Stolen Moments|Astrid & Rennie
Astrid was pretty shocked by Rennie’s visit. He was literally the last person on Earth she expected to see. Here he was talking about how he left her and she was stewing on how she’d embarrassed herself with her behavior. Being outside was a good distraction but she didn’t want Rennie to think he’d done something wrong. She was the fucked up one. Sometimes it was hard thinking about her past and let’s face it, if she could erase it all she would. Even now she was remembering that life before 14 could not have been that grand if Ben was so willing to turn on a dime destroying everything Addison and Astrid could have been. Astrid lowered her eyes as he apologized staring at her nimble fingers as if they held some secret to her existence. She couldn’t find her words while he was expressing himself and felt that familiar burn of tears in her eyes. She was an emotional wreck and needed to chalk it up to being in Reinholdt. Wiping at tears that had not yet fallen Astrid gave Rennie a shy smile. “That is very sweet of you. You do know I am crazy though, right? Like certifiable? I see dead people,” she joked. “I am happy you came out here. It is pretty cool to see a familiar face that isn’t flesh and blood, but do you even know what you are getting yourself in to when you say you want to be my friend?”
Her mood swings were becoming bothersome. One moment she could be happy and relishing the little things in life and the next she was going off the deep end. The cold, hard truth was no one could be her friend unless they knew and understood what she’d been through. It was weird with Rennie because he was a cop, just like Flynn, and yet there was something about him she trusted. Not only could she trust him but he carried around this weight in his eyes and even though she couldn’t peg what it was Astrid felt it was something that would bond them. Maybe he hated his father too? Maybe his father was an abusive prick?
“We can be whatever you want, Rennie. I mean that. I just ask that you’re not jerking me around, ya know? Like oh we can be friends but once I find out your dark secrets I’m outta here.” She mocked his tone with a smile. “And don’t you worry about Alex, I am a big girl. I might talk to the dead but I can totally take care of myself.” Astrid laughed. Hearing herself ramble on to him made it perfectly clear why she was in Reinholdt to begin with. The poor girl needed help. The sad fact was she would likely get it and Addison would continue denying the truth. Her sister needed help too and there would be nothing Astrid could do about it because as much as the twins loved each other Addison would never listen to reason. She was the more fucked up of the two, now wasn’t she? Astrid was crazy but her madness lied in the hands of Flynn Mercer because she trusted him with every little detail of her past and he used it against her. She wondered if Rennie would too, but at the same time he wasn’t there to take her on a date he was checking up as a friend. No harm could come of it, right?
Rennie could see the shock on her face when she saw who her guest was and it made him feel uneasy. Being a confident person was his normal state of being but these feelings when he was around Astrid were all new. Not that he was running away from them, though tempting as it was to run away when things became difficult he refused to inherit that part of his father. The only words he seemed to be able to get out were apologies and where he hoped they would ease the tension he found himself looking at the top of her head instead. Cursing silently to himself he knew he was making a royal fuck up of things and he didn’t know how to fix it. The truth was that something about Astrid spoke to him on some level he didn’t understand. All he did understand was that he wanted to be in her company and he wanted to be a friend to her, as best a friend as she would let him be. He opened his mouth to comment on the tears but seeing the smile she put forth he closed it. It was obviously not something to be called out on and he would leave it that way, at the very least tucked away for now. Arching a brow he couldn’t help a smile, “Wasn’t there a movie about a kid seeing dead people? It was a blockbuster if I remember correctly, so I wouldn’t worry too much.” Letting out breath he was unaware of holding he smiled again, glad that she was embracing him being there. Sitting down on the bench he shrugged, “Do you know what you’re getting into being my friend?” He asked, turning his body towards her. “I don’t think we ever know, so we just take the journey. If you’re trying to scare me off, it’s not working.”
