“Do you feel that da’len ? It should be around–“ The elder elf lifted her hand and shone a pale light down a hallway and at the end– “Oh! Oh, its–“
Bellara’s eyes widened and she had to hold an excited cry from escaping her throat – and all she allowed was a gasp, “ Its huge!” She turned to Merrill who looked just as pleased as she was, “ Do you think –,”
“ One way to find out –“ Merrill smiled, “ But it does look well preserved – one of the best I’ve ever seen, actually – and I do not sense any corruption,”
Bellara grinned and rushed down the hall towards the towering Eluvian. The elder elf was right, there was no corruption – only a dark, rippling glass, scarred by a terrible crack near it’s centre. It seemed as though someone had punched through the glass – or thrown something very large at it. Or an arrow or a spear– that would make sense for the height, but not the size of the hole. No, but the good thing was that it seemed that the glass was broken from this side – and not from the other side.
She ran her hand across the dark waves and up the terrible cracks, feeling dust gather at her fingertips, “ We can fix this. Where do you think this led to?,”
Merrill leaned closer, her eyes shining with excitement, ” An Eluvian this wide, and in this kind of hall? It was likely used as a main road between Arlathan and a key city – which one – oh, that’s what we’ll find out once we fix it, I expect. Just imagine, this hall would have been bustling with hundreds of elves coming back and forth every day,”
“ And I’m sure that there would’ve been shops and vendors just outside–,” Bellara bounced on her heels. She looked around and could picture it so clearly, “ Oh, this must’ve been such a wonderful place to be,”
“ Yes,” Merrill straightened and stepped to the side of the Eluvian, and touched the lyrium crystal that was still in-laid into the resonance mechanism. The elder elf whispered something that Bellara didn’t catch, and the crystal began to glow– faintly, then brighter and brighter, pulsing in a steady rhythm, “ Even after all this time– It’s still working, but it cannot find it’s pair. But it is still attuned – hm,”
Bellara nodded, raising her arms, and inviting the flow of magic through her hands and into the dark ripples, “ Then we need to fix the glass first – and hopefully that would strengthen the connection,”
“ You’re learning so quickly,” Merrill chuckled and mirrored her movements, and in a moment, Bellara noticed that the cracks in the glass began to recede and repair.
“ With your guidance,”
“ Well, I’ve had a lot of time to make and learn from my mistakes,” Merrill turned to her, “ I can only pray that I’m guiding you on the paths I should have taken when I was your age,”
