“Sadly even extremely is putting it lightly.” Raycn laughed, lifting the beer to his lips to take a drink. “The question is what didnt they do? But this time, my disappointment is focused on the American’s the were diluted enough to elect an orange as their president.Â
“It was only bound to happen, those are the same people that made the annoying orange a thing back then. Perhaps they’ve got a thing for the color?” He chuckled, shaking his head at his own comment. “I mean we’ll be around for a while right? So let’s just hope it doesn’t get worse.”Â
Andy nodded her head as Paul told her that gloves were for a Phoenix. It made it much easier for her to find what he actually needed. Going up on her tippy toes, she grabbed a basket from the shelf and began to look through it. “I actually do think we have a pair that are spelled to be able to withstand that level of flame.” Green eyes flickered over to the male, a smile curving on her lips. “And I can always make the spell stronger if I need to.”
Paul smiled awkward as she grabbed the gloves. It didn’t matter how much time could pass by there was part of him that would never get used to being a Phoenix. The smiled widened though when she mentioned being a witch, it was good running into someone that reminded him of his past. “Could you do that really? That was actually going to be the second part of my quest.”Â
Then what did you mean, the question echoed in the back of her mind, exhaustion from the excess use of her abilities kicking in. “And if they’re a baby? Or a toddler just learning to walk?” then again, this was exactly why Rayna refused to pick up any babysitting jobs on the side, she didn’t trust herself alone with kids, or anyone. “I didn’t even know phoenixes existed beyond the state, it’s not exactly some they teach in any school textbook.” she tried for humor though there was an underlying sarcasm to her tone, but as the conversation distracted her from the flames, they seemed to lessen. “It’s hard not to, but hey, worst case scenario is I join some freak circus and become a high-paid act.”
“Now you are over thinking it.” He commented. Yeah it was difficult knowing who could be around if the worst ever happened, but what was the point in living like that? Paul quietly listened to her, also thinking of his own experiences since he had become one. None of them were easy, but in one way or another they had helped him control himself a little better. “Me neither, but I made the mistake of going out to look for them, and by doing so I ended up learning something I didn’t know about myself” he explained. Now feeling really bad for the girl he chose to tell her the one thing he did that cause him harm but at least made him understand how much he was capable of. “There is one other thing you could do, you know? You could just let it all out.”
“Well yes, but it gets tiring to watch them repeat the same patterns every couple hundred years. I’m bored of the same old routine.”
“Ah, well if you are talking about hundreds of years then yes. I’m sure that’s extremely painful.” He agreed. “What did humanity do now anyways?”
Andy Andy sighed as she went back to counting down the register. Hearing Paul’s question, she glanced up her eyebrows furrowing. “Good question. Let me check.” Sliding off her stool, she made her way around the counter, towards one of the back shelves. “How hot are we talking?”Â
“Center of the earth hot? Actually I haven’t measured the temperature.” He explained, trying now hard to get an estimate. “It’s for a phoenix.” He finally said, hoping she would at least know how to better help him, since it was now becoming more apparent that he couldn’t help himself.Â
“No, I’m fine, it’s a nice change to have some company.” Mouse smiled softly, “Come and tell me everything you apparently need. I’m curious.”
“Alright, well, if you insist.” He teased in a dramatic manner before joining her. “I need fire extinguishers and heat resistant gloves. Sounds like I’m arsonist, I know, but I just don’t want to start accidently start a fire.” He explained without getting too detailed. “And tea would be nice too, now that I think about.”
“That doesn’t exactly bring any sense of comfort, burning anyone to a crisp is a horrid though and a child even more so, and by good reaction do you mean they burn faster because they’re smaller? Because if so, I wouldn’t really view that as a plus.” Rayna felt her temper rising again at the prospect, knowing it was mostly herfault for  bringing it up, but she’d HOPED he’d offer some sort of reassurance. “How can I believe that when even the smallest rise in temper ends in me setting something to flame?”
“No, that’s not what I meant.” Paul shook his head, knowing that he was really bad at this but still feeling the need to at least try. “Children are less resistant to drastic temperatures so they are bound to move out of the way a lot faster than adults.” He explained. “It’s not meant to be easy and I’m no expert since I was something completely different before I had to deal with this. I hated what had happened and anger became a big problem but I had to let go of it to help control it. It’s not easy, or perfect but I haven’t set anything alight yet so.. don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s not worth it in the long run.”