There was a part of his life he never spoke of. None of his partners ever knew, none of his girlfriends, not even the therapist at work knew. It was a secret buried so deep in his mind that sometimes he could pretend it didn’t exist. Unfortunately it did exist, and though he didn’t understand it, he knew now that he had to tell her. Rennie didn’t know all the details of what she had been through, but what he did know was that she trusted Flynn and he did more than break that he destroyed it. Wrapped in his own thoughts he was pulled free when she spoke to him. “I’m not jerking you around Astrid.” Letting out a laugh he gave a shake of his head, “I’m sure you can take care of yourself.”
Turning his body fully to face her he felt the old self-loathing, pain, and anger rise up in his chest. The words were there and he knew now there was no going back. “I meant what I said when I asked if you knew what you were getting into being my friend?” He said quietly, reaching in his coat to pull out cigarettes and offer her one. Lighting one up he leaned back and closed his eyes. “When I was nine years old my life changed completely, though it was not the first time it was the worst.” His eyes opened on their own accord, he had to see her face. “My dad left when I was eight, he had a mistress or whatever you want to call it, on the side and he left my mother for her. That was hard enough, you know, and stupid me didn’t think it could be worse. That’s the thing about thinking that though isn’t it? It can always be worse.” Taking another puff of his cigarette he slowly exhaled the smoke. “Nine years old, altar boy at church. My mother was, no is, super religious, and I had to be confirmed, serve in the church, blah, blah, blah. Then one day, the priest, we were alone and he . . .” Rennie had never said the words out loud, not even when he told his mother, he wrote it out to her, let her figure out the pieces. “He made me perform oral sex on him,” he said his tone void of emotion, but tears in his eyes. “There was the whole it can’t get worse piece again.” Being masculine fell by the waist side, tears fell down his cheeks as he was that little boy again. “For months it went on, until it wasn’t enough and he . . .” Now was the pivotal moment, looking at her, right in the eyes, “he raped me.” A quiet sob escaped and his head fell to his chest as his shoulders shook with the quiet sobs. Rennie didn’t know why he told her something he never told anyone but the words hung like a heavy weight between them, his breath stuck in his throat as he waited for her to say something, anything to let him know he could still be her friend.
Finding the In | Mace & Rennie
For the record, Weed, California was as horrible as it sounded. Outside of the beautiful view of Mount Shasta there was little else to do. They’d checked in to a dingy motel that once had a pool, but it was off season so there was just a big cement whole in the ground filled with pine needles and rusty, peeling paint. They’d driven out to where the site was of the Cutler Compound and could understand the suspicions. It was huge and not just a place you could drive on to. There had to be a way to get in with someone from the cult but there were few leads. Asking around a town as small as Weed would only make them stand out and as it stood they were strangers.
A few days in a row they’d watched the place and saw no movement. This assignment truly was punishment. Finally on the fourth day there was activity. A lanky blonde woman was seen leaving the place and heading in to town. All the data that had been compiled showed the compound was self-sustaining and Rennie and Mace were thinking this was accurate until the woman headed in to town and straight to the grocery store. Watching her closely she shopped for things like flour and other baking goods. She didn’t buy any meat or vegetables and nothing processed. That wasn’t really strange in itself but it showed they place didn’t have the means to make its own flour. She also stopped at the local hardware store and even though they didn’t see what she’d purchased Mace did watch her hang a sign on the corkboard by the door before leaving.
Mace snapped a picture headed back to the motel where Rennie was busying himself updating their superiors. After the events that led them to Weed in the first place the two men decided it would be better if Rennie did all the talking. Once Rennie finished Mace handed his phone to him with the picture open. “Our blonde hung this up. Sounds like your cup of tea, right? I think we found our in.”
@detectiverennie
Rennie threw another dart at the board in front of him, one he picked up cheap at the local Wal-Mart a few days ago. He needed something to busy his mind and hands or else he might be tempted to wrap them around Mace’s neck for getting them stuck here. The local Wal-Mart, that was a laugh, nothing was close to where they were and it was a ride of at least twenty minutes to get anywhere. Shaking his head he threw another dart at the board, letting the chair he tilted back hit the floor. Rubbing at his eyes he knew it was time to take another read in the files, praying once again he would find something, anything that could get them inside and start this investigation.
