Normally, I wouldn't share photos of myself, but I was sewing a bit, so here you go. Old duvet cover transformed into a frilly shirt, haha.
For those who are interested - for the shirt I was pretty much following the instructions here and here. It's very nicely described and because it's basically only made out of rectangles the pattern is very simple to make and in general it's not difficult to sew at all. I had to make it quite a bit smaller though and the sleeves are still rather too long for me, which may look stylish on photos but it's a bit too much. :'^)
The first link also has instructions for the neckcloth and other 18th century items ✨
AU where Luo Binghe can smell other people's emotions Omegaverse-style
I'm a big fan of the headcanon that Luo Binghe had sharper senses even before his seal broke. Stuff like hearing, vision, balance, and others. But one sense that he finds more useful than others is his heightened sense of smell.
Even as a child Binghe's sense of smell is freaky good. Sure, he can smell common things that could be explained by a naturally strong nose. Like, he can always tell when it's going to rain, or when the food is starting to go bad, or when someone is about to be sick. But if those things seem natural, his ability to distinguish people by smell alone is not.
Luo Binghe's ability to smell people is crazy strong. He can distinguish people by smell with his eyes closed. He can always tell why two people sneak out together. He can guess when they came into the room and when they left.
He can also smell people's emotions. Ok, well, calling it smelling people's emotions is a bit of an overstatement. But he can smell one (1) emotion. I imagine Binghe conceptualizes this emotion as "a feeling of general unrest," as he senses this particular smell only from people who are angry or scared or very upset.
(It's cortisol. Baby Binghe is smelling cortisol. But he doesn't know what cortisol is, so for him it's an emotion that is opposite to calm.)
For the longest time, Binghe doesn't realize that there is something abnormal about his sense of smell. Well, he knows it's stronger compared to other people's, and he is very happy to help his adoptive mother. But when it comes to smelling people, he assumes that everyone can do that. For him, distinguishing people by smell seems just as natural as distinguishing them by their face or their voice or the sound of their footsteps. And his ability to smell the unrest on people is just as normal as guessing emotions based on smiles or tears or tense posture or raised voice.
Only when one day he tells his mama that one of their masters "smelled angry" does he realize that it's something he needs to hide. She never says that there is something wrong with him. She ensures that Binghe knows that she loves him. But she can't allow Luo Binghe to accidentally put himself in danger by revealing too much to wrong people. So Binghe never tells anyone about his smell, or vision, or hearing.
Still, Binghe spends his early years relying on his heightened sense of smell. Sometimes for convenience, but mostly for safety. It's very convenient to know which people he should be wary of, especially when it comes to nobles. After all, they love to hide their true feelings to save their face. It's very easy to accidentally get in the way of a frustrated young master. But no one can hide the anger in their smell. So Luo Binghe uses his ability to evade people who smell like upset/anger/fear.
In the end, Luo Binghe's sense of smell doesn't save his mother. He smells the illnesses on her and her upcoming death. He still goes to get her some congee anyway. He still comes back only to find her dead.
He continues using his sense of smell while living on the streets. What food doesn't smell as rotten? Which people smell like danger? When is it going to rain? Where are there too many animals in one place?
Luo Binghe receives his first level up to his sense of smell after he arrives at Qing Jing Peak.
Mulan AU where she does get caught by the other fresh recruits while she's bathing but Mushu helps her spin it like the lake is cursed by an evil lizard demon and will turn men into women if they stay in it for too long.
From there it's not actually difficult to get the other soldiers onboard with covering up the fact that poor Ping took one for the team and got afflicted by the vagina curse, especially since it would have been all of them if they hadn't gotten the warning ahead of time. So they agree to help him cover it up, because obviously the army's not going to understand.
Shang is... tentatively glad that the men are bonding and getting along, even if they continue to be deeply weird about it.
Ling: Hey man, what's up— you've got boobs?!?!
Mulan: Uh, what boobs? Huh? Where did these come from?
Mushu: *facepalms and thinks quickly* (speaks from the shadows) I AM THE SPIRIT OF THE LAKE! BEWARE MY CURSED WATERS FOR THEY WILL TURN MEN INTO WOMEN!
Ling, Yao, and Chien Po: Oh no! The spirit of the cursed waters!
Chi-Fu: SHE'S A WOMAN LI SHANG!
Mulan: Look-
Ling, Yao, and Chien Po: WE CAN EXPLAIN!!
[One convoluted, chaotic explanation later]
Shang: ...is this why you've all been insisting we don't camp anywhere that doesn't have a lake.
Shang: and then none of you actually swim in it.
Shang: and you all keep jumping at shadows.
Shang: wait a second Ping did this happen before or after you became insanely good at fighting?
Shang: did you get better at fighting after you became a woman.
Shang: are women better at fighting than us.
Mulan: ....uh. well. maybe? no one's ever tried to find out.
