger stroking the hinges of her jaw as if to encourage chewing.Â
Y/N did so numbly, finding it impossible to look away, while still somehow managing to actually taste the delicious bread he had tossed into her gaping mouth. Under her nose, he had even buttered the chunk of bread while she was preoccupied by Yoongiâs teasing, the rich fattiness of the butter complimenting the full-bodied flavor of the sourdough. It was the best bread she had tasted in years, putting the local bakery in the town square to shame. The fact that it was his first time baking something like that and having it turn out heavenly was frankly unfair.Â
âSeokjin, itâs fucking delicious,â Y/N announced after a thick swallow, her tastebuds already begging for another slice. With a satisfied purr, Seokjin released her jawâ which she didnât even realize he was still grippingâ his human ears turning pink and the jaguar ones fluttering in delight. âSeriously. I might eat that whole loaf.â
âJinnie, cut me a slice! Feed me, too!â Hoseok strolled into the room, wearing a red tracksuit and his hair a little sweaty from a likely morning workout.Â
Y/N did end up having her little chat with Hoseok about the whole âfavoritismâ thing, which he felt badly about once she was able to have a moment alone with him. During an afternoon of trying out a yoga video on Youtube together, they talked about it at length. While it was awkward and uncomfortable at first, as always she left conversations with Hoseok with a stomach cramping from too much laughter and a certain, fresh outlook on life. Since then, heâd promptly gone back to his normal, clever and upbeat self; and things between him and Jeongguk had been patched up as if nothing had ever occurred.Â
âOnly if you say please,â Seokjin retorted, giving Y/N a little pat on the top of her head as he began to slice a slab of bread for the fox hybrid.Â
It seemed with each passing day, the extreme shyness that Seokjin had once hid himself behind was melting away, and his personality was turning out to be a lot more teasing and sly than Y/N originally thought. The blossoming of some of his extroverted tendencies had made sense of why Seokjin and Hoseok had formulated a close bond so quickly at the shelter. Hoseok must have sniffed out the underlying troublemaker in the jaguar hybrid.Â
âHeh. Please,â Hoseok drew out his plea obnoxiously, hungrily watching Seokjin spread a thick smear of butter over the bread, an amused smirk on the fox hybridâs face.Â
With that, Seokjin leaned over the island, sticking the sliced bread into Hoseokâs mouth, a squeaky laugh shaking his broad shoulder as Hoseok groaned pleasurably and dramatically.Â
Hoseokâs next quip was around a mouthful of bread and a generous amount of butter. âWho woulda thought you were so demanding of manners, Jinnie?â
Seokjin sliced up the rest of his sourdough to be toasted with breakfast, a content simper on his face, Y/N finding her way to the breakfast nook in order to escape any more touches from Seokjin that had heat curling in her gut. Under Jiminâs watchful eye, and at times his reproachfulness towards the other hybrids, she knew no one else would try and tease her in his presence. Taehyung, who had been lurking around the coffee bar making himself some kind of iced, sugary concoction, slid into the booth beside her, sandwiching Y/N between him and Jimin.Â
âHey, Tae, if youâre going to be outside today for the firewood, do you mind helping Jimin and I out with the horses thatâll be dropped off around noon? It might be better to have another pair of hands. I believe two, maybe three are being brought over,â Y/N sipped her coffee indulgently, letting it heat up her insides.Â
With the mention of his name and their shared task for that afternoon, Jiminâs ears perked up immediately and he set his newspaper down. Tae gave her a thumbs-up, whipped cream coating his upper lip from his drink, Y/N noting how he looked 100% human with his beanie on, his rounded ears hidden beneath.Â
âWhat are horses' names, again, Y/N?â Jimin accepted a plate of breakfast food from Yoongi with a polite nod, the leopard hybrid placing a second one heaped with outrageous portions in front of Y/N. Y/N had an inkling that Yoongiâs love language was making sure she was always well fed.Â
âBlue, Oliver, and possibly Willow, if her owners can make it today,â Y/N recalled, her eyes to the ceiling to pull the information out of her brain. Though she was once a veterinarian and often treated horses, taking care of so many that lived in her backyard full-time was sort of intimidating. It was lucky that she could heavily rely on Jimin, who was at home almost always, and grew up taking care of horses specifically.Â
Sneaking a peek at the coyote hybrid beside her, who was the picture of anticipation scanning the backyard through the picture window behind the breakfast nook, she melted in her seat like a pat of butter in a scorching pan. Jimin was a striking combination of delicately beautiful and ruggedly handsome, and quite frankly Y/N found it unjust. To her, it was wrong that someone could be simultaneously runway material and dripping with inherent brawniness.Â
Additionally, the sort of romantic dreaminess that Jimin often displayed in his actions (unbeknownst to him, Y/N believed) practically made him into a Jane Austen hero that walked off of the weathered pages and into her reality. It was extremely difficult not to fall for the coyote hybrid, and Y/N spent a good chunk of her time trying to grapple with that whenever she hung out with him in the stable. A man who was gentle and caring towards animals was certainly high up on her wishlist for a lover.Â
âAlright. Everything is all set in the stalls, I put hay in three of the vacant ones this morning just in case,â Jimin grinned at Y/N, as if he could read her mind and see the thirsty thoughts floating around in her skull. Hastily covering up her guilt, she took a scalding swig of her coffee, wincing at the sear in her esophagus.Â
âEat up, Y/N. The eggs taste like shit when theyâre cold,â Yoongi interrupted her coughing fit, his eyes narrowed from his spot by the sink, Y/N unaware he was even monitoring her. There was an odd look on his face, his fine features shadowy, lips downturned at the corners, and his ears twitching in agitation. Okay?
Obediently, Y/N worked through her comically large plate of breakfast, giggling at Hoseok and Seokjin teasing each other at the island, their jabs at each other filling the kitchen with a little sunshine despite Yoongiâs sudden storminess. Sheâd have to ask what was up with him later, when they cooked dinner together.Â
âOh, sheâs beautiful, Mr. Orlov! Iâm so glad you could bring her today. Weâll take great care of her,â Y/N stroked Willow, a dapple gray, gently on her strong neck, admiring how soft her coat was. Mr. Orlov was a good friend of her grandfatherâs, a Russian immigrant, and was planning on spending the winter in Arizona with his wife.Â
âIâm sure you will. Your grandfather spoke highly of the young man who will be helping you. A former ranger hybrid, no?â Mr. Orlov asked in his thick accent, walking beside Y/N and his horse with his hands clasped behind his back.Â
Though it was the forth time she was escorting a horse through her backyard towards the stable, she still found it a bit funny to do so, especially without Jimin. He was busy in the stable already, tending to the two new horses and his own.Â
âYes, Jimin worked at the Yellowstone ranch, so heâs very experienced. He even used to train horses! Iâm really fortunate to have him, he was able to fix up the old stable in the blink of an eyeâŚâ Y/N took the opportunity to gush about Jimin, soothingly patting Willow as she became a little skittish with the sounds of splitting wood off into the distance.Â
âIt is nice to know Willow will be close to home while I am away,â Mr. Orlovâs crystal blue eyes scanned the backyard for the source of the sound growing in volume. âIs that him?â
Taehyung, with his flannel tied around his waist and in a sweat-dampened white tee shirt, was by the little woodshed several yards away from the stable, an ax in hand and a neat pile of firewood beside the block he was chopping on. Mouth drying up at the sight, the sheer strength Taehyung possessed in being able to split a thick chunk of wood in one fell swoop, Y/N shook her head distractedly.Â
âNo, thatâs Taehyung, another one of my hybrids,â Y/N gave Taehyung a weak wave when his head whipped up upon hearing his name coming from her lips. He adjusted the beanie on the top of his head, blinking at her stoically, returning to his task. Y/N had the feeling he was aware she was peeved he was only in a tee shirt in fifty degree weather. âJimin is in the stable.â
âThatâs him?â Mr. Orlov pointed towards the chicken coop, where Seokjin was shaking out a bag of feed with the birds pecking around his feet.Â
âUh, no, thatâs not him either,â Y/N chuckled sheepishly. She wondered if her grandfather had told Mr. Orlov just how many hybrids lived with her. It was the sort of thing that tended to be a bombshell dropping during conversations with curious strangers. âJust through here, letâs bring Willow inside and see how she likes her new digs!â
Mr. Orlov politely waved at Seokjin, who had a chicken tucked under his arm. Due to the colors of the feathers, Y/N could tell it was Sableâ her and Jimin had named all of the chickensâ the hen that was greediest with the food and often ate more than her share. Chuckling at the bird struggling to free herself from Seokjinâs arms, Y/N slowly led Willow and Mr. Orlov into the stable, which was lit up nicely and immaculately swept clean.Â
âAh, gorgeous. You fixed up this place very well, I remember what it looked like last winter,â Mr. Orlov took a look around, Jimin appearing from one of the stalls with a wide grin that made his eyes narrow into slits.Â
Probably sensing that Y/N was in need of more experienced hands to take over horse duty, he hurried over, hands already extendedâ one to shake Mr. Orlovâs hand, another to take the reins from Y/Nâs clammy fist. Relieved, she took a few steps away from Willow, watching Jimin lead the horse and her owner to a free stall, one next to Vista, Jiminâs own horse. Y/N noticed the ground of the stable was a bit wet, the scent of shampoo slightly perfuming the air from when Jimin had given Vista a bath earlier that afternoon.Â
She let Jimin handle himself and take over answering any questions Mr. Orlov had about the stable and how theyâd care for Willow. Truthfully, she would just be awkwardly standing there while they chatted, and Jimin could definitely handle talking to Mr. Orlov himself, so she gave Vista a soft pat on her nose before heading back outside to see if Seokjin had gotten his arms pecked bloody.Â
When she left the stable, Seokjin was already gone. It was kind of brisk outside, and since Seokjin was not a fan of chilly weather, she figured he had gone back inside as soon as he fed the chickens to warm up by the fire. Taehyung was still busy chopping wood, and Y/N realized that he had found an old portable CD player and was listening to something as he worked, the old headphones he typically plugged into the turntable attached to the device clipped to the belt loop of his jeans. He still somehow managed to hear her as she walked towards the house, even with the music playingâ or perhaps he caught a whiff of her. Either way, he gave her a closed-mouth smile, sweat collecting along where his beanie met his forehead.Â
Y/Nâs phone began to ring in her pocket, making her pause and plop down onto a lounge chair on the patio beside the kitchen door. The caller ID showed a picture of Ben from college, drunk and eating ramen with a fork.Â
âHey Ben! Whatâs up?â Y/N picked at her cuticles, which were unfortunately drying out due to the change in seasons.Â
âSame old, Roy just took Daisy to the grocery store. She wanted spaghetti for dinner, and we were fresh out.â Ben sounded like he was bustling around his kitchen, pots and pans clanging together. âHowâve you been? Didnât you say there were some people dropping off horses at your place today?â
âYeah, three of them got dropped off today. You should see Jimin, heâs so happy,â Y/N felt warm fuzziness envelop her, imagining the radiance of Jiminâs joy in her mind. âIâve been really good lately. I finally feel like the routines are making sense and flowing.â
âThatâs a relief. You were running around like a headless chicken for a few weeks there,â Ben chuckled. âSpeaking of chickens. Do you think I could get some eggs from you sometime this week? The last batch was awesome.â
âOf course! We have more eggs than we know what to do with, even with Hoseok boiling so many for his pre-practice snack,â Y/N snuck a peek into the kitchen slider, hoping to see Yoongi in there waiting for her to join him. However, no one seemed to be in the kitchen, which was highly unusualâ all of the boys were prone to constant snacking. âIs that why you called? For more eggs?â
Y/N was teasing, but Ben texted her most of the time to catch up. When heâd call her, it was typically because he had something important to say.Â
âNo, actually. I have some news for you,â Ben cleared his throat, tone becoming more serious. âItâs about Hannah. She won her case this afternoon, and someone has already requested to adopt her. Sheâs out of Cirque Mystique.â
Y/N fell silent, heart pounding quickly in her chest. She hadnât talked to Seokjin about what she had found out about Hannah yet, wanting to wait and see how her trial went before getting his hopes up that she had been freed from the circus. Now that Hannah was free, Y/N was suddenly stumped on how to bring it up to Seokjin. Since their chat about Hannah and the circus, the jaguar hybrid had not brought up the subject again. Part of Y/N wondered if he thought she forgot about it, since the conversation happened weeks agoâ the thought making her heart squeeze.Â
âHello? Earth to Y/N, did I cut out?â Ben whistled on the other end of the receiver, Y/N squeaking once she realized she had zoned out with him still on the line.Â
âNo, no, I heard you! Thatâs really great news, you said someone wants to adopt her?â Y/N recovered, watching Jimin escort Mr. Orlov back to his car in the distance.Â
âThe public defender who represented her, actually. I know the woman, sheâs wanted to adopt a hybrid for a while, sheâs extremely nice. Actually, she just decided to move to Upstate New York, more clients around there, more nature, et cetera. So her and Hannah will be moving at the end of the month, when the adoption goes through. I guess they really bonded over the course of the trial, Hannah felt safe with her,â Ben explained, Y/N trying her best to process all of this new information. âAnd I know what youâre thinking. You were probably itching to adopt Hannah for Seokjin, but seven hybrids is already a handful for you, Y/N. This is a good thing.â