At this point the men were alternating who stayed in the motel and who went out to the compound. Today was Mace’s day to stare at the grass grow, Rennie would make their weekly check in and hang out. It had only been a few days here in Weed but already he felt like he had entered a life in purgatory. Before reading through the folder again Rennie made the call to their superiors, they were still looking, nothing had shown up and as soon as it did he would call again. It felt more like he was reciting a speech at this point, but what choice did he have?
Hearing the truck pull up, earlier than usual he peaked out the curtain to see Mace coming inside. Arching a brow as he took Mace’s phone, hanging up his own a large smile formed on his lips. Clapping Mace on the back he chuckled, “I think we did find our in. Yeah, I can do this in my sleep.” Nodding he picked up his phone and dialed the number, setting up an appointment to meet with someone in town the next day. “I wonder if big man himself will meet us or our blonde.” Calling her that sounded strange, as he didn’t even know her name, but for now she was going to be their ticket out of Weed, or so he prayed.

Stolen Moments|Astrid & Rennie
Astrid thought seeing her siblings had been nice even though she was sure she was stand-offish to everyone but Addison. Seeing Alex was the most difficult since he was the one who’d gotten her locked up to begin with but she loved him and deep down she struggled with that anger. Alex Rollins would sacrifice everything for his siblings if he could the problem was he wasn’t always ahead of the game – tending to catch things as they were falling rather than moving them so they never fell to begin with. She loved him and had even been able to tell him that but the distance that had grown between her and her brothers was only getting bigger. She knew she was seeing things and rather than saying something she hid it from everyone. Em being hurt triggered something dramatic in her – that and seeing that bastard Pavlo manhandling her twin. She had been seeing Flynn everywhere prior to her new placement but now that she was safe within the walls of the coo-coo house it was like he couldn’t penetrate them.
Expecting Andy or Addison, Rennie was quite the shocker. He smiled making the girl bit the inside of her cheek to keep her own smile from forming. He was a good looking man but Astrid had a wretched past with good looking men – Rennie could only be another bad choice on a long list of bad choices. Still, he mentioned getting to go outside and that he’d gotten permission for it. Three weeks with no fresh air was killing the former athlete, even if she did have a drug addiction. “You really came to see me?” Her words flew out of her mouth. Anyone who knew Astrid knew she had zero filter. “I would love to go outside. Hope I don’t have to dress up for it. I am not sane enough for shoes yet. I still have to wear the fuzzy socks.” Looking down at her feet she finally smiled. “What do you think, it matches right? I look like a drunken med student. It’s the new chic.”
Standing there waiting she let him lead the way as several orderlies unlocked doors for them. The fresh air hit her face and Astrid had to take a moment to close her eyes and smell the fresh air. Making things even better the sky was blue and the sun was shining down. She stuck her hand out in the rays admiring it’s warmth as her demeanor shifted. Not all her memories were horrible and true to form the words absconded before she could stop them, “don’t you love how nostalgic the sun makes you feel. Like you’re in a dream or taken back to the happiest parts of your childhood?” Happiness and childhood were not two words she commonly associated but really it was her teen years that sucked. “So you wanted to visit me? Why? Is Alex okay?”
Rennie wasn’t sure how this visit would be perceived, and he was more worried about how Astrid took it than Alex. Not to say he wasn’t worried Alex would be angry, because truthfully he didn’t want an angry Alex, but he was more worried about stressing out Astrid. Part of him felt guilty that she was here, after all he hadn’t done anything to alleviate the tension when she undressed in front of him, he had simply left. She was fragile, how many times had Alex said that, and all he did was leave. On the other hand Rennie knew himself, and if he had stayed he was positive he would blur some lines and wouldn’t that make things worse? Astrid had trust issues with cops, and why she shouldn’t, and he would simply have been taking advantage of her. He liked her though, admired her lack of a verbal speed bump and letting herself say whatever she thought and felt. Rennie wished he could be that free but knew he was too held up in social conventions. In the end he had shown up here to visit her and wasn’t really sure where this would go if anywhere. Rubbing the back of his neck as he sat in his car before going inside he was tempted to drive off, but he really did want to see her. Throwing caution to the wind, praying it didn’t have a negative impact on her he went inside. Perhaps it was why he had stressed they have the privilege to outside, he was sure being cooped up was not helping her mental state and a little fresh air would be good, plus he had snuck in cigarettes and could give her one out there.
