Hi, we go by the name Deer! We’re aromantic and genderfluid, but we use they/them only now be #proud of me

(dredge is an amazing lovecraftisn fishing game that I love dearly & highly reccomend. WARNING im very annoying about it a lot)

!! Most of our posts about DREDGE (particularly the characters) are tagged with #deepscale au. It’s a little canon-divergent in places which is why we don’t really tag it as the main game.

Papa me want more dreamscape lore

I’m not too sure what to say in this one so we’re going in depth on the character drives for Rb and Bg, aka , why the BALL are they like that…

Bg wants safety, and he finds it in complacency. Change is terrifying, wild and unpredictable. Why risk yourself when you have been surviving just fine as is? Sure the situation isn’t ideal, but at least you know what’s going to happen.

On the other hand, Rb wants freedom, the ability to change unrestricted. He doesn’t want to be forced down somewhere, forced to conform to the circumstances. This is HIS life, no one is allowed to determine it for him. After the betrayal, he becomes individualistic to a fault.

These opposites in ideals make them clash a LOT. It’s what drives them apart in the end of Act 1.

Eventually they’ll find a sort of middle ground. Change is necessary for growth, and humans weren’t made to do everything alone.

This one was so funn it came out p much exactly how I envisioned it!! some fun details below the cut :'']

the scenes are connected by the branch (the branch bridge in the fire scene vs the gathering tree's branch)

the star frame spins and turns into a square to represent holly's feeling of importance/being one of the three spirals away and she becomes like any other cat but Worse (yew branches grow around her square)

Grid is also meant to show how she wants everything orderly and in place/in her control, but as the gathering scene gets more chaotic despite (and because of) her attempt

from holly's mouth grows yew berries, both to indicate her next actions to confront leafpool with them but also i made one berry 'drip' down like blood to show she's still hiding the secret of killing ashfur

and ofc the paper burning away squirrel in the fire scene to reveal leafpool (in my mind this is leaf when she's in the med den being confronted by holly)

AH FORGOT TO MENTION: everyone else has yellow teeth except holly: yellow for fire scene = lies, and white for gathering scene = truth, as holly has this very self-righteous perspective that she's doing a good thing speaking the truth and while everyone else has been doing bad.

And! for most of the time holly's eyes have yellow light reflected in them as she's fixated on what was revealed during the fire scene, and only when it starts to sink in the impact her words had on the other cats in the gathering and she starts to panic is when her eyes have white highlights (from the full moon at the gathering)!

Why I think there is story potential for a transfem reading of the collector:

(We will use she/her for collector for this, even though we’re still debating making this canon for Deepscale)

It would interact interestingly with the whole mirror image issue.

As we know, Collector is a reflection of the Fisherman’s past self (a man). This part of her is tied very closely to her identity and self, even if she doesn’t have a very strong sense of self outside of her Purpose (bring Julie back).

Feeling like something is Wrong with that part of her would be very intriguing to watch her grapple with. Of course I don’t think she would realise during canon events (much less come to terms with it. maybe she realises too late. but more on this later) which I think would serve it even more. Something is Wrong with you but you don’t know what.

If she does Realise, I almost think it would fall into “disrespecting the dead” territory for her? How Dare You pretend you’re something else other than (the fisherman’s past self). How Dare You sully their image. Julie didn’t marry a woman. What Is Wrong With You. et cetera.

It would add a new layer to her grieving

It’s just. Maybe that’s why it lasted Twenty Years, you know? As the dust settles from Julie’s death, Collector is left feeling like she lost something. Which, sure, that’s to be expected, but it just feels like something else got lost overboard with her (J).

I have no doubt that we loved Julie. But I do also think she maybe could’ve envied her a little subconsciously. You’re so pretty (and I’m not). Your dresses look so lovely, and they match your scales so well (and they don’t fit me). Etc

I don’t knaowwww. generally. I think its Interesting to consider and Maybe it will get added to Deepscale but I don’t think its actually canon to DREDGE. I don’t knowww these aren’t even all my thoughts on it I’ll add more later maybe