Lifting her eyebrows, she considered Benâs accusation. Honestly, she wasnât even close to thinking about adopting Hannahâ Ben was right, seven hybrids was more than enough to keep her on her toes, an eighth would send her straight over the edge of sanity. Besides, adding another hybrid to the house was a recipe for throwing the carefully constructed balance she had created between her seven boys off kilter.Â
âBen, I might be a little off my rocker, but Iâm not that crazy. It was difficult enough to get some of my boys to even tolerate one another, Iâm not about to disturb the peace now,â Y/N pushed a hand through her hair, wondering if there was a way she could arrange for Seokjin to meet with Hannah before she moved to New York.Â
âMm-hm, Iâm sure,â Ben replied airly, as if he didnât buy what she was saying at all. âApparently, though, Hannah was asking about Seokjin. I told my friendâ Sarah, is her name, the one adopting Hannahâ that he was with you and he was safe. I think sheâd like to see him, and I told Sarah that Iâd ask if it was alright to pass on your contact information.â
âGod, itâs like you read my mind. Thatâs totally fine, send over my number and email. Iâll definitely find time for Seokjin and I to meet up with them,â Y/N agreed, growing anxious to tell Seokjin the good news. There was no telling how heâd react, but she was hoping that it would be positive. âListen Ben, thanks for letting me know. I gotta get going though, I want to break the news to him.â
âJust as well. I have a Zoom meeting with a client in half an hour, enough time for me to finish roasting vegetables for dinner. We have to blend them into the tomato sauce to get Daisy to eat anything green, ironic for a bunny hybrid,â Ben bid Y/N goodbye, hanging up with a curse as it sounded like he may have burned himself on a hot pan. Benâs cooking skills were never really something to write home about.Â
Shivering, eyes trailing after Jimin making haste back across the yard to the stable, Y/N took a calming, deep breath as if to steel herself. Strangely enough, she was becoming nervous to talk to Seokjin, which was unnerving and even a little alarming. Gnawing on her lip, she tried to swallow down the anxiety, pulling her sweater closer around her body and finding her way back into the house.Â
Y/Nâs anxiety subsided monumentally as soon as she found Seokjin. He had made himself comfortable in the parlor, arguably the warmest room in the house, wrapped up in a throw blanket with the fireplace alight and his attention on the cooking channel. Without a word, Y/N took a seat beside the jaguar hybrid, his chest rumbling with purrs as she squirmed into a suitable position. In amicable silence, Y/N defrosted next to Seokjin for several moments, humming softly when he peeled back a corner of his blanket to pull it over Y/N, as well.Â
âYou shouldnât spend so much time outside when the weather is like this. Youâll catch a cold,â Seokjin murmured after a while, eyes focused on Gordon Ramsay demonstrating how to cook the perfect duck entree. He attempted to put off nonchalance, but his eyebrows were knitted and Y/N could tell he was slightly admonishing her.Â
âFor someone born in December, you sure hate the winter, huh, Seokjinnie?â Y/N deflected, naturally scooching closer to his elevated body heat. It was nice that the hybrids were such warm beings, perfect to cuddle up to. âSpeaking of, have you found a place youâd be interested in going to eat for your birthday?â
Y/N knew that she was beating around the bush, but her brain was still trying to come up with a way to bring up what she had discovered about Hannah. Luckily, it seemed that the rest of her hybrids were either outside or holed up in their bedrooms doing their own thing. She swore she had heard Yoongi on the piano when she had come inside, a familiar tune he often played but never directly in front of her, but the music had stopped abruptly as soon as she sought out Seokjin.Â
Grumbling, Seokjin didnât seem to like her obvious change in subject and disregard for his fretting, but his features softened as he finally cast a look downwards at her. He pulled his phone out from under the blanket, tapping away on the internet browser with determination, before holding the phone out in front of Y/Nâs face, his lower lip tucked between his teeth.Â
âOh! Ramsayâs Kitchen? As in Gordon Ramsay? Thereâs one of those in Boston? I suppose I shouldnât be surprised, he is a household name around here,â Y/N gingerly took Seokjinâs phone from him, flicking through the websiteâs gallery.Â
Seokjin didnât say anything, his cheeks a little pink as he watched Y/N check out the website, his ears dropping down sideways as if she was going to tell him they couldnât go or something.Â
âMmm⌠the menu looks delicious. Hey, your birthday falls on a Sunday, so we could go to brunchâ only if you want! We can go any time, really. Itâs entirely up to you, itâs your day, after all,â Y/N passed Seokjinâs phone back to him, the jaguar hybrid pulling his teeth from his lip, blood rushing to the flesh and making his mouth look even more tempting than ever.Â
âNo, brunch is perfect! Thereâs more to choose from on the menu, for brunch. Are you sure we can go there? You donât mind driving into the city?â Seokjinâs eyebrows shot up into his hairline, blinking harshly at her like he had sand in his eyes.Â
âThe drive is nothing. Itâll only take us like half an hour to get there, donât worry about that. Want me to make a reservation? I think itâs probably wise considering Ramsayâs popularityâŚâ
âI can do it,â Seokjin assured, already looking for the page to reserve a table. âDo you think everyone else will come along?â
âDo you want them to?â Y/N cocked her head, speaking cautiously. Perhaps he only wanted to go with her and Hoseok?
âI mean, whoever wants to come can tag along. I donât mind,â Seokjin mumbled quietly, fingers hesitating on the drop-down menu that asked how many would be in their party.Â
âUh, why donât you just reserve a table for eight, and if anything changes, Iâll give the restaurant a call. Okay?â Y/N made a mental note to convince everyone to join in for brunch, even the ones who tended to be late risers, because as much as Seokjin was trying to appear neutral, she could tell he secretly wanted everyone to be present. Whether or not his reasoning was so he could try more menu items, Y/N didnât know.Â
They lapsed back into silence for a bit, Seokjin finishing up the reservation form and the both of them watching Kitchen Nightmares with the occasional shared giggle. The mid-afternoon light was beginning to wane, filling the parlor with blue light, the fireplace offering a dim, homey glow.Â
âSeokjin, I have some news for you,â Y/N spoke up abruptly during a commercial break, unable to hold information back anymore. Besides, sheâd have to get going on dinner in a bit with Yoongi, and she promised the leopard hybrid that theyâd bake something for dessert together, too.Â
Reaching forward, she lowered the volume of the television, twisting her body and curling her legs to the side so she could face Seokjin fully. Able to sense her change in demeanor, serious and full of purpose, Seokjin promptly tore his attention from the TV, a quizzical look on his beautiful face, his nose slightly twitching.Â
âSo, remember a while ago, when we talked about Cirque Mystique, and I said Iâd have Ben look around for some information?â Y/N dove in headfirst, deciding that she had been stalling for far too long.Â
Watching the color drain from Seokjinâs face, he went rather still, even the constant twitch of his ears had paused in their movement. Not wanting him to think she had bad news, she reached for his hands under their shared blanket, the feeling of his crooked fingers slotting against hers boosting her confidence.Â
âHannah is fine,â Y/N assured at once, Seokjinâs mouth dropping open and his loose grip on her hands squeezing weakly. âBenâs public defender friend, Sarah, actually represented Hannah in a negligence case against the circus. Hannah won her case, and she doesnât have to work in the company anymore.â
âSheâs free?â Seokjin breathed, his face still extremely pale and his Adamâs apple bobbing as he swallowed repeatedly, like he was trying to lubricate a dry throat.Â
âSheâs free,â Y/N confirmed, smiling wistfully as tears began to gather along Seokjinâs lower lash line. The sight had her heart absolutely breaking in her chest. âIn fact, Sarah has requested to adopt her. Sheâll be safe, living in a loving home. Ben said that Sarah and Hannah had bonded over the course of her trial, so I think this was the best possible outcome for Hannah.â
Seokjin began to process what she had revealed to him, periodically clutching Y/Nâs hands in small pulses as his wide eyes flitted from each of hers, as if to detect any deceit. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, apparently at a loss for any kind of response, but Y/N let him take his time to sort out his emotions as she clung to his hands for dear life.Â
âSo⌠sheâs going to be adopted,â Seokjin spoke barely above a whisper, releasing one of Y/Nâs hands to use the inside of his wrist to dab away at his watery lash line. âThatâs good. Sheâs not hurt?â
âNo, sheâs not hurt. Ben said she only sustained minor injuries, but those have definitely healed up by now,â Y/N was trying not to read too much into Seokjinâs reaction to the newsâ Hannah seemed to mean a whole lot more to Seokjin than Y/N had originally thought. An itchy, uncomfortable sensation began to bloom in her gut. Was it selfish to be jealous of Hannah? Probably, but it was near impossible to squash it down.Â
Regaining his sense of self, Seokjin clumsily lurched forward, the blanket around them falling around their waists as he crushed Y/N in a fierce hug. His entire body crooked over her, and his wide shoulders did a good job of caging her in and shielding her from the world. Hands trapped between their chests pressed flush together, Y/N could only wind her fingertips into the fabric of Seokjinâs black tee shirt, breathing stuttered as Seokjin clutched her and shoved his face into her neck. The fabric making up the collar of her sweater was growing a bit damp, and Y/N realized Seokjin had allowed tears to fall freely down his cheeks, soaking into her top.
âShh, itâs alright,â Y/N whispered, able to free one of her hands so she could smooth her palm down the back of Seokjinâs wavy head of raven hair. Shoulders slightly shaking, Seokjin pressed closer to her, almost forcing Y/N into his lap. âSheâs going to be alright. Would you like to see her? Sarah said that Hannah was wondering about you, once she found out you were here with me.â
Pulling himself together slightly, Seokjin nodded into the crook of her neck, sniffling a little as Y/Nâs previous jealousy melted away into concern for the jaguar hybrid. Still raking her fingers through his hair, she accidentally grazed the shell of his rounded, silky ear, a choked noise coming from Seokjin as he shuddered at the swift contact, his body becoming totally slack against her. Muttering a whoops, sorry, Y/N held onto Seokjin for a few more moments, her cheeks burning, before carefully maneuvering him off of her so she could assess his expression.Â
âOh, Seokjin⌠I didnât mean to make you cry, honey,â Y/Nâs throat was growing thick, the image of tears tracking down Seokjinâs face nearly unbearable to witness. Reaching up, she used her thumbs to tenderly brush away stray tears, Seokjin leaning into the touch and offering a weak smile. âI told Ben to give Sarah my information. As soon as she reaches out to me, we can make a plan. Thereâs one more thingâŚâ
Seokjin shook his head, in order to encourage Y/N to continue talking even while he was overcome with emotion, trying his hardest to compose himself, his hands coming up to rub at his biceps self-consciously.Â
âSo, apparently Sarah is planning on moving to Upstate New York with Hannah, as soon as the adoption is finalized. Of course, we can visit whenever youâd like, but I just thought you should know that, as well,â Y/N now found it hard to look Seokjin dead in the eyes, her fingers fiddling with a stray thread poking out of the throw blanket tossed haphazardly across her lap.Â
âNew York? She⌠Hannah always wanted to live there,â Seokjin croaked, though a warmhearted beam began to grow on his face. Again, the itchy feeling in her gut returned, and Y/N felt overwhelming guilt flood through her.Â
âSheâll love it there, Iâm sure!â Y/N cheered, desperately hoping he couldnât smell the emotions that were eating her alive only inches away from him. Shit, she was in deeper than she thought. âC-can⌠can I ask? How long have you known Hannah?â
Seokjin froze, scanning her face quietly, his friendly expression still in place but the barest hint of caution glazing over the set of his mouth. Immediately regretting her question, wishing she could stuff the words back into her trap and swallow them whole, Y/N began to wave her hands and chuckle everything off.Â
âJesus. Sorry, none of my businessââ
âIâve known her for about six, almost seven years. Itâs okay, you can ask,â Seokjin gave Y/N a gentle pat on the back of her hand, likely noticing her picking at the loose blanket thread nervously. âShe was brought into the company a couple of years after me. I had several friends in the company, but Hannah I felt closer to than anyone else.â
Digesting this, Y/N began to imagine what Hannah might have looked like, and how she acted. For Seokjin to speak so highly of herâ and care so deeply for her wellbeingâ she must have been an incredible person.Â
âAh, you might think this is âcornyâ, like when we watch those romance dramas with Hoseok and Jimin, but, um,â Seokjin made goofy air-quotes, his teeth coming down to chew on his lower lip once more. âBut you know how those dramas often have a particular trope? Well, Hannahâ I guess you could sayâ she was my âfirst loveâ.â
Then, Y/Nâs ears began to ring loudly. Staring at the jaguar hybrid like he had just told her he planted a bomb in their basement, she took a split second to recover, once again chuckling like an idiot. The concept of oneâs âfirst loveâ, as cheesy as it could be in dramas and novels, was nothing to laugh about, however. Often, the âfirst loveâ stuck around in someoneâs heart until the day they died.
