@demohedrogon
May 4, 2026 - On this Dodenherdenking (day for remembrance of the dead) I decided to take a little walk to the Truus van Lier monument.
Truus van Lier was an antifascist resistance hero from Utrecht, who as a member of the leftist resistance group CS-6, helped shelter Jewish people from the Nazis, couriered weapons, messages, and underground newspapers for the antifascist Resistance, and engaged in armed resistance against the Nazis and the Dutch fascist NSB collaborators.
On September 3, 1943, 22-year old Truus van Lier assassinated fascist police commissioner Gerard Kerlen near the Willemsplantsoen in Utrecht. He was an NSB member, and was about to have a group of Jewish people and resistance members arrested.
Sadly, after the assassination she was betrayed and caught, and taken to German concentration camp Sachsenhausen. Together with two other Resistance women, Reina Prinsen Geerligs and Nel Hissink, Truus van Lier was executed on October 27, 1943. Witnesses stated that the three women walked to the firing squad singing and with their heads held high.
Even though it was pretty late and rainy, at the memorial there were many people stopping to take pictures and to read the wreaths and plaque. I took a quick (read: shitty) picture of the statue and also of the mural with a poem about her in a nearby street:
Some people have described the movement against police and white supremacy that emerged into the public eye in May 2020 as a "failure" because it didn't win legislative changes.
But the Twin Cities have been able to stand up to ICE because of networks that developed at that time.
Changing a system that exists to perpetrate oppression is the work of decades. What is needed is not a minor reform that can be implemented politicians, but the kind of structural change that requires long-term grassroots struggle.

i am of the sincere belief that if ur on ur computer a lot you should visually customize it to high hell and back not just for funsies but also because it has literally made me less depressed before. its kind of like how rearranging your bedroom is good for your brain, yknow. i do stuff like this every few months
and if anyone wants to follow suit
LIVE WALLPAPER: wallpaper engine. only thing on here that costs any money (its like 5 bucks on steam). im sure theres free alternatives but this one has a lot of presets and stuff so its less hassle and its what i use. might be a bad idea for lower end pcs tho
CUSTOM TASKBAR: retrobar on github (lots of different options)
CUSTOM CURSOR: theres a lot of places to find these, but rw-designer open cursor library is a good place to start
DISCORD: betterdiscord, im using the clearvision v7 theme with a custom background
EXTENSIONS (these are for firefox, might or might not exist on other browsers):
tabliss for the new tab theme
stylus for tumblr -> specifically the 'tumblr - custom dashboard pallette' theme for colors + bg, and this for the pre-twitterifcation layout
enhancer for youtube for custom youtube colors
the browser theme is just one i found on the firefox theme 'store'
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.

IN THE COURT OF THE NAMELESS QUEEN: A collection of dark fantasy f/f erotica about sexy swashbuckling swordswomen (both cis and normal) and a giant scary monster lady in a far-off realm of adventure and dark magic.

Is your landlord invading your privacy? Is your apartment heated inadquately? Do your utilities keep getting shut off because your landlord isn’t paying? Have you been trying to get them to repair your dishwasher for five months and they won’t replace the spray arm part even though it’s visibly broken?
You’ve heard of employee unions using collective bargaining to force the bosses to provide better pay and better working condiditions. But did you know if you rent an apartment in an apartment complex, you can do something similar?
It’s called a Tenant Association, and it’s basically a union for renters.
Here’s an overview of the why and how of forming a tenant association
Here’s a more thorough organizing manual
When it comes down to it, you and your fellow tenants are the ones paying your landlord’s salary. Go remind them of that.
