The problem with male love interests nowadays is that they’re not characters. They’re just good-looking lamps that exist to shine a light on the designated reader-insert heroine. Like…romantasy authors love giving their male characters these lofty responsibilities (e.g. princes, kings, dukes, resistance leaders,) but don’t give a damn about what those roles mean for the characters. Their status doesn’t say anything about them, it only exists to give the heroine status by extension. He has power, so she has power. But that’s all there is to it. This makes these love interests extremely dull and reduces them to one-dimensional cheerleaders for their heroines.

It doesn't help that many them are said to be this macho feminist king who gives women choices but their personality are basically alpha male stereotype providers that sometimes takes away a women's agency.

These guys exist to solve all their problems to the point the FMC litterally doesn't have to do anything and gets away with everything. It dulls the story.

Yeah he believes that mythologies are the result of some inherent psychological firmware inherent to the human mind. He is like Jung, in that he wants human thought to be inherently meaningful in some way. Peterson wants there to be a correct way to think, a meaningful definition of Normal by which every human can be measured.

It's a comforting thought. Imagine being able to look back through history and determine who was acting rationally, in harmony with their psycho-mythological (read: Divine) programming, and who was not. Which bloody revolutions were terrible necessities, and which were unforgivable atrocities. It's an attempt to absolve morality from the history that shapes it.