âF-first love?â Y/N squeaked, and it dawned on her that she, herself, never experienced such a thing, so there was no way she could put herself in Seokjinâs shoes. âAre you stillâŚ?â
âIn love? God, no,â Seokjin caught on to the unsaid, ever the perceptive one. âWe realized early on we were better as friends, rather than lovers. Sheâs just a dear friend to me, now.â
Expecting to be placated upon hearing those words, Y/Nâs brain was still chanting âshe was my first loveâ in Seokjinâs voice over and over in a loop like the creepy robed dudes in Eyes Wide Shut. All she could do was plaster a hopefully convincing impartial expression on her face, wishing another hybrid would bumble into the parlor and save her from her self-imposed humiliation.
âOh! Um, well, itâll be really nice to see her, huh? Sarah will probably contact me any day now, so weâll set everything up, honey,â Y/N cleared her throat, praying her words didnât come out like she was spitting them through her teeth.Â
Y/N was engulfed in another organ-crushing hug, Seokjin thanking her profusely for finding out about Hannah for him, and swearing that heâll have to bake some bread for Ben and his family to thank him as well. Nuzzling into his eucalyptus scented chest, Y/N concentrated on getting over herself; it wasnât fair that she was letting her growing feelings for Seokjin get in the way of his relationship between him and his longtime friendâ and former lover, she mentally added, bitterly so. She was only soothed by the gentle purring vibrating from Seokjin, the heavy weight of his tail wrapping around her hips.Â
When she broke free after several moments, the tip of Seokjinâs nose pink, he announced that he wanted to clean up and take a shower before dinner, but Y/N suspected he was a touch embarrassed for crying in front of her. As he stood, he doubled back, planting a kiss on her forehead swiftly before scurrying out of the room like he was on fire. Reeling, Y/N sat statue still for the length of three commercials, attempting to unpack everything she had just experienced, until she broke free from Seokjinâs spell and switched off the television.Â
âYoongi? Angel, where are you?â Y/N had been milling around the house for thirty minutes trying to find her leopard hybrid so they could start on the dough for the cookies they were planning to make.Â
She elected to freshen up after her conversation with Seokjin and showered, changing into some leisure wear. Y/N had already checked up on Namjoon, who was busy readingâ she encouraged him to set up the chessboard in the parlor for later, but he claimed he wanted to finish reading the next few chapters of his book club selection, so she didnât push him.Â
Meanwhile, Hoseok had left her a sticky note on the fridge that he had gone for a run around the neighborhood, something that wasnât unusual for him, Taehyung and Jimin were still outside, and she didnât typically bother Jeongguk unless she was absolutely desperate to talk to him. That left only Yoongi available for her to pester, if she could find the slippery little bastard.Â
âAngellll?â Y/N poked her head into the music room, to see if he had fallen asleep on the leather loveseat in front of the record player again. Alas, he was nowhere to be seen, and he had left all of the candles in the room lit and unoccupied. Frowning, she had run out of places to look for himâ all of his usual spots were void of his presence. There was one last place to check; his bedroom.Â
Y/N hadnât gone into Yoongiâs bedroom since she adopted him, but he had chosen one of the tower rooms, so she pivoted and started down the hall with a pout. Yoongi was never one to ignore her, and would always appear whenever sheâd call his name, so she was a little peeved.Â
âHey, Yoongi, are you in there? I thought you and I were going to bake together,â Y/N couldnât keep the whine out of her voice, and she didnât even feel ashamed about it. âYoongi, I can hear you grumbling. Let me in?â
She could picture the eye roll he was giving her from behind the wooden door to his room, but the muffled sound of sock-clad feet padding to the door had her grinning in victory. Gotcha.Â
As the door opened, Y/N was smacked in the face with the cologne-scented candle Yoongi liked to burn in his room, and she got a wider-than-usual visual of the bedroom than she would whenever sheâd drop off his clean laundry at the door. Yoongi, dressed in sweatpants and a long-sleeved white tee shirt, wordlessly stepped aside so she could enter his room.Â
âAre you avoiding me or something? I feel like I havenât seen you all day, angel!â Y/N pouted, taking a seat on his desk chair with her arms crossed. His room was quite neat, but there was sheet music strewn about on his desk, handwritten notes scrawled across the pages.Â
âNo, Iâm not avoiding you,â Yoongi similarly crossed his arms, leisurely sitting down on the foot of his bed across from her. âI practiced in the driveway for a little while with Foxy, came up here to shower, and then I planned out the next few piano lessons for you. Besides, werenât you a little preoccupied with Seokjin?â
Taken aback at Yoongiâs flat, disinterested tone, Y/N blinked at him with shock. Yoongi never spoke to her with such a tone, and it certainly caught her off guard.Â
âOkay, whatâs up with you? Did I say or do something to offend?â Y/N demanded, recalling how he had been grouchy during breakfast as well. âWait, do you need to scent? Is that it?â
âNo, Iâm fine, Y/N,â Yoongi responded quietly, looking out his window distractedly, like he couldnât meet her eyes. His long hair was messy, like he was running his hands through it all day, and his tail was flicking back and forth on the bed behind him in an agitated manner. âNothingâs wrong. Howâs Seokjin?â
âHeâs alright, why so curious all of a sudden?â
Silence. The awkward tension was entirely new between them, and it set Y/N on edge. She decided to try again.Â
âThere was something he asked me to find out about his past, I was just updating him on the news,â Y/N didnât think she should divulge much more than that to keep Seokjinâs privacy, but she also didnât want to ponder on the thought of Seokjin and Hannahâs reunion for much longer.Â
âThe past, huh?â Yoongi muttered cryptically, heaving himself off of the bed and moving so he could stand by his window overlooking the front yard, a scowl on his face.Â
Y/N really only had a few clues about Yoongiâs past; he hadnât really brought it up too many times. What he did bring up was working at the bar in Boston, with vague details, but that was all. Yoongi didnât even know that Y/N had found out about his motherâs death via his report sheet on the hybrid database, and she wasnât bringing that up at all until he did.Â
So, Y/N didnât really understand why Yoongi was being so weird. Was he hoping she was going to pry into his past? He hadnât shown interest in discussing it before, so Y/N had no reason to fish around for information and risk opening old wounds for him.Â
âYeah, the past. Seokjin had me find out about a friend of his from the circus he was a part of. Iâm sure if you ask him about it, heâll tell you,â Y/N spoke slowly, waiting for the tension to break and for him to make some kind of wisecrack.Â
âDo you remember everything from your past?â Yoongi voiced his question to the window, rather than Y/N herself, so close to the glass his breath fogged it up.Â
Y/N thought that was an odd question. Everything?Â
âI mean, I remember specific memories, if thatâs what you mean, but I donât remember every single thing that has ever happened to me,â Y/N felt like she was trying to answer some kind of riddle, and no answer would end up being correct.Â
âUgh,â Yoongi grunted, clearly not hearing what he wanted to. âOkay, let me rephrase. Has there ever been a time where youâve forgotten something or someone completely from the past, like it was erased from your mind?â
âIs this a riddle, Yoongi?â Y/N blurted, bewildered. His ears flattened against his skull, back still turned to her. âI mean, say that something like that has happened to me. How would I even know? If it was like it was erased from my mind, how would I even remember the person or the event at all?â
She felt like she was talking in circles, and she wished that Yoongi would just tell her what all of this was about. He might have been a mind reader, but she certainly wasnât.Â
âNevermind, Y/N, it doesnât matter. Come on, letâs get started on dinner,â Yoongi sighed, his shoulders drooping as he briskly left the room and Y/N sitting at his desk in confusion.Â
âJoonie, Iâm rustier than I thought,â Y/N complained, sitting across from the wolf hybrid as he kicked her ass for the second time during their chess match. He smirked, and she wanted to reach across the table and wipe that grin off of his face with her thumb. âBesides, you cheated. You read like five books on strategy. Not fair.â
âDonât be a sore loser, Y/N, darling,â Hoseok called over his shoulder, curled up on the sofa in front of the TV. While his head was turned, Y/N gave him the finger, watching the fox hybrid snort with glee at the bitter gesture.Â
âHonestly, Y/N, I really wasnât even using any of the strategies, I think you might just be terrible at chess,â Namjoon leaned back in his seat, amusement all over his handsome face.Â
She squawked in offense, pelting a pawn at his broad chest, the wooden piece hitting one of his pecs and unceremoniously clattering to the floor. Namjoon simply raised an eyebrow at her, as if to challenge her to try that again, before plucking the piece off of the floor with his elegantâ and apparently, talented, fingers.Â
It was a Friday, and it was one of the afternoons that was free of any events at the rec center. Y/N was blowing her entire paycheck from Judyâs on gas and groceries alone, but the added $3,000 she was getting monthly from boarding the horses was nicely supplementing her income. She spent the morning with Jimin, helping him give the horses baths, took a walk with Taehyung around the neighborhood to take some pictures for his clubs, and was now getting kicked in the ass by Namjoon on the chessboard. All the while, Jeongguk, Hoseok, and Seokjin were going through Quentin Tarantinoâs entire filmographyâ currently on Kill Bill.Â
âChrist, the blood is so fake looking. Did they even fucking try?â Jeongguk pointed out from his spot on the recliner, between a mouthful of popcorn Seokjin had brought out for them all.Â
âGratuitous violence, obvious fake blood. Thatâs Tarantino for you,â Y/N stood stiffly from her seat, waving an imaginary white flag. âYou win, Joonie, I give up for today. Loan me one of those strategy books, why donât you, so I can stop embarrassing myself?â
Before Namjoon could reply, Jeongguk had more commentary to offer, scoffing at the TV.Â
âTarantino. I heard heâs a fucking douche canoe,â Jeongguk stuffed more popcorn into his mouth, and Y/N had never seen him look less intimidating in her life.Â
Seokjin audibly winced at Jeonggukâs word choices, glaring at him disapprovingly. Y/N, however, had to choke down her laughter in the palm of her hand.Â
âSure he is, but he makes great movies,â Y/N agreed, making her way to the back of the sofa, soothingly giving Hoseok a light scalp scratch. Violence corny or not, the fox hybrid wasnât a huge fan of blood and guts.Â
Unfortunately for the hybrids in the parlor, Namjoon joining the others by sitting on the floor by Seokjinâs feet, Y/N had to part with them. It was about time for her weekly piano lesson, and for once, she wasnât eager for it.Â
Since that previous Tuesday, Yoongi had been acting strangely around her. He wasnât nearly as clingy as he always was, and his replies to all of her questions and comments were clipped and quite short. Honestly, it depressed her quite a bit, and she spent hours at night staring at her ceiling combing through her memories to find something that might have caused his change in demeanor.