Yao: [thinking very fast] y'know Captain it's just so hard to find recruits these days.
Chien Po: Real shortage of men.
Ling: Lots of women, though.
Mulan: [catching on] Without marriage prospects.
Shang: You're right, men. The spirits must have done this in order to show us that we should be recruiting women as fighters.
Mushu [from the shadows, seeing an opportunity to do the funniest thing]: EXACTLY, LI SHANG. I HAVE TRANSFORMED PING INTO A WOMAN BECAUSE YOU HAVE TOO LONG OVERLOOKED THE TRUE WAY TO WIN THE WAR.
Mulan [seeing an opportunity to get all the stories straight]: O Great Spirit, is it reversible?
Mushu: WHY WOULD YOU WISH TO REJECT MY GIFT? I HAVE SEEN YOUR HEART, CHILD, AND HAVE ALREADY ALTERED THE MEMORIES OF EVERYONE WHO KNEW YOU BEFORE YOU LEFT FOR THE ARMY. YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THEIR DAUGHTER.
Li Shang: Welp, the spirits have spoken. Ping - wait is your name still Ping if you're a woman now?
Mulan: Uh. Actually, I was thinking of renaming myself. How do you feel about Mulan?
BONUS:
Mulan [climbing out of the eleventh lake the men have arranged for her to swim in]: Yeah no, it didn't work. Still got boobs. [tries to appear dejected].
Chien Po: If it makes you feel better, they're very nice boobs.
Mulan: Thanks, Chien Po.
Mulan and Mushu, somehow opperating on the same wavelength: oh haven't you heard?
In light of the newest update, I have a revised theory:
What if Yingxing was infected with Shuhu's cells before the Sedition?
(4.2 spoilers ahead)
There was a huge chaotic battle with this thing that likely had his flesh and blood (bark and sap?) flying everywhere and landing on people. (I imagine a huge draconic Dan Feng just absolutely ripping into this big tree monster). The Xianzhou weren't affected because they are *technically* already Abominations of Abundance (infected by the Ambrosial Arbor). But a plain short life human could absolutely be affected by even the tiniest cells. The Happiness Society members were infected by a microscopic collection of Shuhu's cells, so who's to say Yingxing couldn't be infected in the same way?
Let's say Yingxing got covered in Shuhu's blood and guts during the battle. It seeped into his body and lay dormant there until some sort of trigger. Ashveil was the one who eventually killed Shuhu and ended the battle, swallowing it up completely with his shadow, even the parts that scattered across the battlefield. But what if the shadow missed a small part attached to Yingxing? Either because Ashveil sees him as an ally, or he simply couldn't detect such a faint scent of Abundance on him (especially surrounded by other Xianzhou folks who also have dormant Abundance cells).
So now Yingxing is infected with Shuhu's flesh, but he's not showing any symptoms of Abundance or mara until something triggers it. Him and Dan Feng clear the palace ruins at Scalegorge for whatever experiment/ritual they were doing, and something during that experiment triggered it. And THAT'S why Jingliu killed him. Yes, Jingliu was on mara-watch, but she didn't have it *yet,* and I can't imagine her killing one of her close friends for no reason. Yingxing suddenly becoming mara struck out of nowhere would absolutely be a justifiable reason for her to freak out and kill him in front of Dan Feng.
On the subject of Dan Feng, I can't imagine him purposefully infecting Yingxing either though that is what I was initially led to believe. (And honestly it's still a possibility. Dan F/Heng will go to extremes to protect his companions, he even admits it himself). It's likely whatever ritual they performed triggered Shuhu's dormant cells in Yingxing, like how the Happiness Society members had dormant cells until triggered and they transformed into beasts (hmm). This would leave Dan Feng totally blind sided and *devastated*... enough to allow himself to be arrested (cause come on, there's NO way he would've gone to the Shackling Prison if he wasn't willing OR extremely injured, which is another possibility. Dan Feng is ridiculously strong and could probably wipe out a Xianzhou ship if he *really* wanted, especially surrounded by his ancestral waters). While I do love the narrative of a slightly evil/morally grey Dan Feng who would use even the flesh of his enemy to make his lover immortal, I'm more inclined to believe he's smart enough to understand that is a VERY bad idea, even as arrogant as he is. He would've had to preplan and consciously make a decision to sneak into the Shackling Prison and take Shuhu's remains (unless he was given the remains by Sanctus Medicus, which is also a possibility given it's implied Dan Feng was tricked by them).
(Did the Xianzhou even have Shuhu's remains if Ashveil swallowed him completely? No one’s even allowed to check. Hm Xianzhou propaganda makes lore sleuthing very difficult lol).
In short Yingxing being unknowingly infected by Shuhu from that battle would explain Jingliu and Dan Feng's behaviors around the Sedition (what little we know of it).
