A friend of mine has come out as a demigirl, but is just suffering through dysphoria. I really want to help them, but i don't know how best since I don't really experience dysphoria... at least i dont think so--but this isn't about me. this is about my friend. So I just wanted to ask if you happen to have any advice for someone who's very recently figured out they're a demigirl?
Hi sorry it took me a while to respond!
I'm so sorry that your friend is suffering with dysphoria 😢
Here are some things that might help from personal experience (or from close friends' experiences) and from online.
If they're feminine and trying to appear more androgynous:
I don't have heaps of experience with dysphoria(I myself only recently figured out I was a demigirl), but something I recommend is cutting your hair (if it's possible for them to do that). I haven't cut my hair yet, but I plan on doing it, and I have friends who have felt a lot better after cutting their hair. Your friend can do some research online for androgynous haircuts.
Another thing that might help is wearing a binder (or something that has similar effects, because I know binders can be difficult for people to acquire, especially for young people). If they can't get a binder, I've heard some people use tight sports bras/tight singlets instead.
Dressing more androgynous is also very helpful. I recommend having them look up inspiration (Pinterest is a good way to find inspo). I've heard the cut of a shirt can also be quite important, so looking into that could be a help to them.
If they're masculine and trying to appear more feminine/androgynous: (You didn't specify so I decided to put tips for both) I really don't have any personal experience with this so pretty much all of this is stuff I've found online
I've heard shaping your brows can help you appear more feminine? They could look at some tutorials online. Also just wearing some light makeup in general, ie: mascara, blush. Just subtle things like that (because I realise not everyone can wear obvious makeup)
Wearing jewellery can also be helpful, as well as painting nails, and things like that.
Dressing more fem/androgynous
Some things that might help them feel better, even if its not visible to other people/other people might not notice:
Wearing fem/masc undergarments (depending on what they want to appear more of)
Shaving/not shaving (legs, arms, armpits, etc)
Using more feminine/masculine scented hygiene products such as soaps, conditioner, deodorant, etc.
I hope this was helpful for them, and I'm sorry I couldn't give more personal advice <3
