Is there a word for occupying the space where normies think you're a freak and freaks think you're a normie?
I tell a woman with a 9 to 5 office job about the slightly niche speculative fiction novel I just finished and she goes "Oh, that's...interesting. I hadn't heard of that."
I tell a grungy chick I met at a dive bar about the same book and she kinda scoffs and goes "Okay" like I said my favorite show is Sesame Street
I fuck with this
[image description: screenshot of writing formatted as a question and answer exchange. headline of piece is: The Proposal to Raise Every Boy as a Girl. (author not listed)
Q. You want to raise every boy as a girl? Yes.
Q. Why? A boy will learn to hate girls as long as he is raised in such a way where he is treated as better, and superior to, his girl peers, whenever he is cruel to girls. So, instead, we raise boys as girls.
Q. What if they say they are not a girl, and want to be acknowledged as boy? Then you know they are a boy, so you must make sure to understand them as boy, and not a girl.
Q. What does it mean to be 'raised as a girl'? That's up for you to decide. The only difference is that you should not raise boys any differently than you raise girls, since you raise every boy as a girl.
Q. Girls and boys are raised in specific ways for specific purposes, so it does not make sense to raise boys as girls. If you raise every boy as a girl, then there is no being which is not raised as a girl, so anyone raised as a girl necessarily must learn to do anything and everything to grow up, without restrictions on tasks, labours, or interests.
Q. But boys and girls are different. All two girls are different, and raising girls in one specific way destroys this individuality in favour of moulding girls to serve the same master. Still, the girls resist to live life on their own terms. If girls can be raised such that they know they can do anything they want, including not being girls, so too will boys raised as girls.
Q. Why not raise every girl as a boy? Because if a girl does not exist among boys, then the girl is made.
Q. Why not raise girls and boys as themselves? The self must be made in a world where girls and boys can first and foremost be themselves. One step towards this goal is to raise every boy as a girl.
Q. The way people raise girls is cruel, so why would you raise boys with that cruelty? If you raise girls with cruelty, then you should stop being cruel to girls.

