May and June wrap up

oops, so I forgot to write up my May wrap up so ill just smash it together with my June wrap up. 

I’d say May is my most productive month so far seeing as i hit 300% of my goal.

Final total: 9324

most words a day: 1011

least words a day: 126

so yeah May was kinda crazy for me. the most worked on project was once again Tales of Someplace else. 

uh yeah June was a lot less productive. i didn't really write everyday but i did hit my goal so that’s good.

Final total: 3772

so yeah the worlds going crazy and I’m just sitting over here in my corner of it, typing away. July is camp nano again and my goal is 15000 words, just like April. yes I’m starting a day late, but that shouldn't really be that much of a set back.

for anyone who needs to hear it: give yourself permission to draw, write, paint, sing, dance, etc. create like there’s nothing stopping you. you can always revise later.

I am a furnace and in me burns the flame of revolution 

Bight, Fierce and Hot.

In my youth, I was told that this flame would only burn me up,

That any revolt that would concern me 

Was already won by those who burned before me.

And I believed them, for a time,

When my world was only me and life was easy.

But now I've opened my eyes to the real world.

My brothers and sisters around the world are rounded up and killed for who they love.

And I cry for them.

But the tears fall not down my face 

Instead, they fall inside and sizzle against the fire.

What starts as slow drops, almost insignificant against the raging blaze,

Grows into a downpour as I learn,

That my brothers and sisters, as they run to a better life, 

Have their children ripped from their arms.

And that my sisters around the world are walked backwards in their fight for rights.

And...

And…

And…

And I am tired, burned out,

But I am not dead yet.

I simply curled up in the ashes of my soul and wait,

Feeding oxygen to the spark I still hold.

I am human.

And I will be back to the fight soon.

I love the ambiguity of the term ‘WIP’. Is it a project in it’s third draft? A final draft being queried? An idea I came up with six months ago and haven’t written anything about yet? You don’t know. Nobody knows.

You’re a better writer than you were yesterday, and you’ll be a better writer tomorrow than you are today.

Writing is funny like that — there’s no real point where we max out our writing skills. We just keep getting better and better, day by day, word by word.

The more we fall in love with writing, every single second we spend on our craft… We get better. And we’ll never stop getting better. We’ll always get better.

I think that’s beautiful.

April writing wrap up

well April certainly was a month. it almost felt like it was only a week. it was also camp nano so and I’m an essential worker so it was fun all around. I did write everyday though so i feel like that’s something to be proud of, (for me at least).

most worked on project this month was Tales of Someplace Else. I also finished the planning on one new Wip and started the planing on another, you know because I have a problem and of course nine active Wips is not too much.

May is going to be a bit of a rest month so my goal is a nice simple 3100 words and I’m going to think about rising my usual monthly goal from 100 words a day.

So yeah April was a very good month for me, motivation wise, and I hope that that continues.

March  writing wrap up

so march went a little crazy. I hope everyone is doing well. so my goal for March was 3100 words. to be honest I did not write every day but thankfully I did manage to meet my goal.

Least words a day: 109

my most worked on project this month was Can I FIx Avengers 2.0 (new title soon hopefully) but I did also work on and start another part of Tales of somewhere else.

so April is camp nano so my goal is a bit larger at 15000 words. also, I'm going to try to do an update about that maybe every couple of days.

so that's how march went and I'm looking forward to April. motivation is still high and I hope your march went as well as mine.

Non-writer: Why do you start so many projects in the middle of wips? Why not just write stories one at a time

Why I Love First Drafts

I just used the word ‘incessantly’ three times on one page

One person said they dated six years ago, and two pages later the author changed the time  line so the ex says it was four years ago.

Do we know?? If any of the scenes?? Match up??

Self indulgent deep emotional conversations about feelings every other page

What is pacing?

This scene is supposed to convey a subtle undertone of the self deceit currently causing the main character’s emotional conflict. So we’ll write ‘she was lying to herself.’

The side character’s name has changed with each appearance because I can’t be bothered to scroll up. 

I don’t know anything about this character until he monologues his entire tragic backstory on page ten. 

The knowledge that even if I don’t use a single word from this draft, I’m still sharpening my skills and becoming a better writer.
