Since its reveal, I have been trying to figure out the significance of Kasumi’s persona being Cendrillon (aka Cinderella). It took me a bit to figure out how she fits with the other initial personas, but when it comes down to it they’re just very well known figures who rebelled. Considering how Cinderella went against her terrible family, it fits. She doesn’t seem to be an outlier when it comes to the theme. However, I did notice something interesting.
If you think back to the first pv, there seems to be a theme in p5r surrounding granting dreams, as we can tell from the line about “stealing dreams” and Mona’s line about how granting wishes isn’t justice. Interestingly, there is a part of Cinderella’s story about wishes- the part where her wishes were granted by the fairy godmother. I think there’s a strong possibility for a “fairy godmother” type character to appear in p5r who granted Kasumi’s dreams- likely the same person as whoever she feels indebted to, as mentioned in her trailer. There’s a chance this is just the phantom thieves, but I feel it’s more likely (and interesting) that it could be a new (maybe not human) character who may appear as a new villain, considering how the pt seem to be against the wishes being granted in this. If they aren’t human, there’s even technically a chance that the reason Kasumi can be retconned into such an important role is due to the dream she got granted, but I may be giving their writing abilities too much credit there.
Either way, I feel the most significant part of Cinderella’s story in this case is the part about dreams being granted, and that there may possibly be a new character to act as the “fairy godmother” to Kasumi.