Standing and giving her a wide smile he could see the confusion on her face but it was quickly replaced with a smile when he mentioned going outside. Nodding at her he smirked, “Yeah I did, hope that’s okay.” When she kept going he felt himself relax into the easy banter and let out a deep laugh. “Fuzzy socks are the bomb though, and nah I wouldn’t say drunken med student more like med student in a cold dorm studying for finals.” Giving her a wink he nodded, “It’s very chic and much better than shoes any day.” Heading out they had to wait for doors to be unlocked but soon the cool air was in their face and the warm sunshine lit the lighter brown streaks in her hair. He couldn’t help but take a moment to admire the beauty of it, but had to quickly shake those thoughts away, because there was no doubt that Alex would kill him if he had any sexual thoughts about Astrid.
Rennie stood back and watched her enjoy the warmth of the sun, even more glad that he had gotten permission for this. Closing his eyes a moment he raised his face to the sun, “Yes I do. It’s like getting to play outside until all hours because it got dark so late.” Opening his eyes again he looked at her, “Alex is fine, and so are your other siblings, I wanted to see you, no other reason.” Motioning to a bench sitting in direct sun he started slowly walking. “I guess I wanted to apologize for how I left things. I mean I just walked out and didn’t come to check on you again.” Waiting for her to sit before he joined her, “I mean I think we’re friends and I wasn’t a very good one.” Opening his jacket pocket he showed her the cigarettes. “Want one? Give me a chance to be a better friend?”
Off to Nowhere | Mace & Rennie
Mace was fully aware he deserved to be hit. It never failedthat he would overstate his case no matter what the look on his superior’s facewas. For a man that had received numerous commendations he’d been on plenty ofshit lists. This took the cake though; being shipped off to someplace calledWeed made him feel unappreciated. Making matters worse, Rennie was yet againsuffering the consequences. As they walked back to their desks Mace knew hispartner was holding back his frustration. What he couldn’t tell is if that aggravationwas directed toward him or the D.A.D. She was a hard ass woman who’d only recentlybeen promoted and seemed to go rounds with any man that didn’t follow herinstructions verbatim.
“Wasn’t the right choice? I hope you’re talking about mearguing with Director Markham and not about jumping the gun on Burke and Rood’scase. You and I both know that little girl would be dead had we not intervened.”It wasn’t fair to put Rennie on the spot like this but since they were aloneMace needed to know Rennie was 100% by his side. Rubbing his facial hair againat the man’s comment, “You have facial hair too and this beard looks damn good.”Mace smiled hoping to finally change the subject. Even though he hated the ideaof being sent away he knew well enough it was an actual case with real lives atstake. The Federal Bureau of Investigation only wasted money on officesupplies. If expenses were being covered for this journey to nowhere there hadto be a legitimate reason.
Taking a seat, Jensen opened the case file andspread the documents out. There were two pictures included. The people ofinterest were brothers, both lawyers. Crispin Porter, the elder was a publicrelations attorney and apparently a damn good one. His financials were throughthe roof and from the looks of it was on retainer with more than one wealthybastard paying a hefty sum just to look good on paper. The younger of the twowas the main target. Silas Cutler was the apparent leader of what had all theappearances of being a cult. Cutler owned a rather large amount of acreage inWeed, California and recruited people to live on the compound. It was veryreminiscent of Waco which is exactly what they were hoping to avoid. With DavidKoresh the FBI used his taxes as an excuse to invade the property and alongwith the ATF the entire show turned in to a huge debacle. It was blatantlyclear to Jensen the words we are tryingto avoid another Waco was not referring to the crazy cult leader but ratherthe FBI and ATF flubbing the case and 80 people including children dying. TheBranch Davidians made history because of the stand-off, not because theirleader was Jesus reincarnate. “You think this guy is the real deal? I mean Idon’t see anything in here about religious connotations? Are they under the microscopebecause they live away from society?”