Trudging up the stairs slowly, Y/N paused halfway up, listening to the sweet melody of the song Yoongi was currently playing on the piano. It had become her absolute favorite tune that he played, and she had a hypothesis that Yoongi might have composed it himself. Sensing her approach from the stairs, the song was cut off halfway, disappointment flooding though Y/N. She wondered why he never played it right in front of her.Â
âHi, Yoongi,â Y/N slipped into the room, promptly perching herself beside him on the piano bench. Her heart ached looking at him, purplish circles under his usually vibrant hazel eyes, as if he hadnât been getting enough sleep. âWhat are we doing today?â
âI figured we could attempt something more difficult. âSomeone Like Youâ, Adele,â Yoongi tapped on the sheet music he had printed out, missing the spark of excitement that lit up Y/Nâs face. Usually, theyâd do short tunes, nothing that one would hear on the radio. She must be improving, in his opinion.Â
Not making his usual small talk, Yoongi dove into teaching her patiently, all business. Y/N jolted whenever his foot would press over hers on the sustain pedal, so embarrassingly starved for his touch it was humiliating. She didnât know how to get back to how they were prior to that week, but she felt like she needed it more than she needed to breathe.Â
They made it up to the chorus by the time an hour had passed, and that was typically how long Yoongi would teach her before Y/Nâs wrists would get sore. Massaging them, Y/N bit her lip, watching Yoongi scrawl a note where they left off in the score, his hair hanging in his face and curtaining it from her.Â
âYoongi, whatâs that song you always play when youâre alone?â Y/N tried to get him to stay with her longer, to open up, anything. She wasnât sure if it was the right topic to bring up, but again, she was desperate.Â
Yoongi stilled, pushing hair behind his ears and finally looking her in the eye. When he could smell the melancholy coming off of her in suffocating waves, his features softened, and he felt like he could tell her anything that she wanted to know.Â
âItâs just something I play mindlessly,â Yoongi dismissed, tongue peaking out to moisten his lips. âI wrote it a long time ago.â
âI thought that you might have written it,â Y/N brightened up a little, suddenly very impressed with Yoongiâs talent. âItâs beautiful, I love it. Why donât you ever play it for me?â
Yoongi went pink, shockingly, and diverted his eyes at once. Y/N wasnât having it anymore.Â
âYoongi, can you tell me whatâs wrong? Youâve been distant all week, and if it was something I said or did, I want to make amends,â Y/N begged, her voice fraying at the endâ she felt like she was going to have a nervous breakdown at that point. âI really miss you.â
Her final utterance was soft, broken, and small. Yoongiâs head immediately whipped up, smelling the salinity of tears gathering in the corner of Y/Nâs eyes, and he suddenly felt like the worldâs biggest prick.Â
âCome here, I miss you too, sweetheart,â Yoongi broke down, pulling Y/N in for a hug by her waist, gently wrapping his arms around her middle as she swallowed down her tears. âIâm sorry, donât cry, please, donât cry because of me. Iâm an asshole.â
âNo youâre not,â Y/N sniffed into his chest, soothed by the scent of his spiced vanilla shampoo. She hadnât been close enough to smell that comforting scent in days, but it felt like a lifetime. âYouâre just stubborn. Is this about Tuesday? Your questions about me forgetting things from the past?â
âYou can just forget about it, sweetheart, really. Iâm sorry for being moody, itâs justâŚâ Yoongi trailed off, looking conflicted and pained.Â
âIâm not going to forget it, itâs clearly bothering you. Say your piece,â Y/N pulled away from Yoongi, staring at him expectantly. She wasnât letting him out of her sight until whatever was on his mind was hashed out.Â
Yoongi slouched on the bench running both hands through his hair and appearing to sort out his thoughts, perhaps figuring out where to begin.Â
âY/N, you went to school in Boston, right?â Yoongi spoke after several excruciating seconds, not waiting for her response but charging on, âI was born in Boston. Unlike most hybrids, I was born naturally, not created in a lab. My mom and I worked under the table at that bar I mentioned, The Black Lodge, remember?â
âI remember,â Y/N confirmed, having no ever-loving clue where he was going with this.Â
âSo, you never went to that bar? Think back, do you ever remember walking by it, hearing about it from someone?â Yoongi pressed, even though Y/N was almost positive she had no knowledge of that bar prior to adopting Yoongi. âIt was near Chinatown. By that basketball court you mentioned you used to pass by on your way to school.â
âNo, Iâm sorry Yoongi⌠I donât remember ever going to a bar called The Black Lodge.â
Yoongi sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose delicately and nodding to himself.Â
âI might not have gone to that bar, but honestly, Yoongi, since Iâve adopted you, I couldnât help but feel this sense of familiarity with you. Itâs the strangest thing. Have we⌠Have we met before? Is that what you meant the other day, about forgetting someone youâve met before?â
Yoongi glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, hope sparkling there. Was it true? They have met prior to that day at the shelter? Why couldnât Y/N remember it?
âMaybe,â Yoongi straightened up, apparently wanting her to piece everything together herself. Y/N was trying, despairingly so, not believing she could ever meet Yoongi and forget him in a hurry.Â
âMaybe? Yoongi, be serious, have we met before? Why canât you just tell me?â Y/N gave up her memory combing in favor of accusing Yoongi, her temper getting the best of her.Â
Yoongi stood, groaning in frustration. He strode across the room, shutting the French doors to the music room, effectively making their conversation private. For good measure, the leopard hybrid pressed down on the pin that locked them inside, to prevent interruptions. The hair on the back of Y/Nâs neck stood on end, not expecting Yoongi to act that way.Â
âThe Black Lodge, it was a fucked up place. I donât really know exactly what was wrong with it, if it was cursed, some kind of fucking portal like those losers on paranormal shows you and Jeongguk watch talk about, or if it was built on a magical tectonic plate that made it the fucked up place that it was,â Yoongi collapsed onto the leather loveseat, head tipped back as he ranted.Â
âWhat do you mean?â Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, completely lost. Any sort of paranormal subject matter was something that didnât typically interest Yoongi. He tolerated talking about it, but he wasnât one to bring it up.Â
âWhat I mean, sweetheart, is that you were there. One year ago, you were in The Black Lodge, on a Friday night, by yourself. But you canât remember, because everyone who comes into the bar forgets it as soon as they leave,â Yoongi finally revealed, his voice tired and resigned. âMe, being the fucked up exception, of course.â
A pin could drop, and it would sound like a gunshot. Y/N, who had been standing by the piano, began to feel dizzy from this confession, so she woodenly walked to the loveseat and dropped down heavily beside Yoongi. His spotted ears perked up with her movement, but he seemed to give her a few moments to process.Â
âHow is that possible? It canât be, thereâs no way⌠thereâs no wayâŚâ Y/N babbled, Yoongi using a hand to rub slow circles on her back. âI met you a year ago? How could I? How could I possibly forget you?âÂ
âEveryone forgets The Black Lodge, except for those who actually work there, for some reason. Patrons forget, and they usually never come back. You were not exempt from that, no matter how much I wanted to believe you would be,â Yoongi murmured, and Y/N realized that he had been holding on to all of this information for months, probably waiting to see if she would ever recover the memory.Â
âDid we talk at all? Yoongi, I swear, I would have remembered if we did. This doesnât make any sense,â Y/N started to feel delirious, staring at Yoongi imploringly.Â
Yoongiâs hand on her back became motionless, resting over a shoulder blade. Though he definitely looked relieved to finally be sharing all of this with her, Y/N could tell there were things that he was holding back. Reeling too much to pry, she waited for him to speak again.Â
âYes, we talked. After I played piano for a bit, you approached me. I made you drinks, and we talked for a while.â
Expelling a breath she had been holding, Y/N took a look, a good look at Yoongi, soaking in every feature, every strand of hair on his head, the twitch of an ear, the shape of his jaw. That ever-present emotion, the sense of familiarity, returned tenfold, and suddenly she couldnât deny that Yoongi was telling the truth.Â
âSo you must have recognized me at the shelter? You should have said something, Yoongi,â Y/N said mournfully, feeling bad that he had been holding onto this for so long, waiting for her to remember him. It formed a sour pit in her stomach.Â
âI didnât really know how to. I could tell the day you came in, you had no idea who I was,â Yoongi replied gently, still looking like he was holding onto a key bit of information. âYou know, when you came in, I thought you recognized me, even though I was shifted. I thought you came back the next morning to adopt me, but then you adopted the other six as wellâŚâ
Y/Nâs heart started to race, the conversation taking a more intimate, meaningful turn, and it had her head spinning.Â
âI couldnât leave you all there,â Y/N breathed, Yoongi nodding along with her response.Â
âI know that. I also know youâre not totally well-versed in hybrid behavior, let alone for hybrids like all of us, but thereâs something I should tell you. Weâre not, by nature, entirely fond of having to share the human who adopts us. Thatâs why youâve had a hard time with some of them, like Namjoon and Jeongguk. Myself, well, I wish I could say it didnât bother me like it did them, but Iâd be lying to you.â
âWhat?â Y/N, like she was shocked by a live wire, felt her stomach doing somersaults, the room becoming insufferably hot around her. âS-share me? Iââ
âWeâve all made peace with it, of course,â Yoongi cut her off, not wanting to give her the wrong idea. âWeâre all happy here, I think, with you. I just thought that telling you that would give you some perspective on the jealousy that will probably worsen over time.â
âYoongi, I donât even know what to sayâŚâÂ
âY/N, I know how you feel,â Yoongi interrupted once more, his expression serious as his hand shifted from her shoulder blade to her upper arm. âAbout us, all of us. For now, I think Iâm the only one who knows, but you canât hide it from them forever.â
With this statement, Y/N actually flinched off of the loveseat, shooting across the room to gawk at Yoongi with astonishment.Â
âWhat are you talking about? The fact that I care about all of you? I think weâve established that,â Y/N attempted to throw Yoongi off, just in case he was getting at what she thought he was. No way. Was she about to get rejected, her romantic feelings snuffed out like a flame?
âCall it that, sure, Y/N. Take your time to process your feelings, and weâll talk about it then,â Yoongi sighed, standing and moving towards the door, apparently trying to end the conversation and move on with their evening. Not on Y/Nâs watch.Â
âOh, no way, Yoongi, you canât just say something like that and expect me to drop it,â Y/N gripped his wrist, blood rushing in her ears as he looked down at her through his lashes. âBesides, thereâs something youâre not telling me. The whole thing about us meeting at The Black Lodge and everything, it doesnât add up.â
âHow so?â Yoongi lifted a brow at the change of subject, eyes on her hand encircling his wrist.Â
âWell, if what you say is true, and everyone who patrons that bar forgets about it and never comes back, youâve must have met thousands of people over the years. What about me was so memorable?â Y/N challenged, shock settling over Yoongiâs face, almost comically so.Â
âAre you serious?âÂ
âDeadly. What, did I spill my drink on you?â
âNo, I told you, we talked. I made you a drink, some kind of gin martini. You left, and you never came back,â Yoongi explained, his never-ending patience seemingly beginning to wear thin.Â
âWhat did we talk about?â Y/N began to pry, secretly pleased that she had distracted him enough to not press the whole âI know how you feelâ situation.Â
âI donât know, Y/N, your classes? The weather, piano? Normal stuff.â
âSo talking about university classes, the shitty weather, and music left enough of an impression on you to recognize me after a year?âÂ
âWhat exactly do you want me to say, sweetheart? I canât help that I remember that night and you donât!â Yoongi exclaimed, his voice raising a tad as annoyance washed over him.Â
âI want you to tell me what youâre keeping from me.â
They glared at each other, the only sound in the room from the metronome ticking away on the piano that Yoongi had forgotten to switch off. Shaking her grip from his wrist, Yoongi pushed back some of his hair again, sucking his teeth.Â
âFine. You asked for my number,â Yoongi admitted, watching Y/Nâs expression carefully.Â
âOkay, yeah, that sounds like me. Again, something that probably happened to you all the time, I mean look at you,â Y/N was unconvinced this was the bombshell, Yoongi making a noise of exasperation. âIâm just going to assume you let me down gently, I was tipsy, and I said something embarrassing. Trying to pry this out of you is like pulling teeth, and I should get going on dinner.â
With that, Y/N unlocked the door to the music room, marching out into the hallway in embarrassment and making it halfway to the stairs before a grasp on her elbow yanked her back, Y/Nâs world turning upside-down as Yoongi easily slung her over his shoulders in a firemanâs carry. Too stunned to make a noise, she limply felt Yoongi carry her into his bedroom, kicking his door shut behind them and setting her down on her feet, his eyes flashing with anger.Â
âWill you just listen to me for a second?â Yoongi hissed, clamping his wiry hand over her mouth before she could cuss him out. This was her first spat with Yoongi, and it had her blood positively boiling. Shouldnât this have been a tender moment, finding out that she really had known Yoongi all along?