this is so fucking based
Dyscalculia sounds like the name of a vampire. Hey everyone there goes Count Dyscalculia. He has trouble estimating distances
The idea that non-police lynchings ever stopped in the US instead of whites just becoming craftier (evil) about it is so weird to me like
Sure they ain’t picnicking at a public hanging anymore but you seen how many more missing posters there’s been the past few years in particular right? How so many Black and Brown children are just fuckin disappearing too and never making anything more than a Facebook missing post?
We just only hear about them when someone cares about them enough to set fire to everything until it gets noticed.
Yes. Mainly by law enforcement or people working with them. We watch us disappear into human trafficking and mass graves and we can do literally nothing about it besides hope one of our loved ones wasnt one of them when we get news they’ve disappeared.
The law doesn’t exist to protect Black people, it exists to kill us.
The issue became national news when families said they waited months for word about missing loved ones — only to learn their relative had be
“If these so called ‘sundown towns’ still exist–”
A database contributed by people across the nation underlies these maps and the tables you can generate.
The Greenbook was a travel guide for Black people; it still exists, there's even an app!
Green Book Global is the first Black travel review site. Black Travelers, write/read destination reviews, book trips AND earn cash
Hey! Are you looking at the map above and thinking "there's some places missing that I know about"? Then please ADD INFORMATION TO THE MAP. It is an ACTIVE map that you can contribute to!!! If you are a BIPOC person who travels, please make use of and contribute to Greenbook Global's city review information! These are not static, these are active maps that don't work if people don't contribute!
So remember the meme of Sylveon being a dragon killer back when Pokémon X and Y came out?
Long story short, I got this book, Pokecology. (It's the official english release).
And yeah, they have a passage on Sylveon. But it's categorized under the section about Pokémon and how they hunt for food.
So not only does Sylveon slay dragons... they eat them.
and while we’re at it, fuck this idea that ONE ACCOUNT has to belong uniquely to ONE PERSON. This is the same thing these silicon valley fucks want; their vision of the future where everyone has a unique biometric ID code implanted in their body is the ultimate extension of Netflix’s “no password sharing” policy. You want to use your friend’s car? Sorry, you can’t, you need to be an authorized user. Your mother wants to let you look something up on her OED account? Too bad! That’s only for her! The concept of perfect market efficiency gives them greedy little money bag eyes.
If I pay money to have a newspaper sent to my house, they don’t charge me extra when I show it to my dad. This password sharing thing isn’t just a Netflix problem; don’t be surprised if it shows up elsewhere in other forms. Stamp this idea out now or we’ll be stuck with it.
This is by far the most popular post I have and I have to say: good, I’m right. Password sharing and ID verification are going to kill the internet. not oooh in 50 years. in like 5 more.
I truly believe we could fix so many problems if the world wasn’t making us all so dang tired
Once again going to plug the Repair Cafe movement who I've volunteered with for a number of years. If you're too tired (or don't know how) to repair your stuff, there's a good chance we can do it for you (and teach you how to fix things in the future). Volunteering with them has been so rewarding.
Image description: A four panel comic drawn and signed by the original poster, hugbox, who is represented in the comic as a cartoon bunny. The comic says,
"I'm amazed at what people throw away."
The bunny lifts the lid of a dumpster and gasps to see that it's full of art supplies and tools. We can see a cardboard box of fabric, frames, a T-square, and a handbag.
Narration: "It seems so wasteful, thoughtless."
The bunny walks away from the dumpster with the handbag, examining its torn strap, remarking, "This is an easy fix."
Narration: "But it's probably a symptom of capitalism."
A thought bubble imagines the person who had thrown away the damaged handbag, saying sadly, "I'm so tired. I'll just toss it."
Narration: "So I try not to have unkind thoughts."
The bunny sits on a cozy sofa, using a needle and thread to sew the strap back onto the handbag, saying, "I'll donate it for them."
Description ends.
There has been much discussion about how we’re able to ensure two mirrored cards show up in the same booster together. The Collecting Reality Fracture article introduces the concept and I wanted to give a slightly more elaborate explanation here.
The solution to the problem wasn’t some new dangled printing technology, but rather using a tool that Magic has had access to for decades.
Magic boosters can have slots, that is a card that shows up in every booster usually with some theme, most often rarity. We can assign slots in a booster as long as every card in that slot comes from the same printed sheet. It’s how boosters can get a land card or a specific theme (such as every booster of Dominaria getting a legendary creature).
Printed card sheets are made up of many cards. The printer then cuts the sheet so each card is separate. When doing so, the cards in the sheet will always end up in the same order.
So, here was the clever idea I had. What if we made a sheet where the mirrored cards sat next to each other in the sheet? The first card is Card 1, version A (1A), and next card was Card 1, version B (1B), then Card 2, version A (2A), card 2, version B (2B) and so on.
The problem is while we control the order, we don’t control what two cards you get. You could get Card 1 version A (1A) and card 1 version B (1B) or you could get Card 1, version B (1B) and card 2, version A (2A). How could we guarantee you get a matching pair?
The answer was we give you three cards from the sheet. Since they are in order, two of the three have to match. So, if you get 1A, 1B, and 2A, you get a mirrored pair of Card 1. If you get 1B, 2A, and 2B, you get a mirrored pair of Card 2.
The clever solution was a very old school answer.
looking for animal references on image searches has always kind of sucked but it's much worse after AI image generation technology has begun to actually past muster, which is why i always just go straight to inaturalist. can't recommend this highly enough. you get to both find out about niche species you've never even heard of and also see some really good photographs like this one

I work with kids and sometimes we have to do safety lessons with them about like, not telling strangers on the internet your home address or something. And sometimes the kids wont understand why, so you have to impart upon them that, well, some adults want to hurt children. And thats kind of difficult to do, because you have to beat around the bush, both because you dont want to scare them (while still making them understand how serious it is) and because you might lose your job if you explain it too straight forward.
Luckily, for some reason, the villain of one of the most popular franchises with children for the last 10 years happens to be a serial child murderer. So when a kid asks why they shouldnt trust strangers, instead of hand wringing and humhawing my answer out, I can just say "we dont always know when a strange adult has good intentions with children, or when they are William Afton."

letting family members sit in for dead senators is just monarchy logic im appalled that this has even happened before
Each state gets to decide how their state is represented in Congress
This has been a common method for a long time in some states
The idea is that a Senator's sibling/spouse/parent/child knows their intentions and policies better than a political rival or a random person would. It's a pretty good way to prevent political assassinations tbh
An unelected individual getting grandfathered into a real political position due to their blood or legal relationship with a deceased elected official is not pretty good actually
hey everyone, just curious:
what is everyone's criteria for blocking people?
often you will see things online where you just have to be like "what a strange thing to say" or "i don't think that's true :)" to yourself and try to move on or you will lose your mind
Hi don't mind me i am just using this for timestamp purposes
