The answer she got, however, kind of confused her and she frowned, deciding more information was needed before she could answer.

Distrust, that's always a familiar feeling. He was going to have to get used to the fact that there was almost nothing to do but sit around and chat all day. Her questions were slightly irritating, but he'd dealt with worse.

She was cute already, but that squeak was just adorable. His eyes half opened as she pulled away. "I love you too, Gem." He dropped his hands to her butt and squeezed it playfully. "How about we celebrate the new year?"

There was no need to watch the timer. He’d been waiting longer than he wanted to anyways. He came up behind Gemma and spun her around, pulling her into a kiss. He wrapped his arms around her, curling his fingers in her shirt.

There it was, the clocks all ticked over to a new year. They’d survived to see another year. Tennessee turned to Kansas and smiled. “Happy new year, my queen." He cupped a hand to her cheek and gently pressed his lips to hers.
