Davis fam reporting for duty! I’m a great friend but not all these gifts are mine, even if I’d love to take credit. We all collectively decided pink was a color you’d like so embrace it! The birthday card’s my mom, there’s a letter inside but I haven’t read it so can’t comment on it. Charlie did the drawing on the stone, apparently they did it on plastics class the other day and he says that’s you in the drawing. Kyle said you’d know about the cactus but then he told me you just really liked plants… doubtful but we’re gonna let him right. The record player’s from the grandma you’ve never knew I had. Just kidding, the record player’s my gift, now I can finally take credit. You can borrow all my vynils to test your gift and also to really understand what I talk about when I say they’re better. Dev, you know I love you and all the Davis do. Happy birthday baby, enjoy your day a whole lot!

To my favorite busy bee,

I’ve heard that it’s customary to impart some unsolicited advice on your kids’ birthday, so here’s a few packages to help make this spiel a little more interesting:

+ Your brothers’ favorite stories always start off with ‘once upon a time’ – there’s a beautiful princess and an epic battle and, of course, the happily ever after. There’s magic and never ending hope, traits I’ve learned to hold onto as I’ve gotten older. As you enter this new chapter of your life, I encourage you to do the same. Here’s a few stories that can help serve as a reminder.

+ For someone who’s constantly on the go, it’s important to stop and smell the roses every so often. Enjoy the little things, the comfort of a fuzzy sweater, cake for breakfast, a little whimsy in your wardrobe. They can help make you smile when everything else feels hard to manage.

+ Taking care of your mental and physical health is important and sometimes, you just need a ‘me’ day. Here’s two – take a trip into Chicago, stay in the city with a friend or by yourself, relax, unwind, breathe. The boys and I will be here to welcome you home.