Side tangent: How does Blade have such good control over mara/Shuhu? Imagine this, Yingxing is infected by dormant cells. Whatever ritual him and Dan Feng perform triggers it, turning Yingxing into a mara struck beast. Dan Feng panics and uses his dragon heart to stabilize him (either before or after Jingliu comes over and kills YX).
That's right. Dragon Heart theory. Jazz hands.
It would also explain why Dan Feng allows himself to be arrested. He *severely injured* himself to stabilize Yingxing, and likely drained a lot of his power/energy to make it work. It explains why he doesn't have his dragon heart in the Prison. It explains why Blade isn't visually affected by his immortality/mara other than his eyes (which look shockingly draconic). It explains why Blade feels calmer being with Dan Heng (you can hear heartbeats when he looks at him). He's essentially with his other half. It explains why Motenax Blade's splashart is in the shape of a heart.
(I've been a long time believer of the dragon heart theory. I came upon the conclusion myself when I first played through, but it's only recently I discovered it's actually a popular theory).
Now whether the "dragon heart" is metaphorical or literal is to be decided. Personally I'm for it being literal because I enjoy body horror (especially from the Xianzhou those freaks have body horror everywhere). Dan Feng is also a biologist/doctor, so it's something he could absolutely attempt to pull off (we talk about his cool magic dragon powers a lot but let's never forget he's also an old fart smarty pants scientist). Something about giving your *literal* heart to your lover so that you can find each other in your next lives is so tragic and beautiful and fits their theming.
Mortenax Blade has a suspiciously placed marking on his chest that seems significant, which could point to the dragon heart. The phoenix motifs also align with Vidyhadara themes of rebirth (and connects him to Dan F/Heng, since phoenixes and dragons are seen together as a symbol of unity). The fire element could point to draconic features, but it could also just be a reference to being the "Furnace Master." Overall Blade is definitely going to gain some sort of enlightenment/insight/control over his body, so this would be a perfect time to reveal something about the dragon heart.
TLDR: Yingxing was infected by Shuhu before the Sedition. Dan Feng's only interference with his mortality was giving him the dragon heart to stabilize him.
Getting my scattered thoughts out before 4.3, cause the next update will almost definitely give us more details about Yingxing, Shuhu, and the Sedition.
Adding onto this, the readable 'Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Collection of Exhibits' contains this right at the end about the 'Pharmacological Studies on the Draught of Draconic Surge'
so it is entirely possible that a mixture of Shuhu cells caused Yingxing to become Mara struck and so Dan Feng gave the dragon heart to Yingxing which caused the de-aging until the two sort of balanced out and well,
since at that point he would have had the cells of the Emanator of Abundance and one of the closest beings to the Permanence it probably just stayed that way for the last 700 years (?) with a heavier lean towards the Abundance because the Permanence is a dead Aeon at this point so (??)
That or he was the abomination, they used Shuhu's remains in the ritual and Dan Feng did who knows what with the dragon heart, either used it in the ritual or something else
but if that second one is true then that begs the question of how does Bailu exist?
Dan Heng is truly an insane character. He's a deity for different things in two different places and one of them hates him. He sees a dead god's memories in his dreams and may also be the reincarnation of said dead god. He's simultaneously 70000 years old and in his early thirties. However he is still considered one of the 'kids' of the Express Crew. His species is dying out due to infertility because a new god ate like maybe a quarter of their god's remains. Despite being infertile he has over 2 million offspring. This is because he apparently has the power to subconsciously influence entire ecosystems. He's watched his loved ones die horribly three times and none of them stayed dead. Only one of those cases was his fault. His character is clearly inspired by Chinese mythology but he has done two bible references as well as debatably also referencing both Prometheus and Odysseus. He journeyed alone for an entire millennium and came out relatively unscathed all things considered. He can turn people into mindless monsters but usually just uses this power (which by his own admission is dangerous) to make himself look like a regular guy. He's become a wanted criminal on several planets and kind of deserved it one time except for the fact his homeland broke their own laws to punish him way more than they were supposed to. He grew up in chains and complete sensory isolation. He's committed multiple murders and most of them were against the same guy. He may still have lingering feelings about said guy. He's implied to have laid the groundwork for the fighting style of an entire military. He talks to animals. He thinks necromancy is situationally okay. His current teammates include a vessel for something called The Cancer Of All Worlds and the fellow problem child of an entirely separate maybe-dead god. They have to kill the incarnation of Destruction itself otherwise the universe will end. He likes reading and that one drink everyone else hates.

walking into 4.2 ready for renheng only to be completely blindsided by Yao Guang/Evanescia. They’re so stupid but also like profound and fascinating
Previous versions did not prepare me for the Yao Guang/Evanescia at all. They have such different perspectives, so their cooperation is very interesting to me. Also the banter (?), how they experience eachother. I want to put them in 'normal' situations and just observe their interactions. It felt very refreshing for some reason?
turn over🔄
I love the new Sumeru event
That one frame of Dan Feng getting drunk was soooooo cute 🥰