As much as he threatened to hit Mace he really wouldn’t, they were partners for one thing, friends even, and beyond that Rennie had agreed with Mace. It was why he had stood up for his partner; the only thing he didn’t agree with was that Mace didn’t know when to stop talking. Often times that was what got him into more trouble, the inability to stop when he had made his point,many times crossing over the line into badgering. Despite their current predicament, and being sent to hell on earth, or rather nowhere-ville, Rennie held a lot of respect for Mace, not that he was about to share that, the man’s head was big enough, his ego filling a room. That brought a smile to Rennie’s face, because truth was he wasn’t much better and sometimes could be worse. Sitting down at his desk, pulling off the tie he hated wearing he looked up at Mace and sighed. “It’s not a matter of making the right call, you know she likes everything to go through her first and you didn’t do that. Yes at the time maybe it did require an immediate decision but you didn’t even follow through when things calmed down.” Rubbing the back of his neck he sighed again, “Yeah I know it and so do you, but as far as D.A.D. is concerned there was a follow up after and we didn’t do it.”
Shaking his head he couldn’t stop the small smile from forming, no matter what he would always have Mace’s back even if he did want to sock him in the jaw. “Yeah but I don’t look like a wooly mammoth,” he said after a beat, getting a jab in at the oh so beautiful beard Mace felt he wore. Rennie picked up the file as his computer warmed up, taking a look at the two men, both the topic of this investigation. At first glance he had to wonder why they were being sent out there, it seemed that these two men had grown tired of the cooperate life and wanted away from it, and they were willing to take others away from it also. The younger brother was the apparent leader and the true target of what might be a witch hunt. Both agents knew the reason for this case was to avoid the bad publicity if this indeed was another Waco.
Glancing up at Mace he shrugged, the computer having loaded the google images of the place. “I don’t know, part of me thinks it’s just being overly cautious and the other part of me says this doesn’t sit well. I mean look at this place, it’s huge and plenty of buildings and places to do things outside the realm of legal. On the other hand, like you said, he isn’t proclaiming to be God or a prophet, so what is he doing wrong?” Leaning back in his chair he drummed his fingers on the desk, “If we find nothing they will say stay until you do, and if there is nothing we never get to come back? Is that what this is, a chance to send us away for good?” Shaking his head, he couldn’t see them doing that, but maybe they were. “But what if there is something? Guess there’s only one way to find out.” Dropping his feet to the ground, “Time to go to Weed.”
Stolen Moments|Astrid & Rennie
Life had taken a turn she never thought it would. In recent months someone had certainly pulled the plug and life was circling the drain. After being forced to return to Long Beach it took everything for Astrid to maintain her sobriety. She’d faltered a couple times but for the first time in a long time she was making an effort for the sake of her family. Living with Alex, while comforting to an extent, was killing her in other ways. When high Astrid had a better chance of fighting her demons – really she was just ignoring them. She knew Andy and Alex wouldn’t lie to her about something so important. Believing Flynn Mercer was dead important but the longer she was sober the more she was seeing him. In public, and now at home and Astrid started using everything as an opportunity to deflect.
Months back Astrid planted a kiss on the lips of one James Renfro. He happened to be a homicide detective for the Long Beach police department and partner’s with her brother Alex. The kiss still seemed to linger and for the little brunette she thought it was only because she was alone for the first time in her life. After Ben Rollins raped her Astrid and Addison both really started slutting around, then Flynn and then Bordeaux in Seattle plus a whole slew of fuck buddies in between. Astrid was a sexual being whether she liked it or not and that certainly contributed to her break down. Rennie, as he liked to be called, had stopped by the apartment to drop something off and Astrid had taken it that one step further getting naked in front of the man and trying to entice him in to the shower. He hadn’t taken the bait. Before Alex could even confront her about it the ghost of Flynn was there scolding her for thinking she could ever get away from him.