âYou came into the bar, torn up over a shitty exam result. I noticed you sitting at the bar while I finished up my set, but when I got up, you were heading my way. You complimented my playing and whatnot, and complained that the drink the bartender made you wasnât stiff enough,â Yoongi articulated each word with precision, as if he was reliving the memory mentally. âI offered to make one for you. Like I said, we talked about your classes, the weather, music, and as the night went on, more personal things. You told me about your house, your friends, your family. I liked talking to you, so I sat beside you and we continued our conversation.â
Under his palm, Y/Nâs cheeks were burning up, and she knew that Yoongi could feel it. She was hooked on every word, and she was convinced there was nothing in this world that existed other than Yoongi.Â
âAfter a while, you asked me to show you where the bathroom was, and that you were thinking about heading out. I waited for you outside of the bathroom to say goodbyeâ I didnât really want to, because I knew Iâd never see you again, but I figured Iâd have to suck it upâ and you walked right up to me, pushed me against a wallââ
Y/N yelped from beneath Yoongiâs palm, ice-cold dread flooding through her. Oh no, she threw herself at him. He was right, she was better off not knowing. He pressed on, ignoring the noise she made.Â
âYou pushed me against the wall, dug a pen out of your purse, and demanded that I write my number down on your forearm. That, I promise you, hasnât happened before. Iâve gotten numbers, but I never handed mine outâ whatâs the point, if they donât remember you?â
When Yoongi was satisfied Y/N wouldnât start hollering at him, he dropped his palm, tracing a pointer finger down the length of Y/Nâs forearm, goosebumps following in its wake. Heart still pounding, Y/N found that she was sufficiently shut up.Â
âFor the first time, I had hope that someone would remember me, outside of coworkers. Hope that youâd walk out of that fucking bar, go home, pick up the phone, and call. Remember. As I was writing my number down, you grabbed my hand, led me down the hall towards the kitchens for âone more drinkâ. I think we did a couple of shots of gin, but the possibility of you calling me the next day was fucking with my head too much to really focus on what the fuck we were drinking.â
âYoongi,â Y/N whispered, overwhelmed and on the verge of passing out, honestly devastated she couldnât remember this evening with Yoong.Â
âBefore you left, I walked you to the door. You were talking about how you wanted to take me to this concert the following Friday, making all these future plans. I just⌠never met anyone like you. I didnât want you to leave, but I wanted you to leave just to see if youâd come back.â
âAnd I never did,â Y/N finished for him, hating the way Yoongi looked so regretful. âYou waited, didnât you?âÂ
âYeah, I waited. I knew it wasnât your fault, it was the fucking curse or whatever on the bar, but I waited. Each day that passed I grew less and less hopeful, until I realized you likely walked out of that bar and wondered why the hell you had a strange number on your arm.â
âYoongi, Iâm sorry,â Y/N sniffed, overcome with emotion. âIâm so sorry.â
âIt isnât your fault, itâs the bar, and whatever is wrong with it,â Yoongi shook his head, guiding Y/N to lean against his wall for support, her knees shaky and unsteady. âIn the end, I got to see you again, after all.â
âI must have really liked talking to you, huh? Just like now. And you must have made me one hell of a drink to push you against a wall and demand for your number,â Y/N tried to lighten the mood, now angry with herself that she had backed Yoongi into a corner.Â
âYeah, I really liked talking to you too. I really liked you.â
An odd look crossed over Yoongiâs face as soon as those words left his mouth, absently reaching down to tuck hair behind Y/Nâs ear. Heart galloping in her chest at the gravity, the meaning of what he just said, Y/N wanted to reach out and touch him, but was completely frozen. Yoongiâs lips dropped open to say something, but no sound came out.Â
âWhat is it?â Y/N murmured, noting how close they were standing.Â
âThereâs something else I havenât told you,â Yoongiâs gaze was intense, penetrating, and pleading. âI donât know how youâll react, though.â
âIâm sure thereâs nothing that can shock me now, angelâŚâ Y/N had motion in her limbs again, hand on Yoongiâs cheek to tilt his face back to her, his eyes searching and unsure.Â
He leaned his cheek into her touch before pulling her hand away, still holding it and watching her every reaction. His tail, which was anxiously swishing behind him, began to curl around her leg, and Y/N stood transfixed as Yoongi pressed a featherlight kiss to the inside of her wrist, her palm, and finally the pad of her index finger.Â
âThat night, before you left. Before I said goodbye,â Yoongi whispered against her hand, maintaining their eye contact. âYou asked me to kiss you, and I did.â

Little hops make their way to your bedroom door. Your personal alarm clock. Slowly, the door opens and a ball of fur jumps on your bed, tapping your leg with its foot.
"a couple more minutes please", you groaned, flipping your pillow to the other side. The bunny huffed, tugging on the blanket. He continued to kick until you gave in.
"Fine, c'mere Koo..." his face beamed. As soon as you sat up, leaning against your wooden bed frame, Jungkook hopped in your lap and rolled over.
You happily gave him what he wanted, gently rubbing his belly and patting his head. "Are you gonna do this every morning?"
The bunny shook his head and put his paw on your hand, never wanting it to leave his fur.
"Alright, enough. I have to make breakfast", you said, scooping him up in your arms and heading downstairs. He blissfully laid his head in the crook of your neck, enjoying the ride.
Downstairs was quiet, a little too quiet. Usually, the guys always woke up before you, shifting into their animal form. However it seemed no one was here. "Kook, where is everyone?"
He shrugged. You put him down so he could take a look around, but something told you they weren't far. Then you heard a couple of coughs come from their bedroom. You knocked on the door lightly.
"Come in", you heard a hoarse voice say. The door slowly creeked open.
"Oh-"
Joon, Jin and Yoongi were laid on the bed, flat on their backs. Jimin and Tae sat uselessly on the couch and used tissue paper all over the floor.
"Hey, Y/n", Jimin smiled weakly. His voice was raspy, scratchy. The others looked pale, like they had just seen a ghost. Jimin however, was red as a tomato. He was burning up.
"You guys..." you pouted. "Why didn't you tell me you were sick?"
Jin tried to get up but the pack leader quickly eased him back in bed. "Didn't wanna bother you... it's nothing, really."
You walked around the room, picking the tissues up off the floor and into the trash. "This looks like something, Joon! When did it start?"
"...A couple days ago, maybe?"
"A couple days! You guys waited a couple days to tell me you were sick?"
Taehyung raised his hand. "Actually, we weren't gonna tell you at all but-"
"That doesn't make anything better, Tae", Someone said, sounded like Hobi.
"...Hoseok?" He wasn't on the bed and he wasn't on the couch...
After some searching you found him in the bathroom, laying on the cold floor tiles. He had a roll of toilet paper in one hand and a thermometer in the other.
"I'm alright", he promised. "Feeling better already. I was actually gonna-"
"No. I don't want to hear anymore", you shook your head, grabbing Hobi and helping him to the bed. It looked like a storm had hit their room. For a good minute, you stared, wondering why in the world they couldn't come to you. Maybe they weren't as comfortable as you thought. Maybe they still didn't trust you. They all falter under your gaze. They're not sure why but every time you stare at them with those eyes that light up the room, they falter.
You don't seem to notice it though.
"We're so sorry! We'll get better", Tae pleaded.
The packer leader vouched for him and the others. "It's my fault. I wasn't paying attention. I swear, we are really feeling better."
Now you're the one that doesn't feel well. You're the one feeling sick to your stomach. Not for the same reason they do, but because they easily sit and lie to your face.
You hate lying.
"How do you guys do that?"
"Do what?" They all tensed, in hopes of the worse. Everything was going well- at least you thought so. Can a little thing like this really mess everything up for them?
"How can you guys be in pain, physical and mental pain... and lie about it?" You were confused. You were fed up. You had questions, and needed answers. You just wanted to be trusted for once in your life. "You know what? Don't even answer that. I'll be back with some soup and hot tea. Don't move."

With anger, you cut the carrots. With hurt, you chopped the celery. And with love, you made the noodles, shaping each dumpling into a heart. Cooking was a big stress reliever for you. Luckily, you have seven more mouths to feed, They could keep you cooking for the rest of your life- if they decide to stay.
As you stir the pot, you think. It's what you're best at, besides cooking. Your mind moves a mile a minute. And right now, your mind was telling you somethings off. Something is wrong.
"Y/n?" Jungkook, now in his human form, shuffled behind you nervously.
"Yes? Are you not feeling well?" You put your hand to his forehead to see if he had a fever. He then moved your hand to his cheek instead, pushing his face into your palm for comfort.
"I'm sorry", he whispered. "For not telling you about the others. I didn't want to betray my pack. I t-tried go get them to tell you but they can be stubborn sometimes.
You sighed. "I know, and it's okay. Don't worry your pretty little head, okay?" You took your hand away, earning a whine from kook, and patted his head.
You filled six bowls with chicken noodle soup and brought it to their room, with the help of Jungkook. They scarfed down every last drop, leaving nothing in the bowl. Then you brought them each an herb tea with honey. One by one, you went around the room, checking their temperature and looking for anything serious.
"Okay, I'll be tending to the garden. Kook, they stay in bed at all times. Come get me if you need something." Jungkook shook his head, ready to complete any task you assign him. As soon as you left, the room was more relaxed, but a cloud still loomed over them.
"We messed up", Yoongi confessed. "She must feel like we don't trust her."
"We don't. We don't trust her." Joon's voice was stern, assertive. It made the others cower in fear- except the youngest. Jin hoped to settle the pack leader before the conversation turned sour.
"Namjoon, please don't start-"
"I don't trust her! You know what she might do to us knowing we're sick!" He tried to get up from the bed but Yoongi quickly laid him back down.
"She's not like that", Jungkook seethed. "If you just got the chance to know her, you would know that. You're too busy comparing her to the researchers to realize that she's nothing like them!"
"Kook, wait-"
"Jungkook is right", Jimin agreed. "It's never gonna get better than her. I... I want to stay."
Namjoon was practically fuming by now. "You want to what?" Jin took it upon himself to calm Him down, whispering sweet nothings. But the others had no intentions of stopping.
"Y/n has been nothing but sweet to us. I-I mean she is really just trying to understand and get to know us. Why can't you just do the same?"
It was a question that Namjoon didn't have the answer to. Why couldn't he just give in? Why couldn't he at least put in a little effort? He didn't know, but he just knew it couldn't happen...
"Everyone pack your things. We're leaving."

For dinner you made all of their favorites. In your family, it was a way to apologize, to make amends. For you, it was a way to start friendships-- and say sorry. You may have been a little harsh on them, but you couldn't help yourself.
"Dinner's ready!" You took your usual spot at the table and waited for the others to come. Once they sit down and eat, then you make your plate.
A few minutes had passed with you sitting at the table. No one left the room. Actually, the house was unusually quiet.
"Guys? The food is gonna get cold!" Maybe they're too weak to get out of bed, you thought.
You knocked on the bedroom door as to not invade their privacy. With no answer, you knocked one more time before opening the door.
"Oh, god-"
They were gone, vanished. It looked like they were never even there. After a while of staring at the empty room, your rumbling stomach told you to come back to the dinner table. Sitting in the dining room, eating Tae's favorite Mac &cheese, you pondered.

Masterlist Epilogue
"You'll open your stitches, Yoongi-ah," Kim Seokjin noted with a monotonous tone, his eyes still trained on the tablet he was holding when he heard a rustling of the sheets, the first ever sign that the man was truly alive. The mafia prince that turned medical director was sitting comfortably, his long leg over the other as though he had gotten a good night's sleep since the mayhem that happened. It was the eighth day since Yoongi was in a coma, and similarly, it was the eighth day since you passed.
Since then, numerous things transpired- and they were all of violent nature. The five of them shed volume of blood, more so by the youngest of them. It was too bad for the traitors that Jeon Jungkook was frustrated because he almost found his wife. She was almost within his grasp when he was urgently needed back in Korea because unshockingly, one of their brothers was trying to kill the other. And well, the organization needed cleansing of traitors.
Additionally, it was worse for the traitors because the moment he returned was the moment he found his sunshine gone.
Yoongi was physically healing, as evidenced by his vitals that Seokjin was diligently monitoring. It was expected. Yoongi was not likened to a cat for nothing. They all physically saw him fall from the third floor, stood up, and brushed his hands as though it was nothing when they were younger. There was not even an ounce of doubt in their minds that he would wake up one of these days.
That was the thing, Yoongi was healing. But now, Seokjin wondered what would happen once he knew what happened to you.Â
He didn't have to wait long.
"W-where is she?" Yoongi asked with apparent effort, his hand clutching his shoulder with a barely restrained pain flashing on his face. "I need to go to her. She must be so scared," He sat up and waited for Seokjin to say something, anything.
And he waited, and waited- yet, Kim Seokjin didn't answer him. He merely regarded him with a somber expression on him, a foreign look on his usual jovial face. Jin's jaw was clenched, and he hated to be the bearer of bad news.
Yoongi blinked, looking at the older man's eyes with quick realization. He couldn't have gotten any paler even if he wanted to, his eyes widened at what he already knew.
"No. Hyung, no. Fucking no," he shook his head, his movements quick as he pulled the dextrose harshly from his skin, blood now dripping on his hand. He stood up as he aimed for the door, every step he took was shaky, yet his determination to see you was strong. "Take me to her! Where is she!"
Jin tried as best as he could to contain the man, and that was how Kim Namjoon found them. He should have known, he was no match to a man who just lost the only person he ever loved. Namjoon immediately helped his hyung, securing Yoongi's other arm on his side. But the mafia leader was like a wounded animal, thrashing around as it tried to find reprieve. In this case, it was you who was his peace.
"Hyung, stop it! You're going to hurt yourself," Namjoon ordered as gently as he could, but it fell on deaf ears. Yoongi looked at Namjoon, his dark eyes filled with panic and unshed tears. He thought that maybe Namjoon would take him to you.
You were just hurt, right? You were just resting that was why his hyung couldnât take him to youâŚright? You were somewhere here. He just needed to ask more, to impose more, and if needed, he just had to scream louder for you and you would come to himâŚright?
You were alive, right?!
"Namjoon-ah, where is my angel, hmm? Take me to her!" his voice were shaking as he fisted his hands on Namjoonâs shirt, trying to get the taller man to look at him, to listen to him. He was close to pleading, and he wasnât above it.
Why were they quiet?
Why were they looking at him as though they pity him?
He wasnât pitiful, he thought. He had you.
The two men shared a downcasted look. Both men didn't know how to tell him that you didn't survive, that not even your remains survived. But they had to.
