Episode 1 of The Totally Not Made Up Podcast discusses the rogue planet Nibiru that many people insist is on its way to destroy life on Earth as we know it, and is totally not made up.
A brand new podcast where your hosts Dr. Ruth Adams and Dr. Cal Meacham break down and discuss things people believe which are totally not made up. Episode 1 is now live.

Wil, I'm a white guy, you're a white guy, how do we help people understand not all white guys are dirtbags? How do we stop other white guys from being such dirtbags? Where can we make a space to educate our fellow white guys about how they are hurting others and themselves by being such dirtbags?
Step one: listen to women, especially women of color.
Step two: listen to non-white people when they tell us how white people screw up.
Step three: act on the things we learn when we listen.
Step four: NEVER NEVER NEVER just go along with some white person who is being a shitty garbage human because you don’t want to rock the boat. Call that shit out, and make sure they know that you won’t just stand there silently while they are racist, bigoted, homophobic, transphobic, misogynist, etc.
Step five: I’m serious about step four. These fuckholes feel empowered and protected by the silent and implied consent of other white people. Do not ever give them comfort or the feeling that they have a safe space to be racist, etc.
Step six: yeah yeah yeah free speech. That’s not the same as speech without consequences.
Step seven: Seriously, step four. You have to speak up, because when you don’t, you’re putting the burden of standing up to horrible white people on the very people they hurt and oppress.
I’d love to hear from anyone else, especially nonwhite people, who have other things to teach me and my fellow white people.
If you’re brown, and other brown people are being racists/sexist/homophobic etc. against others, especially other POC groups, shut that shit down. I’ve told my (Latino) family members what’s up, and they know that they don’t have a safe space to be assholes around me.
That's the same reason why he doesn't acknowledge Radical Islamic Terrorism.

Self-Made Man
Here’s a message for all the far-right bootstrappers and self-made men out there. Here’s a list of all the things you didn’t do on your own when doing something as simple as making toast:
If you bought the bread at the store, you didn’t make it yourself. You didn’t pave the road yourself which you drove on to get to the store, or collect and process the petroleum that fuels your vehicle, or any of the materials that were used in the construction of your vehicle. You didn’t invent the automobile or any of the basic concepts that make it work.
If you made the bread yourself, you didn’t invent the bread maker you used to make it. You didn’t design or build the toaster. You didn’t invent the electrical components that make it work. You didn’t collect and smelt the minerals used in its construction. You didn’t invent the toaster in the first place.
You probably didn’t build the house you’re standing in. If you did, you probably didn’t collect and machine all the materials involved in making it. You didn’t smelt the metals for the wiring or discover electricity or invent how it could be harnessed to run machines. If you did, you didn’t learn how to do all those things on your own.
If you cooked the bread in the oven, you didn’t invent the oven or gather the gas/electricity used to run the oven. Same goes for if you’re toasting the bread over the stovetop instead of using a toaster. You didn’t create the mechanisms or infrastructure that makes all those things possible.
If you cooked the bread in an earthen oven you built yourself, you didn’t invent the concept of an earthen oven or develop the recipe for your bread completely on your own. You didn’t invent the hand-made tools that you used to construct and operate the earthen oven.
If you’re toasting the bread over an open fire, you didn’t invent the wire frame toaster you’re likely using to do so. You didn’t learn how to make a fire on your own.
Literally everything you do is the result of benefiting from the work of the countless generations that came before you. That’s what society is and how progress works. If you want to be truly self-reliant you would have to become a hermit and live completely separate from civilization in all its forms. And even then, the knowledge you have of how to survive on your own was taught to you by somebody either through direct experience or reading a book.
Get over yourself. We’re all in this together.
The last season of America is getting crazier every day.

Reenactor throws a spear at a drone
What a time to be alive.
“The medieval warrior, realizing the consequences of his impulsive act, immediately approached the owner of the drone and offered to pay for the damage.
The owner of the drone was so impressed by the brilliant attack that he suggested organizing a competition for bringing down “dragons” with short spears next year.
Drone owners have another year to develop a unique “dragon-like” design for their flying machines.” (x)
I am 100% cooler with this knowing that the spear-thrower realized “oops maybe I shouldn’t have done that” and tried to make it right, and that the guy who the drone belonged to was cool with it
just so everyone knows, this has already been memorialized in a runestone
What’s the most simple thing you’ve ever had to explain to a fully competent adult?
That you cannot fax money to someone.
Had someone accidentally fax us some paperwork. They then asked if we would fax it back due to the paperwork being confidential…
I have received a fax in an envelope. like… they took the documents, put em in an envelope, then faxed me a picture of the sealed envelope.
When I was a kid, I faxed my dad’s satellite office drawings of horses. I had watched my father send so many faxes that I had the process memorized. Except, for some reason I thought that I could fax things to grandma. I put in the numbers for the office every time, but was convinced that the faxes were going to grandma. I also didn’t think to inform my parents that I was doing this.
My dad visited the satellite office (three hour drive) one day and discovered their conference room white board absolutely covered in my drawings. The guys thought it was adorable that I sent drawings and letters to them, and didn’t tell my dad because they knew he’d stop me.
That’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard.
I like that this just turned into stories about faxing
I feel like the news is going so fast right now that almost everyone missed out on this gem of a story, so here you go
