my daughter passed away a few days ago from pneumonia caused by covid and ive been distraught. she's been sick sonce december and honestly I thought I'd be the one to pass from the cancer. if you can share this, the whole family would appreciate it.

‘Why I never want babies’
An increasing number of South Korean women are choosing not to marry, not to have children, and not even to have relationships with men. With the lowest fertility rate in the world, the country’s population will start shrinking unless something changes.
“I have no plans to have children, ever,” says 24-year-old Jang Yun-hwa, as we chat in a hipsterish cafe in the middle of Seoul.
“I don’t want the physical pain of childbirth. And it would be detrimental to my career.”
Like many young adults in South Korea’s hyper-competitive job market, Yun-hwa, a web comic artist, has worked hard to get where she is and isn’t ready to let all that hard graft go to waste.
“Rather than be part of a family, I’d like to be independent and live alone and achieve my dreams,” she says.

When I put it to her that if she and her contemporaries don’t have children her country’s culture will die, she tells me that it’s time for the male-dominated culture to go.
“Must die,” she says, breaking into English. “Must die!”

This reminds me of a post I read a while ago of an SBS Chuseok Special (aired as a way of a response to the intensifying gender friction in South Korea) about an Uzbek woman married to a Korean man, which was literally nothing more than an ad for multicultural marriages and foreign wives.

This alone is disgusting, but what actually made my blood boil is the fact that, looking at some of the comments, it seems this ad passed off as a “documentary” worked:
Here’s an article on increase in intercultural marriages in South Korea.
Basically: In recent years, the number of mixed marriages has increased substantially and international marriages now make up more than 13% of all marriages. The bulk of these “mixed” marriages are between Korean men and foreign women. Many arranged through brokers where the Korean men paid around 10 million won or more for their wives or through mass weddings by the Unification Church. The “couples” generally don’t know each other, don’t speak the other’s language and know little or nothing about the other’s culture.
The foreign women are usually abused by their husbands and his family because their rights are limited, as South Korea still has no race related anti-discrimination laws; Foreigners (most commonly being Asians from other countries and regions) are paid lower than the minimum wage, have their wages withheld, work under unsafe conditions, suffer physical abuse or general denigration.. And this racism is only increasing, because South Korea is making immigration easier by promoting multicultural marriages, because of the low birth rate.
Sure, some international marriages turn out decent, however the area between international marriages and human trafficking can get very murky. And, in general, the mail-order bride industry is actually considered a “softer version” of human trafficking. – Yet these men are OK with it. The government is OK with it. Anything to combat the problem of low-birth rates, as it seems.

I think that’s actually more compliacted. It dosn’t need to die but if you don’t want a relationsip with men because of well masculinity then you should maybe consider marrying a woman? If your anyway bisexual.
Idk giving up on everything because men are shitty dosn’t seem resonable? I mean there’s good things in korean (as in most) cultures. There’s no need to involve men in it’s unpholding, obviously, but still must die seems wrong.
The patriacy isn’t the worlds cultures.
Gay marriage isn’t recognized in South Korea. There’s a push for domestic partnerships to be recognized but only for heterosexual couples. I think part of keeping the culture implied here is passing the culture onto children. Even if two women wanted to cohabitate and have kids without pregnancy, they couldn’t adopt since South Korea doesn’t allow single parents to adopt and they would be considered two single parents. There was a push to allow single parent adoption in 2021 but I can’t find any updated information on it

Let’s talk about police violence against women.
greatly under-discussed… violence against the women they harass, violence against the women in their custody, violence against their partners and female family members… the “non-violent” ones that look the other way for the overtly-violent ones… the same ones that intimidate the partners/victims of the overtly-violent ones to keep them from pursuing justice… I think these sort of behaviors are likely more prevalent than we can even imagine…

A lil off-topic but also kinda related, the fact that jails/prisons don’t keep enough pads is such a ridiculous ‘oversight’ as to be considered, in my strong opinion, a form of intentional torture/violence, bc I must assume the lack of hygiene causes problems for those women unlucky enough to find themselves without (tho thankfully their fellow women are also often the types to totally help each other out with stuff like that when bastard men/police won’t…)
If rich assholes get to have hotel-prisons then carrying more than enough pads in every jail in our country should be shamefully simple, and it is.

My sister works at a battered women’s shelter and the cops call them on the regular looking for people. The shelter won’t tell them so they routinely verbally harass, threaten, and attempt to intimidate the woman who answers the phone (there aren’t any men working there because it’s a women only facility.). Sometimes the cops are looking for a given woman for a criminal offense (a lot of them are involved in drugs and sex work which, while I personally don’t find these things immortal, they are illegal.), but half the time is because the cop IS the abuser and the shelter knows that the chances are high that he’s calling because of that.
Let’s also remember police workers using police resources to harass/hurt and in some cases kill women and cover it up. And the fact that “the police” - the wonderful omni presence which is a container for apples not at all people or sth - allowed this to happen.
Police workers can look up anybodies address and public record - without needing proof that its necessary or with documentation. If a record is closed - at least in my country it means you cannot access it in “basic” data bank - you fill out a request and by entering a badge number your identity is verified. It is not questioned why you need a file. You only need proof that you are a “higher ranking” police worker - a detective having more access than a “street cop”.
There is no accountability whatsoever. And a feeling of entitlement to your data. As if the price for “upholding the law” is your absolute - let’s not kid ourselves - female submission.
Also, a reminder that all brothels work with cops for protection and coverage and all trafficking rings have cops in them in both leading and covering positions. Trafficking literally can’t function without cops inside
That fact about personal records is terrifying as someone who knows a bit about clinical research. Even in cases where someone’s private, identifiable information (names, addresses, etc) is necessary for the study (and you must PROVE FIRST that it is necessary) there are sooo many guidelines and regulations. There are rules about who can access that info, how it can be stored, how it can and cannot be used, and what the consequences are for people who use it for unauthorized reasons.
THIS right here is the result of depp v heard. men treating women defending themselves as abusers. i hate what this trial has done for women.

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.
The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.
So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”

Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.
Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.
It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.

We have activities which help everyone get involved, such as question of the day, weekly art challenge, weekly themed outfit activity, a bookclub, movie and game nights, music and study room VC channels, a shared sims village, a server exlusive minecraft server, etc. You don’t have to join anything you’re uncomfortable with though! We also have our own server exclusive masterdocs with resources.
There are also channels for discussions/debates on feminism, science, and current events if you are interested. It is not required to be a radfem, but that is the leaning of most of our members.
