I keep forgetting this blog exists, whoops! It’s actually a goal of mine for this summer/year to get more stuff done for Syntax, though, so I will start posting more concept art and worldbuilding info here~

It’s still a work in progress and the pages need updated, but please feel free to drop in any questions you have about the characters and universe of Syntax in the meantime!

After doing the worldbuilding work for the fourth day of Worldbuilding June (theme: history) I was inspired to draw this very cool historical figure from my story: Pax! Her outfit is more like something you’d see the kids wearing on Pax in present day, though... (The planet was named after her, fyi.)

Why the name Syntax?

One definition of Syntax is “a connected or orderly system; harmonious arrangement of parts or elements” which fits well with the concept of my story.

The universe has an order and harmony to it, there is a syntax to the stars.

So Shin. What do you want out of this adventure? What made you jump on board the ship? Nao, do your burns hurt still? How far do your cyborg abilities go? So why did Shin follow you, you think, Jace? Meera, what's it like living with a bunch of boys? And Cody, how do you keep calm through it all?

SHIN:“What do I want from this adventure?  Fun!  I was bored.  Jace is pretty cool, too - he’s been my best friend ever since he rescued me!  I’d like to keep traveling with him.  Adventure’s his middle name, and I always wanted to go on an adventure!  Just like in all those books I never read…”

NAO:“…”

{ Nao you have to answer, this question has been in the box a LONG time… }

“Sometimes my scars ache, yes, but not like they used to.  I still get ‘phantom pain’ as well.  I have not tested ‘how far’ my abilities can go, I would rather not break something…”

JACE:“That’s a weird question.  I think he just wanted my stuff at first…  He stole my bag and took off with it, and to get it back I had to save his sorry ass from some other guys he pissed off.  Trouble is his middle name, I swear.  Why he’s still following me, though, I have no idea.  He’s kind of annoying.”

{ Shinta, care to comment? }

“I already answered my designated questions… he’s not entirely wrong, tho.  Except about my ass, which is not sorry.”

“…”

MEERA:“It’s not so bad… except when they forget to shower.  I mean, I have an older brother.  I know how to deal with boys.”

CODY:“This is a trick question, ain’t it?  I don’t.  I’m just good at puttin’ my frustrations to better use. I learned a long time ago that it doesn’t pay off to snap at every little thing that bugs you.”