"She didn't...survive."
Yoongi blinked, and the two of them were quiet as they waited with bated breath for his reaction. Yet, Yoongi just straightened up while chuckling. âStop lying, Namjoon.â
âHeâs not lying,â Jin stated before showing you the necklace he kept in his pocketâŚyour necklace. âThis was the only thing left in the scene. Youâre the Chief of Police. You know what this means, Yoongi-ah.â
Yoongi smirked before marching to the door. âT-thatâs not hers.â
âHyung, where are you going?â
âTo find her. Sheâs not dead. Sheâs not gone. S-She promised me she would never leave me. She never breaks her p-promise,â he struggled to say each word as his body had not yet fully recovered. His determination was commendable, but seeing him reduced to denying your death broke what was left of the brothersâ hearts. âAngel needs m-me. I cannot fail her. N-not this time.â
Yoongiâs body swayed to the side, yet he remained steadfast, walking to where he thought you were. And if he needed to crawl, then he would. If he needed to kneel just to see you, then he would be down on his fucking knees, begging for your forgiveness.
His body failed him the moment he opened the door, his barely-recovered form crashing on the ground that Jin had no choice but to contain the thrashing man the best way he could. With a small prick on his neck, Min Yoongi lost consciousness.

âFor all those years, I have only held off because you werenât entertaining any of the leeches your grandfather introduced to you. I only let you be because you were behaving like my good girl should,â he stated conversationally before twirling you slowly. Your back was plastered on his front as he bowed down, his breath tickling your ears as he embraced you like a lower would, swaying to the beat as though you two were in your own world. âBut now? Why should I hold off? Why should I not just take you when assholes like him can take you away from me? Why should I not whisk you away? After all, you are mine.â

He was avoiding you. You could tell. He made it very obvious. Each morning you woke up, he was going to sleep. And every night you went to sleep, he was just waking up, but he didn't dare leave the room, for fear that he would run into you.
Joon was still being Joon, and the Situation with Jimin made it worse. You weren't sure if he knew what happened between you and Jimin, but you didn't ask to find out either. However, he was eating more and more. At least he can trust you enough to eat your cooking. That's progress, right?
Before you knew it, the boys had been with you for two weeks. Some of them had become pretty comfortable. Taking the advice Taehyung gave you, you bought some cat scratchers for Yoongi. All of the wolf hybrids in the pack would go in the backyard to let all their energy out, except Joon. He just watched over them, scolding them whenever they would chase the chickens.
Jungkook was your new best friend. He stuck by your side like glue, your big buff teddy bear. Yoongi was quiet, reserved. He spoke to you often, but he tried not to talk for longer than a couple minutes. Jin and Taehyung were the best of help. He always cook meals, and when it's time to farm, he never lets you do anything yourself. Hoseok was still timid and flighty, but he was loyal. This group of dangerous hybrids was slowing becoming a loving family... very slowly.
"Seriously Tae, get your own!" Jungkook and Taehyung were fighting over the new snacks you had gotten them. One thing you learned about about kook was that he was very territorial over his belongings. That's why you had a specific drawer of snacks with his name on it.
Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to stop Taehyung.
"Just one bite, please!" They were playing tug of war with the bag of chips. Jungkook was winning. "You have a whole box of them! I can't have just one?"
"No! You can't", he protested. While trying to tear the chips from Tae's grasp, the bag rips, chips flying in the air and landing all over the kitchen.
"Look at what you did!" Tae accused, bending down to pick everything up. A broom would've been more efficient but he wasn't sure where you kept it. "Hurry up and help me clean before Y/n sees it!"
Swiftly, Jungkook helps pick up the salty potato chips. Before exiting the kitchen, they look around one more time to make sure there wasn't even a single crumb on the floor.
And with that, the argument over the chips was over, never brought up again...
You noticed that Jimin loved hanging out in your greenhouse, admiring all of your colorful flowers. You wanted to give him some space, but while watching him walk around the greenhouse you had the urge to join him.
"Those are vincas, by the way", you whispered loud enough for him to hear you, fiddling with your fingers.
He appeared to be startled by your presence- rightfully so. His mouth hung open, looking as if he wanted to say something. You stoped him before he could get the chance.
"Before you say anything. Let me just apologize first-"
He shook his head. "Don't. There's no need to apologize. You did nothing wrong... I should be the one apologizing. I know that hybrids and humans aren't allowed to interact i-in that way- very selfish of me."
"What are you talking about?" You may have done a lot of research on hybrids, but you never did any on their relationship with people. Maybe you should've...
"In the lab they always told us..", Jimins mind went back to the days he wished to never remember.
The lab was cold, ice cold. Stuffed in cages, the wolves shivered, huddled together for warmth. One by one, the men in lab coats sedated the wolves, fearing being bit by them.
"This one is feisty!" The researcher laughed, holding the hybrid by the spikey collar as the medicine kicked in. The others in the cage kicked and pulled on the metal bars.
"Please! He's tired, he can't take anymore!" The pack leader begged. "Take me! Take me instead, I'll do anything."
The researcher came up to the cage with a cane, banging it on the bars. "Listen here, mutt", he hissed. "Each of us have a part to play. Your is to be obedient to your superiors, understood?"
The other men laughed and applauded him for putting Joon in his place. "That's right! Show him what happens when mutts defy humans..."
Everyone in the lab agreed, shouting as if the lab had become the coliseum. A fox hybrid ran up to the bars, getting down on his knees, head pointed to the floor.
"Please excuse him, sir. We know are place is and will always be behind these bars. Please have mercy", he pleaded.
The researcher smirked. "Always remember your place. You will never have what we have. No human will ever want you, not even as a pet- definitely not as a lover. Remember this- your barely human, and will never be treated as such..."
Jimin was heavily drugged up, laid out on the surgery table. However, what the researcher said, his words- Jimin remembered every last bit of it. It still rang in his ears. You will never be treated as human...
And so, if I'm not going to be treated as one, why try and act like one? Why not let my wolf counterpart take over? These thoughts dangled over Jimin's head. And with those thoughts, he used every last bit of his strength to stab one of the researchers with a knife- the same knife they were gonna use to rip him open.
Namjoon grabbed the other man through the metal bars, choking him until his eyes rolled backwards. Jimin rolled off of the table, and the rest is a blur.
Next thing they knew, the men in lab coats were dead, and all of the hybrids in the lab were freed by Jimin's hands. With how weak he was, it truly was a miracle. He saved the lives of over a hundred hybrids.
The next few months after, these hybrids hid in the woods, using their primal instincts to survive. Maybe those men were right. Maybe they were never human to begin with.
That's what they thought, but those thoughts went away when they met you. The person who was kind enough to let them in their home, give the somewhere to rest their head. It was you. You were their person.
But sadly, you couldn't erase the damage that had been done. You couldn't get rid of the bad memories, the mistreatment. And that moment you showed a bit of affection for Jimin, he was elated, but the voices started speaking to him.
And then men in the lab coats came to him saying, this won't last forever...
***
"Why didn't you tell me? I don't ever want to make you uncomfortable in any way!"
Jimin told you his story, his deep-rooted fears. You both laid in a field of daisies as he confided in you. It's difficult for you to explain the emotions you were feeling as he told his past. Sympathy? Rage? Both?
"Because... A part of me- actually all of me wanted to. I want to be yours. But the thoughts- they're stuck in my brain and resurface every time I get even a little bit of hope." Jimin's head hung low, picking the flowers from the fresh soiling and plucking each petal one by one.
She loves me...she loves me not... she might love me?
You grabbed his hands gently, holding them between yours. "Look at me", you asked him softly. He obeyed, of course.
"You are half wolf, that part is true. But Park Jimin, you are human! You more human than any human I've ever encountered! You're kind, charismatic, and the most thoughtful person I have ever met.
Your words brought tears to his eyes, and seeing him cry made you eyes swell, too. You enveloped him, hugged him tightly- but not too tight. Just enough to show how much you mean it. Then you placed a loving kiss on his forehead.
"You deserve this, Minnie." The new nickname perked his ears. You could tell he liked it. "You deserve life. An amazing fucking life."
"T-thank you", he whispered. "I- I can't thank you enough."
"Don't thank me. Just get better. Seeing you hurt makes me hurt. And seeing you scared makes me scared. I swear on everything I love that you will never go back there, or anywhere."
"But, once Joon is ready, we'll be gone", Jimin confessed. "I don't want to leave, but he also has his own story to tell."
You pondered, never daring to remove Jimin from your grasp. Maybe you can convince him to stay permanently? Maybe there is something you can do to ease the pain...
"Don't worry your pretty little head, just rest." You gave his hair a fluff, earning a cheesy smile from him. And just like that, you both napped in the field of daisy, his arms wrapped around your waist and your hands holding his head close to your chest.

Masterlist, Part II of __
Kim Seokjin blinked owlishly as you run past him in a hurry with your white coat hanging on your arm and the sound of your heels hitting the floor before completely skidding to a stop. It was already late in the evening and you still had energy to run in the hospital lobby. Seokjin was starting to wonder what you were fed as a child to be this vibrant. Additionally, though, he was now starting to think what he fed Jungkook as a child for him to be as energetic as you.
âDo you believe in love at first sight or should I run again?â you asked with a teasing smile on your face, your breaths huffing. You saw the most handsome man walked confidently across the lobby, his hand clutching his briefcase and you knew he was done for the day. That was the moment you ran from the second floor to the ground floor just to annoy your crush. You were too busy today with your patients and papers that you had no time to go to his office and bat your eyelashes at him.
It was entertaining to watch his cheeks and ears reddened whenever he saw you doing that, or whenever you verbally appreciated his beauty. You thought he was embarrassed for you and you found it immensely charming. In fact, flirting with him was the highlight of your day and you always made sure to see him on a daily basis which you noted was difficult.
Sometimes, Kim Seokjin was nowhere to be found for days. You wondered where he went whenever he disappeared. On days after he was gone, he seemed to be more tolerant of your teasing quips. On days after he returned, you could have sworn he looked at you a little bit fondly for a second and then it was gone.
âThis is not the first time I saw you, Doctor Y/N,â he replied calmly, his hand in his pocket as he rested his eyes on yours.
âYes, but Iâm running out of pickup lines to use. I still need conduct further research,â you tilted your head to the side as you looked up at the tall man. âWhen are you even going to ask me out, Doctor Kim?â
âW-what?â
âI mean, you better hurry up or else someone might snatch me up. My mother did say that Iâm the most beautiful girl in the world and I am known for being a good girl and believing every word my mother said.â
His brows furrowed at the thought of someone snatching you away from his grasp. But, you werenât his, right? He had no hold over you, right? So why did that leave a sour taste on his mouth? Why then did he fist his hands so tight he almost felt pain knowing that he had long couldnât?
You had no idea of the darkness that was clouding his mind and instead, you smiled sweetly at him before waving him goodbye, satisfied that you once again managed to render the smartest man in this hospital speechless and blushing profusely. That was an achievement, you giggled.
But then you turned to look at him again, your hand touching your lips and then dramatically pointing it to him. That was all it took to get him out of the darkness that was caging him once again. The mafia prince didnât know what to make of the power you had over his darkness, a darkness that he spent a good decade reigning in.
You tapped your knuckles against his office door twice before opening the door. Kim Seokjin was the image of focus as he stared intensely at his laptop, his brows slightly furrowed with his glasses resting on his aristocrat nose. He looked up when he heard the sound of several tupperwares hitting his table.
âEomeoni said that she courted appa by cooking and bringing him meals everyday in his office,â you started conversationally as you opened the lids. Seokjin was helpless as soon as the aromatic smell reached him that his own stomach decided to betray him and communicate how empty it was.
He coughed to cover his embarrassment, âYour mother courted your father?â
âYes. Her method was effective, though,â you grinned at him as you placed the chopsticks in front of him. You sat in front of him before starting to eat. âShe also did say to follow my dreams, so here I am.â
You met his eyes before winking at him. Seokjinâs face radiated with a warm, pinkish blush which happened to be a true testament to his extremely flustered state that only you could bring out of him. And you staring at him like that was not helping him at all.
His hands shook as his mind went to the default setting: to push you away.
âI have patients coming inâŚâ
You blinked owlishly at him before looking down at your wristwatch. âItâs 5:47 am. Check-ups starts at 7:00 am. We have time.â
âI-I donât eat.â
The silence was loud as you processed what he just said, and you knew what an âI donât want to spend time with youâ looked like. You nodded your head before standing up. âOkay.â
You stopped yourself from showing your disappointment. You brought your chopsticks down before wordlessly closing the lids on the meals your prepared at an ungodly hour. You returned them all in the paper bag before bowing at him and leaving. He watched it all as you refused to meet his eyes for the first time since you met him.