Alex caught her arguing with Flynn – scared, trembling and crying that she was supposed to be free of him and why wouldn’t he just go away? Her brother’s only recourse was to have her taken away so she didn’t hurt herself and now after three weeks in the Reinholdt Psychiatric Facility she was finally able to have visitors for the first time. Alex, Andy and even Addison had all come to see her so when she was told she had a guest she was fully expecting one of her siblings. When she entered the visitors center Astrid was shocked to see Rennie standing there. Immediately her arms crossed over her chest shamed by their previous interaction. “What are you doing here?”
@detectiverennie
Rennie was not sure how his visit would be perceived; after all he didn’t really know Astrid, though she was the sister of his partner. He felt compelled to check on her once he heard she had been hospitalized at Reinholdt. Part of him felt responsible, after all he had let her kiss him, and he had kissed her back, and then he left her alone after her strip down and invitation. His respect for Alex and for Astrid kept him from following her into the bathroom, but the truth was, she was gorgeous and she had been on his mind. Those thoughts made him feel like more of a shit, she was obviously in need of help and all he could think was with his dick. Hating how his thoughts made him feel he waited a few weeks before even asking Alex if he could check in, not realizing he would have to wait any way.
Stepping into the facility he stopped at the desk and spoke with the doctor a little before coming to see her. He knew now that for three weeks she hadn’t been allowed out, and using his charm and his badge he managed to convince the doctor to let her out into the gardens as long as he stayed with her. Maybe this would be a good place to start making things right with her. There was something about her that drew him in, and while he was afraid to admit it, afraid that Alex would kill him, he knew it was more than a physical attraction.
Waiting in the lobby he turned when the door opened and saw her come inside, the surprise clear on her features. Giving her a lopsided smile he shrugged, “Thought I’d stop by and say hello, since I didn’t say good bye last time.” A hint of red rising to his cheeks as he didn’t want her to feel embarrassed and he had already stuck his foot in his mouth. Clearing his throat, “So the doc said we can walk the gardens outside if you want, but you have to walk with me. Care to go outside?” Seeing her closed off stance he wondered if she would just turn tail and leave, but he really hoped she wouldn’t, he really wanted to get to know her and talk to her.
Off to Nowhere | Mace & Rennie
When the two men walked out of the Deputy Assistant Director’soffice Mace felt deflated. He was angry but at the same time he now understoodwhat a kicked dog felt like. Never once in his career had he been disciplinedin such a manner – having been chastised for how he handled his last case butmore over they were now being punished. Special Agent Jensen was sure he wasdoing what was right for all parties involved but the D.A.D. was now tellinghim he handled himself like a field agent; this was quite the insult for aseasoned professional and even worse that it had reflected on his partner sobadly.
“Look, Rennie, I am so sorry for this. You didn’t have tostick up for me like that but I really appreciate it.” Mace had a lot ofrespect for his partner. Having both served in the Army there was a lot of comraderybetween the two but in this moment it seemed to be non-existent. “Do you really think Weed is as bad as itsounds?” As soon as he spoke the words he knew how stupid it sounded. Lookingat his polished shoes as the continued down the corridor Mace scratched at theback of his neck then to his beard. The Deputy Assistant didn’t like his facialhair either.
“Was it just me or was that woman looking for shit to nitpickat?” Mace knew it was a losing battle and the look in Rennie’s eyes clearlysaid he needed to shut the fuck up but for Mace rambling was his way of dealingwith insecurity. “Would you at least say something? You look like you want tosock my in the jaw. I’d like a little warning if you are, please?”
@detectiverennie
Rennie was doing his best to keep his composure but there was a lot of anger bubbling under the surface. He should or could be mad at Mace for getting them into this situation, after all the man never knew when to stop talking,often digging himself and anyone in the sand with him into a deeper hole. Still when it came to partners and knowing your back was safe Rennie couldn’t ask for a better partner. He knew that Mace was pissed about the scolding, but in his anger he had spoken one too many times over the line with their D.A.D. and now they were getting sent to a place called Weed California. Rennie had never heard of the place, but he truly doubted it was named for the cannabis and was guessing it was more for the tumbleweeds that flew around.
