today in material transphobia:
my insurance asks for my AGAB as well as my gender, then uses my AGAB as my de-facto gender marker on all documents without telling me.
my adderall (which I have to order by mail because I'm on an island) is then stuck in "processing" for a week, and I am forced to call just to find out why. Its because the gender my psychiatrist and pharmacy use is "male", but my insurance has me listed as "female", so they can't give me my medication.
when I call my insurance to fix this, a man argues with me about why I need to be listed as "female" even though my gender has been "male", legally, to the state as well as the federal government, since before I signed up for this insurance in the first place. he says there are "internal biological differences", then that people cannot access or get coverage for care they need without the "female" gender marker- pap smears, abortion, birth control, etc.
so now my options are:
1. change my gender marker to "female" for all of my medical information/documentation, including dental (bc it's the same insurance), even though the vast majority of my medical care has nothing to do with my AGAB- I don't need to be "female" to need adderall, for example- or
2. give up all access to and coverage for medical needs related to my reproductive system.
anyway, I got my gender marker changed to "male" with my insurance, since that was the fastest way to get my medication. I guess we'll see what happens when I need a pap smear next.
btw this is why abortion is not a "women's issue".
legally, materially, men need access to abortion, too.
‘this meeting could have been an e-mail’ but it’s me watching long tiktoks and thinking ‘this could have been a two-sentence text post’
One of my biggest frustrations in trying to discuss queer media is how many people seem incapable of separating "this is an important milestone in representation" from "I did or did not enjoy this piece of media." Media analysis goes beyond just "fandom stuff," and queer media in particular deserves analysis and discussion because of how hard it's been stifled.
It doesn't matter if you hate Steven Universe, it's still important to talk about, because it showed the first queer wedding in American children's television. It has been cited by the creators of subsequent queer family animation as a major milestone in allowing their shows to enter production. The Ruby/Sapphire wedding is a historical milestone, and that doesn't stop being true just because you hate the show or think the ending was bad.
It doesn't matter if you think Will & Grace is entertaining or if you have any real interest in watching it, it's still a majorly important entry in televised queer representation. It kicked down the door to allow even more to come after, and deserves credit for what it did even if you don't personally care about the story.
It doesn't matter if you have any personal interest in Rocky Horror Picture Show, it's still got a ton of important history in queer spaces. Understanding why Rocky Horror showings were and still are hubs of queer expression is important even if you despise the movie and the creator.
Giving credit for representation milestones doesn't mean you can't have criticisms of a piece of media, it doesn't mean you have to like the media, and it doesn't mean you can't prefer other media. It doesn't mean it's free from problematic material, it doesn't mean it's god's gift to television, it doesn't mean it's better or worse storytelling than other stories.
It just means it's worth talking about and understanding the context in which it was made.
that went hella left

Now that college students no longer have access to their libraries in the same way we used to and have to do most of our learning at home it would be just terrible if we all knew about https://1lib.eu/ a website which has books on basically every topic ever available for free including college textbooks. Imagine if people were researching their thesis without paying for it.
DO NOT USE THIS SITE AND DEFINITELY DO NOT NOT TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS SITE, THEY MIGHT START DOING THESIS RESEARCH FOR FREE OR JUST START READING BOOKS THEY FOUND ON THERE FOR FUN BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE INTERESTING. This would be terrible :( :(
Reblog to spread the word so that everyone knows to avoid this site!

queer is a gender, sexuality, romantic orientation, political alignment, and mission statement, babey
queer is literally a slur that means weird and strange
and I most certainly am weird and strange, what else you got?
Queer is a revolution. To be queer is to seek liberation, not assimilation. To be queer is to build community.

Look I used to work with tow truck guys and they do not give a fuck. One time the Air Force was doing a recruiting stunt and they decided to bring a plane as like…a prop? I dunno and they parked it in a 20 minute loading zone and 21 minutes later my coworkers IMPOUNDED THE PLANE.

With some changes to techniques, a careful selection of kitchen tools, and tips from fellow bakers, the joy of baking can live on.
I luckily haven't had to deal with much chronic pain or hand pain yet, especially with regards to baking (crochet is another story). That said, these look like some pretty solid tips! There's also some in the comments section.