He groaned when you closed the door, and he was once again left with the silence he was used to. He rested his head on his hands in frustration. What was wrong with him, he thought. He didnât eat? What was he, a fucking vampire? Yes, he had a clear and fair skin, and yes, he looked like he was not aging. And of course, his beauty was out of this world. But he was just beautiful! What could he do? Should he blame his mother that used to be a top model for his good genes?
Or should he blame his already system that was already beyond repair even before you came into his life? Â
Kim Seokjin eyes kept on shifting to the door and then back to his screen for a moment. However, it was as though he was powerless from looking back to the door again. The presentation that they deemed to be important was merely a white noise to him, even as the doctors kept on looking at him for approval. They found none as his face remained impassive.
He looked down on his phone, and even your usual good morning was not there and he loathed it. Granted that he never replied, but he still kept the messages. It brought him something akin to warmth in his chest when he received your messages on his phone. Reading your adorable messages was the highlight of his morning. But now, his phone was unusually quiet and you were nowhere to be found. It displaced him. It vexed him. And it confused him. Seokjin glared at the emptiness of your chair with such disgust and irritation that the presenter gulped from the darkness that crossed his face. They all wanted to please him, not only was he in the highest position but he was also the major stockholder of the hospital.
Suffice to say, Kim Seokjin was the most powerful man in the hospital. Unbeknownst to them though, his power spread beyond the corners of the hospital and into the darkness of the world.
âDirector Kim?â the presenter he didnât care to remember the name called for his attention. Leisurely, he brought his eyes from his phone to the sweating man. He didnât even care to hide the fact that he was more focused on the phone than the presentation. He read all about it and he was not pleased one bit.
âI believe you graduated at the top of your class, Doctor Choi, am I correct?â he regarded him with an unimpressed look. He waved his hand before the man could even respond. He didnât need his affirmation. âDid your school have an extremely low population? Did they have-â he tilted his head to come up with a better word than what he was thinking. â-subpar qualifications? Was bribery involved?â
He met each and everyoneâs eyes before standing up slowly in heavy disappointment. âFix this. Or Iâll personally call all the organizations that awarded this hospital as the best and tell them that they made a terribly, colossal blunder and have them take all the certifications away.â
â-
âHyuuuuung, why are you even doing here?â Jungkook, their youngest brother, whined as he watched his oldest hyung laid out on his office sofa. He had his phone up, glaring at it as though it personally did him wrong.
âHanging out with you,â he murmured before throwing his phone away. He pulled his arm on his face and started groaning.
Jungkook wanted to smash his head against his table littered with thousands of documents he needed to go into- which he couldnât do because his hyung just wouldnât leave him in peace!
âYouâre distracting me!â
âTough luck. I need to be around someone whoâs as lonely as I am.â
âThen go to the others! Why me?! Why not Namjoon hyung?!â
âHeâs not lonely. He has his secretary,â Jin softly explained before putting down his arm and turning to look at Jungkook. âBesides, no one is as lonelier as you. Your wife is out there running from you.â
âNo, sheâs not! Sheâs just lost! What about Taehyung? Go to him!â he huffed as he was reminded yet again that his wife left him. His brows were now in a pinched as he pouted at his hyung.
Jin waved his suggestion away before closing his eyes. âTae Tae does not feel any emotion, Kookie. He doesnât even know heâs lonely because he is a high-functioning pain in the ass psychopath that needs to be put down as soon as pos-â
His slander on Taehyung was cut short as the sound of his phone alerting him of a message from the floor chimed. Jungkook watched his hyung scrambled on the floor to where he threw his phone both in confusion and disgust. He never saw his hyung behaved this way when he was the one who always insisted in proprietary and manners because they as he said, they might be cold-blooded criminals but they were not barbarians.
You were back, he read as the personnel from the Human Resources department he bribed messaged him. Apparently, you were on a week-long leave that required him suffering because you werenât in his vicinity. Yet again, he had no time to dissect his feelingsâŚ
He just needed to see you.
It felt like everything was displaced when you were gone, yet at the same time it was how he was living before you came into his life and painted his world with colors he didnât know existed. That was the thing, you came and changed his world. He didnât know how to go back to his colorless world now.
âOkay, bye.â
Jungkook watched dumbfoundedly as his hyung ran out of his office.

Yoongi hates Wednesdays.
Wednesdays are usually when his favorite grocery store gets deliveries for fresh produce, and since they're freshly restocked, they tend to price them incredibly high. He usually counters this by using a gift card but then he remembers how he gave away his last remaining gift card to the two policemen from before.
So, yeah, Yoongi hates this particular Wednesday. But he carries on because your fridge is running low on food and he needs to do his weekly grocery run.
He's strolling down the sidewalk, signature 'poodle' apron on and mesh tote bag on his shoulder. He's about a block away from the store when he sees a familiar face.
A face from his past. With blonde hair and a boxy smile.
"Taehyung?"
"Hyung-nim?!"
Taehyung looks at him in shock, his face roughed up and bruised, before practically bursting with tears in relief. He runs up to Yoongi and wraps him in a hug.
"Hyung-nim! It's really you!"
"Don't hug me."
Taehyung pulls away. "Where are you going?"
"On an assignment."
Yoongi pats him on the back before moving to continue his walk to the grocery store. Curious and excited, Taehyung follows him, chatting his ear off.
"Where've you been, hyung? Since you disappeared, the gang's practically in shambles. I've tried looking for you everywhere. Oh, and what's this assignment you're talking about? Is it importantâ"
Yoongi cuts him off when they arrive at the store's entrance.
"It's very important. And I'm gonna need your expertise."
Taehyung gulps.
"Of course, hyung-nim. Let me help."
Yoongi smiles manically.
"Good. Now let's get to work."
Taehyung fully expected to do some dirty work. In the past, Yoongi always used to ask for his expertise with the computer and other tech stuff. What he didn't expect was for Yoongi to ask him for his expertise on fruit.
"Choose the freshest ones, Taehyung. I trust your judgment."
They stand before the strawberries section, and after a quick discussion about how a strawberry's leaves help tell whether they're ripe or not, Yoongi tells him to choose the best strawberries that can be made into homemade jam.
Taehyung rubs his eyes, looks at his former gangmate, then rubs his eyes again. He stares at the grocery cart full of fresh produce, toilet paper, scented candles, fabric conditioner, and dog food, among others. His eyes then move to his former gangmate's 'poodle' apron and the mesh tote bag on his shoulder.
"What the fuck is this?" he asks, his blood boiling.
"What are you talking about?"
"What the fuck are you doing, hyung-nim?" Taehyung's voice starts to rise. "What's all this? What are you doing playing house?"
He grabs Yoongi by the collar and tries to shake him but his former gangmate remains sturdy.
"The Agust D we know would never be caught dead doing all this, so what the fuck are you doing?!"
And the Agust D that Taehyung knows would've blown up and retaliated by now with how the younger man is treating him. But this Yoongi just grabs Taehyung's hands and pulls them away from his collar.
"Taehyung," Yoongi says calmly, "I'm done with all that."
"W-What?"
Yoongi fixes his top and straightens his apron out.
"I'm a househusband now."
Taehyung gapes at him.
"I'm protecting my turf in my own way," he continues. "You can't protect what's sacred to you through violence."
What?!
Then Taehyung still doesn't understand even when Yoongi makes him help put everything away in the different cupboards. And Taehyung still doesn't understand even when Yoongi makes him help cook up some homemade strawberry jam.
Taehyung doesn't understand.
But Yoongi doesn't give him time to understand before he's finishing up the grocery run and making the younger man help him carry the grocery bags back to the apartment.
But Taehyung finally understands everything when you arrive.
"Yoonie! I'm home!"
Taehyung sees you walk through the front door, greeting your husband hello and asking him where your poodle is. He sees you, all pretty and charming, being doted on by your ex-gangster husband. He sees you, a goddess with ethereal beauty, make someone like Yoongi, who he thinks of as a god, cater to you and respond to your every whim.
Taehyung understands now.
Agust D never really disappeared. He just found a new master to serve.

You're stepping off the bus, having clocked out of work earlier than usual, when you see your husband strolling along the sidewalk with his signature apron on and a mesh tote bag on his shoulder.
"Yoonie!" you call out to him.
Your heels clack against the pavement as you run towards him. The bits of impact hurt your soles but you forget all about the pain when Yoongi kisses you on the forehead as soon as you reach him.
"You're early," he remarks, grabbing your hand and placing it on his bicep before walking the two of you to the direction he was going.
"Boss let us leave early," you explain, oblivious to the looks that other passersby are giving you and your husband.
("Is he a gangster?"
"He looks so scary!"
"What is he doing with that woman?"
"Is he kidnapping her?!")
It's when Yoongi leads you to a secluded alley that you realize you're not heading towards your home.
"Uh, Yoonie? Where are we going?"
Your husband smiles radically.
"You'll see."
He leads you through a bunch of twists and corners before finally arriving at an equally secluded shop. The dim lighting does nothing to deter him as he opens the squeaky door and leads you both inside.
"Ah, Yoongi," a deep rumble echoes as soon as you walk in. "You're back."
"Of course," your husband responds. "I did everything you told me to do."
Huh?
"Did you, now?" the voice taunts, and you can finally match a face to the voice when he steps into the light. "Are you sure you did everything?"
"I always get the job done. You know me, Seokjin."
The job?
The man called Seokjin sneers before nodding and heading to his shop's backroom, leaving you and your husband alone.
"Yoonie?" you call his name. "What's going on?"
"A gamble, darling," he tells you. "I'm making a gamble."
Your eyes widen. "What?! Are youâ"
"Yoongi, are you ready?"
Seokjin emerges from the backroom with a big cork board in tow. The board is brightly decorated, divided into three sections each showing different...
"...prizes?" you think out loud. "Yoonie, what is all this?"
"A stamp scavenger hunt, darling," your husband explains in a no-nonsense tone as Seokjin hands him a dart. "I've collected ten stamps from ten different stores like Seokjin told me to."
Oh. Oh.
"Why didn't you just say so?" you laugh, nerves vanishing as you take a good look at the cork board. "Well, what's the prize?"
"Third place gets a cute plushie," Seokjin gives you the rundown. "Second place gets a self-cleaning robot vaccuumâ"
("That's what I was hoping to get.")
"âand first place gets an all-expense paid trip for two to Jeju."
("Yoonie, forget the vaccuum. Get this!")
And so the gamble begins.
The three of you wait with bated breaths as Yoongi positions himself. His eyes are closed and he blows air on the blunt end of the dart as if it'll help. Opening his eyes, he takes a deep breath, swings his arm back lightly, then throws the dart.
It lands on third place.
"Oooooh! It looks so cute!" you squeal, taking the cute plushie from Seokjin and hugging it to your chest. "It looks like Holly!"
Your happy giggles flood the shop.
"Well, Yoongi," Seokjin tuts. "Sorry but..." He smirks. "Looks like you lost."
Your husband looks at you nuzzling the plushie in delight.
"You fool," Yoongi says, "haven't you realized by now?" Now he's the one smirking. "The true prize is seeing my beautiful wife's smileâ"

After rinsing and drying off, he dons on his outfit for the day â a fitted, white, short-sleeved shirt that shows off the intricate tattoos on both his arms and some black sweatpants â and puts on his signature apron â a beige, cotton apron with a drawing of his brown poodle on the front. Said poodle is staring at him from the bathroom door as he takes one last look at the mirror.
An old, bumpy scar runs down his right eye.
"Perfect," he says to himself before heading to the kitchen with his dog following right behind.
Min Yoongi never used to wake up this early. But these days, he wakes up bright and early at six o'clock because he has an important assignment.
"What do you think, Holly? Too big?"
The poodle barks in response, and taking its opinion into consideration, Yoongi adjusts his gimbap slices accordingly, making them a tad bit smaller and just the perfect size for your lunchbox.
"Shit!"
The door to your shared bedroom opens and you run out, already dressed in your corporate attire. You run to the kitchen where your husband is and get a huge glass of water.
"I'm late!" you screech, all while gulping down the whole glass.
"But you still have a few hours," he points out in confusion.
"I forgot I have an early meeting!" you explain in a hurry, putting on your heels before giving your husband a big smooch on the lips and blowing Holly a kiss. "Sorry, Yoonie! I'll see you later!"
And you're out the door.
Yoongi blinks for a few moments before shaking his head. He's chuckling in amusement at your mishap, but if any outsider hears his laughter, it just sounds a bit manic.
"Well, looks like it's just you and me, Holly."
Holly barks.
"Huh? What was that?"
Holly barks.
Yoongi stares at the poodle, then at your Hello Kitty lunchbox he meticulously prepared, then back at the poodle.
"She forgot her lunchbox?"
Holly barks.
"Fuck."
Yoongi snaps into action, securing the lunchbox and putting it inside a Hello Kitty cloth bag before running out the door with his cute apron still on. He mounts his bicycle and speeds towards your office â which, if he was driving a car, would have broken numerous traffic regulations but luckily he isn't a stranger to breaking a law or two.