Looking over at Mace he sighed but said nothing in response to his sticking up for Mace. Rolling his eyes at the next question he simply nodded and kept walking, not stopping until Mace said something about socking him. Sighing he turned, “I’m not going to hit you . . . yet, but keep talking and I might.” Giving him a small grin he shook his head and leaned into the wall.
“I stuck up for you because you’re my partner and while it wasn’t the right choice I do respect your decision.” Shrugging he rubbed his own neck, “I think Weed is probably worse than it sounds and I think she nitpicks you because you won’t shave like she wants.” Standing up from the wall he moved in closer, making as if to hit him, but stopped and laughed. “You’re lucky I like you Jensen, or I would hit you. Come on, let’s go look at this case file.” Heading back to their desks and turning on the computer, “It’s something with a cult, should be fun.” He was still pissed about the assignment as he pulled his tie off and sat down.

Dark Rooms | Open | Eddie
Eddie was sitting in on the corner seat of a dark bar. Hecould hear the sounds of the television playing the Clippers game and a few mengrumbling over the current outcome. The day had been rough. He’d gotten in to afight with his wife Delaney that morning which really wasn’t anything new butshe was more pissed than usual and took a ride up to Beverly Hills to spendsome of her hard inherited money. Work was a bitch and he simply did not feellike going back to an empty house. Eddie was not the type of man to sit in oneplace and stew over his life wondering how to improve it. Delaney left, sure,but she would be back soon enough and the make-up sex was likely the only realthing that kept the two together. He was a good detective but didn’t like thatno matter what happened he was always cast aside and someone else was giventhat senior partner position.
On one hand that was not a bad thing because Eddie couldjust do his job and not have to worry about the additional paperwork, thefrequent meetings with the big wigs and the headaches that came with beingsomeone that everyone else looked up too. Instead, today Eddie sat at a dingybar drinking away the day’s stresses hoping he could get down just enough todrive home safely before heading to bed. He and his wife were swingers but italways pissed her off if he attempted to nab another woman when she wasn’taround. For some reason it was okay for him to stick his dick in another womanas long as she was there to watch. He wasn’t expecting company considering whenhe was mulling over his thoughts he usually looked grumpy but when a persontook the seat next to him, Eddie looked up from his glass and smiled.
Rennie needed a drink, and a dark bar to have it in. The last few days of work had been hell,between getting a case tossed out on a technicality, a young boy found deadnear the water, and getting nowhere on a case that had been on his desk formonths. On top of all that he foundhimself thinking about the charity event more and more. It wasn’t really the charity event he wasthinking on, more on Astrid Rollins, a thought alone that could get him killedby her brother. Not that his thoughtswere wandering anywhere, but he found himself wondering if she was okay, shehad been pretty shaken up by Dexter and his date, but he wasn’t sure if she shouldcheck on her. Wouldn’t Alex tell him ifsomething happened to her, like she wasn’t dealing with things well? Thenagain, Alex didn’t owe him that information, so he might not be told. Knowing if he wanted to know he needed to goover and check for himself, he also knew tonight was not that night. He was in a bad state of mind and he wouldn’tbring that to her doorstep, she had her shit to deal with. Heading out to hiscar from work he found himself sitting in it, hands on the wheel deciding whereto go. A dark bar was a sure thing, buthe didn’t necessarily want to run into someone from work. Of course he could grab something and headhome, but the idea of drinking at home alone sounded so much sadder thandrinking alone in a bar.
Shaking his head he started up the car and headed to a smallbar, not a usual haunt but one he had been to before. Happy to find the place dark when he wentinside he took a seat at the bar and ordered, then choosing to look around, andit was then he noticed that he had sat down next to not only someone he knew, buta fellow cop. Returning the smile hecould see that Eddie wasn’t have a much better day, and perhaps this chanceencounter wouldn’t be horrible. Thankingthe bartender he took a sip and let out a satisfied sigh. “Looks like we are both having shitdays. Good place to drink it away,” hesaid with a soft chuckle.