A light rosy pink tinted the curve of her cheek bone, embarrassed by the mess. “it’s fine now, but what happens when i’m not around another phoenix and i lose control, what if i maim a child or WORSE?”
“Well, I really don’t think there’s anything worse than burning a child to crisps... but they have a good reaction to heat...” He drifted off, knowing that perhaps he was just making things worse. “Sorry, I’m not usually good at pep talks, but you’ve just go to belive you can control it. At least I can say that’s what helps me.”
Mouse glanced up from the coffee cup currently situated at her lips. After taking a long sip, she lowered the cup, a small smile curving on her lips. “Something you need?”
“Need? Well yeah, that’s a bit of an open ended questions and unfortunately I do need a lot of things... but I don’t mean to bother your tea moment, so don’t worry.”
“Shop is closing in 10 minutes, so I would advise that you look fast.”  Though her words seemed rude, her tone was soft as she looked up from the register, she had been there all day and the last thing she wanted to do was have to keep the store open longer for a last minute shopper.
“Fast? Okay, well there’s the pressure.” He murmured mostly under his breath as he looked around the shelves. “Have you got any metal resistant gloves? To handle hot metals that is... or am I in a completely different store”
“FUCK” the petite brunette cursed under her breath as her entire being was engulfed with flames the instant the other interrupted her concentration, more angry with herself than the other. “That doesn’t always happen,” the young phoenix glanced over her shoulder, frown pursed on her plump lips as she looked at the other apologetically. “I’m still learning…I’ll get BETTER,” she scorned in promise to both the other and herself.Â
“Uh, yeah sure.” Paul replied, not feeling too surprised by the flames that had surrounded her. “It happens to me as well so, it’s fine, really. It’s not like a little fire is going to kill me.”
I could’ve sworn I just saw FINN JONES wandering about the town. Oh no, that’s just PAUL DELACOUR. She is a TWENTY SIX year old ZOOLOGIST. They came to Stillwater because they are a PHOENIX and want to be around others like them. Some say she is ADVENTUROUS and WITTY, but I’ve heard others say she is IMPATIENT and UNRELIABLE.
Not So Quick Intro:
-Paul was born in Caen, France and was adopted by some rich witch lady from Paris. He grew up with her and her three daughters.
-Though born with magic, Paul also carried the phoenix gene, something he didn’t know until later on.
-His life growing up consisted of a strict upbringing, which he didn’t enjoy very much.  When he came back from a quick vacation, shit hit the fan and his sisters told him the truth about being adopted. That, plus a bunch of other drama forced him to leave them.
-He studied zoology but eventually went on to research the existence of phoenixes. While researching in Greece he had a misencounter with a coven of witches that proclaimed to be the originators of the phoenix “curse”. They forced his phoenix gene to manifest itself and all traces of magic he once had vanished the moment he was reborn as a phoenix.
-Personality-wise, Paul is super chill and laid back and only loses his cool when his past is brought up. He truly regrets losing his magic and now having to live as an almost immortal being, but he usually doesn’t let that bring him down (most of the time).
Plots:
Phoenix Drama: This one can be interesting because I think it would be cool for him to have a run with one of the witches that turned the Phoenix gene on for him after he pissed them off.
Adoptive Family Drama: He left them after an argument that ensued after he left them for a few weeks to discover more things about magic on his own. His adoptive sisters weren’t too happy with him after what he had done and told him that true about his past which caused him to leave. Basically it would be interested if they met up again… I had emphasized they were witches but if you are interested and have a different species, I can try to change things around, I don’t mind!
Biological Family Drama: Based on the information given above, it would also be interesting for him to meet his real family. (Phoenixes or wix only).
Ex-Betrothed Drama: This is one of the main reasons he left his family, he was unwilling to marry another witch and hence seal some centuries old deal between the covens. (Doesn’t have to be an affectionate relationship, we can discuss their relationship! :])
“Funny how that comes from the guy that left his family to avoid marriage.” He complained, shaking his head. “Things have changed…and I just don’t want to let them win. They have no right to decide for me when all they care about is their reputation and businesses.”
"You know quite well that my situation was different. I knew they weren't going to chase after me after I found out I was adopted." He said, calmly. "What exactly has changed? Sure Amelie set everything up but you still have control of the problem. You have way more control than you think."