He's almost to your office. He's halfway there.
But unfortunately, there's a bit of a situation.
"What's your occupation, sir?"
The two police officers stare at him hesitantly after flagging him down for pedalling too fast with his bicycle. They're debating on giving him a ticket but then Yoongi answers.
"Househusband."
They stare at him.
"What?"
Yoongi sighs. At this rate, he won't be able to catch you before you clock in.
"Wait a second," one of the officers says, eyeing the tattoos peeking out from Yoongi's shirt and the big scar on his eye. "Are you..."
They stare at the name on the ticket. Min Yoongi.
"...Agust D?"
No way, the other officer thinks. There's a rumor about an infamous gangster called Agust D who used to slaughter his enemies with his own two hands. This guy can't be him. Right? Right?!
They hold a breath when Yoongi reaches into his pocket.
"I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to this," he murmurs.
"Wait, sir. There's no need for violenceâ"
"Here," Yoongi shuts them up by thrusting one of his most precious possessions.
A gift card for discounts at the local grocery store.
The police officers stare at the gift card, bewildered.
"As much as it pains me to let go of this," Yoongi continues, "take it. Now, I have to go."
And he pedals away, leaving behind one gift card and two very confused cops.

Youâre frantically pulling the sterilized, white lab coat on with shaky fingers. The narrow room is flashing, with a blinding white. The sudden change of light making you disoriented, it was uncomfortable compared to the hallway: a vintage white, a gentle dim that wasnât too dark nor too light, and pleasant to the eyes.
The keypad near the door with a small scanner resting above it waited for the form of accession. You quickly pulled the ID card with your name and a picture of you plastered on the front of it, you turned it around where the barcode sat and almost placed it on top of the scanner. Your hand hovering over the device.
What were you getting in to?
You knew now better than anyone, that beyond this door was a lineâthe unknown behind it.
I can leave, you think, I can leave and go home and go back in my warm bed. This wasnât working hours for you. Why were you even here? You had every right to be at home resting and not scrambling into your car at four in the morning, pulling yourself away from your one comfort and safety. This wasnât your problem.
You pressed the plastic card down, the weight in your arm was heavy and unbalanced, as if it hadnât planned to move at all.
You heard two consecutive beeps shortly after placing the lithesome-like plastic onto the scanner, a high-pitched yet small beep, indicating that security had granted access and the door was unlocked.
Not your problem, you remind yourself as your hands reach for the silver, pristine door handle, itâs cool surface pressed against your feverish palm.
The idea of leaving was tempting, tempting to the point that your own hands loosened on the handle multiple times, but only returning a stronger grip from the one thought that had picked your mind apart by the time you parked in the parking lot of this nightmare.
Was it selfish? Was it selfish to want to go home and call it a day officially and to not set foot in this godforsaken lab? Was it selfish to leave millions of undocumented work, untitled organisms laying around in glass tubes and boxes?
Was it selfish to leave themâin thereâwith it?

summary: Life wasnât fair to you, and it didnât give you happiness, hope, loveâneither lemons. It gave you tea. The finest quality there is, in the wrong situations.
The tea tasted horrible, bitter and frothy against the sides of your mouth, the number of sugar cubes you dropped in couldnât help the bland taste. Youâd say this was the worst thing youâve ever drunk, and that was saying a lot as over the years your senses were built to enjoy even the most bitter and sour, watered-down, and scalding hot drinks.
You forced yourself to take another sip and decided that it truly was the worst. Setting it down onto the glass saucer gently, a small clink resonating through the still room, you looked aroundâas you have been for the past five minutes. The room didnât change, you remind yourself, youâre still in the same stupid cushioned seat since you first arrived, and your firm corset is doing well to hide your panicked breathing and nearly accomplishing its goal to crush all of your ribs in record time.
âAnother cup? Your grace?â you hear the baritone-like voice of the butler, dressed in a beautifully tailored uniform, gold gleaming from the seams. His hair was dark brown, his eyes glowed brown with speckles of gold, and his kind smile had always done well to keep your behavior at bay.
You waved it off and returned a smile of your own, genuine or fake, you couldnât tell anymore. âNo thank you, Seokjin, Iâm fine.â
The room almost jolts to life to the informal address towards Seokjin, one of the many butlers, more commonly called Mr. Kim. But he pays no heed to the informality, he doesnât mind at all, heâs known you for quite a long time and has figured out along the way, from your awkward teenager days, and to your dumb young adult anticsâthat you hated honorifics.
His smile never leaves his face, never falters, never twitches. âAre you sure? Youâve only had a cup since coming here. Would you enjoy something else? Your grace?â
âNo, thank you though.â
âOf course, your grace.â
The room returns to its quiet state once again, all the maids and butlers are positioned with perfect forms, and the knights stand guardedly by the doors. Although itâs quiet, the one thing anyone loves in this line of work, the room burns in tension. You could feel the eyes of hundreds as they could feel every small movement you make against their cold flesh.
But youâre not one to have an outburst or a temper for that matter. You werenât allowed to.
To be raised as the daughter of a duke, youâre raised with high expectations.
You had to fit in with any trends that were fashion-related and keep up on them, you didnât need to know about anything else, not the warâas you couldnât ever enlist, no woman could. You had to have perfect etiquette when eating or talking. You had to walk in sync with others, couldnât walk ahead, you were taught to walk in heels and dresses. You had to smile, that was the most important job you were told, they drilled in the thought that even an untalented and useless girl could attract the best with a simple smile.
You were raised to be the embodiment of perfection.
A/N BETA READER. Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I love all your comments and the as always made my day
You quietly hummed it yourself as you got busy with moving Jungkookâs clothing around. The boy laid still on the bed, not moving at your touch, which made you want to frown.Â
âOkay, Kookie.â You spoke to him. âI'm gonna have to give you a sponge bath, so bare with me.â As you finished talking, you began to move his shirt off him. Your eyes slowly went wide the more skin you began to expose.Â
âLord, give me strength.â You whispered to yourself. You rung the rag out in a water bucket, moving to clean Jungkookâs clammy skin and tried your best to get him as fresh as possible, keeping your eyes on your work.Â
Once again, this is your job. You kept repeating to yourself.Â
As you got to the end of his arm, you sighed to yourself, leaning back. âOh Kook. When are you gonna wake up?â Your bottom lip trembled. âI miss you. I want to see your bunny smile again.âÂ
You went to grab onto his hand laying at his side, intertwining your fingers with his. âThe boys all miss you. Hobi is really worried; Jin as well. He keeps coming to give you food and stuff. It's hard when you won't get up to eat it, though.â You tried to laugh, but it came out breathlessly.Â
â(Y/N).â You smiled up at the boy who had entered.Â
Just like always, he had a plate of food, moving to place it on a table.Â
âHi, Jin.â You grinned at him. âHow's your day going?â You asked.
Jin kept his eyes on you, pursing his lips as he watched your eyes full of unshed tears. However, you still kept your smile, trying to move on. He chose to grant you the wish, not wanting to make you more upset.Â
âThe same as always.â Jin shrugged. âHave you already done your rounds?â He asked you.Â
âYeah.â You answered, turning back to Jungkook. âI usually check on Joon first to come see Jungkook for a bit longer.â
âForgetting about the rest of us?â Jin teased, a grin on his plump lips.Â
âI could never!â You looked over at him, appalled. Iâ'll have you know, I hung out with Taehyung and Jimin just the other day.â You smiled, remembering the two youngest bickering over the top of Jungkook.
âOne of you is always here with me.â You began to think about how all of them would somehow find a way to be in the room with you. âI enjoy all your company. I'm sure Jungkook likes it too.â
âAh, yes.â Jin hummed.Â
He began to think about all that Jimin had told the group from the other day. He had heard some of your conversation with Taehyung, which prompted him to ask out loud if any of them had told you about what they were. It was clear none of them had spoken to you about it, but the others were starting to have their suspicions about you knowing on your own.Â
Hobi claimed you still had your mark, so it wasnât something you just suddenly remembered. When Hoseok had explained this, Jin remembered the day you were in Jungkookâs room and he had entered. He knew you had rushed to put down a book you were reading, and when you left he had taken a look. It had been Hoseokâs journal you were reading.Â
âThey told me about that.â He moved to take a seat next to Jungkookâs feet. â(Y/N) what do you think about magical creatures?â He asked absentmindedly.Â
You looked up at him, tilting your head. âThey're cool?â You told him, confused as to where he was going.
âDo you believe in them?â He looked at you, holding eye contact as he waited.Â
You sucked in a breath, feeling like he was looking for a specific answer. You glanced at Jungkook, frowning. âI can't tell you.â You answered.Â
âWhy not?â Jin stressed, shuffling closer to you. âTell me.â He demanded.Â
When he saw your wide eyes looking at him with worry, he sighed and sat back down. âI want you to be truthful.â He told you quietly. âIf you don't want to; then tell me if you read Hobi's journal.â
âI don't know what you're talking about.â You immediately said, looking away.
âThat book you were reading the other day when I came in was Hobi's journal.â Jin explained to you. He leaned over, pulling your chin to make you look at him.
You licked your lips, eyebrows furrowed together as you were scared of answering. âHow much did you read?â He asked you.
âIt was nothing!â You shook your head. âI don't know, he was probably just making up a story.â You continued, pulling yourself from his grasp.Â
âI know you've been asking questions.â Jin started. âWe all do.â He grabbed your cheeks softly, wanting you to be honest with him.Â
You could see behind his eyes how much he wanted you to be honest with him. You knew they were people who put their everything into the trust they had for each other. They had allowed you to take care of them, which meant they trusted you as well. You didnât want to break that feeling by lying to them. Â
âSo tell me the truth. Do you believe in magical creatures?â He asked you again.Â
âI don't have proof.â You whispered, looking over Jinâs face.Â
Jin pulled back wistfully, looking over Jungkookâs frame. He placed his hands on his hips, pursing his lips. âGive Jungkook a kiss.â He immediately told you, looking at you seriously.Â
âWhat?â You answered.Â
âKiss him.â Jin said as if it was nothing. âHe'll wake up with a true love's kiss.â
Your eyebrows pulled together as you gave Jin an incredulous look. âThat's obscured.â
âNo it's not.â Jin huffed. âEveryone knows love is the most powerful thing known to man.â
âSays who?â You asked.Â
âMy people.â Jin answered like it was obvious. âYou want proof. Jungkook will wake up if you kiss him.â He pointed at the boy again.Â
âJin, I can't just kiss him!â You exclaimed. âHe's not gonna know about it! That is likeâa big no no here.â You shook your head. âConsent!â You shouted, pointing at the man.
âWe're never gonna get anywhere.â Jin rolled his eyes, pinching his bridge nose as he seemed to get irritated with you.
You looked at him with a frown, your attitude showing. How dare he be the one to be irritated?
âWhat's going on?â Hoseok spoke up, walking into the room with a frown.
âI'm telling (Y/N) to kiss Jungkook.â Jin spoke up before you could.Â
âWhy would you do that?â Hobi frowned, looking between the three of you.
âTrue love kiss. Duh.â Jin frowned at Hobi. âYou honestly didn't think of that before?â He added.
âThere was no reason for me to!â Hoseok exclaimed. âBe honest with yourself, when was the last time we've even thought about love?â The man asked Jin.
His question made you frown, but you had other things to talk about at the moment. âHello! I'm still here.â You spoke up, interrupting them.Â
âYou have to kiss him, (Y/N).â Hoseok told you. Jin hummed in agreement, which only made you scoff.
âHobi!â You yelled.
âJust on the forehead is fine.â Hobi tried to assure you. âThat works too.â He nodded his head, a grin on his lips.
You looked between the two, watching as they gave you expectant looks. When you glanced at Jungkook, your shoulders dropped. It had been a couple of days of waiting and here were some of his closest friends telling you that he would wake up with a kiss.Â
It sounded stupidâlike they were reading up on some many fairy tales. However, they sounded so sure of themselves. It was like they knew exactly what was going to happen if you gave Jungkook a kiss.Â
You groaned to yourself, shuffling closer to the man on the bed. With a sigh, you gave the two other men a glance, leaning down. As you were a breath away from Jungkookâs forehead, you closed your eyes and placed your lips onto his warm skin. You left them there for a few seconds, trying not to be too upset if the boys were wrong.Â
As you pulled back, your eyes drifted over Jungkookâs body. You lips pulled together as you tried to keep yourself from crying.Â
âIt didn't work.â Hoseok frowned.Â
Just as you were about to turn around to speak to the two, there was a sudden gasp and someone coughing.Â
âJungkook!â All of you yelled, rushing to the boyâs side.Â
You and Hoseok pulled him onto his side, while Jin went to get a cup of water. The boy was trying to regulate his breathing as he slapped his chest.Â
âWhat on earth is happening?â He asked, looking at all of you. His fingers moved on his chest as they felt around his bare skin.