Shrinky Dinks||Astrid & Rennie AU
Astrid didn’t know why she was so calm. Rennie on the other hand did not seem to be handling the change very well and when she stopped yelling she looked over her shoulder at him. He commented again about the Twilight Zone and pursed her lips. His tone was so different from what she remembered and really had changed from their entrance to the kitchen to now. Looking him up and down, she smirked and pointed to his jeans. Even at two inches tall he still looked good, “Don’t worry, Ren, you still look proportionate.” Feeling that blush fill her cheeks again she shook it off. He was her brother’s partner and a cop and the last time she trusted a man with all the dirty details of her life he used every bit of it against her. “It only makes sense that it was the orange juice. That was the only thing we shared.”
The thought of Alex coming in to the house and stepping on them made her freak out a little and she stepped under the counter and out of the path of possible destruction. “You might want to join me.” Lifting up each foot to have a look, “Nope, no sign of Alex, thankfully. That would have sucked.” That statement made her laugh. In her mind she was thinking she would have joined the ranks of her brothers – Alex having killed at least one man and Andy helped dispose of the guy. It would be easy enough to get away with as well because who would believe her if she ever told anyone she’d shrunk down smaller than a Barbie and that Alex must have as well and well, oops, I squashed him? It was all too ridiculous.
“So what do you think we should do? I mean, I suppose I can guide us someplace safe but I think the carpet in the living room is going to be too dangerous. We are safer here in the kitchen. We can try, I guess to get up on to the counter but I’ll have you know I am no climber. I played soccer in high school and about the only other thing I am good at is sex – that might get you up, but not on the counter.” Astrid had a way of delivering things and nine times out of ten she had no clue what she was saying when she was saying them or that they might actually offend of catch off guard. “I am all ears if you have a better plan.”
Rennie wasn’t quite sure why he was freaking out so much, especially when Astrid seemed so calm. Normally he was better able to handle stressful situations, and most of the time he was the calm one. Maybe the juice switched their personalities or something, then again that was assuming that she was normally freaking out and that was far from fair to assume. Looking down he felt a blush on his cheeks, apparently Juniper wasn’t the only woman anymore to make him blush. “Yeah, thanks.” He said, glancing up in time to see she was blushing as well. Clearing his throat he looked away, he didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. Jumping on the change in conversation he nodded and looked back at her. “Yes it’s got to be the juice. Maybe once we pee it out or something we’ll go back to normal?” It seemed a long shot and far from the way a twilight zone episode would be, but he wasn’t really sure what to think, there was no guide on what to do if your juice shrinks you down to two inches.
He followed her under the counter and nodded, realizing that yes they could very well be stepped on. Watching her check his shoes and after doing the same he leaned into the counter, a smile growing on his lips. “Can you imagine if we did find him under our shoes? I mean I don’t want him squashed but how weird is that?” Glad she was laughing about it too he nodded, “It would have sucked but yeah, the idea is kind of funny. I mean how would you ever explain that, of course you really wouldn’t have too I mean no one would find him. Think we discovered the perfect way to kill someone, scary thought at how perfect it is.” Letting out another laugh he felt himself finally relaxing, well relaxing enough to have a clear thought again which was good.
Glancing over at her he shrugged, “I don’t know. I mean I think we need to be someplace safe, but . . .” Looking over at the carpet he sighed, “Yeah might feel like the forest or something.” His eyes widened as she spoke of climbing and quickly turned the conversation to sex, another blush on his cheeks. Clearing his throat he looked up at the counter again. “I don’t even know if we could climb up there, even if we were climbers. I don’t have an idea, but maybe if we climb up something small it will at least keep us off the ground and away from possible footsteps. I could try climbing, but I don’t like the idea of going alone. So no I guess I don’t have any ideas.”
